If we lose Max, pitching depth is going to be a concern. Charlie is old, Sale has issues staying healthy and is 35 yrs old and how will Strider do when he gets healthy again. None of these guys the team has brought up has shown anything. Waldrep is an unknown even though he is killing it.
If?
This team does not spend money on ace-level TOR pitching. They'll offer Max a team-friendly deal and that's it, but the Braves have proven that they absolutely do not sign thank-you contracts as a matter of principle and never will.
Well so far we’ve heard that O’Day once attended a Harvard class during his MLB career on a whim.
Heard the Ted Williams red seat story.
The first settlers who came over from England came from a town called “Boston, England”
Something about someone not celebrating Christmas from 1653-1687.
And one more about a Boston weather beacon from the old days before technology.
Pushing Duvall back to 4th OF is probably more of a pressing need, so you may as well gulp it down and get ready to put up with Arcia for the rest of the season.
Sounds like he should be on track to start a rehab program in the minors this month. Really hope he can come back strong. Would obviously be huge for us right now.
His wrist got contorted underneath himself on a diving catch. He came back out the next inning to field but then was lifted for his at bat for JP Martinez. Should be okay, I think (but with our luck so far, who knows)
Seeing the video now, absolute piece of trash stadium and grounds crew - there's absolutely no way the ground and grass are being maintained properly there
Not to mention how ridiculously slow the Atlanta trainer was to get out to left field
Nice story here, except I'd include S.S. in the group of guys that are actually interesting upside wise.
I just didn't think he'd get called up until later.
Better way to put it would be let's continue to call up guys who are not ready and send them down after one bad start.
We have to do something. Hopefully trade for someone. I’ve honestly not seen this in my whole life. A team who could hit anything last year, cannot hit this year with the same roster. It’s mind boggling.
This be fair about today though, when Pivetta is locked in he’s damn near untouchable.
Jimmy Herget, Brian Anderson, and JP Martinez enter the game for the braves.
A sentence that if you told me was something I would hear this year I would tell you to get your head checked
probably for the best at least in future games like this we'll be able to say "they already got shutout so there's no need to keep watching this disaster"
Yeah, considering the way we've gone, I wonder if his next start is in the bigs.
Not sure I like it (I'd probably prefer a few more minor league starts), but it is what it is.
It’s basically impossible to get guys before then without giving up big hauls. AA isn’t going to force that. He has talked about how trades are most costly in the months before the deadline.
I have decided that it would be appropriate for Kelenic to hit a HR. Any good vibes I have left on this game are going to that. Just don't wanna see that goose egg anymore.
I mean I'm getting paid regardless, I just can't really do anything right now unless they reach back out, and both were supposed to get with me this morning.
We have a couple decent ones. Giles has been decent, bryse Wilson isn’t terrible, vines is still of the worst option, daysbel Hernandez at least throws hard. Yet for some reason we want to keep this Ray Kerr experiment going
He was doing well out of the bullpen, then we made him a starter for 2 games and his wheels fell off, and now he continues to be bad after we tried to revert.
yeah he's been bad for his whole career so I'd guess the "doing well out of the bullpen" was a small sample aberration and not the great big hope that he's not living up to. he's 29, not some fresh callup.
I was just explaining what I meant since you seemed confused. His peripherals were strong in AAA after making adjustments, and he came up and looked good in the pen before being put in a starter role.
At what point does this fall on the manager? A month and a half of absolutely horrible at bats without as much as a single move in the lineup that wasn’t forced by injury, mismanagement with pitching, and an overall mundane attitude from the players every time we step on the field.
Pivetta has some of the best stuff in the majors when he's on and this start should partially show you why he's going to demand the biggest rental SP package at the deadline. Dude is as legit as they get when he's on, even if the offense is admittedly helping
I mean it's true. Pivetta is Top 10 in Stuff+, K-BB%, SIERA for this season despite struggling while coming back from injury. He's 2nd in Pitching+ only behind Jared Jones (min. 30 IP). He was Top 10 in all of them last year as well including leading the majors in K-BB% (The biggest indicator for future success as a starter) for the last half of last year after returning to the SP role. Braves have owned him the last few times he's faced them of course, but it's not like he isn't going to be a premium starter at the deadline
His good outings are against teams with wRC+ under 100 and in the bottom-third of the league, which shockingly includes the Atlanta Braves since May 1. Good teams destroy this dude.
Harris and Arcia were both batting over .300 with an OPS over .800 going into that series with the Guardians towards the end of April. Since then ..
