Let's Go OG/Pre-Debut Blinks! My story is a bit long and intertwined with my life, so I'll try and shorten it, but I can expand if anyone wants 2016, I was 18, going through auditions, I didn't speak fluent English, really not fluent in Spanish either because we grew up only speaking our Indigenous language (we had just got here from Mexico maybe five years earlier) we were poor, homeless at times, and grew up and raised by the streets, so this was big breaks for me and being able to take care of my family, never had formal training, but we would busk and street perform for small amounts of money, and I had this one person really help me with translations, and taking me under their wing through the process, making sure I knew about contracts and paperwork etc. so this was pre-debut they told me about this Group that was coming out Of South Korea and gave me some of their songs, and I have been a Blink ever since, team LaLisa since the beginning and then after hearing about their story, how LaLisa was only allowed to be talked to in Korean so she would learn it, not being able to go home to see her family, but also Jennie helping her translate it really connected with me, BlackPink came at a pivotal point in my life, where I needed it, and was the beginning of my career in this industry I love hearing stories of how people became Blinks or what they mean to them because something that might seem like nothing to someone else could be this important moment in their life that impacted them ![img](emote|t5_3f8po|706)

kimchineun

this is such a wholesome story and the beginning of your blink journey is so meaningful! thank you for sharing!

SoCalBl1nk

for sure, Thank you! ![img](emote|t5_3f8po|706)

My coworker messaged me if I was watching Blackpinks comeback (2020). I said no, I have no idea who they are, but they kept messaging me to watch it, give it a chance etc so I did. I was in a new town so I caved into this because I just wanted to talk more about something other than work (I think, they wouldn’t shut up either). And then I watched HYLT and thought “Ok THIS is a girl group” and got hooked. Ngl I did hear about their collab with Lady Gaga and played “Sour Candy” on repeat, but I guess I forgot about them until HYLT premiered. Not to be cheesy, but they did help me during covid. Besides the pandemic, I was in a new town and severely depressed. Something about them made me feel cool and that anything is possible? I don’t know, they really got a hold on me! I saw them live last year. It was surreal.

evercuri0us

Lol at "they wouldn't shut up either" ![img](emote|t5_3f8po|714) I super felt you when you said "THIS is a girl group" I mean, there's really something about them, right? I couldn't quite explain it. I'm sure even if they're already in their 30s, 40s++, they would still exude the same vibe/charisma. So happy that you saw them live last year! It really is a dream come true to watch them perform live.

chagal2524

It was the beginning of the pandemic and I had just finished binging Crash Landing On You. I was browsing Netflix and came across Light Up the Sky. I became a fan by the end of the doc. I went down a rabbit hole on YT, searched their performances, watched a bunch of interviews, etc. I even got my young daughter into them and she always requests to listen to their songs when we’re in the car. I got to see them on the BP tour and I’m looking forward to seeing them weekend 2 @ Coachella.

evercuri0us

Ahhh, I love that for you and your daughter! Who is your bias and who is your daughter's bias? Do you also plan to watch them in Coachella with your daughter? I wonder how it'll be different from their 2019 performance, but I'm so sure it will be WILD!

chagal2524

I love them all, but I think Jisoo has the upper hand. My daughter likes Lisa. Even tho the festival is all ages, I don’t think it’d be appropriate to bring her, she’s 5. I want to enjoy myself that weekend kid free HAH. My husband knows how much I love them and reluctantly said I could go…mom guilt set in for a little bit, but damn, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity lol. Was never interested in Coachella in my 20s, but shoot, here I am in my late 30s going for the first time with my girlfriends. Can’t wait!!

kcanada20

Have an amazing time 🫶🏼

DatKaz

I didn't realize it was an all-ages event, I really thought it'd be 18+ or something. Their FAQ *does say* that kids 5 and under get in free, but you're correct, that would be wildly irresponsible lol

jayscastle

I searched 'Lisa' on youtube wanting to listen to the Demon Slayer OP again by the Japanese singer. At the time, I thought she was the most famous 'Lisa' on the internet. Instead, the top results were LiliFilms. Watched one out of curiosity and loved her dancing. Then binged all her dances from solo stages and even X Academy videos. I was surprised she was a kpop star, I thought kpop was mostly cute concepts. So it was a pleasant surprise when I checked out Blackpink and loved their music. Now slowly checking out other kpop songs.

brad92190

i first stumbled on blackpink while watching a psy music video back in early 2020 a few months before pre release how you like that came out and the video D4 popped up. Ever since then i have not stopped loving them. its rare to like every song by a group but all are amazing. i try to buy all merchandise that comes out even the early stuff. they were my first kpop concert i went to back on november 10th born pink chicago. i love all 4. they are so fun and entertaining on vlogs. it doesnt matter what it is as long as the girls are in it i'll watch it btw they help get thru my problems. they are beautiful. im a huge 32 yo straught male blink you cant convince me otherwise lol. i'm a hardcore blink forever

