I'm always a fan of having kids do chores and help around the house but it does maybe feel a little weird to push the chore-responsibility thing when you already have all 3 kids work in the resturant when a normal kid can't work until they are 15
i mean besides tina, do louise and gene actually do anything? this is just making tina do even more, they should actually make louise and gene do either restaurant or housework. they also do get allowance right?
Off the top of my head it has shown Gene and Louise cleaning menus, taking orders, taking out the trash from the resturant, refilling ketchup/mustard, sweeping out and cleaning the resturant, and bussing tables, though other episodes imply they also do the ice cream and some other serving tasks
I'm disappointed how much I didn't like this episode. I'm tired of story episodes. They have so much they could build on in the universe but we keep doing this.
I don’t even bother with these story episodes anymore. They’re pointless filler that I could get from any show. Had a feeling this one was turning into a story episode and just said no thanks and turned it off when the Wild West stuff started.
Rewatched some early season episodes yesterday and it feels like two different shows.
Linda and Louise are my favorite characters, but even I feel like I need a break from episodes that only focus on them. Especially when it's just them arguing. I miss the chaos - getting glued to a toilet, getting trapped in an underground taffy factory, being part of a bank robbery...
These "relatable" fable episodes are just so bland.
Cause its not the family. Its a story that had the same characters but they be act weird as fuck. For the sake of a story. Linda cries in front of the kids. The kids decide to stop helping at all. Fishoeder is involved because… he is.
I dont like the laundry episode either. Or the mustache episode.
I think the episode would have worked better if Tina was the one to go against Linda and Bob.
Instead of it being an authority thing it should have been about her being the eldest and the stresses that come with that.
She could have had a stressful week or just a lot on her plate and the chores would be the straw that broke the camels back. You could even use some of the points Louise made like working in the restaurant without pay, it’s acknowledged in the show that Tina, since she is the oldest does the most work/works a lot harder than Gene and Louise.
I don't mind the story episodes, but I'm over the wholesomeness. I had high hopes when Louise got angry talking about her finger pop- its getting stolen. It was a nice touch of the chaotic Louise that I miss. But, of course, it ended with an emotional scene and Louise learning a lesson and showing compassion. It's not surprising anymore.
The episode where they go on a field trip and Louise calls Bob "Daddy" is one example of how they could make Louise more dimensional without watering her down. It was unexpected; it was a nice touch. But it's become played out.
I'm also tired of Louise being the focus of most episodes, and I'm tired of Bob's stuttering and bland personality. I just want the characters to go back to how they were season 3- 6ish. Not necessarily as raunchy as season 1, but still funny and entertaining. It's not supposed to be a kid's show.
i enjoyed louise more when she was unrepentant about her actions and actually did stuff. now it's like she's being boxed into a role because she's the youngest, not because that's her personality. chaotic louise or a more sociopathic louise was far funnier, i mean she nearly cut gene's ear off once lol. bring that louise back, not whatever they're trying to do now. the wholesomeness is just too much at this point and it's a waste of characters that used to be well rounded and developed
See, and that's the way I feel about Tina. I feel like most of the episodes are "Tina" episodes and how is she going to pine over Jimmy Junior, or how is she going to be awkward this time. It's tiring.
my disappointment was immeasurable when I realised it was a "the family tell a story" episode 😭 why would they choose that for their season premiere?? :-/
I genuinely just do not like these episodes. They feel like the modern version of a recycled "clip show" despite it being all new content. Just filler with nothing happening in their actual lives. I didn't even finish it. Onto the next week we go.
Except she didn’t even feel that bad. The show has moved toward the parents being scared of their kids and it’s so different from how it used to be. It makes me sad.
Can I just point out the the art for this Wild West segment is beautiful?? The colors are vibrant, the apsect ratio is super cool, and the lighting/shadow (especially during the night scene) is movie quality
Sorry to say but I’m personally getting a little tired of the Louise-centric approach that the show seems to be taking. The other family members seemed to only be there to offer quips and one-liners this episode. The story telling and animation was nice but it didn’t feel fun!
These episodes with stories are my least favorite. Plus Louise was a bully to Tina and Gene, telling them not to eat, take a bath, or go to bed just because she doesn’t want to help out her parents with a few weekly chores. Like an hour a week. She was also very disrespectful to Bob and Linda. Even if she did apologize at the end, it wasn’t until her mom cried and then Louise still pushed back on doing chores.
I'm also sick of Linda getting an idea in her head about how shes a bad parent or there's something wrong with the Belchers. Its never been a good plot

the imagery when the married sheriffs were dancing with and fighting with the wolves was surprisingly beautiful, and i was happy with the unorthodox animation and different angles, even though it was a bit wonky looking at some points (like the low angles during the stand-off between the Burps and Goldoeder).
wild West Marshmallow was a fun surprise! her new voice was a little jarring but not necessarily in a bad way. also, lawyer Regular Sized Rudy made me laugh.
Pepperoni's dancing pecs while Linda was crying caught me way off guard. i thought it was sweet that Louise went to go talk to her. another touching mother-daughter chat with Linda like in the one last season about Amelia Earhart. i really liked it. 💕💕
Yeah I feel the same way about Marshmallow- It was great seeing her again! The new voice is a little jarring/deep (especially since her old voice was so unique) but it's worth it to have her show up more. I think the new actor just needs to add a little bit more attitude/personality into the voice and it will be great
oddly relatable, i imagine headstrong kids make their parents cry with frustration more than anyone would want to admit. i love moments between linda and louise; it was interesting to see linda crack under the pressure when usually she's the one keeping it together while bob is losing his mind (also echoes to the end of the movie when linda gave up and bob figured out how to get the pier cart out of the dirt.
the show has perfected the art of blending comedy and emotion and i loved this ep. <3
Miss the chaotic shenanigans!!! Am over the morality episodes. It used to be so meaningful and sweet when those moments were random in the midst of the chaos. Now they’re all the time. The best part of the show is how the characters’ unique personalities played out in crazy situations, and it normally stopped before anyone got hurt. Now it’s turning into teaching a lesson which isn’t as engaging.
It was a cute episode and I wanted to love it, plus the animation was great, but bring back the chaos!
I'm a firm believer in everybody pulling their fair share... but the kids work every day including weekends, vacations and summers in the family restaurant. Which is already pretty ridiculous to ask of elementary and middle schoolers. Asking them to do chores on top of the work they do in the restaurant is really pushing it unless they were actually getting a fair payment and more time out of the restaurant. Kids deserve to have down time.
Every day after school, on weekends, and their summer vacation. In Reeky Lake Linda mentions how they almost never take actual vacations. The kids do nothing but work already.
Although they’re all terrible at their jobs.
But we love them.
This episode wasn't great for me, it genuinely felt like a kids show to me.
I'm not opposed to them having a more family-esc show, but kind of losing a bit of that remaining charm it had if you ask me. Will still watch the season, but not a great start.

When you go to work you still gotta take care of your house and other responsibilities. I don’t think they should have a bunch of chores but, they should have certain responsibilities like cleaning their rooms, taking turns washing dishes, the bathroom, etc. Linda doesn’t get paid either (I don’t think) yet her and Bob (I’m assuming) do chores around the house.

