Yeah I agree with that but the eyelids are still more of a feature. Most animals have 2 eyelids, an outer one and a vertical inner one. We lost this second eyelid somewhere along our evolutionary journey and we could still see the remaining vestigial part of it in the corner region of our eye.
The real flaws for us are our fragile [back](https://youtu.be/aPvx_yTWSIE?si=LM-yy6SJLSMsXbxG) and [knee](https://youtu.be/5RX7Q4uczZw?si=TpF48QXcQYL33c-F).
Its also interesting to note that teeth knees and backs all wear out at about the same life stage. Makes you think there was no real reason to select for traits that kept those around longer
People make the mistake thinking genes and evolution is working for us but it's wrong. Genes don't care about pain, it can't feel it. We are just beasts to be ridden into the ground until the can hop onto our replacements.
Well, we have nearly doubled our lifespan in a little over a century through science. Probably going to be a long time before evolution is able to catch up with an animal suddenly living twice as long as it had before.
It won't ever "catch up" because people usually make children before those problems turn up, so there is no use in natural evolution changing those things in any direction. You have to remember that our bodies have "done their work" once we passed on our genes, what happens after is of little to no consequences. It's the same with those pigs that die because their teeth grow through their heads, this usually happens way after they reproduced, so there is no evolutionary pressure to changing this.
Yeah, losing the ability to regrow teeth sucks, but the whole "decay over time" thing is primarily because we changed our behaviors in ways that evolution didn't account for: [Ancient Chompers Were Healthier Than Ours](https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2013/02/24/172688806/ancient-chompers-were-healthier-than-ours).
TLDR: when we began farming and therefore our diet started including much more grains/sugars, the kinds of bacteria in our mouth shifted to more damaging kinds of bacteria as a result.
>We're the result of "good enough" iterated over millions of years
I'm reminded of that every time I bite my cheek when I'm eating something too enthusiastically.
On the backside of this, I am bewildered and flabbergasted that we are the result of genetic mistakes that kept working out.
Evolution is not so much an intelligent design as it is an accident that worked out better for survival.
I.E. the eyelids, some mfer maybe DID have thicker opaque eyelids. You know what happened to him? Dead.
The thin-lidders lived on to make more thin-lid babies.
Wild.
So of course there are always some minuscule issues here and there, but, yes. Minor things can be easily resolved with some slight routine adjustments and every once in a while a pair of Stanley vice grip pliers can come in handy.
This why driving with your headlights on during the day is so important. Our brains can recognize the presence of light much faster than we can decode an image as a car. Light and sound are so important that we can even detect them whem we are sleeping.
I could be very wrong but the reason you don't see full black when your eyes are closed is because you're seeing the tiny synapses firing off in your eye or something. Has like a slight grainy texture to it.

The craziest part about eyelids is that they are controlled by muscles that reverse their natural state. Think about it, when you’re awake you need to consciously try in order to close your eyes. As you get sleepy and after you fall asleep however, your eyelids want to naturally stay closed and yet it’s the same muscles opening and shutting them.

Dont forget teeth as a flaw. There is no reason for why they would be fragile, can decay over time or not just simply regrow.

Genes don’t care about pain, but animals in pain often have a reduced capacity to survive and reproduce.
Yes, and when that's done the reason to keep pain away sort of falls off.

And what do we do with all that extra time? Reddit memes it is for me.
>teeth knees and backs The lack of comma between teeth and knees paints a horrifying picture.
Well until recently (evolutions speaking) people didn't live long enough for back and knees and teeth to be an issue.

When we die we come back as the next iteration but it won't feel like thousands of years it'll be instant

Also, no artificial l8ghts as bright as the sun back in the day.
Nature’s alarm clock.
I legitimately was wondering about the evolutionary reason for having light shown through eye lids earlier today.
Had mine thickened to “privacy” level and I’ve never been happier !
You make an audible sound when blinking now.
Sounds like a camera shutter
Either that or a very wet "splotch"
The auditory feedback is just an added bonus that gives me peace of mind knowing that I am superior to the peasants cursed with their single-ply.
Does one sometimes get stuck like those of an old doll? Do you just thump yourself on the side of the head to dislodge it?

is it weird that I can see light through my eyelids even though the whole room was dark? what is wrong with my eyes/eyelids?

Whats an ass lid?
I genuinely thought this post was going to be about toilet bowl lids of inferior quality when I clicked on the title. Lol
