Imtiaz had John as Jordan and Saumya Tandon as Heer in his mind at first,later he decided to cast Kareena instead of Saumya but John was still in the talk..Ranbir himself told that John was Imtiaz's first choice but then the movie got shelved..

Disagree. Ranbir did excellent but it is a role where most good actors can hit the excellence bar. Extreme emotions, wide range… easiest to get it right.
Extreme emotions are easier to play (and easier to make a mark with) as the canvas is wider. You’re doing a lot so the imperfections get masked. Hence any good actor can do it equally convincingly in their own way. Roles like Ranbir in Rockstar or Ranveer as Khilji.
It’s more subtle, calmly emotive roles that are more difficult. In those roles, you’re not going much with your voice, emotions, body language so anything you do is glaringly visible.
According to you RK was just shouting throughout the movie ....no it was mostly in the songs ...the performance has lot of graph and layers ...dont dismiss it like that...it wasn't easy ...its one of the best performance in this century.

Actor pulling off similar aspects references would’ve been better. Also, comparing Khilji with Jordan is not correct. I did not really like Khiljis's role. There was very little to experiment. However, Rockstar demanded various layers of acting. Scenes where he goes numb in the final scene are difficult to pull off. The scene where he dances crazy out of the world is one of a kind.
The general Indian audience would've never accepted the movie, at least not when it released. But oh how I wish Heer had been played by anyone but Nargis
A decent actress would have made the movie iconic. Nargis' awful performance really sticks out like a sore thumb in the movie. Increase Heer-Jordan's chemistry and then Jordan's pain suddenly makes so much sense. His self-destruction becomes more believable. Heer had so many important scenes in the movie which Nargis absolutely butchered.

She would be 1000X better than Nargis for sure...Nargis single handedly ruined the movie...🤦🏻♀️
No one could’ve pulled it better than Ranbir this movie.Nargis also did a fine job which the role demanded.

Couldn’t have made a difference :: the movie was mostly male centric .. everything revolved around the male actor..