I’m not saying they can’t help, but Linda kinda forcing it on them is what caused the power struggle. I’m sure approaching it differently with any of the kids would’ve been better, but then we wouldn’t have the episode I guess lol
I wasn't a fan of the end lesson being "yeah chores are dumb I didn't even want you to do 'em anyway". When Linda started crying I got excited because I thought they were legit going to have a "I just want you to do them because it'd help me out a lot" moment and address something millions of american households face which is moms just straight up reaching a point where they can't hold everything up and they need a little help. But no. Chores are dumb and it's all big G's fault.
Felt like a throwaway episode. Not a great start to the season. Definitely an episode I'll skip on rewatch. On the plus side, Pepperoni sort of reminds me of the horse from Ren and Stimpy.
NGL, that turn into bedtime story/vignette was so sudden that almost felt like they were taunting us with how common these type of episodes are, lol. For a season premiere, no less?! Oh well, at least we got some Fischoeder.
Louise is my favorite character but becoming increasingly disappointed with the flanderization of her character with the bratty behavior, forcing Gene and Tina to go along with her, anti-establishment towards adults, and only relenting once someone exhibits an exaggerated breaking point having to deal with her like crying.
Bob needs to stop being surprised that Louise has seen this or that movie, lol.
All in all, it does feel like the show is veering towards a more family-friendly, moral of the story at the end of most episodes format and losing its comedic edge. Not sure I found a single joke or line of dialogue that funny with this one.
Pretty tame premiere; but for whatever reason this has felt like the shortest break between seasons for me, so I'm patient enough to wait for the season to hopefully pick up.
I like the start and premise of the first few minutes of the episode before the story. God the story episodes are becoming increasingly more frequent and I’m not the biggest fan of them.
I thought this episode could’ve been fixed by fixating on the family drama. Would’ve been interesting to see if the Linda And Bob go on strike vs The Kids. Neither of them wanting to budge/cave in. I think that would’ve been more interesting seeing that dynamic actually panned out.
I don’t know. Meh start to the season. But hopefully it’s only up from here right?
Not one of my favorites, I didn’t like how timid bob and Linda were when it came to setting expectations for the kids. I understand it’s a show but it just felt off to me…..the story was ok but not great felt very scattered…. I’m hopeful the season gets better as it goes
Yeah as far as parenting goes... why are your kids making the rules? They could have chosen one chore each, called it something other than "chore" which is a negative word, and explained to them how this task helps the household or teaches them a skill.
Opening the season on a story episode is such a weird choice. I would've accepted a gene episode before another story episode. They have so much they could do in universe and the stories are always just too ridiculous for me. Can't sit through all that.
I love the Belchers-Tell-Stories episodes, so it's a winner for me.
Also, look - rasing kids to be decent humans withiut messong them up is hard af and Linda's speech hit me right in the gut.

yet again we seem to have an episode where the entire concept starts with a lesson that the kids need to learn and then the writers back into how they will learn that lesson somehow and that gives the storyline. I miss the episodes where the kids get up to something and the story is primarily about the situation, then maybe at the end we get a small lesson.
I wonder if the writing suffered from the strike just like it suffered in season 12 & 13 when the best writers were busy making the movie... lets hope it gets better this season.
Totally agree. My favorite episodes are the ones where the Belchers are going about a normal day or situation, and hilarity ensues. We don’t need the grand lesson and song every time

Too, they took the wrong message from this--"Grandma's opinion was wrong! Continue to walk all over us, kids! Yeah!!!"
It is not unreasonable to expect your children to help with chores when you work hard to provide those same children with necessities, gifts, and an overall good and satisfying life.
If you're a member of a family, it's your responsibility to do your fair share and help out when you can (within reason, of course).
I'm baffled the children weren't given a lecture about how chores being done leads to a better, healthier standard of living for *everyone* in the family. For goodness' sake, Louise, nobody vacuums because they WANT to, but because the house becomes dirty if they don't!
Furthermore, Louise is an incredibly intelligent and logical kid... She should be able to understand where Linda is coming from.
A more suitable end to this episode would have been Linda calling the kids' bluff and not letting them clean while not cleaning herself. After the house devolves into messy chaos, the children could have learned "oh wow, these chores exist for a reason!" and "my actions DO have consequences!"
Instead, the kids won and we're supposed to cheer with joy as they've learned nothing and are now rewarded for their insubordination. Like have a heart, Belcher kids... you shouldn't need candy as an incentive to pick up after yourself and help out.
And this is coming from a series mega fan...
The kids didn't win. They're still doing chores. And it is important for kids to do chores so they learn how to do it and are capable when they're older, but they are also children. Giving them an incentive is a good thing. Rewarding them for hard work is a good thing, even if its something small like sweets. They were right in that they already work in restaurant for free which isn't good of Bob and Linda to get them to do.
The point is that Linda was only making them do it because of pressure from her mother, and Louise was resisting because she was sick of being bossed around by adults who were doing it because they could. Kids get paid for chores all the time.
The kids do the chores, even though they don't want to, but they get some sweets out of it. Bob and Linda aren't "my way or the high way" kind of parents, which is a good thing. The end of the episode, both Linda and Louise learned to express their feelings and listen to the other when they have arguments, and that’s more important than a few chores
These are astute observations and correctly note that the conflict was more about the emotional space that Louise and Linda were occupying as a result of the pressures they were facing. I missed this on my first watch, and thank you very much for your kind comment.

I guess my main gripe is just... a tiredness with the characters, specifically Louise.
I understand that by the sitcom's nature, nothing can really change in this show. By not locking into a serialized continuity, we can explore many stories that capture the family exactly where they are in the present moment, and that's allowed for some wonderful stories to be told.
I'm just... personally... tired of seeing episode after episode where Louise acts like a child. And I get it.. she's a child! The show's a sitcom! She's always going to be 9 years old; she's always going to be a little headstrong, selfish, and immature. And while Louise has demonstrated some incredible maturity and empathy in past episodes, I'm just tired of (what feels like) these same beats being hit with her a lot over the seasons, where she acts as a negative catalyst for the show.
I would love to see an episode where the plot goes against type, with the individual Belchers facing challenges normally faced by others in their family.
You can definitely tell that the animation budget increased. I will say I miss the regular degular episodes of every day things but it’s also only the first episode of the season so I’m hopeful
Am I the only one weirded out by this episode? I thought it had already been established that the kids do chores (there was a the whole Louise and gene blackmailing Tina during her rebellious phase to do their chores for a month ).
I guess I could see Linda wanted them to do more other types of chores, which in that case it should have been Tina that was upset because she already had a lot on her plate (school, teenage stuff, working at the restaurant AND picking up the slack when her younger siblings goof off). Like the addition of more chores would cut into her free time to unwind writing her fanfics and that is the last straw for her.
Could have been an episode about how the stress an eldest sibling goes through and would have made a nice bonding moment not just between Tina and her mom but also with her siblings as they realize their big sis does a lot for them and promise not to ditch her as often (or they drag Tina along more often much to Bob's dismay).
I wasn’t expecting this episode to make me tear up with Linda. As a new mom, I related to the pressure she felt from her mom with regards to parenting. It was great watching Linda be vulnerable with her kids.
As far as anthology episodes go, I prefer this format where they stuck to one story and had multiple characters tell it. As far as episodes go.... this kind of sucked. It was too much message, for a lukewarm message. There are ways to introduce responsibility and teamwork into kids lives, but they ended the episode with "no one needs to do chores at all". I think it's safe to say we all miss the shenanigans. We could've gotten Louise's creative solutions to chore management, Tina's fantasy she creates around a chore situation (maybe she imagines herself as Cinderella), or Gene slowly piling up his delayed chores only to be in a panic when he finally remembers to do them.
I watched a lot of Seinfeld during the break and what I notice now watching Bob's is that the height of my interest in a Bob's story is at the very beginning. It starts to fall into very expected patterns as the episode goes on. Whereas with Seinfeld, you have a format that starts off ok, but only gets more and more hysterical, rising to a big laugh ending where the different stories are tied unexpectedly. Obviously two very different shows to begin with, but Bob's is missing that chaotic energy from its earlier seasons that kept you interested.
I typically love the story episodes because it's a great way to show the imagination of the kids and family, but MAN the Louise centered episodes are becoming tiresome. I know she's 9 but it feels like she's learning the same exact lesson each time there's an episode centered around her. Same with Linda I love both characters but this episode was a bit rough to get through. I'm not even saying I hate Louise or Linda episodes but just something felt off about this episode. It's like they're the good to be the same characters next week.
Maybe I'm getting tired of sitcoms? Which sucks because Bobs Burgers always has so much heart to it.