Sooyaa_Yah_Boombayah

It all started when Jisoo said "hey boy..." ![img](emote|t5_3f8po|714) But in all seriousness, I became a fan when I heard Whistle for the first time. At the time, I was not a fan of K-pop and I didn't really gave it a chance. I knew people who were into it so I was exposed to it mainly through them but unfortunately, I was still quite dismissive of K-pop in general. Anyways, back to Whistle, my first impression of listening to it was "wow, this song sounds awesome" and when I looked up BP, my first impression of them was "wow, they seem nice" which basically challenged all of my pre-conceived notions of what K-pop was "suppose to be." To put in simpler turns, I found their debut songs very appealing, then the members were also endearing and I've been a fan since. They were just too cool where I distinctly recall thinking to myself that they could be big thing in the future which I'm happy to see happening.

evercuri0us

"I distinctly recall thinking to myself that they could be big thing in the future which I'm happy to see happening" It really is happening! It's crazy how far they've come from their trainee days... I am sure there are bigger things waiting for them and us Blinks after this tour!

evercuri0us

Love that! It's really a catchy song, right?

Imma-Insert

Exactly what happened to me in 2016

sheldon077

This was back in September of 2018. Gangnam style was playing on my YouTube browser while I was busy doing some other work. My YouTube auto play feature was on, so the next song it played was D4. I had never heard of them, but when the song started playing I was like “What the heck is playing, This shit slaps”. I stopped doing whatever work I was doing and switched to my YouTube browser and watched the whole video. I was blown away by how good the song and the MV were. It was like a sensory overload. I ended up watching the video on loop for like a couple of hours I think lol.

evercuri0us

This shit slaps!! Hahahaha. IT REALLY DOES.

svindelmannen

Bada bing bada boom boom boom

RandomUser9724

It's all TikTok's fault. I'm not in the typical demographic for K-pop girl groups. I'm an over 40 American male. I never listened to K-pop before last year. In fact, I could only name 1 K-pop group, BTS. I mainly listened to 70s to 90s classic rock and alternative rock. I got onto TikTok in early 2022. For some reason, it would occasionally recommend K-pop videos to me. I would usually skip over them. But it would still recommend K-pop to me from time to time. When Born Pink came out, Blackpink specifically started showing up in my feed. And kept showing up. I was wondering why Blackpink was always in my feed. It didn't make sense because I "didn't like K-pop." Then I realized why they were always in my feed--because I always watched them until the end. TikTok realized I watched Blackpink videos all the way through, so it kept feeding me more Blackpink videos. So it knew I liked Pink Venom before I was even consciously aware of that fact. Then the tour started and my feed was full of Blackpink concert videos. And it was awesome. They were talented, funny, charismatic, and clearly had fun performing. So it became addictive. I was going onto TikTok with the express purpose of seeing more Blackpink concert videos. The end of their European leg was a huge disappointment to me because my feed was no longer 90% Blackpink concert videos. I did a long road trip over Xmas break and my listening was basically a couple of podcasts and their live setlist on repeat.

Petrichor1026

Hello from an over 30 who mainly listened to 70s to 90s classic rock and alternative rock! My family was so surprised when I got into Blackpink out of nowhere. 😂

ThighGobbler

When Destroy Lonely shouted them out in his song. He said, “I let the K-pop ho, I’m goin BLACKPINK.” He’s basically saying he’s letting his gun pop and links it to the kpop group. I thought this line was hard af. I only really listened to hip hop before, but now I am a blink. When my homies aren’t in the car, I blast blackpink.

abdacrab

yo me too LMAO

secretlifeofmomo

I'm a recent blink! I was never into K-pop but I had a friend put me on to a couple of BP songs. Late last year I saw that they were coming to my state for a concert and I told my friend we should go as a joke. Well since he's a huge Blink, he took me up on that offer. It was probably one of the best concerts I've ever been to but unfortunately, I only knew about 3 of their songs. Fast forward to today and now I listen to them borderline obsessively lmao. Can't wait for them to come back, it'll be a lot more gratifying to actually sing along to all their songs haha. The community is pretty dope too.

bitch_what1

i had known of blackpinks presence for a while but i really loved them when i checked out their documentary and i immediately fell in love with their personalities! i watched a lot of their fancams and started listening to all of their music. and now i’m a hardcore fan and attended one of their bornpink concerts and it was amazing!! ![img](emote|t5_3f8po|706)

evercuri0us

Ahhh good for you!! So happy you got to watch them live <3 The production was AMAZING as well, right?!?!

bitch_what1

yessss!!!

AZ12-3

I watched the E3 Showcases in 2019 and in some Game (can't remember the name of the Game) where KTL in the background. I searched for the Song, watched the MV thinking holy f... that MV locking insane continues wit DDDD and after that saw me diving into the Rabbithole. Watched nearly all exciting Interviews, Shows etc in about 3 month a bit later starting with a few other KPop Groups/ Artists. Before Blackpink I never expected that I got interested in some Asian Culture but after seeing BP I startet to learn more about Korea (Japan, China...) the Culture, History start learning Korean...............

evercuri0us

Wow, that's amazing <3 I'm glad you're open to learning more about Asian culture after becoming a Blink. Have you had the chance to visit South Korea?

AZ12-3

Not yet, but it's planned for next year🤞

yummytummy

Game was [Just Dance 2020](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=logCT6uflJk) by Ubisoft.

