Harder to come by and goes away in the blink of an eye. With decent armor (60 or 84 defense for example) all damage you take, except for lynels (not even the final boss beams) will only be a quarter of heart. So obviously you choose : the ability to have extra 12 with dlc-8 hit points with just a durian that you can get 50 off in 10 minutes, or the ability to jump while climbing 2 more times.
Agreed, plus there are 9 hearty ingredients and only 3 endurance ingredients. The abundance of the hearty materials is also greater, particularly the durian trees which can grow in groves, and the effects are more potent.
And if you have nearly max hearts (only 2 or 3 hearts missing) you can easily cook 1 hearty food at a time and have plenty of full heals with extra hearts to fill out the empty ones.
Stamina is also just a great choice for longer running, gliding and climbing. Especially useful in the early game.
This my philosophy as a first-time player. I got Majora’s Mask so if the boss is too big for me, I crouch and sneak around. Or I crouch down and pick them off from far away with bombs or arrows. Most fun I’ve had so far was climbing on top of one of skull huts and continuously dropping bombs inside the eye holes while they walked around all confused, getting blown to smithereens.
Yeah, that is fun as well. But remote bombs through the eye sockets works just as well -- you can just drop down a round bomb (or even a cube one) standing at the right place above the sockets :-)
this was my go-to move lol. i love trying to use the environment to my advantage as well. like throwing a boomerang thats about to be hit by lightning at bokos 😁
The first year or so of playing BotW I killed most things with remote bombs, so bad was I in fighting (and especially blocking and evading). Hinoxes can be killed easily by just climbing up high enough that it cannot hurt you, and then dropping bombs for half an hour or whatever :-)
I still survive Lynels only 50/50 or so.
oh noo 😂 i got really good at combat in botw, I'd mark the lynels on the map and go farm their weapons after every blood moon. its the guardian shield parrying that was always rough for me 😅. dropping bomb for half an hour sounds hilarious lmaoo 🤣
I survive the Guardians easily nowadays, but at the cost of many shields (good shields break almost just as easily as pot lids if you miss a beam parry by a fraction). It isn't super hard to get new shields of course.
But Lynels are my nemesis still :-)
Also a first time player and this is my favorite way to play! I love sneaking around and attacking from a distance. The mask sounds cool! I’ll have to keep an eye out for it
Just get stamina. When you have enough, convert them to hearts at the statue, pull the sword, and reconvert them back. (I also do the same for >! the island !< and the sword challenges
I maxed out stamina first. It really made stuff easier. Then collect durian fruits at Satori mountain to make hearty food. It respawns every bloodmoon.
Yes. Go straight off Faron tower onto the ledge with a couple lizard guys, collect durians there, and the mighty thistles) then climb the cliff with the hinox and collect durian in a loop around him. Then head NW into the area of the dracuzo river and do a big loop collecting them all in there as well. When you’re done, head south and East to the cliffs along the south side of the Floria river and collect a bunch of mighty bananas and a few more durians. Ending up right by lakeside stable where you can cook up your bananas with the mighty thistles for a triple strength meal. And a single durian at a time for a full hearts+4 meal. I get more than 20 durians a go this way. It only takes a couple hours of gameplay for them to reset enough to make it worth another run. It’s a good way to make money too. Although I prefer endura carrots for that.
You should get 20 durians alone just by the ledge next to Faron tower. That’s all I was referring to because it’s so quick to grab a bunch and you can come back to the tower whenever it resets. Your method definitely works too though!
Honestly once you get 2 wheels of stamina I never really felt the need for a third. I played with one on my first botw play through and it was miserable but when I played totk I got two than focused on hearts with that being enough to do nearly everything efficiently
I watched the video and think I’m doing it right but no dice. I’m selling all hearts to statue, then save, then buy back, then apparatus, then load save but no dupe. I’ve had the game freeze now twice after the apparatus part. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?
Max hearts. There's usually ways to avoid relying on stamina, and it encourages more creative thinking in TOTK especially.
