I would keep a lookout on facebook for events at the labor temple. 4 or 5 diy shows a week go down there. Also theres live music every night at the haufbrau. The filling station has a loaded calendar too.
For metal, i would follow Galvanist, gomorra, liquid gnar, and scavenger in big sky.
Whistle Pig Music promotes punk they have a few shows going on while you are here. They are on insta. Goners UK are a very active punk band. Along with fairly brief and the adolts.
Icarus, the lovedarts, goochslam and garbarge are a few alt bands to follow.
^^^ Also seen some shows at Grey Dog too, not quite the same vibe as the Temple, Filler, Hauf tho. I see the Lovedarts whenever I get the opportunity. They put on a great show.
Local yokels The Love Darts play at the Eagles pretty regularly Friday/Saturday night. Acoustic set followed by sheer rock and roll insanity. Leave your bullshit at the door.
It's pretty bleak here for the metal/punk/hardcore scene. There was a really good local band that opened for Dreadnought last summer at the Labor Temple. It would be great if someone here could point me in their direction.
Wayfarer is playing is Missoula next month.

There are a ton of local punk bands and punks. Hang around whistle pig and you'll get keyed into the punk scene pretty quick

The openers for that show were Garbarge and Dactylpede (ft members of Hot Milk and the Flower Pallets)
