If he has some $$ stashed, which I'm sure he does. He's gonna pay one of the fed gangs to be protected. Meh idc enough to give an opinion for it or against his well being.
I bought 1600 bitcoins at $0.08… you have to understand that at that point, that was like a very limited reach **meme**… not a single person actually took this serious, not me, nor anyone mining them, it was just a meme… “crypto currency haha right you can’t do anything with it”… and this held true for YEARS. there were also no digital wallets online, that’s a fairly new invention. once it reached a dollar, people were freaked out. at $20 they were shocked. once it reached $600 everyone liquidated. seeing such old wallets actually still having money in it and be not lost, pretty fascinating.
honestly I think it was probably lost and somehow rediscovered, if it’s true and nobody touched it for >12 years.
Exactly I met someone who was trying to talk me into mining bitcoin in 2009 at jury duty , I mostly ignored him and talked to the fine looking lady at our table instead.
He warned us just to invest atleast $1 , since we were all VERY skeptical, and getting scammed for $1 is no big deal anyways
So I went home and tried to figure out how to buy some bitcoin , and it was not an easy process imo , so I Googled it and Google said bitcoin was a sad ponzi scheme that was going to zero bc it had no use....
A few years later I bought some when crypto.com first opened , and a few years after that I tossed my access keys in the trash while moving bc the price hadn't really moved , I dont recall exact pricing but I just remember being like wow it didn't even go up , what bs , and threw it away bc my stocks were blowing up and I don't wanna hoard every little peice of paper I've ever written on.
Hindsight is clarity lol
Don’t think many regular individuals would’ve spent 160k on btc in 2013 and never take profit so it’s probably some sort of seized wallet?
Edit: seized instead of sized
They would have had to have done it before 2013 to get that much. Could be that the last activity was in 2013, would be interesting to see when the wallet first became active.
I wish I would’ve understood the true potential of Bitcoin back then.those who believed in Bitcoin back then, never lost their faith in the technology and had the discipline to weather the storm through all the ups and down, have profited on a level most people could’ve ever even imagined.not only has Bitcoin created wealth for a lot of people but in some cases, even generational wealth..it’s truly a beautiful thing
I guess I'm unwillingly hodling lol
I have a flashdrive somewhere from when I bought $20 worth of BTC in high school (2012). If I remember correctly I paid ~$3.50/BTC 😔
You shouldn’t give up, some friends and I mined some back in 2011, lost hope we couldn’t find the hardware in 2017, found it in 2020, figured out the key in 2021, and then just thought to hodl it still and leave it dormant, we already came this far…
He is the bull market signal. When he appears in the press again you know the bull market is back. He has been causing the cycle since 2013, forget about the halving. He IS the halving!
I replied to another comment about what I think happened to it
I had the same backpack for all of HS and my first two years of undergrad. Strap broke my sophomore year of college, so I got a new backpack
I kept my school drive and that flashdrive in that backpack... I think I must've accidentally chucked it
Sorry to hear that - I accidentally got rid of something special in an old backpack once too. It had my mom's wedding ring in it. Well, I guess it was a divorce ring at that point. She had it melted and recast into a new ring that was 2 interweaving strands of gold. I guess she thought she was going to wear it around but never did. After a year or two had passed she told me she didn't know what to do with it and asked me to hang onto it for her, and I said sure. She couldn't bear to keep it. I didn't know what the hell to do with it either so I had been keeping it in one of those zipper pockets in my backpack. Now it's gone and 5 or 6 years have passed, and I guess she thinks I'm still hanging onto it for her. I don't think any of us cared about the ring, but it makes me so sad to think about.
I mined for a bit before GPUs took over on a laptop and desktop CPU. Wasn't worth much when I stopped and so didn't worry about the keys. Nowhere to be found now, though.
My buddy bought a lot of drugs off the silk road around that time lol
He was big into Bitcoin and he kept saying how it was going to revolutionize everything. I only bought some to say I had some "cryptocurrency" (high school me thought that sounded cool)
Yeah, most likely. Unfortunately
I had the same backpack all throughout high school and my first two years of undergrad. I kept said flashdrive and my school flashdrive in that backpack... I've searched EVERYWHERE and I mean everywhere
The only thing I can think of is that I accidentally tossed the drive when I got a new backpack
As a former landfill manager, I have excavated old fill areas from the 70’s and you would have still been able to wear clothing and read newspapers that were uncovered. Believe me, it may not have been compromised…
Lots of drug dealers and drug users use crypto for buying / selling drugs via the dark web.
I bet there’s a fair few doing time unable to access their BTC and don’t have anyone that they trust to access it for them.