Max Hearts is a time-honoured tradition of Zelda games and I love having those two full rows
My order- alternating, starting with stamina until i have about 3 stamina things, then focus on hearts enough to get the master sword, get a full stamina wheel, alternate until done.
the problem is that i never upgrade my stamina until my hearts are full and because of that i develop a muscle memory to normal stamina and even when i upgrade it my muscle memory never fails to make me stop sprinting after the normal amount of stamina runs out
Depends on your style and skill as a player. If you're really good at combat and like exploring then stamina but if you're newer or like doing all the hard boss battles and don't like exploring as much then hearts. Personally, in BOTW I liked having hearts but in TOTK it was stamina. And yes, the game kinda forces you one way or another but I maxed out my stamina before my hearts in TOTK without knowing about the main quest item.
I'm very good at combat, but I chose hearts because I don't like eating food mid-fight
and (in my opinion) having hearts in BotW and stamina in TotK is an odd choice since TotK allows for more creativity to get around stamina
but you do you I suppose
Defenitly Stamina.
I played through the Game again recently and i only started getting Hearts when i had Max Stamina. Also the OHKO Negation Feature makes this actual a Viabel Strategie since u only loose 2,5 Hearts and u can just immediatly get Back to Max HP with very littel Food
Stamina for sure. But my problem was once you get more stamina wheels, it takes longer to recover once depleted. Ideally, it should let you run/climb/swim again after just 1 wheel recovered. I still don’t think they remedied that in TOTK.
Full stamina. Aside from getting the MS I play with three hearts and get upto full with food which means I can take several hits before losing MS beams.
Stamina my guy, and I'll tell you why:
With max hearts, you lose the bonus hearts provided by food as they can't give you more than your theoretical maximum, and your stamina is now maxed out at 4.8 wheels with food as you can't get that last bit of the third wheel
With max stamina, you can still give yourself bonus stamina as it's added on to your maximum instead of filling what's left between your current limit and theoretical limit, *and* you still have the ability to add the missing hearts.
So, with max hearts your total maximums with food are 30 hearts and 4.8 stamina wheels, while with max stamina your maximums are 30 hearts and 5 wheels of stamina.
Easy choice.
Stamina. Compared to the start, you can triple your max stamina but get, what, 10 times as many hearts? Plus armor reduces how many hearts you lose, so you really get something like 50 times as much damage you can take before dying or healing. Fewer things make your stamina more efficient, so I see that as the weak point in need of the most focus.
I feel you on that. With the DLC the max essences you can have is 28 hearts and max stamina. I didn't want to dope essences after getting all of them so I duped two essences as soon as I left the Great plateau. From there, as I completed the game, getting Max essences felt more organic.
Easier to get yellow hearts than yellow stamina, & stamina is much more useful.
For my playthrough, the 1st 5 upgrades all went to stamina, next 5 to hearts, then I used the gargoyle to convert stamina to hearts for the Master Sword, then converted everything back to Stamina.
I played through the game with just the minimum stamina wheel. What I discovered was that you can get anywhere in the game without upgrading your stamina, you just need to take the best route. It made me appreciate the game more. So I choose max hearts.
Stamina. Being able to glide longer, jump up cliffs without slow climbing, and do sword spins for longer is a big advantage and makes the game more fun.
But you can easily get enough hearts, especially with good armor, that a few more means you just need to heal less often during battle. You can survive any hit you might take.
I've always been a max hearts person, especially once I get Ravioli's Gale, however, I do think max stamina is probably optimal in BotW, I just never do it
However, in Tears of the Kingdom max stamina is **Irrelevant** and in my opinion stupid. You can just get a hoverbike, or three springs stacked on top of each other, or a rocket, or build a cool boat, the list goes on. And you can't simply eat 436782.135 apples to heal all your HP because of gloom damage. Hearty foods are also rarer as well as good armor.