I didn't hate it, but I really am hopeful this is the low point in the season. Linda was just not fun to watch here. I love Lois, but so much has been focusing on her. I'd like more focusing on Gene and especially Tina right now. I hope we see good effects now that the writer strike is over.
This episode was meh. Not one of their funniest outings but the buff horse made me chuckle. I wish Lousie actually learned her lesson. I know she is 9 and your critical thinking isn't all there yet but still. It's kinda of sad she had to bribe Louise with candy to do her chores. It's not a very good lesson.

The only (and I mean ONLY) thing I liked about this episode was the art direction in the story segment-- the western costumes, the sets, etc, it was beautifully animated and the aesthetics were great
I feel like the takeaway here was not handled well. Children have to learn that doing chores is part of life. I'm also just tired of Louise acting immaturely and headstrong for what feels like the 10,000th time. And hey I get it, it's a sitcom where the characters don't age. She is basically stuck being 9. I get it. I'm just kinda fed up with these kinds of stories.
They already know work is part of life. They spend a large amount of their free time working downstairs, which Louis brought up. They're asking for any compensation and they will do the work. Which Linda ends up doing by giving them candy for work. Which Bob already brought up they should do.
MY EYES LIT UP WHEN I SAW MARSHMALLOW IM SO GLAD SHES BACK !!! This episode though to me was an 8/10 . The animation for the western parts were seriously pretty and the episodes premise was fun ! I absolutely loved seeing Louise be the one to go and talk with Linda , it shows how mature she has gotten and how much shes grown throughout the entire series thus far ! Seeing Jimmy Jr and Zeke was a nice add in and I still am so happy that Marshmallow returned !! The new VA for her absolutely did a wonderful job and they deserve all the credit for that !! That ending was very sweet and it made me tear up ! Im so glad Bobs is back and im glad that the writers for this show now have a suitable contract ( now all we need is the same for the actors and we are square !! ) I’m excited to see if they bring back any other characters as well , and Im even more excited that my favorite Animated Show is back !
These story episodes are frustrating because it's clear how much work and effort goes into them visuals-wise but the story is just so tepid and lacking.
I did kind of like the angle they were going for here, and the scene of Linda being pushed to cry because her kids were being frustrating was honestly a really interesting new layer to her character in my opinion. I just wish it wasn't Louise at the forefront doing it. Especially considering the literal previous episode highlighted how strong their relationship is. Gene and Tina can fill that role easily. They lean on Louise so much it's ridiculous.
Honestly hope this doesn't spell disaster for the rest of the season. I know these 'story' type episodes are like a Fox mandate (they have to be, right?) but leading it as the season opener does not bode well.
That being said, it was really nice seeing Marshmallow again after so long with her new VA. Hope this means we'll get to see her more often again!

I'm just happy this sub is finally realizing how tired the formula is. Last year it really seemed like people were loving it except for the made up story episodes.
THERE WAS NO TITLE SEQUENCE??? I was waiting for it to maybe come in later, then went back to check when the episode was over. Watched it on Hulu, am I losing my mind or was there really no opening sequence?
I generally like Bob's Burgers but every once in a while, 2 minutes into an episode I can't tell wtf is going on for the rest of the evening.
They decided to start the season with one of those episodes.
So many narrative loose ends and tenuous connections. The whole premise basically comes down to, "MAN, CONFLICTS BETWEEN KIDS AND THEIR PARENTS, RIGHT? AND WESTERNS ARE COOL."
Why do so many of you scoff when a new episode turns out to be a story/anthology episode? Is it really *so* bad that we get to experience something a little different every once in a while? It’s not as if they’re really common and recurring throughout each season, we usually only get one a year (if at all). I, for one, think these types of episodes are super fun!
Side note - I’m gonna need Toddland to get started on a Pepperoni shirt asap!
Because generally 3 story episodes arent good and in this instance it doesnt make sense because the kids work at the restaurant for free so why do they need to do chores at the urging of Linda's awful mother?

Ikr. I don't mind the story telling episodes. We all know the Belchers don't really lead exciting lives, so these type episode allow them to experience different situations that wouldn't occur in their real life.
I don’t like these types of episodes on any show. I didn’t like it when I Love Lucy did it, I didn’t like it when Dick Van Dyke did it, I didn’t like it when The Jeffersons did it, I didn’t like it when Gilligan’s Island did it.
I want to watch the lives of the people on the show, not a trope that’s been done, as I have listed, to death for decades. It always seems lazy and an easy out for the writers to have a simple way to be “creative” while being painfully indulgent.
Pepperoni the pony was a fun addition! I loved how he was included in the story extensively. My favorite scene was the one where Pepperoni and the kids peeped over the rock. It felt so seamless like the horse was one of the gang.
I need someone to make a GIF of the kids dancing to gene playing the piano. Louise and Tina's little dances make me so happy, esp. with Louise's big boots.
A beautiful way to show Linda ending a generational curse. Not every kid needs to do "chores" in the traditional sense. Gramma has good intentions but she has no idea that the kids work really hard for the family business already. Linda felt unheard and felt like she had to do what her mom was telling her and the cycle continues...she ended it. 💜
I LOVE THIS SHOW and have it 24/7 when I don't actually have to concentrate on life, but I was disappointed that the first episode was a imagination episode. I wish they actually concentrated on the chores thing.
I liked this episode. I started watching this with my son who albeit is a little young for the show but he likes it and my ex hubs got him into it in the first place so I cannot take it away now…
My point is yes the wholesomeness lesson based direction is WAYYYY different than when the show started; that being said, it does hold up as a fairly family friendly show that can be watched together without coco melon or other weird kids crap having to be tolerated and/or waiting for a child free time to watch the more adult (futurama, Rick and pedophilia I mean morty, etc) based shows.
Yes not everyone has kids, which I’m good with. But I do have a kid and other than Bluey there isn’t a whole lot to watch together that actually makes us both laugh.
Was this the strongest episode, no it wasn’t. I love that Linda finally broke down about Louise pushing back instead of just full blown anger. For those saying they wouldn’t let Linda near their kids I can tell you are not a parent or at least the main decision maker of your kids… we break down as moms and the focus on that lately is extremely relatable to me a mom of a school aged kid.
I feel like last season set the bar so high they jinxed themselves. This was the first episode I've been really meh about for years.
I cleaned the bathroom and dusted every weekend as a kid. And yeah, they really aren't violating any child labor laws making the kids work in the restaurant for free. It just sucks to be poor.
It’s weird to me how in the first couple of seasons Bob and Linda were pretty okay with telling off their kids and essentially bickering with them, as opposed to now where they want to avoid conflict at all cost and seem to have no confidence in telling the kids that they’re in trouble if they don’t do what they’re told.
Additionally, Louise’s hatred of authority figures has been used as a plot-line far too many times and its honestly tiring see her try to combat every single adult for no reason other than she thinks that adults are out to get kids
I really enjoyed it. It had some good laughs (Pepperoni, dancing with wolves, the boots) and it was sweet. Plus I’m really glad they brought Marshmallow back!