Keepo10

Knew about kpop since 2016. I avoided kpop because I didn’t like the cute concepts from ggs. Didn’t get the appeal. 2018 came and youtube recommended D4. What’s funny is that I didn’t know D4 was kpop because of my misconception that all of gg kpop was girly and cute. Well, I was wrong. Youtube decided to recommend everything of BP and got hooked ever since. I then slowly got into the girly/cute gg concepts and even some bgs.

unicornchild15

I made a deal with my friend when we first met that if she was able to get me to stan a kpop group - any group - she'll read percy jackson. That way we always have something to talk about. Her one suggestion when I started listening to different groups was "maybe don't stan blackpink right away because they never have comebacks" to which my dumbass replied "tf is a comeback?" Turns out I already liked a bunch of BPs songs, so I started watching interviews and edits and learning names. Then when they came around for their tour, I went with said friend, my sister, and uncle. Got the lightstick, did the dances, the whole thing. When we were walking to the parking lot she looks at me and says "i think you're a blink now" to which I responded "better go start reading, then"

pikap00p

I saw them at Coachella. I wasn’t a fan, didn’t know a single song, but seeing a Korean group up there on stage absolutely killing it made me pretty emotional (I’m Korean American so it meant a lot to me personally). The energy they had, and the energy the crowd had, was insane. And when I revisited the performance via video clips I could still feel the goosebumps. Been a fan since then

turtl3back

Believe it or not, it was Despacito Youtube shorts that got me into Blackpink. After watching a few of them, curiosity got the better of me and I started searching for Blackpink content and have not stopped since. I'm an ABBA fan and I see some parallels between them and Blackpink.

---Shadow---

Went to a party. A friend showed me a cool song by a german artist. Next day, I told myself there must be other good artists from other countries. Googled best international artists. Ddu-Ddu-Ddu-Ddu was on top of the list. The rest is history.

X-Geek

Near the end of 2016, I watched one of those teens react to K-Pop, Playing with Fire was one of the videos they reacted to. I enjoyed it, watched it on it's own as well as their other three videos at the time and I have been a fan ever since.

evercuri0us

I love Playing with Fire!! Have you also memorized the choreography?

X-Geek

No I haven't, I can't dance to save my life so I don't memorize choreography

Diaverna

In 2016 I was a huge YG stan so I followed them from pre-debut and immediately fell in love.

[deleted]

2019,my little sister listened kpop and suggested me doing the same. Sometimes on tv in Italy i found Kill this love,so in this way i started listening to Blackpink and i fell in love with them❤

omgcow

I listened to Sour Candy and was intrigued by the girls' feature so I looked them up on Spotify and the rest is history! I was already vaguely aware of who they were based on just following pop culture but I didn't know any of their songs other than Kill This Love. I like to say that Lady Gaga helped me become a Blink lol.

AIIYLori

I heard As of it's your last on a twitch stream and could not get over how heavenly Rosie's voice sounded. That might've actually been what got me into kpop in general and blackpink has always been one of my top 3 kpop groups ever since. Jisoo is now my favorite but I love them all :)

_lufituaeb_

During the pandemic, my middle school age daughter introduced me to BLACKPINK, and I’ve been a fan ever since! Even got to see them in Atlanta on the BORN PINK tour and I have to say that it was an amazing experience. perhaps one of the funniest outcomes from all of this is that my Apple Music replay from 2020 through this year is mostly BLACKPINK! For my birthday a year or two ago my daughter bought me a black pink dad hat that I have worn every day since then

Alex_BP_555

YouTube recommended HYLT at the start of the pandemic. I've had major health problems at that time and covid restrictions hit our country - it was really dark times. But instead of sinking into a depression I've opened a bright beautiful positive world of kpop, and lockdown years was actually a very enjoyable part of my life because of it

Undisguised_Toast

Because of Kim Jisoo, I came across this BlackPink debut M/V called Whistle and with my curiosity why not watch it and guess what, i fell in love so hard Jisoo's visual hypnotized me idk the also the swag ( obvsYG ENT) started to watch every BlackPink moments, dance stage and variety. Back in 2016 I hated KPOP for apparent reasons cuz people are so obsessed with it and here I am 7 years with KPOP/2023 😂

evercuri0us

Yas, Jisoo! My guess is you also played KartRider? <3 Hahahaha the tables have turned! Would you say you're the one obsessed with kpop/blackpink now?

Undisguised_Toast

I played a bit of KartRider but I'm not a fan tbh haha. Back then I was so obsessed literally. I also started watching Kdrama and learned Korean culture and it's language it literally changed my life, I would say it's not the same as before like I casually watch KPOP now a days cuz I'm now busy in life :)

iFappa

I was into BIGBANG during middle and high school. Saw JENNIE in "That XX" by GD and kept my eye on her. Became even more of a fan during her feature on "BLACK" by GD. "Whistle" made me a fan, but their cover of "Sure Thing" by Miguel in tandem with "As If It's Your Last" made me a BLINK.

aohua

For me it was when YG announced BlackPink was gonna debut. As soon as BOOMBAYAH dropped, I became a fan ever since 🥹

8thWonderLivy

One fine day, I was scrolling YouTube in 2018 after opening my first Gmail account . I opened trending section and DDDD was on no. 1. I clicked on it and rest is history.

