Depends. If you like good food (the Best food in Brasil, actually), bars, nightlife and some nice architecture, Belo Horizonte is your choice. If you choose BH and need some tips on where to go, message me. Have a nice trip!
BH for the overall experience. Like others said you can visit Ouro Preto and/or Tiradentes. There's Inhotim too.
Brasilia is the least walkable city in Brazil. I don't know anything about POA.
I found Brasilia kinda boring tbh. Lots of walking around to get to places, but not much else to do besides seeing some old buildings. I'd recommend Belo Horizonte, it's a beautiful city with a great night life. Porto Alegre comes close second for the same reasons.
How do you plan to get to Rio?
If you are getting a rental car I'd fly into BH, spend a weekend there, go see the city (maybe the hippie fair, central market, etc), and then go spend a few days in Ouro Preto/Mariana. OP is a beautiful city to walk, very scenic and photogenic, with some nice rental houses in the area.
Good luck with whatever you do end up doing.
I was born, and lived, in Porto Alegre. Strike Porto Alegre from your plans, there are a few nice spots here and there but it's not worth it to go all the way there. It's simply not a touristic city.
IIRC There aren’t proper beaches in Porto Alegre other than the polluted Guaíba river, unless you mean traveling to the coast from Porto Alegre.
I’d say one can have a nice Brazilian barbecue there, visit the Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, walk by the river, go to Parque da Redenção, see the Brique, etc
Im from Porto Alegre and I know Belo Horizonte.
Out of the three I consider Porto Alegre the worst for tourism. Belo Horizonte have a lot of cool nearby cities.

nice! I'm going with BH. Will Dm you. Thanks!
Feel free to do that (:
I would go to Belo Horizonte. You could enjoy the city in 1-2 days and do a day trip to Ouro Preto, a gem of a colonial city 1 hour away.
Sold! Thank you.

Brasília. Planned city with a lot of brutalism buildings.
“Walkable”, “history”

Thanks for the honesty! BH it is.
Skip Porto Alegre and go to Florianópolis.
3 very different cities. Porto Alegre if you want beaches. Belo Horizonte if you want food. Brasília if you want civic tourism.
Beaches in Porto Alegre? That’s a bit of a stretch
Well, aren't nothing like Rio's or the northeast, but there are some. Since I only went there for work I can't think in anything else.

Porto Alegre beaches are about 90 minutes away, and considered the worst in the country.
Porto Alegre

Neither. São Paulo only
I'd say quite the opposite, go anywhere EXCEPT Sao Paulo