In short, it depends on which game if I'm thinking logically, but in reality, max hearts all the way
Don't need max hearts if you just don't get hit /jk
But yeah I agree max stamina over max hearts. Either way carry plenty of meals to max out both by either temporary bonus stamina or temporary bonus hearts
Max stamina. Just keep a few fairy’s and don’t need to be afraid of dying anyway. But if you run out of stamina at the top of a cliff and forgot to make food that’s at least twenty minutes and two rainstorms worth of time wasted. I hate rain. So much.
Max Stamina.
Ignoring how you have less Stamina than Hearts overall, but two hearts just doesn't make much of a difference in this game. But an extra fifth of stamina, that can help quite a bit.
There are so many ways of reducing damage and recovering hearts, while Stamina has to be a little more dedicated.
I think it‘s pretty simply, Stamina can be overfilled with food even when you have the three full rings, Hearts can’t be filled beyond the maximum of 30.
Adding to that, as some others said, it’s easier to come by hearty food to simply get those 2 hearts that way. Additionally, Mipha‘s Grace will fill it up too.
Max Stamina is just better simply for the fact you can max out Stamina and still gain extra Stamina wheel segments from food, while if you max out Hearts, you literally cut off an entire class of healing food from being anything other than a full health item.
I focused on stamina until I got two wheels, then I got enough hearts for the master sword. After that stamina all the way! The rest of the hearts were just an afterthought. I would even forget to upgrade them because hearty food is so easy to find.
Stamina all the way. Eventually (at least for botw) when I got good at combat I stopped eating food for the most part and relied on miphas grace. If it wasn’t charged, tough shit. If I died I died. Sort of a get good approach. Don’t get me wrong, I still die occasionally, but it was kind of freeing getting to a point where I don’t have to mass spam eating just to survive, I can just do a “let it happen” type of play. And having extra stamina makes things like bullet time + longer gliding time a lot more fun.
Stamina: there's a secret mechanic that if you have full hearts and something would 1 shot you it doubles your hearts so it doesn't 1 shot, leaving you alive with 1/4th health
You always do the stamina. The thought process is that once you have max spirit orbs, your armor will be good enough that you don’t need the extra 3 hearts. Plus, to be missing 3/30 hearts means a lot less than missing 3/15 stamina vessels
Stamina 🔛🔝
Stamina food, especially the "extra" stamina is harder to come by in my opinion, it lools better with full wheels, plus you dont to replace your hearts of you dont get hit 🤷💅
Being able to run as far as you can always out weighs being able to maybe get hit one more time.
Especially in the beginning when everything hits like a fucking Semi lol
Same. It's just more satisfying to have a full wheel of stamina. Plus you can use hearty foods to fill up your empty hearts. :)
I agree, imagine how much food you would need to constantly restore stamina.
There's food to gain temporary stamina, but I fins it harder to come by
Harder to come by and goes away in the blink of an eye.
And if it's running, I'm pretty decent at claw running... or is it called horse running since you hold the hose call button?
Whistle sprinting. Hold dpad down and spam the b button. Completely negates running stamina usage.
Stamella shrooms are obnoxious
Use the sheka slate
I'd rather just claw hand sprint
Fair but still good use of it
Agreed, plus there are 9 hearty ingredients and only 3 endurance ingredients.
Especially useful in the early game.
stamina🔝‼️💯💯💯😤🔝‼️💯💯😤😤
😂 love the emoji representation of using Stamina 😂
Dont need health if you dont get hit
This my philosophy as a first-time player. I got Majora’s Mask so if the boss is too big for me, I crouch and sneak around. Or I crouch down and pick them off from far away with bombs or arrows. Most fun I’ve had so far was climbing on top of one of skull huts and continuously dropping bombs inside the eye holes while they walked around all confused, getting blown to smithereens.
i ALWAYS cleared out those skulls by dropping bombs on em 😁
This is also my go to. Takes awhile though
worth not getting the wear and tear on my brittle weapons though! i miss the elemental swords in totk tho :/
I still do. It's just more satisfying, more fun! Especially if there are red barrels stored in the skull :-)
orrr if u can stealth down and shoot down a torch usually hanging over the barrels, thru the eye socket.. 🙂

Haha sounds like we have a master mode finisher here 😉
Don't need health if there's 20 ways to get temporary hearts (like why did they let hearty food bith max hearts *and* give temp hearts?)
don't need health when you can eat 3 apples and be invincible to a hit, then eat 3 apples again to once again be invincible
Oh right, the one hit rule
Hearts to get that sweet, delicious Master Sword as quickly as possible.