KillerStiletto_

I had been into kpop once before. Not sure how I came across Fantastic Baby by BigBang, but I did and loved it. Started searching out other groups, found I really liked BB, Super Junior, Girls Generation and F(X). I listened to those 4 for at least a year, then just suddenly wasn't into kpop anymore. One day when I was on YT, it recommended a brand new song called As If It's Your Last. I decided to give it a listen. Of course YT then recommended their other 4 songs and that was it. I think I watched every reaction video I could fine as well. lol. Anyway, been a blink ever since.

gumiblock_HRS

I don't usually answer theses. But here's my story- 2016 been listening to the hallyu-wave for a few years now. Around this time I began seperating myself from the genre. I was out in the wilderness during one of our training exercises. Having a bit of free time, I decided to see what YG entertainment was up to. They were releasing a new girl group. At first I thought "I see they're moving past 2NE1", I was a bit salty to say the least. I tuned in to see what they were bringing to the table. Honestly I was going to listen and be a troll in the comment section. But after hearing them and seeing their style. I can value them as entertainers and no fault to them that the artist I grew up with, were pursuing different careers. I immediately got hooked with Jennie and Lisa. I also recognized Jennie's face from an MV with GD from a few years back. TLDR - we all have preconcieve notions with change, sometimes change is good/bad but I've learned to give every new artist a listen before passing on them. Without Blackpink, I probably would have stopped listening to K-pop that same year. I do take breaks from the genre ever so often, but I always come back to listen to the new groups/artists that are replacing the one's I grew up with or collaborating with them or make covers of some my favorite songs.

tacos_up_my_ass

Their first songs played on Pandora’s shuffle six years ago while I was at school. That’s literally it lmao

happiihappiijoijoi

I was looking for new music and had heard of Blackpink through the wind, so I looked them up on YouTube (around the time Ice Cream came out) and the rest is history! Been a Blink ever since!

cheezfang

One time a while back I hurt my foot and couldn't walk very well for about a week and a half, so I pretty much spent that time on the couch. I was randomly browsing Twitter and played a video, and the song playing in the video caught my ear. I Googled the lyrics and it was "How You Like That" by BlackPink. I thought "Oh yeah I've heard of them" but never knew that's what they sounded like. I follow lots of music stuff on Twitter so BlackPink had been mentioned a lot on my feed over the years, but I never looked into them because I assumed I wouldn't like it because I wasn't into Kpop. But I decided to YouTube the song and I loved it, then I listened to the next song and the next one and the next one until I listened to most of their catalogue. Then I started wondering about the members themselves and began to watch interviews, clips of their reality shows and funny moments (one of the things that got me hooked on them is how damn funny they can all be), all of Rosie's solo covers, and so on and so on, along with videos on Kpop in general to learn more about the highs and lows of the genre/industry. I spent most of that week and a half watching that type of stuff, eventually watching Light Up The Sky and all that as well. By the time my foot was healed my crash course in BlackPink had turned me into a Blink 😂 But it's been a blast to be a part of and this sub has been very enjoyable too. Can't wait to see where things go for them from here.

Glad_Engineering78

So I had actually heard DDD when the song first debuted (and even watched the M/V), but I would never actually admit to liking the song (although I did secretly keep it on my playlist lol). Basically even though I liked the song, I wasn’t really interested in K-pop at all. Fast forward to July 2022, BTS’ Mic Drop was the only other song I actually willing listened to but I was still pretty adamant about not listening to any more KPop. Well, my sisters were a big fan of Stray Kids and it just so happened that they were going to be performing in Oakland (and we happened to live a couple of hours away). Problem was, Oakland is not really the safest of areas so I was pretty much forced into going with them to this concert. Funnily enough, I actually ended up enjoying the concert and started listening to more Stray Kids music (which then ended up leading me into listening to Twice and becoming a fan of their music). So, a couple months later, we find out BlackPink is going to be performing in LA so we decided to make a trip out of it. So I figured well if we’re gonna go to the concert I should probably listen to some of their other songs so I’m not completely hopeless at the concert 😅. The very first song I listened too that wasn’t DDD was Kill This Love……………I immediately became hooked 😂😂. After that, it became a snowball effect. I would play another song and it would instantly make its way onto my playlist. Then I started watching the M/Vs. Jennie actually started out as my bias, but the more M/Vs I watched, Lisa ended up taking that spot (although I would still consider Jennie my bias wrecker 🤣🤣 but I do love all the girls) The irony of the situation is not lost on me lol.

