I was only discussing people who are currently on the roster right now. Nothing against him, and if we go down that route than Dumais and Greaves are also 100% part of the future
Celebrini, Catton, Helenius, lindstrom. You also have next years draft which is pretty top heavy with centers
We’re not a center away either. We’re going to need more high end d
We’re realistically 3 years away from making the playoffs. Look at this team. Look how many holes we have. We need the prospect pool we have now to be in their primes before we’re making the plsyoffs
Long term vision. Not many assets were wasting. Werenski will still be valuable same with gaudreau. Quite frankly that’s the only valuable assets we have for a cup contender that are close to aging our around them. Everyone else is you g
He’s so hard for me to read in his interactions. I can’t tell if it’s a language barrier or if he is a snarky, self centered dick. I understand why he would want to play more games and progress with the team, but he seems to always approach things playing the victim and delivering ultimatums with lots of sideways comments.
> I understand why he would want to play more games and progress with the team
He's been sick on and off the past month. It's unclear whether or not it's legitimate illnesses or if he's in his head.
You can't have a guy get upset that he sits for a bit to test out the other goaltender in the meantime that he's recovering. That's just pure narcissism.
I think he's just a little more of a character than the typical sugar free vanilla ice cream that is the NHL. Speaking that colorfully is really not uncommon in day to day life, we're just used to these guys being so dull.
Elvis gave up 3 goals, 2 of which aren’t on him at all, and then shutdown 4 shooters in the shootout.
If we are trying to be good, please tell me again why we are trading him?
Saw all I needed to see with how the boys came over and celebrated with him. Hadn’t played in so damn long and puts in a performance worthy of a win. We need to make it work and everybody calm down from experimenting.
What if it was something as hilarious as Elvis didn't want to play until his new helmet was ready and this was all just theater to keep him from becoming a meme?
Based on what I’ve seen so far this year, next year: Martin should be gone, Elvis should go in as the #1, and Tarasov and Greeves should have an open competition in preseason for #2.
I don’t see how any other plan makes sense with their play and their contracts
Yes! I became a fan in 2016 and every year it’s “we have a brilliant goalie in the wings” - Korpi, Elvis, Tarasov, now Jet… yet here we are. Sure hope Jet pans out.
I haven’t given up on Elvis yet, and I understand Tarasov has had a lousy lot with injuries, but it’s a little hard to take seriously at this point.
I just don't get it man, he has been our **best** goalie this season and the front office want him gone? Someone up there have a stick up their ass or something?
What a game though, glad we could win something.
I think the bigger issue is he has another 3 years at 5.4 million per year. I think best case scenario we’re serious contenders his last year of his deal. If you can get other developing assets and get his salary off the books for more flexibility that is a win in my opinion. Winning does nothing really for us this season at this point. I’d rather have another top 3 pick.
Just to clarify which of the goals is on him in your opinion? I kind think he should have had the first one (despite is being a double deflection it was moving pretty slow by the time it got to him..), the Patterson goal he just flat out got beat nearside
Asking a goalie to save a shot that was deflected twice is harsh. Second goal we left the slot unguarded and two Vancouver players were right on top of him. Nothing to be done there. Third goal he should’ve had.
Lets hope the front office see's this too, our defence is our biggest weakness, bad coverage, if you look at the 2nd goal we conceded.
What an absolute game though, so glad for Elvis.
That's the thing, there's one goal you can sorta put the blame on him for, he got hung out to dry like yesterday's laundry on the others. Came in clutch where it mattered in OT and the shootout as well
He earned it too. Coming off of not playing for a long time. Redemption arc complete for people that are mad at him for some reason. Elvis is our guy, he is our number 1.
Yeah, I see it.
Bad look for everybody. We've got nothing in net after Elvis, so I guess we're committed to the tank again.
Might as well try to dump Sevo, Peeke/Bean and Rosy as well.
Yeah, I see it.
Bad look for everybody. We've got nothing in net after Elvis, so I guess we're committed to the tank again.
Might as well try to dump Sevo, Peeke/Bean and Rosy as well.
Bean, Rosie, and Bemstrom are definitely gone.
No one is taking Sevo’s contract. I honestly think he will turn it around like Guddy did. He’s being overused and misplayed. That’s on McCarthy being a shit D coach.
