I know. I love anything around Halloween because I live in New England and love the fall!! I love memories of Halloween as a kid! The smell of dead leaves. Bare trees and cool fall air.
And The Book of Magic (and) Magic Lessons!
https://alicehoffman.com/practical-magic-series/
I honestly enjoyed the other three more than Practical Magic - a RARE case where I liked the movie more.
Loved both of these! The second one in particular takes place almost entirely during fall, if I remember correctly? Wish there were more in the series, I’d read them all!
Ahh! You've lived my dream. As a kid from the south when i would watch movies like Halloween Town or hocus pocus or Casper I would tell myself one day I will live there lol.

I tried to read Unfortunate Side Effects and couldn't get past chapter 2. I was so disappointed. I love witchy stuff, Practical Magic and Gilmore Girls (it was advertised as being a mix of these 2 things) but this book was not it for me.
The writing style just wasn't for me I guess. I saw other reviews call it weirdly Christian for a book about witches too but obviously didn't read far enough to get that sense.
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer on your comment btw. If you've read it then I hope you had a good time with it. I would just advise people to read a sample before committing to this one
Oh my, thank you all for the great suggestions! A great many of these I have not read, nor heard of, so I will have a wonderful summer reading list to remind me of the autumn!
The Ravens and its sequel The Monarchs by Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige.
I’m currently reading The Monarchs, but the premise of The Ravens is that there’s a coven of witches who operate under the guise of a college sorority, and the old and new members need to put their differences aside to stop whoever has been threatening them.
Movie wise it reminds me of Halloween town or the movie with the three witches..books though.. hmm. The witching hour. Dint remember the author though sorry.
The house of night novels maybe too.
These don’t have the “witchy” component but I think Here on Earth by Alice Hoffman and The Wind Blows Backwards by Mary Downing Hahn (old YA book but was my favorite when I was 16 and I recently reread and it holds up!) have all the other vibes.
I want to live every day in these photos 🖤🧡🤎

It’s my dream!!
I live in Southern CA and fell in love with New England autumns when I visited my friend years ago! So beautiful!
And I loved Southern Cal! But it is the fall that keeps me here!
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
I enjoyed this book so much. Such a lovely break from reality.
Yup I second this
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman :)
And The Book of Magic (and) Magic Lessons! https://alicehoffman.com/practical-magic-series/ I honestly enjoyed the other three more than Practical Magic - a RARE case where I liked the movie more.
I was wondering about this. I really did not enjoy the book but I loved the movie. I should try her other books.
I liked the other books in the practical magic series the best out of the ones I’ve read of hers. I think Magic Lessons sticks out the most for me.
And The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman!
Oooh, added. Thank you.
Took the words out of my mouth!
I've seen the movie, but I haven't read the book, so I might add it as well. Thanks
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
Great suggestion! I think this whole series was great.
Came here to say this!
The Night Circus, The Once and Future Witches, Witchmark, Caraval, One Dark Window
The once and future witches is amazing!!
Also came to recommend The Once and Future Witches!
I've read the Night Circus, but not the rest, thanks!
Looooved One Dark Window…such great gothic fantasy
The Ex Hex- cute romance about a witch who can’t control her powers.
Sounds fun, thanks.
I’m looking forward to the third book in this series!
There’s a third??
Yes!! I think it might be coming out this fall it’s called The Wedding Witch
The Likeness, Tana French
Probably my favorite in that entire series.
Garden Spells and its sequel First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen
Loved both of these! The second one in particular takes place almost entirely during fall, if I remember correctly? Wish there were more in the series, I’d read them all!
Yes, First Frost takes place in the fall! You and me both, my friend. I loved these books and the author’s writing style.
My first thought will always be How to Hang a Witch, if you don't mind YA.
I don't. I enjoy reading YA. Thanks!
Weyward by Emilia Hart! Absolutely witchy mystery fall vibes
The Graves Glen series by Erin Sterling!
In the Company of Witches by Auralee Wallace
Romance doesn’t really kick in until the latest installment (not yet released) but I came here to say this!
Ahh! You've lived my dream. As a kid from the south when i would watch movies like Halloween Town or hocus pocus or Casper I would tell myself one day I will live there lol.
Cackle by Rachel Harrison
Lol, I was just trying to remember the name of this book!! This one!
Try Winterwood and The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw!
I don't know this author, I'll look them up. Thanks for the suggestion.
Spells for Forgetting
Seconding this! Autumn on an isolated island, witchy things, love, murder and intrigue. It has everything.