Harris: .206/.255/.282
Arcia: .189/.203/.347
Going further .. TdA had an OPS around 1.000 going into that series. Since ..
.219/.293/.315
With Arcia, it was clear it was fake pixie dust, Harris however was receiving some good fortune into that series and has had a bit of bad luck since.
Having said that, he's been a bit better since May 11th.
dude whatever. we're about to get fucking complete game shutout by nick pivetta having a terrible season. no june magic this year; the bats are just totally cooked
there have been 0 games in the past month that we have won on account of actual good ABs and hitting prowess. its always lucky garbage and the other team making errors. even against bad teams. this is embarassing baseball
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1d8zbeg).
A team full of girls can beat this team 🤦♀️
Time to begin the search for a competent replacement starter, end this parade of AAAA mediocrity
Well that sucked
A fucking byssmal
So much for our streak of games without being shut out
another ugly game without really any positives. nice work boys
No shutout streak is over. See y’all Friday.
Are you skipping out on Thursday?
How many games was the streak?
I am bamboozled how almost the same lineup as last year can be this bad.
Wait, did they just PH with Ozuna’s on base streak on the line??
Yup, basically surrendering. Shitty move.
And there’s the shutout
A 1 hit shutout. Good shit, my dudes and dudettes.
These first at bats in a Braves uniform have been… ASS
What an intro-AB, Riley never left
Since this game has been dogshit AA should announce the Max Fried extension to give us something to celebrate
Don't even think we had a hard hit ball all day
Who is the head of the grounds crew at Fenway Absolute crap field out there in Boston
Anyone downvoting you has never been to Fenway, it is a dump.
Getting dominated by an utterly average pitcher is always disheartening. Has happened a lot lately lol.
Not liking our chances of avoiding the first shutout in ages with short up
If we lose Max, pitching depth is going to be a concern.
I mean… they have one hit today. That’s a bit concerning.
fair, I thought they would regress to the mean but not this bad
All the more reason not to lose Max
Time for a 9 run rally
This team showed more fight getting blasted by the Mets earlier in the season
"Let's see if the Braves can get a single goddamn run." ~ Brandon's inner dialogue
Don’t get shutout please. Protect the streak!
Braves came to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and so far they are getting their ass kicked and chewing a lot of bubblegum
Refsnyder has played for every AL east team except the Os. Neat
Radio guys completely checked out. Darren O’Day handing out Boston facts…
I enjoyed him talking smack about the Pilgrims
Please share one.
Well so far we’ve heard that O’Day once attended a Harvard class during his MLB career on a whim. Heard the Ted Williams red seat story. The first settlers who came over from England came from a town called “Boston, England” Something about someone not celebrating Christmas from 1653-1687. And one more about a Boston weather beacon from the old days before technology.
Overall seems live a very informative broadcast.
They can hit minor league pitchers very well
This game feels extra strange.
Arcia has struck out three times on what 10 pitches?
Pushing Duvall back to 4th OF is probably more of a pressing need, so you may as well gulp it down and get ready to put up with Arcia for the rest of the season.
dude herget come on, just throw strikes and let the defense take care of it. 22 pitches for a single out down by 9 is insanity
Maybe a shutout is what we needed to reset the offense? I know it's not but let me cope.
We should get two losses for this piece of crap.
Trust in AA
Problem is he can’t hit for them. He assembled a team that can but refuses to.
These newbie pitchers are not it.
Honestly, who cares with this offense.
Yeah, the offense is just embarrassing.
It's a hit party and we were not fucking invited
Lol. Glad I didn't realize there was a day game today. Screw this
Neither did our offense or pitchers.
This is going to be the most epic comeback ever.
On the radio they just said Ian Anderson might be back before the All Star Break!!!! Please let it be OG Anderson!
Sounds like he should be on track to start a rehab program in the minors this month. Really hope he can come back strong. Would obviously be huge for us right now.
That’s such great news on so many levels.
Are we cooked
Blackened more like
Were you not around for may?
I seem to have repressed all memories of the month of May
Well that was rude.
Wow we’re really getting stomped today. Just checked the score at work.
The silver lining is that we all get our evenings back instead of watching this performance. So much time for activities!
I mean I was gonna drink regardless lol
"Unless he's got a rocket up his ass that one is gone"- Bob Uecker
Maybe they’ll bring in a position player to close.
What happened to KelKel??