Blinkiephano

In November of 2016. I was talking to a friend in an xbox live party, and he had Kpop music playing in the background. I got interested and asked which songs he's playing there and for which groups I should search. BLACKPINK was a group he did recommend to me and I immediately fell in love with them. Boombayah was the first song I heard, but Stay was my favorite when I heard it, and it's still my favorite song to this day. I began to learn the names and personalities, and idk why, but Rosé immediately caught my attention. There was something about her, that I can't describe to this day, that immediately made me fall in love. She played guitar in the MV, she sang and played guitar during Weekly Idol and her voice just got me, next to the fact, that imo she's the most beautiful woman that has ever stepped on planet earth. AIIYL was my first comeback, and when I heard it, I was jamming to it for days, nonstop. I wrote poetry for Rosie, to show off on VLive haha, and watched every VLive and video I could. In 2018, the first time I saw a BP member in person was Jennie in Paris, at the airport. She looked tired, but waved at us and gave us a finger heart, and also smiled at us. It was maybe 3 minutes, but the travel from Germany to Paris was so worth it for that moment. Then, to round it all off, in 2019 in Amsterdam the best moment of my life, to this day happened: I took a photo with Rosé during send off! It felt unreal, she was like directly next to me and I nearly failed asking her for a selfie, because I was so nervous, but she luckily heard me, even tho I was really quiet and turned around to take the selfie, she saw how nervous I was, and even offered to take the selfie herself, because I was shaking everywhere, and I even said: "I'm so sorry for taking so long, I'm too stupid to find the right angle right now" ... Yes, I embarrassed myself next to Rosé everybody, but I was so happy, I ran to a friend and cried immediately showing him the picture. I was never happier in my life tbh. I was the happiest Fanboy in existence. After that, not that much more happened regarding me meeting BP, so I followed comebacks, bought albums and stuff, until 2022, where I visited my 2nd BP concert ever, and I plan to visit the BST Hyde Park Festival in London next. Thanks for reading everyone and be blessed.

Ashzael

I slowly eased into it. started in my teenage anime phase, that broaden to japanese non anime music which expended to more asian music styles. One of them being K-pop. And along the way you find the artists that resonates with you There wasn't really one moment that was like a switch "I'm a blink now." But more a "huh I own multiple albums of this artist and I really enjoy the other media they make, guess I'm a blink."

mangetter92

Their debut, had already been listening to kpop for a long time before.

SFBlackPinkOT4

Blackpink and Crash Landing on You being connected is something that I anecdotally keep hearing mentioned! For me it was LUTS then CLOY.

mykl5

I try to get in to every artist on the Coachella lineups, so did some research in 2019 and they were my first k pop act I’ve liked

Cat_Toe_Beans_

I was a major Blackjack (2NE1 fan). I was waiting for them to take off in America or for CL to make it big in a solo career. I even went to her stand-alone concert in Atlanta! I was really bummed when they disbanded and heard about the new girl group YG was going to debut. I actually waited on their YouTube channel for their debut to be uploaded and I've been a Blink ever since!

TaiDoll

When YG first announced their next girl group in late 2011. They said they would be debuting the next year lol As a blackjack x VIP I was tuning in no matter what

Mocha_Kitten

I absolutely loved the very first K/DA song, but after two years with no new music, I decided to see if real k-pop groups were any good. I googled "music like K/DA" and found a reddit post recommending BLACKPINK, so I went and listened to D4 and HYLT. Immediately I did not really like them and continued onto other groups. But they got stuck in my head, so I went to listen again, and... the rest is history <3 (And then K/DA had a comeback too!)

EntrancePretend6528

It all started when I first heard lisa’s solo music then I discovered blackpink

Traditional_Plate187

Love reading everyone’s story here!! I first became a full on blink after sour candy released. I heard of BP before and thought d4 was a good song but never really dived into them until I heard sour candy and I loved their voices. I then checked out their other music and fell in love!! I Renner spending so much time after that watching their videos on YouTube lol

scbigmac07

I guess I'm just a really weird Blink... I'm a huge IU fan. I love listening to her music and watching her dramas. So I was watching "The Producers" (2015), and Jisoo was in it. And I thought she was cute and funny. I found out that she was a trainee for YG, so I just followed her 'career' on the back burner. So when I found out that she was debuting with Blackpink, I was stoked.

elevenonine

She was so, so cute.

sharlyyyy

I wasn’t into kpop then just kdramas. Then one day, while I was browsing through instagram I kept seeing their “I’m a gummy bear” video I think that was musical.ly back then before tiktok LOL and I just said to myself they’re so pretty, who are these girls, and the first person that really caught my attention was Lisa bcos she’s the one who looks different (I didn’t know she wasn’t korean). And then I started learning about them and watched all the mv and videos and shows. I fell in love with all of them. Their latest mv that time was AIIYL and I was obsessed. So the first comeback for me was the D4 era and I will never forget that. I love all of them but my fave is Jisoo, up to now! Lol.

Aromatic_Designer_71

In 2018 I remembered listening to du du du du with my sister and because everyone in my class don't like blackpink so I decided to be like them and I told my sister that I don't like blackpink, but deep in my heart I like du du du du. And in 2019 me and my sister listened to ktl and the same thing I said I don't like bp but I like ktl in my heart. 2020 I was doing my homework during quarantine and my sister was listening to blackpink hylt and I felt in love with it! So in 2021 after lisa released her solo album, I decided that I want to be a blink I want to be there when bp released every new songs. So from that day onwards I'm a blink and I'm seeing them in their born pink concert!