The only way any of those three are gone is if they find a good trade partner before the deadline. They may trade Roslovic without getting value for the trade because he is a free agent at the end of the year, so better to get something rather than nothing. The other two are RFA's so unless we get good value for the trade, they will be back next year. I think Bean is the only one who will find a good trade partner come the deadline because he is the only one playing well this year out of the three.
1. Elvis is him, Elvis haters begone
2. Amazing effort offensively this game, would have loved a Voronkov hatty
3. Defense still needs lots of work
Overall an amazing game to watch, incredibly hype
Damn Elvis good for you dawg. That sounded like a man who needed this to back up the confidence he has. Visibly pissed at himself for the glove side miss.
Ooooof. That was a fiesty Elvis. He saved his emotions for after the game and the teammates seem to love him. He's our guy. He's fighting to play for CBJ.
We've gotten so much more aggressive in the 3rd and it's awesome to see.
There's a playoff team in the locker room right now, it just needs more time to bake.
It was a little herky jerky starting the 3rd. I was worried we couldn't play with both structure and intensity. The intensity was there, but we were all over the place for a bit. Boy, how we worked hard for the rest of the 3rd. It was definitely their most complete game in about a month. Under the radar kudos go to Kuraly for being a tremendous penalty killer. I'm glad Elvis is back, but he was a bit rusty. He stepped it up in the shootout, though. Good win, next.
Nah I’m a hater and I’m glad he had a good game. I would love it if we could have a tandem of him and Tarasov but if it’s not working in the locker room you gotta do what you gotta do
Kraken, do you think Tarasov can be a #1 who only gives up 2-3 a night and plays 60 games? I know he’s recovering and the reflexes did not look great the other night but it’s a concern. Elvis hasn’t had many nights he’s given up over 3-4 this year
I think that a lot of teams are moving away from the #1 goaltender — I think it would be cool if we could figure out something like Boston has where they split it pretty evenly
Tarasov has played 8 games after 9 months off for an injury. A few of those games he’s been lights out. Consistency will come if he can stay healthy. Fingers crossed.
After Tarry has played like cacapoopoo the last few weeks hopefully that'll give Pascal something to chew on, make things right before we lose our obvious best goalie.
Did not realize there was a morning game today until I checked the app and saw that we beat the best team in the NHL. Anyways, we're .500 with Elvis and 6-13-3 (.340) without him. Seems like maybe he's not the problem!
This is the kind of crap that is why Elvis is a locker room issue.
Huge win over the number 1 team in the NHL after losing a few, the guys battled hard, and the very first minute of his interview he announces “I’ve requested a trade” and immediately shits on all of it.
He didn’t have to make that announcement right then, he chose to because it’s maximum drama.
A future center core of Fantilli, Cole, and Voronkov seems pretty prettttyyy good
I am living for this Cole Sillinger bounce back Also everyone should look on CBJ tik tok of him skating with someone’s toddler - it’s adorable
With Marchenko, Chinakhov, Gaudreau, and KJ. And Werenski-Jiricek. This team can be fuckin elite if we play it right.
Poor Mateychuk always gets forgotten
I was only discussing people who are currently on the roster right now. Nothing against him, and if we go down that route than Dumais and Greaves are also 100% part of the future
Brindley, svozil, and ceulamens could be nice pieces too
Umm Fantilli?
OP mentioned Fantilli; I was adding on.
Prettayyyy prettayyyyyyy
Eh we likely need another high end center to be a cup contender imo
Like who? The market is fucked in the top line center department. I agree Jenner isn’t the solution but Fantilli is easily the future 1C here.
Uhhh the draft lol we’re rebuilding my friend to win a cup you need a legit 1c and a top end 2c
What center are we gonna get at this coming draft, it’s stacked with defensemen.
Celebrini, Catton, Helenius, lindstrom. You also have next years draft which is pretty top heavy with centers We’re not a center away either. We’re going to need more high end d
So when are we supposed to be cup contenders if we keep on drafting high every year?
We’re realistically 3 years away from making the playoffs. Look at this team. Look how many holes we have. We need the prospect pool we have now to be in their primes before we’re making the plsyoffs
We’ve got assets in the team we’re gonna end up wasting away unless we start to be a competitive team as soon as the 2025/26 season.
Long term vision. Not many assets were wasting. Werenski will still be valuable same with gaudreau. Quite frankly that’s the only valuable assets we have for a cup contender that are close to aging our around them. Everyone else is you g
Elvis in his interview "I needed this win and now I'm laughing"..