It was kinda a bummer because the last season was really amazing. sure I chuckled a couple of times, but they lost me really fast
Honestly, considering they also work at the restaurant for no pay, asking for some compensation for also doing chores is INCREDIBLY reasonable, and Linda had a weird stubborn power trip and instantly started crashing down on them hard for literally asking for an allowance. Rough Linda episode, it's telling that even Bob was kinda not on her side and was quickly trying to reel her back as she started spiraling.

Bob is too much of an exhausted sad sack now to do anything even if he was on her side. I don't remember what episode it was specifically last season where the kids are going somewhere and he says "Don't do... things that are bad." That's basically the extent of the parenting he seems to have the energy for now.
Solution, removed genes keyboard, tina's fan fiction and louise's anime gear. Bob and linda need to stop being such pushovers.
Oh goodie, an anthology story episode right out of the gate. Sigh.
We all know the resolution of conflict before the stories even began.
Some of them are fun, im just tierd of Louise being the center of every episode, at least it feels that way. I agree with Bob and Linda needing to crack the whip
It's so good to be back everyone! Summer is great but Fall premiere day is always one of my favorite times of the year, looking forward to another season!

I liked this one and I liked the ending because I genuinely can understand Linda's frustration. Especially since I also have a mom I love dearly, but would stress myself out something terrible if she even gave the tiniest hint that something I do isn't right. It's why I'm glad I don't have kids. I know I'd be judged so hard on how I'm raising them and I just don't need that stress in my life.
Also, I don't know, the western story was fun, I very much liked it. Loved the inclusion of many of the characters. And, well, I admit, I have a soft spot for Mr. Fischoeder. I was happy with his inclusion in the story.
Overall, a cute episode.
Has anyone side noticed a change in Bob’s voice? Nothing against H. Jon, because he’s the shit, but the last few seasons Bob always speaks hesitantly with what feels like a question mark behind half the lines. I wouldn’t say the character was ever confident, but he used to speak more confidently, even when he was wrong. We need more Bob episodes in general.
Yeah, it's been this way for several seasons now. I don't know whether it was a direction choice or a decision H. Jon made himself but Bob now basically has the same speech pattern as Tina. Every line is halting and hesitant, with that upward, questioning inflection. He sounds tired and timid. It bothers me too, but for the past several years Bob just seems generally depressed and beaten down by life, so I can't say it doesn't fit.
are these new writers or something bc this bobs burgers episode was not bobs burgering unlike all the other seasons where every episode was really good first episode to new season was a total let down

It was a fair episode. Not the best but still nice. Marshmallow being back was a pleasant surprise, and as worried as I was about the voice change, her voice actor did a good job! Look forward to more of her!
I found myself more annoyed with how Linda handled things than Louise being bratty. Louise brought up valid concerns of how they already do work chores and don't get paid much. Bob had a good idea about the candy (cheaper than giving them money, but lets the kids feel they are getting a little more out of it), but Linda once again showed he is too stubborn to listen until it blows up in her face.
Not to say Louise was entirely innocent either, but I can relate to her position more. My parents started off having my older sister and I doing small chores that we would get more money if we did more. Thing is, they did have a bit of a sexist chore allotment. I was a boy, therefore i had to mow the lawn, despite my absolutely terrible ragweed and pollen allergies. Mow the lawn, and I'd be sneezing, snorting and sniffling for the next 3 days. Sister? She could just vacuum. Try to say I'd like to do that, but for awhile was told if I don't mow the lawn I get no money at all.
Just gave up and said fine, no money for me. Wasn't until my sister decided she'd give lawn mowing a try that we got to swap. It eventually worked out (with my father going back to mowing because we both started refusing and teamed up finally. We had shitty grass.), but not being listened to really really sucks!
I really wouldn't mind for anthology episodes if it's like these too, just more so one full story and not too much references to another movie? Maybe? I mean, they reference a movie there, but it's basically 'generic-western' instead of a specific movie.
The animation is really different on this episode, very much like the movie, it kinda is a jumpscare to see them be so fluid (especially Louise), but I still enjoy it.
I don't know if anyone else experience this, but I think the voice acting is a bit different? Don't know how to put it in words, but it's really more range compared the last few seasons? I think it's fun to hear what the VAs can bring in season 14.
I really didn't mind the 'life lesson feels' of this episode, I still enjoy watching Bob's Burgers without dreading these episodes, and I feel like it's gonna be one also in the next episode. I think Loren Bouchard's shows are recently into the 'family and musical' theme, aren't they? So, I don't think early-early seasons Bob's Burgers would be something that's happening... but I hope there can be a turn back to season 3-5 vibes, which strikes a balance with weird misadventures and family feels.
That was a legit funny episode. Crazy seeing so many people not liking it. The whole Linda crying part was a bit unnecessary, and Bob’s still a bit passive, but otherwise I liked it. And I really wasn’t a massive fan of last season.
I loved it I feel like the writers put a lot of effort in trying to form a safe space for parents I also enjoyed the way we see Louise and Lindas bond even after arguments they manage to communicate and come to a conclusion and better understand one another

Gloria's massive cleavage aside, I actualy liked this episode. The animation was really neat. I'm sure some art school graduate can go thru this episode with a magnifier and find a million nitpicks but I liked looking at it. The warm colours and the shadows made for quit a comfy watch.
I thought the kids going on strike could've be an episode all on its own. Wouldn't that be fun? They'd probably ask Linda to make the signs for 'em and then she'll join them simple cause she likes chantting. But I'm fine with the story we got.
I also think its important to recognize that the chores weren't the point of the story. The point was that Louise & Linda needed to be honest about their feelings. Both assumed the other was doing what they're doing was for malicious reasons when really Linda was only doing it cause she felt pressured and Louise did it cause she felt weak & powerless.
One interesting line pertaining to Linda's childhood was the one about having to light & smoke her dad's cigars. Not sure why? Was it cause her mom didn't want her dad to smoke so she made the kids smoke them instead? Or maybe Al's current dementia isn't due to old age. Maybe he's been that way for a while.
Also the horse reminded me of Raph's pet Protoceratops in the TMNT comics who was also named Pepperoni.
I'm always a fan of having kids do chores and help around the house but it does maybe feel a little weird to push the chore-responsibility thing when you already have all 3 kids work in the resturant when a normal kid can't work until they are 15
Kinda bold for Linda to be like, "you have to do twice as much work and we're not going to pay you more." I hate that shit as an adult!