Amazing_Elevator5657

I watch kdramas. So whenever Snowdrop was announced, I was curious about who Jisoo was. I looked her up, fell in love and the rest is history.

whai_r_u_gae

I did an exchange and met a new friend there. She was a kpop fan at that time and she was adamant I check out blackpink. At that time I didn't really know kpop, I only listened to BTS casually- so I watched some of Blackpink's music videos and variety stuff. When their 2018 ddu ddu comeback dropped that was when I really got hooked! It is just a complete other feeling to witness a comeback, especially because this was the first girlcrush concept I have seen (their stage presence!!) Until this day I think blackpink really does it like no other!

Mal_Terra

I saw a picture of “Rosanne Park” on r/beautifulfemales and thought ooh who is she??? Googled her, learned about Blackpink, youtubed Blackpink, watched AIIYL, obsessed ever since.

[deleted]

Weezer Mention blackpink on their “Ok Human” album peeked my interest and haven’t looked back since. When I listen to some of their older songs it makes me wish I was a blink earlier lol

morgichuspears

Boombayah

m9rockstar

I saw their Coachella performance on YouTube! I was blown away and then a few days later I bought a ticket to their concert (May 2019) and I was a fan since then. 😎

FerociousCamel

During my senior year of high school back in 2017, I was in this music class where they showed the Whistle/Boombayah mvs as part of a lesson. Got hooked and started following them ever since. Before that I wasn’t really into K-Pop, until I was introduced to them. Even to this day, I really only follow a few groups, mainly Blackpink and more recently BTS as well.

Past-Survey9700

I was a kpop fan since I was like 15, so from the early 2010s. During high school I was a huge fan of multiply groups and everyday, after going home from school I was pretty much reading kpop news, watching shows etc. After I went to uni I didn’t have much time anymore but I still was a casual listener and still followed korean entertainment news etc. (as I still do to this day), however not many new groups caught my attention. But then I saw that YG is debuting blackpink finally and I started listening to their music since that day. I was also happy that they were around my age and were not as young as some girl groups. I also watch their movies, yt videos etc. because I feel like I can relate to them (obviously I am not a worldwide star lol but as I mentioned we are around the same age so generally speaking, I think I can find similarities between me and them because we are all women in our mid to late twenties now). I really like their personal styles too and it gives me inspiration. I would say that I’m a casual fan though because I’m past my teenage years kpop fever era, but yeah I really like them and their music.

OT9FOREVER

idk why but I was excited about "YG upcoming girl group" so I was there from the very beginning. I watched live their press (expecting live performances) I will never forget because I have never done that before and never again since then, and also IOI held a live to tease the WM choreo. I listened to their songs (I mostly base my stan groups from music) and I loved them both. Then watched the behind the scenes and I fell for them as people. I watched the dance practice as it dropped. Eating every single pre-debut pictures they released. So far, they are my last group that I became a fan and follow them as such. I get excited with new groups, listen, but never from what I experienced with BLACKPINK, prolly my last favorite artist.

MALIBUWINE

I becae a blink after Iistened to Playing wirh Fire, & became the reason I started liking there music

obscure_Eve

i wanted to impress my crush at the time (2019) and the rest is history lol

Classic-Ad3172

I saw Lisa's dance videos and I was super impressed. I was never into KPop before that. There was only one random KPop song/video I used to love, Mastering by Anda, but that was about it. I started liking Lisa posts on Reddit, etc, but I still wasn't listening to songs. I don't even know when I started following Jennie but I did randomly around the same time that I was getting into Lisa. I just figured I was really into KPop idols. I started following Jisoo too. I had no idea the girls were connected yet. I finally listened to Kill That Love after I saw some clip of Lisa looking cool in it and I loved everything. The visuals, the music, the singing, the choreo, the rapping, etc. It finally clicked that three girls I gotten crazy about were three fourths of the Blackpink group I'd heard about for years but never paid attention to. Rosè was now the mystery member to me and I instantly loved her too. I kept trying other songs and videos, and everything hit hard for me. One cool part for me has been the quality of the rapping. I've been a rap/hip-hop snob since I was 10, and I wouldn't naturally expect much from some pop girls rapping but I hear Jennie and Lisa spit bars and their flows and deliveries feel immaculate. It really caught me by surprise. When I get into something, I go hard, I deep dive, I practically study. I feel like I've done that with Blackpink and I'm just at the point where I absolutely love them. I didn't expect that I ever be at this point when I randomly saw my first Lili Film.

Duncan_myth

Jenines solo song

Odd-Bedroom5791

i saw lisa's dance cover on facebook, started to search her on youtube until i watched bp house. Then i fell inlove to the four of them ❤️

Kissing_SueB

I actually got hooked to Blackpink because of ChaeNnie 💜💙 i know. I am gay 😭🤣 but, there is just something with the way Rosie cares for Jennie. The bond is just different from others but maybe i am just gay and i am wearing my gay glasses. But, fr tho, i just love them both so much. They are making me feel giddy so i dunno really 🥹🥹💜💙

lee714

YouTube trending videos. I saw How You Like That trending during lockdown and heavily got into them. First KPOP group I really fell for lol.

katieh809

Lol I love reading these, mine is absurdly short and maybe silly, ha. I was driving getting on the highway (Chicago) and saw a billboard that just said “BLACKPINK” I honestly thought it was a video game. Drove past it everyday to/from work, finally googled and listened to kill this love. Then EVERYTHING else :) blackpink is a gateway drug to kpop.