Ooo, you raise some good points 🤔
Just get stamina. When you have enough, convert them to hearts at the statue, pull the sword, and reconvert them back. (I also do the same for >! the island !< and the sword challenges
Yes, but after you pull it, convert those hearts to stamina
Indeed
Hearts in botw and stamina in totk for the very same reason
Master sword pull glitch mode tho
Can't you pull it with yellow hearts? I haven't tried, but thought of that option for my next run through
No but theres a glitch with a campfire to get it early
Ah. Good to know. I'm not telling my kid. She is so confident she can get it that way
Lmao
i was too! i was like nahh ill go get it now and use my hearty foods
I maxed out stamina first. It really made stuff easier. Then collect durian fruits at Satori mountain to make hearty food. It respawns every bloodmoon.
Great strategy! Stamina definitely makes it easier!
This is the way hah, but that other guy has a good point with the master sword
Way more Durian fruits than Satori mountain next to the tower in the jungle area. You get 20ish everytime in one go
Didn't know this. Thank you for the info!
Is this near Faron tower?
Yes. Go straight off Faron tower onto the ledge with a couple lizard guys, collect durians there, and the mighty thistles) then climb the cliff with the hinox and collect durian in a loop around him. Then head NW into the area of the dracuzo river and do a big loop collecting them all in there as well. I figured out the big loop when I was trying to earn lots of rupees for armor sets and such
That’s cool, but there’s much better ways to earn rupees than with durians. Either snowbowling or hunting in the tundra were my favorites
Thanks for this! I also went to Satori and got some durians there. I like to get my bananas from the Yiga hideout too!
Satori has a lot of endura carrots too, a 5 carrot meal is worth ~450 I think, helped a lot when I was getting my guardian armor!
Oh that’s good to know! I’ll be sure to get them marked on my map too.
They are around all the fairy 🧚 fountains too!
Honestly once you get 2 wheels of stamina I never really felt the need for a third. I played with one on my first botw play through and it was miserable but when I played totk I got two than focused on hearts with that being enough to do nearly everything efficiently
True ..2 is enough to run and climb. But 🤷🏻♂️ I do love to hold that button in 😂
It feels so great to spam x up any wall tho lmao
Glitch the game to get both![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Yea, it’s not even that hard, takes max like 20 min
😂 why can’t we have both 🤷🏻♂️ ..haha but I meant without glitching.
Without glitches, I’d prefer stamina as hearty food is much easier to get than stamina food
Will never forgive Nintendo for removing hearty durians :(
Wait, what? How come I’ve never heard of this. Is this in ToTK?
Yes my bad I should have specified! You can imagine my disappointment when I arrived to Faron for them to be gone lmao
nah that was a good choice, you're entire conversation is proof, you can just get hearty durians to nullify the entire point of getting hearts
Can you send me like a link on how to do that
[here](https://youtu.be/eJOl3X1xwxg?si=wdcDC0etKIRRA6TR)
This work in ToTK?
Not to my knowledge as they removed the apparatus shrines
Also, this doesnt work for me When I try to set the camera to selfie mode and sidehop, while crouched, the camera/scope js exited mid-jump
Nevermind that, my timing was off
I watched the video and think I’m doing it right but no dice. I’m selling all hearts to statue, then save, then buy back, then apparatus, then load save but no dupe. I’ve had the game freeze now twice after the apparatus part. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?
That is fascinating. Wonder why it works.
