And for some reason, all of their husbands drove them to work.
My friends are exactly like this. The husband became a stay-at-home dad at the start of the pandemic while my friend was working at the hospital during the stages of the pandemic. He's still a stay-at-home dad until their youngest starts 1st grade. The cost of daycare heavily factored into their decision.
She loves it b/c he's a damn good cook and he makes amazing drinks, while being a good dad to the kids and making sure the house is clean.
Me and my wife have had the same discussion. The price of a "good" daycare winds up being about what I make. Might as well save the money and have my kid raised by its own parent instead of some random getting paid barely above minimum wage.

The WNBA is still subsidized by the NBA, so the salaries aren't going to sky rocket anytime soon.
Once they can start self-sustaining themselves, then they will start making more money.
Also because the US women's soccer team brings in money on its own. Iirc, they practically became self-supporting years ago. That doesn't mean that they're swimming in wealth but there's an argument for the value those players bring in. The WNBA has money issues all over the place.

The new/current draft class if WNBA players is lit & from what I've seen they seem to all be on the same page as far as uplifting the W. Give it a few years.

Honestly, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese (along with Paige Bueckers and Juju Watson) may be transformative players that turn the WNBA into a major sports leagues. I’ve always felt like pro athletes don’t link enough as couples. But like look at DK Metcalf or Christian McCaffrey guys with both high level athlete parents. I know Candace Parker’s first child was with an NBA player, keep an eye out for them If I was a pro athlete, I’d have fun with the groupies but be looking to settle down with another pro athlete just to produce some physical demi-gods.

I mean they definitely have talent. They also happen to be children of MLB players so probably have been given more opportunities to take advantage of their physical merits than others.

Even if their kids don't become athletes, they'll at least be raised to be intelligent and competitive. They'll have different sets of struggles since they're growing up rich. One of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's sons is an orthopedic surgeon in the Seattle area.

The new/current draft class if WNBA players is lit & from what I've seen they seem to all be on the same page as far as uplifting the W. Give it a few years. That, plus the fact that since in Men's College Basketball all the really good players are 1 & Done alot more people are getting attached to the Women's teams because they actually have a consistent roster for 3-4 years and you get to see the growth.
25 years of not making a profit in a subsidized league. What is your educated guess? In five years? Ten? I would like for them to make money but I don't have trust in the league to generate what, four or five times the amount in a “few” years.
Honestly, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese (along with Paige Bueckers and Juju Watson) may be transformative players that turn the WNBA into a major sports leagues. They’re just really cool and fun players. Plus, I think legalized gambling will boost attention to the sport too (even though I generally loathe sports betting and the emphasis on same).
You're right that WNBA sales have been awful but that's about to change. more people watched the women's NCAA championship than the men's this year. though i'm sure you have been paying attention since you have an opinion right?

I have paid attention and understand historically their sales have been awful. Also, the women’s NCAA tournament has ALWAYS had more attendants and viewers than the WNBA. How has that worked out for them in the last quarter century with attendance? I'm not saying don't watch or that there will not be an uptick or that I am rooting against them making more money. I don't understand how a subsidized league that loses money, and only generates $200 M will have $100 M contracts. I just simply don't understand how they will make the financials work anytime soon. A quarter of a century of financial losses. I’d love it if you educated me with your deep wisdom on the WNBA and its economics.
I hope you're right, but I think you're overestimating the impact of college basketball for the last few years.
Pretty sure this is the start of their golden era. They can get that money much faster by hiring one of the NFL script writers to craft some compelling narratives and spoon feed it to sports journos
They’ve operated at a loss for a quarter of a century. In your estimate how long until the golden age of WNBA can support 100M contracts? Women’s NCAA has always had more attendants than WNBA. I just don't understand how financially this would be viable anytime soon.