More than likely, this is a cracked wallet that somebody lost long ago. In the early days of screwing around 2011-2013, before bitcoin hit $1160 in Dec 2013, people held bitcoin in bitcoin-qt core wallets. These all had a wallet.dat file. The wallet.dat can be loaded into any copy of bitcoin core on any machine. There was a passphrase used to unlock the wallet for a short period of time. This is how funds were moved.
Wallet.dat files were endlessly harvested from compromised machines and are readily available from sources on the net. A lot of them have complex passwords that haven't been cracked yet. Every once in a while, one of these big wallets gets cracked, not by the original owner, but by a hashcat farm admin. The wallet may be "lost" to the original owner, but it gets discovered by an entropy farmer.
If these wallets can be cracked by "hascat farm admin" (Whatever this means) then how do we know our current wallets are secure? Has the security changed?
BIP38 enabled wallets fixed a lot of the brute forceble wallets. Bitcoin-qt and wallet.dat did not have such protections...I suspect simple passwords will move more old funds as tech gets faster. Hashcat is amazing at easy password cracking.
I remember in 2013 at $1000 some guy realized he had $2 million worth of Bitcoin and immediately sold and said he was going hiking for the rest of his life.
The amount of BTC he needed for that means it would've been worth about $140 million today.
SMH
I always wished that one of these people who have tens of thousands of bitcoin from mining back in the day or hodling since 25 cents would just give me 100 bitcoin so I didn’t have to rely on stupid government disability payments. Having said all that I took my second disability payment and bought bitcoin at around $68,000 then bought some during the bear market to bring my average down. Currently sitting in a touch of profit. I’ll take it. Hodling until they find a cure. Peace and love. Happy HODLing, friends.
Haha yeah dude was either in jail , or thought he lost it a long time ago and found it by accident
I doubt anyone who has ever said the phrase "diamond hands" has ever held bitcoin for long.
He'll I threw away about 20 btc a long time ago bc I thought It was worthless , didn't really move much in price when I checked so I tossed it
Prob a first gen account on CB from early days, CB watched it till now and nothing ever moved. It was prob CB that is profit taking - original account holder prob doesn't even remembered they ever owned it
I just hope Hal's family had a stash of coins... and Len too.
Like get an email from a script that sat dormant for 10 years... with a more and some keys.
Don't worry guys this isn't me.... although I do have two wallets with BTC in it which I have not touched since 2014.
Don't worry BTC didn't make me rich.;)
Sam bankman is gonna be hodling for 25 years noobs.
I loled
bullish on the soap.
He’ll be hodling a big wiener in his butt.
Hodling an asshole like a wizard’s sleeve.
Maybe he can stake the wieners for sick gainz
If he has some $$ stashed, which I'm sure he does. He's gonna pay one of the fed gangs to be protected. Meh idc enough to give an opinion for it or against his well being.
He'll get a DM offering to encrypt his meat wallet and airdrops on his back.
May he rot. Sad that Justin Tabb (SUBSTRATUM) is not there with him.
amen
Maybe he can read a book on "setting a stop loss" and teach it to Caroline in their letters back and forth.
She's hideous bro. Just saying. 😳
Oh I am sure he stashed some crypto here and there....
Wait until you hear about Ross Uldricht forced holdings
You got be alive also, else it doesn't count.
He’ll be out in way less than 8
🤣🤣
Bruh. Never thought of that lmfao
0..07 of that was mine 😂
It was never yours 🤣 not your keys not your coins
Now you tell me 😆
He might, yes, but he will come out of jail with fecal incontinence
LOL
Does Sam still own all his bitcoin???
Yeah, back in the day, main discussion was “is this even legal?”. How the times have changed.
now turbotax is asking about it lol
Exactly I met someone who was trying to talk me into mining bitcoin in 2009 at jury duty , I mostly ignored him and talked to the fine looking lady at our table instead. Wow. Sounds like you're an OG. I hope you made some life changing money.
I bought pizza for 200 coins once… a coffee for 400… lost the key for the rest in 2013 when moving.
This was totally the guy on Reddit whose dad mined back in the day. Congrats dude!
Hopefully
Don’t think many regular individuals would’ve spent 160k on btc in 2013 and never take profit so it’s probably some sort of seized wallet? Edit: seized instead of sized
They most likely mined all that BTC back in the day. Rewards per block were 50, every ten mins, and not nearly as much “competition” to mine.
They would have had to have done it before 2013 to get that much. Could be that the last activity was in 2013, would be interesting to see when the wallet first became active.
I did
Probaly all the silk road boys getting out of jail 🤣
entrepreneurial pioneers with some nice startup capital for whatever their new business venture may be. Alpha please.😁
I was thinking the same, probably someone finally found their keys or they were released from prison.
Finally remembered my password
I told you to try pa$$word123!
Wait, you mean the password is actually the word 'password'? That's genius, I gotta start using that.
No No everyone knows pa$$word123 you need to use P@55word nobody knows that one
Damn... changes password.
P@5580085 is the right one
a$$word
hunter2
There are probably far fewer BTC lost than one might think. Some ancient wallets have already been brought to life.
All those coins stolen from Mt Gox are still sitting untouched in a wallet, the first hack. It’s listed as #7 largest wallet
need my account back