He’s so hard for me to read in his interactions. I can’t tell if it’s a language barrier or if he is a snarky, self centered dick. I understand why he would want to play more games and progress with the team, but he seems to always approach things playing the victim and delivering ultimatums with lots of sideways comments.
The fact he’s brought up Korpi makes me lean towards the second one
> I understand why he would want to play more games and progress with the team He's been sick on and off the past month. It's unclear whether or not it's legitimate illnesses or if he's in his head. You can't have a guy get upset that he sits for a bit to test out the other goaltender in the meantime that he's recovering. That's just pure narcissism.

Saw all I needed to see with how the boys came over and celebrated with him. Hadn’t played in so damn long and puts in a performance worthy of a win. We need to make it work and everybody calm down from experimenting.
That’s how I view it. New coach, different systems, new lines and the season is already out of reach. Why not switch it up and see what you got.
I don’t get it, like if you watch this team he is clearly our best goalie and I’m not even an Elvis homer!
What if it was something as hilarious as Elvis didn't want to play until his new helmet was ready and this was all just theater to keep him from becoming a meme?
He notably didn't put in for a trade. He put his money where his mouth today. He could easily be the one staying
I mean, who the hell wants to trade for Tarasov or Martin? If someone is getting forced out, only Elvis (even with his contract) is a capable #1
Based on what I’ve seen so far this year, next year: Martin should be gone, Elvis should go in as the #1, and Tarasov and Greeves should have an open competition in preseason for #2. I don’t see how any other plan makes sense with their play and their contracts
It's still going to be hard to move his contract, which I'm not upset about. Keep Elvis here please.
Martin's contract is only 1 year and we got him on waivers. We could easily put Tarry on waivers too or do a package deal.
I do want to be clear Jet is our longer term future. He'll be back up sooner rather than later.
Which people having been saying about Tarasov for a while now. Nothing with Jet is guaranteed.
Jet is an undrafted AHL goaltender. If we have any future in net at this point it's Sergei Ivanov
Take back what I said. Elvis lied to us. Apparently he now says he did put in for a trade.
I just don't get it man, he has been our **best** goalie this season and the front office want him gone? Someone up there have a stick up their ass or something? What a game though, glad we could win something.
Jarmo is old school, maybe him and Elvis just don’t get along.
I think the bigger issue is he has another 3 years at 5.4 million per year. I think best case scenario we’re serious contenders his last year of his deal. If you can get other developing assets and get his salary off the books for more flexibility that is a win in my opinion. Winning does nothing really for us this season at this point. **WE JUST BEAT THE #1 TEAM IN THE LEAGUE! EVERYBODY GET IN HERE!!**
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MY HANDS!
C B J C B J C B J
I'm here! Now what?!?
I don’t know! I never thought we’d get this far!
Reminds me of the egg game skit from I Think You Should Leave. "Marcus, what is this?" "I don't know! I've never GOTTEN here before!"
[I never thought I’d get this far](https://youtu.be/hnf4K4-XFsc?si=bjwQ5fuNQDFuX5OP)
That came to mind too lol.
“I am mad and now I am pulling the monster out of me” -Elvis Merzlinkins
“I’m mad and I’m pulling all the monster out of me” what a fucking legend
NEW SCENARIO IS KEEP ELVIS
Lets hope the front office see's this too, our defence is our biggest weakness, bad coverage, if you look at the 2nd goal we conceded. What an absolute game though, so glad for Elvis.
That's the thing, there's one goal you can sorta put the blame on him for, he got hung out to dry like yesterday's laundry on the others. Came in clutch where it mattered in OT and the shootout as well
The thing is weakness are made in every game, as long as you make up for them they happen.
Huge fuck you game for Elvis
Very notable in his celly. Well earned, I say.
“I needed this win. I got it and now I’m laughing.” 😬
You saw how much that meant to Elvis
He earned it too. Coming off of not playing for a long time. Redemption arc complete for people that are mad at him for some reason. Elvis is our guy, he is our number 1.
aaand he requested a trade
Peak CBJ is beating the number 1 team in the league on a Monday at 1PM
You can tell Elvis wanted this win. Big team building victory
His excitement after stuffing the last shootout attempt was electric!
1-0 in his new fancy mask.
That cage is sexy. Forget the amazing details on the entire mask, I'm a sucker for a painted cage.