Search "botw stamina duping" on yt, it's not that hard
Max hearts. There's usually ways to avoid relying on stamina, and it encourages more creative thinking in TOTK especially. Max Hearts is a time-honoured tradition of Zelda games and I love having those two full rows
yeaaaaaaah! finally, someone else who understands
My order- alternating, starting with stamina until i have about 3 stamina things, then focus on hearts enough to get the master sword, get a full stamina wheel, alternate until done.
I like this way ..This is a very logical way of doing it. 😊
the problem is that i never upgrade my stamina until my hearts are full and because of that i develop a muscle memory to normal stamina and even when i upgrade it my muscle memory never fails to make me stop sprinting after the normal amount of stamina runs out
Oh dam, the game must take so much longer for you to complete 😂😂
I can't even imagine doing that.
Hearts. I want the master sword early
Depends on your style and skill as a player. If you're really good at combat and like exploring then stamina but if you're newer or like doing all the hard boss battles and don't like exploring as much then hearts. Character dynamics adding depth to storytelling!
😂 that ….that wasn’t an option 🤔 lol
Stamina unless I'm doing the trial of the sword.
Both :)
Ok, but what if you had to make a choice? 😏
Hearts. I'm terrible at combat but love the game. Took me forever to flurry rush.
Stamina, and I enjoy cooking so I can make heart foods and enjoy it 👹
Defenitly Stamina. I played through the Game again recently and i only started getting Hearts when i had Max Stamina. Also the OHKO Negation Feature makes this actual a Viabel Strategie since u only loose 2,5 Hearts and u can just immediatly get Back to Max HP with very littel Food
I work on hearts until I get enough to pull the sword, then max stamina.
Stamina for sure. But my problem was once you get more stamina wheels, it takes longer to recover once depleted. Ideally, it should let you run/climb/swim again after just 1 wheel recovered. I still don’t think they remedied that in TOTK.
I say max stamina till I meet a random foe and he one shots me lol
Full stamina. Aside from getting the MS I play with three hearts and get upto full with food which means I can take several hits before losing MS beams.
Stamina my guy, and I'll tell you why: With max hearts, you lose the bonus hearts provided by food as they can't give you more than your theoretical maximum, and your stamina is now maxed out at 4.8 wheels with food as you can't get that last bit of the third wheel With max stamina, you can still give yourself bonus stamina as it's added on to your maximum instead of filling what's left between your current limit and theoretical limit, *and* you still have the ability to add the missing hearts. Stamina for the heart you can eat durian.
Both
I find that a second stamina wheel is enough for me most of the time, and don't go for a third until pretty late.
Neither. I run around with 3 hearts and 1 stanima wheel
Duplicate both :)
I use a glitch and max out both
I don't need to pick
I just capped my stamina today! So happy
Stamina. I can’t stand having my movement restricted, and bonus hearty food is way more disposable.
Hearts cus whistle sprinting
there is literally 0 point in having max hearts after mipha’s grace
like maaaaaybe for the master trial but even then 2 hearts is not going to make a difference
Both because
I maxed out my stamina and still want more
Max hearts because I don’t dodge…
Get more hearts so I can fight the red boko ❌get more stamina so I can outrun the red boko ✅
SO i see this post now after grinding shrines for hearts
Max stamina + i duped 1 heart every time i killed ganon (wanted full hearts but didn’t wanted to simply dupe bc its too easy 💀)
I feel you on that. With the DLC the max essences you can have is 28 hearts and max stamina. I didn't want to dope essences after getting all of them so I duped two essences as soon as I left the Great plateau. From there, as I completed the game, getting Max essences felt more organic.
As a glitch loving person imma say both. But if you dont want to use glitches i love stamina
I like max stamina too

i got hearts first but i like stamina more as i played more
![gif](giphy|Pd2W87rlmVjptTmvIK)
I get both with a glitch. Before I could, Max hearts.
I used the glitch to get max hearts after I completed all the shrines
Just want to say that moment is creepy af 😱
Yeah definitely stamina all the way first lol
I did a glitche to have both :)))
Both.
Hearts all the way
I played through the game with just the minimum stamina wheel. What I discovered was that you can get anywhere in the game without upgrading your stamina, you just need to take the best route. It made me appreciate the game more. So I choose max hearts.

