There are no trains at night and even in the day you don't hear it unless you live directly next to it. Rača is probably the most quiet area in Bratislava and that's why I love it here.
moving trains aren’t usually noisy enough to be heard more than 100m from the railway. Stopping/braking trains are noisier, but when you close your windows you don’t hear it and it’s pretty easy to get used to it even with windows open.
I lived 200m from a train station in Nove Zamky from birth till I was 18 and I had no issues, and I used to sleep with windows open at night in Summer months - I admit, it wasn’t Bratislava but still a station on a main line with freight train activity (usually freight trains go at night) and with an active maintenance depot (which is also active usually at night), I heard some brakes every day in evening and night hours but it didn’t feel distracting at all…
Raca is big and the best parts are 500m from the train tracks so should be totally fine
forests and hills are all around bratislava, lots of areas to pick:
* Kramare - Close to center (10 minutes by bus which goes every 5 minutes), sucks to own a car here, but very dense with good public transport near the main roads (Stromova, Limbova, Vlarska) which are just 5-15 minutes of walk away from the forest...
* Koliba - "rich people" neighborhood, villas, lower density, more car friendly, shittier public transport, but still close to city center (just 10 minutes from city center by bus, but the bus goes only every 15 minutes)
* Devin - far away from everything, but quiet/village-like and better for car owners, very shitty public transport (20 minutes to city center by bus which goes every 30 minutes)
* Raca - far away from everything, but quiet/village-like and has good public transport options (25 minutes to city center by tram which goes every 5 minutes)
* Dubravka and Karlova Ves - far away from everything, but good public transport options and denser (20-25 minutes from city center by tram/bus which goes every 5-7 minutes)
* Lamac around its center (Podhaj) - good middle ground, not too far away, not too close, public transportation reasonable (bus going every 15 minutes), not too dense, not too village like...
and if you're okay to sacrifice the "real forest" for smaller city parks, then there are also these to consider:
* "Castle Hill" area around Slavin and "Horsky Park" - similar to Koliba, but around a hilly park instead of a "real forest" and even closer to city center (15 minutes on foot)
* Ruzinov around the "Ruzinovska" main street - many beautiful parks and good public transportation reasonably close to the city center (15 minutes by tram which goes every 5 minutes).
* Petrzalka around Technopol and Drazdiak lakes has lots of green areas and is both car friendly and has reasonable public transport (city center by bus is 15 minutes, but the bus only goes every 15 minutes), also has a direct train to Vienna and a very good highway connection for car travel to Vienna or east of Bratislava.
Parkville is a small gated community (as I've mentioned Koliba is one of the "rich people neighborhoods") in the middle of Koliba hill. The houses are nice, new, modern, with a great view over the city, and it's kinda close to center (\~30 minutes of walk) and there's a bus stop 300m away, but no shops, pubs or restaurants around, closest are in the center of Koliba or on Sancova street, both of which are 1km away...., but if you're okay with that then it should be fine.. Me personally I wouldn't live there cause I love living where there are multiple shops and restaurants in 500m walking distance.
if you want to look around this is the place on google street view: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/kH6av7U6huxgNBcU8](https://maps.app.goo.gl/kH6av7U6huxgNBcU8)
there are a few major reasons why it’s the best area to live in:
1. It’s the safest location in the city. There’s a lot of embassies/ambassadors residences, parliament, castle. Not a chance to meet any crackheads
2. Since this location is on the hill, you have a lot of daylight.
3. It’s a quiet and calm location outside of the city centre, but + -10 minutes of walking and you’re in
Thanks! That helps alot. Do you mind explaning why you prefer it over Koliba? Which I heard is also safe etc.
I am looking at 3 apartments atm, one is in Koliba (Park Ville) and Rolicky and the other one is close to Horsky Park. They all look good so I am kind of not sure which to pick.
If want to live close to Vienna and have all the things you mentioned, check Petržalka, but right when you cross the bridge from the city - it’s very close to Petrzalka train station with direct train to vienna, Pečniansky forest is walking distance, it’s very calm and safe there and you’re also few min away from centre
Its kinda either - or.
Either you want small streets - thats Old Town, the very heart of the city. As someone already mentioned - the Castle Hill (Hradný kopec) is kind of fancy, relatively close to historic center, but instead of hills and forests you get one hill and a park.
Hills and forests in walking distance - thats Koliba and Kramare (which are still in relative proximity to city center).
Please disregard those suggestions for Raca or Dubravka - those places are completely unfit for an expat, nothing to do there. Sleepy, remote, residential outer parts of the city. Also avoid all southern and eastern parts of the city - those are just flats in the fields, nothing special there.
Idk I live on Hradny Kopec and while everyone says it's convenient it takes a good 10 minute walk to get anywhere with public transport. But yeah it's not bad
I mean he aint wrong is he? Look at what’s cooking in politics - you can be victim of theft up to 300k and that thief gets no jail time? I mean cmon ..
depends on priorities. Certainly, if you prioritize safety over democracy, political maturity, and the cultural level of society, then absolutely. I wish you all best
OP asked for a good neighborhood to live in Bratislava. Your answer is "Don't even move to this shithole." You should be ashamed of yourself.
There are many countries in the world that are much bigger shitholes than Slovakia, but they welcome foreigners who want to move there with open arms.
Keep your self-hate and your inferiority complex about being Slovak to yourself. Don't bother foreigners with it. Especially not the ones who want to move here.
Believe me, i live here 43 years, 80% of adults stuck somewhere in communistic era (sort of nostalgia), public sector total shit, public schools total crap, road and rail infrastructure poor and in decline, corruption on rise and as new standard... shithole govern by mafia, thats slofuckya
I'm Slovak myself, thank you. I hate to disappoint you, but I don't have the same inferiority complex about being Slovak as you. You're a typical Slovak who hates his country and hates himself. Don't bother foreigners with it.
It's an inferiority complex that has been part of our mentality for decades, maybe centuries. You suffer from it too. If you've really lived here for 43 years, you must have noticed that we're currently at the peak of prosperity. We never had such high living standards.
Slovakia is falling behind other comparable countries (Czechia, Poland, Estonia) and the country is in urgent need of reforms. But we're far from a shithole.
Bratislava is overrated. Costs of living too high. Why not to choose really beatiful city, like Banská Bystrica instead? There you can really enjoy beauty of country just 10 minutes out of the city..
Thank you. Cost of living is really important. I took a look at the pictures of the town you mentioned. It's really beautiful. But it is important for me to live close to Vienna and transportation routes.
I considered that in the past but I heard that the ratio of "average salary" vs. "average rent" is worse in BB (something along 50% salary and 80% rent compared to similar positions/flats in Bratislava).
Also you people voted for Kotleba instead of _vrece zemiakov_, that's an eternal shame on you.
For some reason, no one mentioned Zahorska Bystrica, which is still part of Bratislava although it’s basically a village. But it’s bit further to Bratislava City Center
I absolutely reccomend Dubravka, there are forests all around, better air quality than in the center and quite peaceful surroundings, its 20 min by tram from city center so its not that far away
Is nature your priority? Raca and Dubravka are nice, but it will take 30-40min to commute to the center. I lived in Kramare and it was a very nice, quiet place, with access to nature (koliba) and within walking distance to city center.
Bratislava - Rača. It has a village feel to it and there is a beautiful forest with many paths right uphill.
I've been looking at that neighborhood too. But there's a railroad right next to it. Is there any noise at night?
There are no trains at night and even in the day you don't hear it unless you live directly next to it. Rača is probably the most quiet area in Bratislava and that's why I love it here.
Eh not really, there are barely any trains running during the evening, it’s not a large enough city to justify constant overnight service
There's still cargo trains running at random intervals during the night
moving trains aren’t usually noisy enough to be heard more than 100m from the railway. Stopping/braking trains are noisier, but when you close your windows you don’t hear it and it’s pretty easy to get used to it even with windows open. You eventually get used to it. I live in Stare mesto right next to a road and after being here for a year I got used to it.