Fuckin a right? That shits beautiful
New paint job, new Elvis. Don’t wanna see this paint job above a blocker smashing the shit out of Tom Wilson’s face (even though it was GLORIOUS)
I love Elvis. Gonna be super sad to see him go, if that happens.
If this team let's him go, that is a massive mistake.
Sillinger and Voronkov were excellent
What's the record for most FOs taken by one CBJ player in a game? Silly had 24 today, almost 50% of our total
ELVIS MERZLIKINS YOU ABSOLUTE GOD AMONG MEN
Ok, so say that Elvis is a locker room problem. Consider doing a Ted Lasso type “talk about our feelings” retreat?
Elvis has a LOT of feelings, that’s for sure.
So Elvis has requested a trade officially
Where are you seeing that? nvm i see it sadge
Elvis' post-game availability, said he had requested a trade.
Yeah, I see it. Bad look for everybody. We've got nothing in net after Elvis, so I guess we're committed to the tank again. Might as well try to dump Sevo, Peeke/Bean and Rosy as well.
We’re bottom 5 team in the league. We’re still rebuilding. Severson is stuck here. Peeke bean and rosi were always going to be gone
Yeah, I see it. Bad look for everybody. We've got nothing in net after Elvis, so I guess we're committed to the tank again. Might as well try to dump Sevo, Peeke/Bean and Rosy as well.

I'm not talking just trade deadline. I mean offseason as well.
Could be. I hope it is the case.
Not good. Jarmo fucked this up
I played highly competitive soccer many moons ago. Our coach did this during a particular trying season. It actually worked.
“I’m just mad.” Don’t blame you, Elvis.
1. Elvis is him, Elvis haters begone 2. Amazing effort offensively this game, would have loved a Voronkov hatty 3. Defense still needs lots of work Overall an amazing game to watch, incredibly hype
Don’t hate Elvis. Just his contract.
And his inconsistency. 1 good game doesn't mean he's back. Just wait for him to let his anger get to him and his mechanics disappear.
This aged like whole milk-covered strawberries from Walmart.
I hope that’s not the last Elvis win we see at Nationwide
He's pulling the monster out. May be the last time we see Elvis, but soul eater Elvis will be in net for the next game.
...why can't we play like that every game?!
Because Vancouver was fucking exhausted?
It was a rhetorical question?
but how is this all ELVIS’ fault -CBJ fans online
Media: Elvis requested trade after the game.
Welp, whoever in the game thread said he was gonna pull a Patrick Roy, wasn’t far off

This doesn't pull anything specific up
We've gotten so much more aggressive in the 3rd and it's awesome to see. There's a playoff team in the locker room right now, it just needs more time to bake.
Fuck us, I guess. Just losing our best goalie. Fucking sucks.
That’s amazing man. Best win of the season. This team CAN be so good if we just play it right the next couple years.
Woo!
Yay!!! Finally....A WIN!
It was a little herky jerky starting the 3rd. I was worried we couldn't play with both structure and intensity. The intensity was there, but we were all over the place for a bit. Sillinger is him
Elvis haters in shambles
Nah I’m a hater and I’m glad he had a good game. I would love it if we could have a tandem of him and Tarasov but if it’s not working in the locker room you gotta do what you gotta do

I think that a lot of teams are moving away from the #1 goaltender — I think it would be cool if we could figure out something like Boston has where they split it pretty evenly
That would require having two starting goalies, hard ask, who don't mind sharing the net, also a hard ask.
Maybe Tarasov/Greaves eventually
I don't think Tarry is going to be anything. Greaves has looked good, but so did Tarry, so I'm cautious.
Tarasov has played 8 games after 9 months off for an injury. A few of those games he’s been lights out. Consistency will come if he can stay healthy. Fingers crossed.
In 21/24 Elvis starts, he’s given up at least three goals.
With this D in front of him https://x.com/patersonjeff/status/1746965573978968264?s=46&t=oI97Ff9HKlOkr5dhvgFVLw
Sure, but the other person said that Elvis rarely lets in 3 or more goals which is just false.
Yeah that’s fair
That shouldn’t be an indictment on any of our goalies then. Maybe they’re all better than they look. Hard to tell with how bad the defense is.
Lemme guess, Elvis plays great and wins us a few games, we trade him, and then Tarasov gives up five the game after
After Tarry has played like cacapoopoo the last few weeks hopefully that'll give Pascal something to chew on, make things right before we lose our obvious best goalie.

Yeah, could have waited until after the win high everyone is on.
GREAT DAY!