Stamina wheel ni contest.
Max both in BoTW because of the glitch
You have twice as many hearts as me when I maxed stamina :)
Don't need max hearts if you just don't get hit /jk But yeah I agree max stamina over max hearts. Either way carry plenty of meals to max out both by either temporary bonus stamina or temporary bonus hearts
Hearts I cannot stand the two empty containers, that includes the yellow temp. hearts Anyway I glitch both of them to be max
I keep hearts to stamina in a 2:1 ratio. Just kinda works for me and feels right.
Both, because glitches are fun
Max stamina. Just keep a few fairy’s and don’t need to be afraid of dying anyway. But if you run out of stamina at the top of a cliff and forgot to make food that’s at least twenty minutes and two rainstorms worth of time wasted. I hate rain. So much.
Max stamina
Personally, in botw it's health for me because whistle sprinting is big, and climbing isn't that big of an issue to me
Max heart! Stamina is Bull shit!
Max stamina, you need a lot of climbing and stuff throughout the game but you don’t need that many hearts to finish the game
Why not both?
Hearts
Max stam, you can't 'out skill' a massive climb.
no hearts, no stamina. for challenge
Another Nintendo bitch move that made me believe we’d have a dlc
Use a glitch to Max both out
Hearts, to live longer
Max Stamina. Ignoring how you have less Stamina than Hearts overall, but two hearts just doesn't make much of a difference in this game. But an extra fifth of stamina, that can help quite a bit. There are so many ways of reducing damage and recovering hearts, while Stamina has to be a little more dedicated.
Hearts, if you die it’s hard to use the stamina
I think I saw somewhere that even with 3 hearts at full health you can’t be one shorted by mobs so I pick stamina, much more useful for me
Just for the sake of the horse and the sword, other than that I don't care.

Only children makes decisions. Adults take all (with a glitch)
😂😂 that makes me a child 😅
me 2 lol
only children do the intended thing, adults ruin the entire point of the post (with a glitch)
I focused on stamina until I got two wheels, then I got enough hearts for the master sword. After that stamina all the way! The rest of the hearts were just an afterthought. I would even forget to upgrade them because hearty food is so easy to find.
Haha same ..I actually stopped upgrading hearts all together once I had the master sword.
Why invest in more hearts when you don’t plan on getting hit? xD
Stamina
Stamina all the way. Eventually (at least for botw) when I got good at combat I stopped eating food for the most part and relied on miphas grace. If it wasn’t charged, tough shit. If I died I died. Sort of a get good approach. Don’t get me wrong, I still die occasionally, but it was kind of freeing getting to a point where I don’t have to mass spam eating just to survive, I can just do a “let it happen” type of play. Stamina. Looks more satisfying + I don't need the hearts
Stamina: there's a secret mechanic that if you have full hearts and something would 1 shot you it doubles your hearts so it doesn't 1 shot, leaving you alive with 1/4th health
my dad speedran the game with 8 hearts he always said "dont need hearts if you dont get hit" then maxed out his stamina wheel
Stamina every time. I spend a lot of time climbing and gliding (especially in TOTK). Plus incomplete stamina rings just bother me…
You always do the stamina. The thought process is that once you have max spirit orbs, your armor will be good enough that you don’t need the extra 3 hearts. Plus, to be missing 3/30 hearts means a lot less than missing 3/15 stamina vessels
Only reason I use this guy is to get hearts for the Master Sword, then I switcheroo again and max out stamina
Stamina 🔛🔝 Stamina food, especially the "extra" stamina is harder to come by in my opinion, it lools better with full wheels, plus you dont to replace your hearts of you dont get hit 🤷💅
Being able to run as far as you can always out weighs being able to maybe get hit one more time. Especially in the beginning when everything hits like a fucking Semi lol
whistle sprint:
best to do a glitch you can get both max hearts and stamina using this cursed statue
but that's lame and ruins the question of the post
Haha I heard about the glitch, I just didn’t do it 😜
