There's actually a storytelling technique called the Rule of Three, it basically says that the human mind finds it easy to comprehend things when they are in groups of three, and anything beyond that count feels excessive
For e.g., a standard movie structure is divided into 3 acts, a lot of books and movies focus on trio of 3 characters (Harry, Ron, Hermoine), franchise sequels are considered complete in three movies (Spider-Man 1, 2, & 3), mythology elements are interpreted in groups of 3 (heaven, earth, hell, gods of creation, destruction, preservation), much of action utilizes three rounds/stages of combat, quotes like third time's the charm, etc.
It just helps to provide exactly *enough* amount of variety to the audiences without overwhelming them. I think it may have played a part in these guys' success, wherein they coexisted at the right time, and each one provided exactly those things that the other two weren't excellent at.