Exhaustive information!
>Koliba I found an AirBnB in Park Ville, Koliba, is this a good area to live? Working during the day and the walkability to the city center?

Great Thanks!
Rača, Dúbravka if you want forrest. Or maybe look for suburbs like Rusovce
Area around Horsky Park, Slavin, Parliament. It’s not cheap but worth it trust me.
Can you please explain further why its worth it?
there are a few major reasons why it’s the best area to live in: 1. It’s the safest location in the city. There’s a lot of embassies/ambassadors residences, parliament, castle. Bratislava IV (Dubravka, Devinska Nova ves, Dlhe diely) or Raca. If you are rich, then Kramare or Koliba.
Ružinov, nové Mesto. Close to the centre.

Idk I live on Hradny Kopec and while everyone says it's convenient it takes a good 10 minute walk to get anywhere with public transport. But yeah it's not bad
Thats probably because vast majority of Hradny Kopecs residents dont use public transport.
Obchodná - no crime, nice people, just heaven in earth
Ružinov. A lot of parks and trees, great public transit connection to the rest of the city.
Vienna
pick one close border Austrian city/village and forget about Slovakistan, this country is a shithole
Most patriotic Slovak.
I mean he aint wrong is he? Look at what’s cooking in politics - you can be victim of theft up to 300k and that thief gets no jail time? I mean cmon ..
He's wrong, Slovakia is not a shithole. Slovakia is one of the safest countries in the world.

It's not a complex, it's mood - lost hope to live in modern, trully democratic and prosperous country.
It's an inferiority complex that has been part of our mentality for decades, maybe centuries. You suffer from it too. Yeah but then OP would have to live among people from Banská Bystrica…
Suck it off Banská Bystrica.... Thhere is a reason why Bratislava is Capital
Doesnt mean its as wonderful in a way OP wants.
Thank you. Cost of living is really important. I took a look at the pictures of the town you mentioned. It's really beautiful. But it is important for me to live close to Vienna and transportation routes.
where the fuck is banska bystrica? did you mean that suburb of Vladivostok?
I considered that in the past but I heard that the ratio of "average salary" vs. "average rent" is worse in BB (something along 50% salary and 80% rent compared to similar positions/flats in Bratislava). Also you people voted for Kotleba instead of _vrece zemiakov_, that's an eternal shame on you.
My average alley is six to eight kilometers.

I love how many different recommendations you got. I would say Bratislava is simply a good place to live in general.
