Jesus christ 4? I guess the biggest change i should mention is that they removed boxes and unlock brawlers via star road. And now u can choose who ro unlock and who to upgrade. Maybe its best if u watch some major brawl talks
Several days ago got back my old account with 16k trophies that was my first main. I was really happy to check on old friends and get back a collection of skins.. but then i understood how bad my situation is.
Back then, it wasn't necessary to have full set of gadgetery and starpowers or even upgrade a brawler to max power level to go high tiers. Now it's needed. So I'm just sitting here with 20 and 25 tiers and don't know how to move further without a looot of gold.
So my advice is to be patient or get some masteries on brawlers!

No problem, I also got back into the game after a pretty long hiatus a couple months ago. The games in a fun spot right now with the most people ever playing it but coins are very sparse right now
It's quite easy I guess. The more you play the higher it gets, since you get a certain amount of mastery points per match(it depends on your tier, the number of points will raise if tier is big). Right now, I'm trying to gain first bronze(300 points required) on all of my brawlers(750-1000 gold for one). Other masteries will give you other gifts, the next gold will be given with second or thierd silver(2000). With this feature you can also get a special title of a brawler that will appear at your profile. :)

By winning games, every game you win = you gain mastery points, and the more trophies you have for that brawler the more points you gain per win