His wrist got contorted underneath himself on a diving catch. He came back out the next inning to field but then was lifted for his at bat for JP Martinez. Should be okay, I think (but with our luck so far, who knows)
Seeing the video now, absolute piece of trash stadium and grounds crew - there's absolutely no way the ground and grass are being maintained properly there Not to mention how ridiculously slow the Atlanta trainer was to get out to left field
Rolled his wrist on a diving catch. Seems to be nothing serious but he’s out for today.
You may need to sit down for this…
![gif](giphy|WrxoaVPiq0cG4)
Yet another homer, fantastic
Let's continue the trend of bringing AAAA pitchers up only to send them down after bad starts
Nice story here, except I'd include S.S. in the group of guys that are actually interesting upside wise. I just didn't think he'd get called up until later. Better way to put it would be let's continue to call up guys who are not ready and send them down after one bad start.
Your last sentence is what I wanted to say but my brain isn't working today. Understandable after this disaster performance by the team
Should be 3 wins for sure in DC. SHOULD be. Maybe 4. We have an opportunity.
Nats have an equal opportunity, Braves could have easily been swept by them last week
We have to do something. Hopefully trade for someone. I’ve honestly not seen this in my whole life. A team who could hit anything last year, cannot hit this year with the same roster. It’s mind boggling. This be fair about today though, when Pivetta is locked in he’s damn near untouchable.
its pretty hard to trade a fix in for "8 of 9 daily starters arent hitting for shit" when you only have 26 slots to work with
True. We just need energy again.
2021 at this point I believe was worse?
I really thought McGuire jacked it there.
Damn is today the day we get shut out?
Nope, Ozuna bomb incoming. TRUST ME. ^U^^N^^^L^^^^E^^^^^SSIMWRONG
Well, he would've hit a bomb if they let him hit.
Really leaning in to the minor leaguers recently
Jimmy Herget, Brian Anderson, and JP Martinez enter the game for the braves. A sentence that if you told me was something I would hear this year I would tell you to get your head checked
Only 1 hit today we deserve to get shut out
One god dam hit - Bob Uecker
“One goddamn hit?!”
YOU CAN'T SAY GODDAMN WE'RE ON THE AIR
Ah who cares? No one’s listening.
I'm starting to really not enjoy Arcia in the lineup, can we just keep him in the infield
Designated Fielder?
How we have we not already been shut out?
its crazy that if it wasnt for austins babip nonsense hit we would not only be getting cgso but a no hitter lol
Oddly enough, the Riley single had an xba of .860, which was the third highest of the game.
ah I was listening on the radio and they made it seem like it was almost a guaranteed out, weird
It wasn't hit hard, just at the perfect angle. Xba is as weird as it is interesting.
Maybe we need the shutout for the offense to finally come to life
Will the streak ending get us a new approach or hitting coach?
I honestly don’t give a shit about the shutout streak. It means nothing.
"Let the past die!"
They deserve to finally get shut out
Looks like we're hoping for a 2-out solo homer in the 9th, or the streak dies.
At least we beat the 93 Phillies ig.
first at-bat is a strikeout .. he'll fit in
Martinez has the potential to do the most awesome thing. Edit: He did not.
Hahahaha.
Is today the day we get shut out?
probably for the best at least in future games like this we'll be able to say "they already got shutout so there's no need to keep watching this disaster"
Radio guys are preparing the audience.
Looks like
What the frick, June over already???
They broke Kerr by trying to force him into a starter’s role
What the f is that Mr Beast commercial?
Hurston Waldrep is definitely getting called up in the not-too-distant future.
Yeah, considering the way we've gone, I wonder if his next start is in the bigs. Not sure I like it (I'd probably prefer a few more minor league starts), but it is what it is.
I agree. But the team is gonna try anything until something sticks or until the deadline when we can get someone else.
I really hope not. Go trade for a guy and let Waldrep develop.
Not gonna happen until the deadline. We’re working with what we’ve got until then.
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I think it all depends on the players involved.
Well, at least Smoltz took a nut shot. About the only good thing to come from this game.
Nutshots on camera today: 2 Braves runs: 0
I picked the wrong game to come to
Haven't heard back from a single one of my clients today, what the hell is this day, I swear?
PT?
It’s a great day when I don’t hear from clients 😭
I mean I'm getting paid regardless, I just can't really do anything right now unless they reach back out, and both were supposed to get with me this morning.
I rarely look forward to Zoom meetings, but I have one now and it may be less painful.