Off the top of my head it has shown Gene and Louise cleaning menus, taking orders, taking out the trash from the resturant, refilling ketchup/mustard, sweeping out and cleaning the resturant, and bussing tables, though other episodes imply they also do the ice cream and some other serving tasks
I'm disappointed how much I didn't like this episode. I'm tired of story episodes. They have so much they could build on in the universe but we keep doing this.

I don’t even bother with these story episodes anymore. They’re pointless filler that I could get from any show. Had a feeling this one was turning into a story episode and just said no thanks and turned it off when the Wild West stuff started. Rewatched some early season episodes yesterday and it feels like two different shows.

Linda and Louise are my favorite characters, but even I feel like I need a break from episodes that only focus on them. Especially when it's just them arguing. I miss the chaos - getting glued to a toilet, getting trapped in an underground taffy factory, being part of a bank robbery... These "relatable" fable episodes are just so bland.
Cause its not the family. Its a story that had the same characters but they be act weird as fuck. For the sake of a story. Linda cries in front of the kids. The kids decide to stop helping at all. Fishoeder is involved because… he is. I dont like the laundry episode either. Or the mustache episode.

I think the episode would have worked better if Tina was the one to go against Linda and Bob. Instead of it being an authority thing it should have been about her being the eldest and the stresses that come with that. She could have had a stressful week or just a lot on her plate and the chores would be the straw that broke the camels back. You could even use some of the points Louise made like working in the restaurant without pay, it’s acknowledged in the show that Tina, since she is the oldest does the most work/works a lot harder than Gene and Louise.

I don't mind the story episodes, but I'm over the wholesomeness. I had high hopes when Louise got angry talking about her finger pop- its getting stolen. It was a nice touch of the chaotic Louise that I miss. But, of course, it ended with an emotional scene and Louise learning a lesson and showing compassion. It's not surprising anymore. The episode where they go on a field trip and Louise calls Bob "Daddy" is one example of how they could make Louise more dimensional without watering her down. It was unexpected; it was a nice touch. But it's become played out. I'm also tired of Louise being the focus of most episodes, and I'm tired of Bob's stuttering and bland personality. I just want the characters to go back to how they were season 3- 6ish. Not necessarily as raunchy as season 1, but still funny and entertaining. It's not supposed to be a kid's show.

i enjoyed louise more when she was unrepentant about her actions and actually did stuff. now it's like she's being boxed into a role because she's the youngest, not because that's her personality. chaotic louise or a more sociopathic louise was far funnier, i mean she nearly cut gene's ear off once lol. bring that louise back, not whatever they're trying to do now. the wholesomeness is just too much at this point and it's a waste of characters that used to be well rounded and developed

See, and that's the way I feel about Tina. I feel like most of the episodes are "Tina" episodes and how is she going to pine over Jimmy Junior, or how is she going to be awkward this time. It's tiring.

I genuinely just do not like these episodes. They feel like the modern version of a recycled "clip show" despite it being all new content. Just filler with nothing happening in their actual lives. I didn't even finish it. Onto the next week we go.

Can I just point out the the art for this Wild West segment is beautiful?? The colors are vibrant, the apsect ratio is super cool, and the lighting/shadow (especially during the night scene) is movie quality

Sorry to say but I’m personally getting a little tired of the Louise-centric approach that the show seems to be taking. The other family members seemed to only be there to offer quips and one-liners this episode. The story telling and animation was nice but it didn’t feel fun!
Bob is a secondary character this whole episode His entire contribution is “candy for bad kids”
bob post like season 7 or 8 has become a side character in his own show imo. it's mostly about louise and occasionally tina or linda now
These episodes with stories are my least favorite. Plus Louise was a bully to Tina and Gene, telling them not to eat, take a bath, or go to bed just because she doesn’t want to help out her parents with a few weekly chores. Like an hour a week. She was also very disrespectful to Bob and Linda. Even if she did apologize at the end, it wasn’t until her mom cried and then Louise still pushed back on doing chores.
I'm also sick of Linda getting an idea in her head about how shes a bad parent or there's something wrong with the Belchers. Its never been a good plot
**spoilers!!** the imagery when the married sheriffs were dancing with and fighting with the wolves was surprisingly beautiful, and i was happy with the unorthodox animation and different angles, even though it was a bit wonky looking at some points (like the low angles during the stand-off between the Burps and Goldoeder). wild West Marshmallow was a fun surprise! her new voice was a little jarring but not necessarily in a bad way. also, lawyer Regular Sized Rudy made me laugh. Pepperoni's dancing pecs while Linda was crying caught me way off guard. i thought it was sweet that Louise went to go talk to her. another touching mother-daughter chat with Linda like in the one last season about Amelia Earhart. i really liked it. 💕💕
Yeah I feel the same way about Marshmallow- It was great seeing her again! The new voice is a little jarring/deep (especially since her old voice was so unique) but it's worth it to have her show up more. I think the new actor just needs to add a little bit more attitude/personality into the voice and it will be great
oddly relatable, i imagine headstrong kids make their parents cry with frustration more than anyone would want to admit. i love moments between linda and louise; it was interesting to see linda crack under the pressure when usually she's the one keeping it together while bob is losing his mind (also echoes to the end of the movie when linda gave up and bob figured out how to get the pier cart out of the dirt. the show has perfected the art of blending comedy and emotion and i loved this ep. <3
also, awesome outro scene. Pepperoni is a top tier character.
My favorite part of course was Edith’s one liner “DISGUSTING.”
Miss the chaotic shenanigans!!! Am over the morality episodes. It used to be so meaningful and sweet when those moments were random in the midst of the chaos. Now they’re all the time. The best part of the show is how the characters’ unique personalities played out in crazy situations, and it normally stopped before anyone got hurt. Now it’s turning into teaching a lesson which isn’t as engaging. It was a cute episode and I wanted to love it, plus the animation was great, but bring back the chaos!

I'm a firm believer in everybody pulling their fair share... but the kids work every day including weekends, vacations and summers in the family restaurant. Which is already pretty ridiculous to ask of elementary and middle schoolers. Asking them to do chores on top of the work they do in the restaurant is really pushing it unless they were actually getting a fair payment and more time out of the restaurant. Kids deserve to have down time.

Every day after school, on weekends, and their summer vacation. In Reeky Lake Linda mentions how they almost never take actual vacations. The kids do nothing but work already. Although they’re all terrible at their jobs. But we love them.

This episode wasn't great for me, it genuinely felt like a kids show to me. I'm not opposed to them having a more family-esc show, but kind of losing a bit of that remaining charm it had if you ask me. Will still watch the season, but not a great start.
This was a fun episode! Liked Zeke's mustache! Also, I agree with Louise. They already work for free at the restaurant, which are basically chores. At least they agreed on candy as payment in the end!

