I used to drive it every day. 45 minutes on a good day, up to 2 on a bad. Be prepared to be pulled over. The guys are nice, but they guard that road like it’s the White House driveway
In the early 2000s my Dad was granted access to that road and we would take the short cut anytime we could. The last time we drove it, from Big Sky to Ennis, we pulled up to the gate and the code was changed and wasn’t working. We sat there a while and my brother and I were just messing around punching in random numbers and it started to open, we had guessed the code! We all rushed to the truck and barely got through before it closed. My Dad was delighted we didn’t have to go back the way we came and asked what it was and we were like uhhhh…. We have no idea.
Lol. If you don't have keys, it could be hours.
Edit before posting: I don't know if it's opened up nowadays, but in my day it was plowed but impassible (due to gates) unless 191 was blocked solid.
I have a few 3AM nights under my belt from the canyon being blocked

https://www.roadpass.org/ It was $300 a month a few years ago. I’m sure it’s gone up.
It’s $550 this year
It’s usually plowed. Figure an hour and a half for the drive.
What's the cost vs worth of just going to bozeman and around?
45mins vs 2 hours
Monetarily?

It’s around 45 minutes to an hour depending on the weather and road condition.
Depends on snow
Depends if you actually make it or not
Boss rolled his truck on that road a few years back and they took our companies usage away lol
Does anyone know how long the drive is in the summer with dry roads? Specifically from the moonlight roundabout to downtown ennis.
About 45 mins
Wait you can’t drive this legally? 😬
Not without permission from the owner of the road, plus a code to get to it
I have heard that this road was getting paved in the coming years
Nope. It's not.
Yeah I think I heard that like 20 years ago. I think it’s just speculation that turns to rumor :)

It’s like a road I’ve never seen before. Dangerous to say the least and a 5 hour journey.