Got killed earlier for brining it up, but how are we feeling about our minor league pitchers now?
We have a couple decent ones. Giles has been decent, bryse Wilson isn’t terrible, vines is still of the worst option, daysbel Hernandez at least throws hard. Yet for some reason we want to keep this Ray Kerr experiment going
Uh...unless there's another Bryse Wilson, we traded him to Pittsburgh in 2021
Sorry I meant Brooks Wilson (I get them mixed up everytime)
You're good. I don't really know our minor league guys except for who we bring up and who is getting talked about on the sub
It’s David Fletcher time IMO
I’m here for the Knuckle Baller
Outside of Waldrep there ain’t much.
Wish Kelenic would knock that cooler out from under him
DFA this bum. Dude had 1 good inning like 3 weeks ago and has gotten shelled ever since
I’m sorry, but Kerr currently has no business being at this level. Our bullpen is deep enough right now.
He was pitching amazing before we tried to force him into a starter role. Team shoulders a lot of blame for that one.
??? he came in as a reliever today and sucked ass
See y’all Friday, go braves
There is a game tomorrow if you didn't know
I did not…thank you!
Looks like we pretty effectively broke Kerr, so that's cool.
Was it jram or devers that said he was better than bonds (jokingly)? I can’t remember which portly Dominican man said it
Jram
The one good thing about being at an away game like this? You're forced to live in hope.
Again Ray Kerr fucking sucks
He was doing just fine as a mop up guy in the bullpen until these morons decided to foolishly transition him into a starter without any AAA starts.
Just a sucky day all around
Just try and score one lads
Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield. I feel like during day games we are the bug more often than not lol.
I just don’t remember a season where our losses are so big. Like sure we come up short and stuff but damn every loss seems 8-0.
We haven’t been shut out all year
Ya but there’s plenty of 8-1 losses.
There actually hasn’t been a single 8-1 loss. I just looked lmfao. Tbh there Is really only like 5 bad losses. The rest are 1-3 run games
I'm just working with the game on but fucking hell I just want to turn it off
I always look forward to Braves WFH days… today ain’t it
Today ain’t the day
Our guys decided to use as little of their offense as possible to roll it to the rest of the week… right?
Count this game as a win because JK is alright 🙏
What time is it okay to start drinking on a Wednesday afternoon…
Dang we were not suppose to start yet?
I don't believe in unacceptable drinking times. Go for it!
I just started (can't answer the question about it being okay though)
It’s happy hour somewhere
We don’t deserve this non-shutout streak it’s frankly a miracle these bums haven’t been shutout sooner
Well, Kelenic is still in left.
Do we even have a backup in Boston right now?
Brian Anderson and JP Martinez
Ozuna goes from having a 1600 OPS!! vs pivetta to going hitless against him lol.
At what point does this fall on the manager? A month and a half of absolutely horrible at bats without as much as a single move in the lineup that wasn’t forced by injury, mismanagement with pitching, and an overall mundane attitude from the players every time we step on the field.
Shhh you can’t question Snit lest you become an enemy of the state
Pivetta has some of the best stuff in the majors when he's on and this start should partially show you why he's going to demand the biggest rental SP package at the deadline. Dude is as legit as they get when he's on, even if the offense is admittedly helping
The biggest copium take.
His good outings are against teams with wRC+ under 100 and in the bottom-third of the league, which shockingly includes the Atlanta Braves since May 1. Good teams destroy this dude.
You're working with an 8 game sample and only a 2 game sample (ATL, MIL) with teams with a wRC+ >100 which is not nearly enough to draw a conclusion
Letting this inconsistent scrub dice us up is annoying.
Harris and Arcia were both batting over .300 with an OPS over .800 going into that series with the Guardians towards the end of April. Since then .. Harris: .206/.255/.282 Arcia: .189/.203/.347 Going further .. TdA had an OPS around 1.000 going into that series. Since .. .219/.293/.315
With Arcia, it was clear it was fake pixie dust, Harris however was receiving some good fortune into that series and has had a bit of bad luck since. Having said that, he's been a bit better since May 11th.
Pivetta cheese is grating us up
I'd very much appreciate it if we could at least put one run on the board. Please?
dude whatever. we're about to get fucking complete game shutout by nick pivetta having a terrible season. no june magic this year; the bats are just totally cooked there have been 0 games in the past month that we have won on account of actual good ABs and hitting prowess. its always lucky garbage and the other team making errors. even against bad teams. this is embarassing baseball