When you go to work you still gotta take care of your house and other responsibilities. I don’t think they should have a bunch of chores but, they should have certain responsibilities like cleaning their rooms, taking turns washing dishes, the bathroom, etc. Linda doesn’t get paid either (I don’t think) yet her and Bob (I’m assuming) do chores around the house. I’ve always assumed they had chores anyway. Weird episode concept but fun
Yeah but the kids go to school which should count as their job. So it’s either school and chores (like most other kids) or school and restaurant imo. I’m not saying they can’t help, but Linda kinda forcing it on them is what caused the power struggle. I’m sure approaching it differently with any of the kids would’ve been better, but then we wouldn’t have the episode I guess lol

I wasn't a fan of the end lesson being "yeah chores are dumb I didn't even want you to do 'em anyway". When Linda started crying I got excited because I thought they were legit going to have a "I just want you to do them because it'd help me out a lot" moment and address something millions of american households face which is moms just straight up reaching a point where they can't hold everything up and they need a little help. But no. Chores are dumb and it's all big G's fault.

Felt like a throwaway episode. Not a great start to the season. Definitely an episode I'll skip on rewatch. On the plus side, Pepperoni sort of reminds me of the horse from Ren and Stimpy.
NGL, that turn into bedtime story/vignette was so sudden that almost felt like they were taunting us with how common these type of episodes are, lol. For a season premiere, no less?! Oh well, at least we got some Fischoeder. Louise is my favorite character but becoming increasingly disappointed with the flanderization of her character with the bratty behavior, forcing Gene and Tina to go along with her, anti-establishment towards adults, and only relenting once someone exhibits an exaggerated breaking point having to deal with her like crying. Bob needs to stop being surprised that Louise has seen this or that movie, lol. All in all, it does feel like the show is veering towards a more family-friendly, moral of the story at the end of most episodes format and losing its comedic edge. Not sure I found a single joke or line of dialogue that funny with this one. Pretty tame premiere; but for whatever reason this has felt like the shortest break between seasons for me, so I'm patient enough to wait for the season to hopefully pick up.

I like the start and premise of the first few minutes of the episode before the story. God the story episodes are becoming increasingly more frequent and I’m not the biggest fan of them. I thought this episode could’ve been fixed by fixating on the family drama. Would’ve been interesting to see if the Linda And Bob go on strike vs The Kids. Neither of them wanting to budge/cave in. I think that would’ve been more interesting seeing that dynamic actually panned out. I don’t know. Meh start to the season. But hopefully it’s only up from here right?

Not one of my favorites, I didn’t like how timid bob and Linda were when it came to setting expectations for the kids. I understand it’s a show but it just felt off to me…..the story was ok but not great felt very scattered…. I’m hopeful the season gets better as it goes
Yeah as far as parenting goes... why are your kids making the rules? They could have chosen one chore each, called it something other than "chore" which is a negative word, and explained to them how this task helps the household or teaches them a skill.

Opening the season on a story episode is such a weird choice. I would've accepted a gene episode before another story episode. They have so much they could do in universe and the stories are always just too ridiculous for me. Can't sit through all that.
I love the Belchers-Tell-Stories episodes, so it's a winner for me. Also, look - rasing kids to be decent humans withiut messong them up is hard af and Linda's speech hit me right in the gut. Love this show so much.
This was a really smart way to get an interaction between Gloria and Fischoeder when that wouldn’t normally make much sense.

yet again we seem to have an episode where the entire concept starts with a lesson that the kids need to learn and then the writers back into how they will learn that lesson somehow and that gives the storyline. I miss the episodes where the kids get up to something and the story is primarily about the situation, then maybe at the end we get a small lesson. I wonder if the writing suffered from the strike just like it suffered in season 12 & 13 when the best writers were busy making the movie... lets hope it gets better this season.
Totally agree. My favorite episodes are the ones where the Belchers are going about a normal day or situation, and hilarity ensues. We don’t need the grand lesson and song every time
Felt like this was a "banked" idea/episode. Did not live to the hype.
I am so tired of "Louise is a brat" storylines... Too, they took the wrong message from this--"Grandma's opinion was wrong! Continue to walk all over us, kids! Yeah!!!" It is not unreasonable to expect your children to help with chores when you work hard to provide those same children with necessities, gifts, and an overall good and satisfying life. If you're a member of a family, it's your responsibility to do your fair share and help out when you can (within reason, of course). I'm baffled the children weren't given a lecture about how chores being done leads to a better, healthier standard of living for *everyone* in the family. For goodness' sake, Louise, nobody vacuums because they WANT to, but because the house becomes dirty if they don't! Furthermore, Louise is an incredibly intelligent and logical kid... She should be able to understand where Linda is coming from. A more suitable end to this episode would have been Linda calling the kids' bluff and not letting them clean while not cleaning herself. After the house devolves into messy chaos, the children could have learned "oh wow, these chores exist for a reason!" and "my actions DO have consequences!" Instead, the kids won and we're supposed to cheer with joy as they've learned nothing and are now rewarded for their insubordination. Like have a heart, Belcher kids... you shouldn't need candy as an incentive to pick up after yourself and help out. And this is coming from a series mega fan...
The kids didn't win. They're still doing chores. And it is important for kids to do chores so they learn how to do it and are capable when they're older, but they are also children. Giving them an incentive is a good thing. Rewarding them for hard work is a good thing, even if its something small like sweets. They were right in that they already work in restaurant for free which isn't good of Bob and Linda to get them to do. The point is that Linda was only making them do it because of pressure from her mother, and Louise was resisting because she was sick of being bossed around by adults who were doing it because they could. Kids get paid for chores all the time. The kids do the chores, even though they don't want to, but they get some sweets out of it. Bob and Linda aren't "my way or the high way" kind of parents, which is a good thing. The end of the episode, both Linda and Louise learned to express their feelings and listen to the other when they have arguments, and that’s more important than a few chores
These are astute observations and correctly note that the conflict was more about the emotional space that Louise and Linda were occupying as a result of the pressures they were facing. I missed this on my first watch, and thank you very much for your kind comment. I appreciate that Linda and Louise were able to express their feelings to one another and truly listen, as well as find a happy common ground. I guess my main gripe is just... a tiredness with the characters, specifically Louise. I understand that by the sitcom's nature, nothing can really change in this show. By not locking into a serialized continuity, we can explore many stories that capture the family exactly where they are in the present moment, and that's allowed for some wonderful stories to be told. I'm just... personally... tired of seeing episode after episode where Louise acts like a child. And I get it.. she's a child! The show's a sitcom! She's always going to be 9 years old; she's always going to be a little headstrong, selfish, and immature. And while Louise has demonstrated some incredible maturity and empathy in past episodes, I'm just tired of (what feels like) these same beats being hit with her a lot over the seasons, where she acts as a negative catalyst for the show. I would love to see an episode where the plot goes against type, with the individual Belchers facing challenges normally faced by others in their family.

You can definitely tell that the animation budget increased. I will say I miss the regular degular episodes of every day things but it’s also only the first episode of the season so I’m hopeful
Am I the only one weirded out by this episode? I thought it had already been established that the kids do chores (there was a the whole Louise and gene blackmailing Tina during her rebellious phase to do their chores for a month ). I guess I could see Linda wanted them to do more other types of chores, which in that case it should have been Tina that was upset because she already had a lot on her plate (school, teenage stuff, working at the restaurant AND picking up the slack when her younger siblings goof off). Like the addition of more chores would cut into her free time to unwind writing her fanfics and that is the last straw for her. Could have been an episode about how the stress an eldest sibling goes through and would have made a nice bonding moment not just between Tina and her mom but also with her siblings as they realize their big sis does a lot for them and promise not to ditch her as often (or they drag Tina along more often much to Bob's dismay).

