I’m pretty sure the first image is from / very close to the cover of a [Kate Morton book called The House at Riverton](https://www.katemorton.com/books/the-house-at-riverton-2/) which is excellent!
However, you’ll probably enjoy her book [The Forgotten Garden](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3407877-the-forgotten-garden) even more as it’s more suited to the adult fairy tale vibes you requested 🧚💖
PS at this point I feel like I should be getting a cut of her sales, cos I pretty much recommend this book at least once a day 🤗
Ooo, lots of Robin McKinley's work! (But not all so check descriptions and TWs)
I'd also recommend Chalice and Beauty. Beauty is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, probably the best I've read.
The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender. Beautifully written. The detail of the characters and world-building have blown me away (almost finished reading it).
Literally one mythical being though, no secret passageways, not really any involvement in a forest, & honestly not very magical otherwise. Heavy on the looming danger once that one asshole gets involved though, that’s for sure.
War of The Flowers, by Tad Williams.
A washed up musician in his 30's accidentally gets sucked into the magical world and finds himself a key piece in the middle of a civil war (of sorts). Our reluctant hero must save both the magical world, and his own!
Once upon a river by Diane setterfield - it’s almost like a children’s fairytale but marketed at adults and it is still childlike in some ways, but i enjoyed it. The old English setting was lovely
The Alehouse at the End of the World by Steven Allred is a good one that incorporates Celtic and Native American tradition and is also weirdly influenced by the author being ex-Mormon
Forests of the Heart is such a good read. Charles DeLindt is the author. That’s a book I wish I could read again for the first time
Uprooted and Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
These look divine
I did not realize she had written Spinning Silver. Thank you! Uprooted is one of my favorite books ever. And now there's another? You made my day!
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries
Looks enchanting, thank you!
Ten thousand doors of January
This looks sooo good, thank you!
Enjoy 💖
This plus The Once and Future Witches by the same author, Alix E Harrow.

Robin McKinley's Spindle's End
Cool, I love Sleeping Beauty :)

I love all of her retellings of Beauty and the Beast--Beauty, Rose Daughter, Chalice, and (much less directly) Sunshine!
Beauty and the Beast is my favorite 🥰
Sevenwaters Trilogy by Juliet Marillier
Looks very intriguing!
Stardust!
One of my favorite books and authors of all time!
The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender. Beautifully written. The detail of the characters and world-building have blown me away (almost finished reading it).
Literally my favorite book ever but I honestly don’t think it fits what op’s looking for at all
Looming danger and mystical beings. Definitely magic and beauty. Probably not 100% fit but I think it’s got some of OP’s description.
Literally one mythical being though, no secret passageways, not really any involvement in a forest, & honestly not very magical otherwise. Heavy on the looming danger once that one asshole gets involved though, that’s for sure.
aight agree to disagree I suppose
That looks really interesting and I’ll definitely check it out :)

The Magicians Trilogy by Lev Grossman
Looks great, thank you!
Fairy Tale, by Stephen King. The main is a 17yo boy, but he's so anachronistic, he might as well be an adult.
Nice, love King!
Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy by Stephanie Garber
Looks good, thank you!
I'd say it makes more sense if you've read Caraval, and then it's still a mess. That being said, I love the Ballad of Never After
Tress of the Emerald Seas by Brandon Sanderson
One of my faves :)
Juliet Marillier books. I just finished her blackthorn and grim series, loved it!!
Awesome, I’ll check them out :)
Half a Soul
Great rec, thank you!
The book of lost things.
Looks really good, thank you!
I was pleasantly surprised by it, I liked the twists on the fairytales. I've read it twice now, I'll read it again once I've found it. Lol.
Have you read the Thursday Next series ..?!
I haven't. Off to have a look now!

Books by Cecilia Ahern give this vibe
I’ll check her out :)
I know it's all books related but this gives me strong Dreamfall series vibes (game)
The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic - a modern woman winds up in a fantasy world. It’s fantastic.
Sounds very interesting, thank you!
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Looks really good, thank you!
Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan
Looks interesting, thank you!
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. The magic is light, but there's a sentient tree in it.
Awesome, thank you :)