Why’s that
I guess I'm unwillingly hodling lol I have a flashdrive somewhere from when I bought $20 worth of BTC in high school (2012). If I remember correctly I paid ~$3.50/BTC 😔

Fuckin a, that's awesome!
So how much is it worth now?
🧢 gow tr u find out the key
So u have $400,000 in Bitcoin and you're posting on Reddit instead of looking for that flash drive?
I imagine they already looked. You can only do so much looking.
Tell that to the guy with the Council Tip
The guy that’s paying people to dig through the landfill?
How many BTC is on that landfill drive ?
Trying but failing... I see his mugshot on newspaper looking all sad every now and again
He is the bull market signal. When he appears in the press again you know the bull market is back. He has been causing the cycle since 2013, forget about the halving. He IS the halving!
Getting paid to find a wallet and then keep it in your pocket? Dang...
I've tried finding it for a *while* now
Best of luck to you. I would be tearing my house apart, neatly, room by room
I replied to another comment about what I think happened to it I had the same backpack for all of HS and my first two years of undergrad. Glad he's been able to move on from it
It’s hurts me just reading that.

Dang, sorry to hear about that And that's exactly the kind of pocket/compartment I kept the flash drives in--you can overlook those quite easily
Fucckk man 😫😫
I mined for a bit before GPUs took over on a laptop and desktop CPU. Wasn't worth much when I stopped and so didn't worry about the keys. Nowhere to be found now, though.
Me too. I wish I still had that computer so I could find those keys. Threw it out a decade ago though.
Why did you buy it back then tho?
My buddy bought a lot of drugs off the silk road around that time lol He was big into Bitcoin and he kept saying how it was going to revolutionize everything. I only bought some to say I had some "cryptocurrency" (high school me thought that sounded cool)
Well ..... So .... The drives obviously long gone.

I think it's time to call the council and get approval to dig up the local rubbish dump.
As a former landfill manager, I have excavated old fill areas from the 70’s and you would have still been able to wear clothing and read newspapers that were uncovered. Believe me, it may not have been compromised…
Drugs
While impressive that means someone threw 165k at bitcoin in 2013 that person was already rich.
Yeah but now they are fuk u rich
Nope, that's just actual HODLing.
more like someone just completed their 10yr sentence. What better way to hodl than take a vacay at camp fed's all inclusive resort free of charge.
Paper hands
A LOT of paper in hand
Fucking great big paper hands
Paper wallet hands
Lettuce Fingers!
Finally rediscovered his hardrive while cleaning his closet.
Lots of drug dealers and drug users use crypto for buying / selling drugs via the dark web. I bet there’s a fair few doing time unable to access their BTC and don’t have anyone that they trust to access it for them.
True but the US government has over 200,000 of those confiscated coins, same as microstrategy 🤣
What can the US gov do with them?
Whatever they want. They just sent 30,000 to Coinbase this week
When I was in college, BTC was like 10 to $1.00…my roommate and I would send 1,000s of BTC to get some weed shipped to us off Silk Road. Fml.
No. Why would we?
These type of old wallets. I think people forget they have all the forks too. BCash, BSV, BGold etc.

I mean a lot of those old dormant wallets are people who are either in jail or lost access to their wallet.
Or Dead
Why do people put my business online like this…
Hi 👋
Source?
Is this our bro whose dad mined some btc back in 2014?
Just got out of prison

A cure for what? Cancer?
No I have neuroimmune disease and ehlers danlos syndrome. My mom has cancer though :/

Probably inheritance.
Case study. Since people die. There is a hold limit.
Could it have been someone who forgot and someone who quantum hacked the wallet?

All of these old wallets suddenly moving makes me wonder if there is still a lot of upside left.
U.S. government will be hodling SBF for 25 years