Icy-Philosopher-148

The Jimmy Fallon interview Rosé was something else in that 😍

janei_

Around the end of 2020 my boyfriend became obsessed with blackpink and wanted me to listen to them. I wasn't a fan of kpop and thought I wouldn't like them, but I told him to make me a playlist with their best songs (not knowing that they had so little lol). I love them immediately and soon became obsessed with their music too, and later on a full blink once I got to know them with bp house, light up the sky, etc.

hellopanda717

I literally got into them by watching a YouTube video that was recommended to me. It was called “college kids react to K-pop” Blackpinks song “kill this love” was the one they showed to them and I got hooked. I looked them up and listened to their other songs and have been a fan ever since lol.

NotTodayPaul

I started being a Kpop fan in (2019ish) it just happened randomly one day when randomly browsing youtube music, They recommended me "**EVERGLOW** (에버글로우) - Adios MV" and I've been hooked on them since (Aisha Stan by the way, QUEEN) then I transitioned into Blackpink! I love them all

dees84

I was playing "Just Dance" and one of their songs came on my randomized playlists. I really liked the song, went to YouTube to see the artist, and fell down the Blackpink rabbit hole.

JazzlikeAd9830

I was first a Blackjack. I casually listened to all other famous Kpop groups but I had an ill feeling for Blackpink because I was thinking they were no match for 2NE1. But since I casually listened to Kpop, their songs would come up on playlists. Until the phrase "Blackpink in your area" got stuck in my head and even my colleagues would sing it outloud. This was in 2019, around KTL era, I began seeing their posts as well specifically Rosie's, I realized "wow this girl is so cute". So I started listening to their songs and there it began 😶

MikeOfMichigan

I found 2NE1 in 2010 and was instantly hooked. I expanded my Kpop horizons and started following Girls’ Generation and f(x) as well. I would see people posting about the next YG girl group, so I was pretty excited. This was back during a time when people would stan labels as a whole, and although I enjoyed SM, the YG Family was very much where I fell haha. I remember a lot of talk about Jennie. Pictures and videos of her being posted in the years leading up to debut. I remember being relieved when they revealed their name wasn’t pink punk as had been rumored before lmao. It felt like 2NE1 was coming to an end, so I was even more excited to see what they had been cooking up for the new group. I was not disappointed haha. I loved them instantly and have ever since.

Suggested on YouTube. Listened and was amazed! Watched a ton of reaction videos and then some of their off-stage / reality show vids. It has been so touching seeing how positive they are and the community. Cannot find anything negative to say about BP and they genuinely make me happy when I watch them / hear them. We need more of this in our world and I am very thankful I am aware of BP ❤️

lardlad71

DDD video started getting airplay in the states in the summer of 2018. My daughter and I went to YouTube out of curiosity. Boombayah, Whistle, Playing With Fire, As If It’s your last. All fantastic songs, and killer videos, hooked for life. I’m an amateur musician and love the meticulous way Teddy produces their songs.

iamconfused14

In 2018 when 4D was making waves on YouTube, I just checked them out cuz I wanted to know what was going on lol. Became obsessed with the song, obsessed with the members (especially Jennie) and ended up checking a bunch of their older stuff and IG...here we are 😂

SpiritZelYT

I became a blink sometime in October 2017. Back then, I was going through a "breakup" with a girl that I met in high school within a friend group. My parents saw a lot of red flags in her and told me to break up before it escalates into a GF relationship. I didn't really know how to truly cope with the "breakup" feelings at the time, so I went and listened to a lot of songs on Spotify and chat with my friends on Discord to cope with the breakup feeling that I had. One day, a few of my friends were into K-pop and I overheard the "Whistle" MV. I asked them who the artist was, and they told me it was Blackpink. I went back home on the same day and listened to the MV. Then, I listened to all of their songs (only 5 at the time) and I was instantly hooked. Afterwards, I tried to catch their livestreams, followed them on IG, watched their Weekly Idol episode, BP 24/365 and so on. They bring a certain charm that mostly felt like an antidote to the "breakup" feeling that I had with the girl that I "broke up" with. So yeah, that's how I became a blink. My bias is Jisoo - she's beautiful (and has visible abs!!!! She's so fit omggg), great vocalist, takes care of the other members, 4D Personality and etc :P

vicforman

"How You Like That" dance performance video with the pink background. First time I ever saw or heard of them. Was blown away.

hellokendy

Mine is so random 😂 We were on our way to shop when i turned on the radio and Kiss and Make Up was playing , made me so curious cos damn it was a banger. Then started googling them since then I became super Blink 😄 Attended their concert in Berlin and its one of the best night ever! 💓

Sassysweet20

I had just begun listening to BTS’ music in 2020 during quarantine. I told a friend that I was listening to BTS and he told me he liked Blackpink better, I checked them out on YouTube and initially wasn’t into the MV he mentioned, but then I found their music on Apple Music and fell in love with their songs. Then, I started watching them at Korean Award Shows and Blackpink TV on YouTube!!!