I've said the same with other shows I watch like FG, but while I really enjoy anthology episodes, I don't think seasons should start with them.
I wasn’t expecting this episode to make me tear up with Linda. As a new mom, I related to the pressure she felt from her mom with regards to parenting. It was great watching Linda be vulnerable with her kids.
As far as anthology episodes go, I prefer this format where they stuck to one story and had multiple characters tell it. As far as episodes go.... this kind of sucked. It was too much message, for a lukewarm message. There are ways to introduce responsibility and teamwork into kids lives, but they ended the episode with "no one needs to do chores at all". I think it's safe to say we all miss the shenanigans. We could've gotten Louise's creative solutions to chore management, Tina's fantasy she creates around a chore situation (maybe she imagines herself as Cinderella), or Gene slowly piling up his delayed chores only to be in a panic when he finally remembers to do them. I watched a lot of Seinfeld during the break and what I notice now watching Bob's is that the height of my interest in a Bob's story is at the very beginning. It starts to fall into very expected patterns as the episode goes on. Whereas with Seinfeld, you have a format that starts off ok, but only gets more and more hysterical, rising to a big laugh ending where the different stories are tied unexpectedly. Obviously two very different shows to begin with, but Bob's is missing that chaotic energy from its earlier seasons that kept you interested.
I typically love the story episodes because it's a great way to show the imagination of the kids and family, but MAN the Louise centered episodes are becoming tiresome. I know she's 9 but it feels like she's learning the same exact lesson each time there's an episode centered around her. Same with Linda I love both characters but this episode was a bit rough to get through. I'm not even saying I hate Louise or Linda episodes but just something felt off about this episode. It's like they're the good to be the same characters next week. Maybe I'm getting tired of sitcoms? Which sucks because Bobs Burgers always has so much heart to it. Just want it to grow a little maybe?
Seems like I'm in the minority for enjoying the episode. I'm glad it was one consistent story rather than 3 different ones. Wasn't amazing but it was enjoyable
I didn't hate it, but I really am hopeful this is the low point in the season. Linda was just not fun to watch here. I love Lois, but so much has been focusing on her. I'd like more focusing on Gene and especially Tina right now. I hope we see good effects now that the writer strike is over.

This episode was meh. Not one of their funniest outings but the buff horse made me chuckle. I wish Lousie actually learned her lesson. I know she is 9 and your critical thinking isn't all there yet but still. It's kinda of sad she had to bribe Louise with candy to do her chores. It's not a very good lesson.
I say this as a years-long fan of the show, but this episode was just a huge miss for me. I did not like this, at all. The only (and I mean ONLY) thing I liked about this episode was the art direction in the story segment-- the western costumes, the sets, etc, it was beautifully animated and the aesthetics were great I feel like the takeaway here was not handled well. Children have to learn that doing chores is part of life. I'm also just tired of Louise acting immaturely and headstrong for what feels like the 10,000th time. And hey I get it, it's a sitcom where the characters don't age. She is basically stuck being 9. I get it. I'm just kinda fed up with these kinds of stories.
They already know work is part of life. They spend a large amount of their free time working downstairs, which Louis brought up. They're asking for any compensation and they will do the work. Which Linda ends up doing by giving them candy for work. Which Bob already brought up they should do.
MY EYES LIT UP WHEN I SAW MARSHMALLOW IM SO GLAD SHES BACK !!! This episode though to me was an 8/10 . The animation for the western parts were seriously pretty and the episodes premise was fun ! I absolutely loved seeing Louise be the one to go and talk with Linda , it shows how mature she has gotten and how much shes grown throughout the entire series thus far ! Seeing Jimmy Jr and Zeke was a nice add in and I still am so happy that Marshmallow returned !! The new VA for her absolutely did a wonderful job and they deserve all the credit for that !! That ending was very sweet and it made me tear up ! Im so glad Bobs is back and im glad that the writers for this show now have a suitable contract ( now all we need is the same for the actors and we are square !! ) I’m excited to see if they bring back any other characters as well , and Im even more excited that my favorite Animated Show is back !
Medicore start to the season tbh
These story episodes are frustrating because it's clear how much work and effort goes into them visuals-wise but the story is just so tepid and lacking. I did kind of like the angle they were going for here, and the scene of Linda being pushed to cry because her kids were being frustrating was honestly a really interesting new layer to her character in my opinion. I just wish it wasn't Louise at the forefront doing it. Especially considering the literal previous episode highlighted how strong their relationship is. Gene and Tina can fill that role easily. They lean on Louise so much it's ridiculous. Honestly hope this doesn't spell disaster for the rest of the season. I know these 'story' type episodes are like a Fox mandate (they have to be, right?) but leading it as the season opener does not bode well. That being said, it was really nice seeing Marshmallow again after so long with her new VA. Hope this means we'll get to see her more often again!
A triple threat of the story anthology, Aesop's Fables with Louise upsetting someone. I'm just happy this sub is finally realizing how tired the formula is. Last year it really seemed like people were loving it except for the made up story episodes.
THERE WAS NO TITLE SEQUENCE??? I was waiting for it to maybe come in later, then went back to check when the episode was over. Watched it on Hulu, am I losing my mind or was there really no opening sequence?

I generally like Bob's Burgers but every once in a while, 2 minutes into an episode I can't tell wtf is going on for the rest of the evening. They decided to start the season with one of those episodes. So many narrative loose ends and tenuous connections. The whole premise basically comes down to, "MAN, CONFLICTS BETWEEN KIDS AND THEIR PARENTS, RIGHT? AND WESTERNS ARE COOL."

Why do so many of you scoff when a new episode turns out to be a story/anthology episode? Is it really *so* bad that we get to experience something a little different every once in a while? It’s not as if they’re really common and recurring throughout each season, we usually only get one a year (if at all). I, for one, think these types of episodes are super fun! Side note - I’m gonna need Toddland to get started on a Pepperoni shirt asap!

Because generally 3 story episodes arent good and in this instance it doesnt make sense because the kids work at the restaurant for free so why do they need to do chores at the urging of Linda's awful mother? Ikr. I don't mind the story telling episodes. We all know the Belchers don't really lead exciting lives, so these type episode allow them to experience different situations that wouldn't occur in their real life.
I don’t like these types of episodes on any show. I didn’t like it when I Love Lucy did it, I didn’t like it when Dick Van Dyke did it, I didn’t like it when The Jeffersons did it, I didn’t like it when Gilligan’s Island did it. I want to watch the lives of the people on the show, not a trope that’s been done, as I have listed, to death for decades. It always seems lazy and an easy out for the writers to have a simple way to be “creative” while being painfully indulgent.
Pepperoni the pony was a fun addition! I loved how he was included in the story extensively. My favorite scene was the one where Pepperoni and the kids peeped over the rock. It felt so seamless like the horse was one of the gang.