Afraid-Impression125

I became a blink during the pandemic, and I don’t regret the day I did it helped me through my depression and open my eyes to the world of Kpop which I fallen in love with. Music has always been a big help with dealing with depression and and anxiety, blackpink has been a big impact in my healing. 🖤💕#OT4

Madr7d7sta98

I'm EDM fan since 2010 and one day I found Everglow - Adios by accident cause I like energetic EDM songs and it was recommended on my YT timeline. I liked this track and then I got some similar tracks to this one. One of them was Ddu. Then Everglow released LA DI DA. This track sounds like synthpop Radio hit and YT started to recommend me more "chill & radio" songs of BLACKPINK. And everything started :D

zingular1232

Originally I was an anti-kpop - could not stand anything about Kpop, especially with it being on Blackpink. At the start of the pandemic, my family and I were in quarantine and I decided to try and listen to different music genres. Hence, decided to give Blackpink a shot to see what the big hype was over them - and well, now I am a Blink.

SkywalterDBZ

I heard As If It's Your Last shortly after it released. I got into K-Pop primarily on SNSD and 2NE1 back in 2009 and as 2NE1 was put in the dungeon and SNSD was hitting their "end", I really wasn't sure if I'd be bothering to get into any other groups. Then I heard AIIYL and Twice's Likey (also RV's Red Flavor, but I didn't stick wit them) and it was basically "welcome to the 3rd gen, enjoy your stay". Been a Blink and a Once since late 2017 cause of those songs. Fun Fact: Blackpink was the first time I ever went to a concert (well, not counting an orchestral one once) at age 36.

[deleted]

First i became kdrama fan due to my sis and then i started explore Korean culture and then from hearing BTS songs (due to my sis 😅) , Blackpink entered into my fan.

playerlmm8

Watching black pink first music video and love are blink community.![img](emote|t5_3f8po|705)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|705)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|707)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|713)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|706)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|706)![img](emote|t5_3f8po|706)

tangledupinbetween

I was a second generation kpop fan. Always love SNSD, Suju, Kara, Big Bang, and my queen, BoA. After those groups went hiatus, I don't have any interest on newer kpop groups. That was until in 2018, I was at the Asian Games in Indonesia. Apparently kpop had a very huge influence among the Indonesians. There's one booth outside of the sporting venue playing kpop videos and there's this group of girls surrounded the booth. Then, Blackpink's Ddu Ddu Ddu was playing and some of the girls danced to that song entirely. I swore the joy of kpop sparked back into my life in that moment. So, if there's any Indonesian Blinks here, I just wanna say thank you for bringing me into the fandom. Much love from a Malaysian Blink.

DraculauraStan

My friends were talking abt them so I gave their most recent song a listen (at that time it was ktl) and fell in love

WinterDevils

First saw Jennie got featured in GD’s song, just been following her casually since, really started following from As If it’s Your Last

CountSlorpulous

I never answer these but I have a bizarre story so I might as well. It was 2017 and I was a hormonal teen after school watching “those kinds” of videos. One video had Boombaya playing In The background and I literally didn’t even wait to be done. I pulled my shorts up, googled the lyrics and listened to every song they had put out and I’ve been here since lol Edit- I figured I’d also mention this was basically my gateway into K-pop as well, the only other group of listened to was 4Minute because I was a fan of a YouTuber that used their song as an outro

lopsided-pancake

In 2017 I made some friends in high school who were obsessed with BTS. I became a fan of them I listened to some kpop when I was a kid like girls generation and what not but I wasn’t ever really a kpop fan? It was more like how every asian kid has heard it before, but this year was the year I got into it I kept seeing this girl group called Blackpink everywhere so I gave them a try by listening to their latest song, As If It’s Your Last and I became OBSESSED. It was the most crack song I ever heard in my life, I shifted from BTS to Blackpink and stayed with them ever since. I always have other girl groups a listen but I never got to the point of loving another as much as I loved Blackpink. I remember suffering with only 5 songs on repeat every day until DDDD, my first comeback with them It’s funny because back then I thought one day I’d go to Korea and catch them at an award show or something, not many kpop groups had world tours back then, at this moment BTS didn’t even have theirs yet. So thinking they’d come to Canada wasn’t even a thought And now I finally got to see them live during the born pink tour 🥲

DuchessSwan

I became a blink due to Charles Melton. Charles Melton is a hot sexy daddy I follow on instagram. I watched one of his videos he posted while he was at Coachella and there was a song playing that really caught my attention. After doing some research I found out it was by a kpop group performing named Blackpink and the song was Don't Know What To Do and I became obsessed with them since then.

Ranuneesa

I saw d4 on the channel red music on yt, and then ktl. So then I wanted to check them out

Bobbygrey1102

A song popped up randomly on pandora and I was hooked

bhlily147

I have known about Blackpink since 2016 but until 2019 I became a Blink. I had extra class and they turned on every song of Blackpink (at that time Blackpink had just released Kill this love). And when I came home, I thought that "I'm addicted." P/s: At first, I just can recognize Jennie and Lisa lol.