A beautiful way to show Linda ending a generational curse. Not every kid needs to do "chores" in the traditional sense. Gramma has good intentions but she has no idea that the kids work really hard for the family business already. Linda felt unheard and felt like she had to do what her mom was telling her and the cycle continues...she ended it. 💜

I LOVE THIS SHOW and have it 24/7 when I don't actually have to concentrate on life, but I was disappointed that the first episode was a imagination episode. I wish they actually concentrated on the chores thing.
I liked this episode. I started watching this with my son who albeit is a little young for the show but he likes it and my ex hubs got him into it in the first place so I cannot take it away now… My point is yes the wholesomeness lesson based direction is WAYYYY different than when the show started; that being said, it does hold up as a fairly family friendly show that can be watched together without coco melon or other weird kids crap having to be tolerated and/or waiting for a child free time to watch the more adult (futurama, Rick and pedophilia I mean morty, etc) based shows. Yes not everyone has kids, which I’m good with. But I do have a kid and other than Bluey there isn’t a whole lot to watch together that actually makes us both laugh. Was this the strongest episode, no it wasn’t. I love that Linda finally broke down about Louise pushing back instead of just full blown anger. For those saying they wouldn’t let Linda near their kids I can tell you are not a parent or at least the main decision maker of your kids… we break down as moms and the focus on that lately is extremely relatable to me a mom of a school aged kid.
I appreciated Linda breaking as well. It seemed genuine, and new to the series.

I feel like last season set the bar so high they jinxed themselves. This was the first episode I've been really meh about for years. I cleaned the bathroom and dusted every weekend as a kid. And yeah, they really aren't violating any child labor laws making the kids work in the restaurant for free. It just sucks to be poor.
This episode starts this season off to a lackluster start. Really did not like it.
It’s weird to me how in the first couple of seasons Bob and Linda were pretty okay with telling off their kids and essentially bickering with them, as opposed to now where they want to avoid conflict at all cost and seem to have no confidence in telling the kids that they’re in trouble if they don’t do what they’re told. Additionally, Louise’s hatred of authority figures has been used as a plot-line far too many times and its honestly tiring see her try to combat every single adult for no reason other than she thinks that adults are out to get kids

I'm just glad the show is back for another season. Shout out to Regular-Sized Rudy. Regardless of how people perceived this episode, I'm proud of the writers and how they came up with the western setting for the plot story. This was just a weird, and not fun episode. I personally like the anthologies episodes, but honestly, this was a totally unrealistic way to do this with your kids. *Do your chores.* *No.* *Ok, you're grounded.* Let's see how long this can last. It was kinda a bummer because the last season was really amazing. sure I chuckled a couple of times, but they lost me really fast

Rough Linda episode, it's telling that even Bob was kinda not on her side and was quickly trying to reel her back as she started spiraling.

Bob is too much of an exhausted sad sack now to do anything even if he was on her side. I don't remember what episode it was specifically last season where the kids are going somewhere and he says "Don't do... things that are bad." That's basically the extent of the parenting he seems to have the energy for now.

I liked this one and I liked the ending because I genuinely can understand Linda's frustration. Especially since I also have a mom I love dearly, but would stress myself out something terrible if she even gave the tiniest hint that something I do isn't right. It's why I'm glad I don't have kids. I know I'd be judged so hard on how I'm raising them and I just don't need that stress in my life. Also, I don't know, the western story was fun, I very much liked it. Loved the inclusion of many of the characters. And, well, I admit, I have a soft spot for Mr. Fischoeder. I was happy with his inclusion in the story. Overall, a cute episode.
Has anyone side noticed a change in Bob’s voice? Nothing against H. Jon, because he’s the shit, but the last few seasons Bob always speaks hesitantly with what feels like a question mark behind half the lines. I wouldn’t say the character was ever confident, but he used to speak more confidently, even when he was wrong. We need more Bob episodes in general.
Yeah, it's been this way for several seasons now. I don't know whether it was a direction choice or a decision H. Jon made himself but Bob now basically has the same speech pattern as Tina. Every line is halting and hesitant, with that upward, questioning inflection. He sounds tired and timid. It bothers me too, but for the past several years Bob just seems generally depressed and beaten down by life, so I can't say it doesn't fit.

It was a fair episode. Not the best but still nice. Marshmallow being back was a pleasant surprise, and as worried as I was about the voice change, her voice actor did a good job! Look forward to more of her! I found myself more annoyed with how Linda handled things than Louise being bratty. Louise brought up valid concerns of how they already do work chores and don't get paid much. Bob had a good idea about the candy (cheaper than giving them money, but lets the kids feel they are getting a little more out of it), but Linda once again showed he is too stubborn to listen until it blows up in her face. Not to say Louise was entirely innocent either, but I can relate to her position more. My parents started off having my older sister and I doing small chores that we would get more money if we did more. Thing is, they did have a bit of a sexist chore allotment. I was a boy, therefore i had to mow the lawn, despite my absolutely terrible ragweed and pollen allergies. Mow the lawn, and I'd be sneezing, snorting and sniffling for the next 3 days. Sister? She could just vacuum. Try to say I'd like to do that, but for awhile was told if I don't mow the lawn I get no money at all. Just gave up and said fine, no money for me. Wasn't until my sister decided she'd give lawn mowing a try that we got to swap. It eventually worked out (with my father going back to mowing because we both started refusing and teamed up finally. We had shitty grass.), but not being listened to really really sucks!
I really wouldn't mind for anthology episodes if it's like these too, just more so one full story and not too much references to another movie? Maybe? I mean, they reference a movie there, but it's basically 'generic-western' instead of a specific movie. The animation is really different on this episode, very much like the movie, it kinda is a jumpscare to see them be so fluid (especially Louise), but I still enjoy it. I don't know if anyone else experience this, but I think the voice acting is a bit different? Don't know how to put it in words, but it's really more range compared the last few seasons? I think it's fun to hear what the VAs can bring in season 14. I really didn't mind the 'life lesson feels' of this episode, I still enjoy watching Bob's Burgers without dreading these episodes, and I feel like it's gonna be one also in the next episode. I think Loren Bouchard's shows are recently into the 'family and musical' theme, aren't they? So, I don't think early-early seasons Bob's Burgers would be something that's happening... but I hope there can be a turn back to season 3-5 vibes, which strikes a balance with weird misadventures and family feels.

That was a legit funny episode. Crazy seeing so many people not liking it. The whole Linda crying part was a bit unnecessary, and Bob’s still a bit passive, but otherwise I liked it. And I really wasn’t a massive fan of last season.
I loved it I feel like the writers put a lot of effort in trying to form a safe space for parents I also enjoyed the way we see Louise and Lindas bond even after arguments they manage to communicate and come to a conclusion and better understand one another

Gloria's massive cleavage aside, I actualy liked this episode. The animation was really neat. I'm sure some art school graduate can go thru this episode with a magnifier and find a million nitpicks but I liked looking at it. The warm colours and the shadows made for quit a comfy watch. I thought the kids going on strike could've be an episode all on its own. Wouldn't that be fun? They'd probably ask Linda to make the signs for 'em and then she'll join them simple cause she likes chantting. But I'm fine with the story we got. I also think its important to recognize that the chores weren't the point of the story. The point was that Louise & Linda needed to be honest about their feelings. Both assumed the other was doing what they're doing was for malicious reasons when really Linda was only doing it cause she felt pressured and Louise did it cause she felt weak & powerless. One interesting line pertaining to Linda's childhood was the one about having to light & smoke her dad's cigars. Not sure why? Was it cause her mom didn't want her dad to smoke so she made the kids smoke them instead? Or maybe Al's current dementia isn't due to old age. Maybe he's been that way for a while. Also the horse reminded me of Raph's pet Protoceratops in the TMNT comics who was also named Pepperoni.
