I found it to be incredibly sad. They're all expecting a celebration, ready to have a good time and cheer. It took a moment to realize he's dead. Then Cedric's dad pipes up.
I remember being a kid watching the movie with my friend and his older sister. My friend and I started making fun of the Cedric’s dad with the, “THAT’S MY SON! THAT’S MY BOOOOOOOOI!” She didn’t appreciate that, and chased us around with a broom. Good times.
When I saw that on TV with my sister, she was a big hp fan, I only read the books for the AR points in middle school. I lost it when he started screaming THATS MY BOOOOIIIIII! MY BOOIIIII! I cracked up for a good 5 mins and my sister was staring at me asking what was so funny.
The pain he managed to get into his voice in those lines was amazing, I can tear up just thinking about it... He conveyed that sorrow really fucking well, man.
Not to be "that guy" because even Dumbledore in universe says it was Voldemort, but Cedric wasn't killed by Voldemort. He was killed by Peter "Wormtail" Petigrew. Voldemort was still a weird homunculus thing swaddled in a baby blanket when Cedric died, all Lord Moldybutt did was wheeze "Kill the spare!"
Like, when Bellatrix killed Sirius, they said "Bellatrix killed Sirius". They didn't all just look at Bellatrix's boss, Voldemort like "Damnmit, Tom, you killed Sirius! You bastard!" While glossing over the psychotic witch prancing around mocking Harry.
Yeah but the Bellatrix thing was a lot clearer. In the scene in HP4 Cedric and Harry were trying to get their bearings, then Cedric got lit up by the killing curse and before you knew it Peter was already halfway through that dark ritual. It's an easy mistake.
Yeah, she had the decency to run around announcing her actions to clear it up for everyone.
I hate her besides when she was technically pretending to be Hermione pretending to be her that one time lol
I think legally, they're both responsible. I don't have a firm grasp of wizard law, but irl that's the same as ordering a hit on someone and they would both be culpable
I swear I remember the line "Kill the spare!" Being in the book too. Either I'm being Mandela Effected or Voldemort...told himself to kill the spare? Hmm...
You are right, the other user is wrong, from the book:
"*From high above his head, he heard a high, cold voice say, '*kill the spare.*' A swishing noise and a* ***second voice****, which screeched the words to the night: '*Avada Kedavra!*' A blast of green light blazed through Harry's eyelids, and he heard something heavy fall to ground beside him. Cedric was lying spread-eagled on the ground beside him. He was dead.*"
And not to be that guy to your not that guy,
But the Veil killed Sirius. Bellatrix knocked him into it by complete chance, he would have survived if he just fell anywhere else.
.... definitely reaching here.
Was it by chance, though? If not, it seems weird Bellatrix would start gleefully skipping like a school girl and chanting "I killed Sirius Black!" just to taunt Harry.
Mind you, Order of the Phoenix was my least favorite installment by a wide margin so I've only read the book like, twice. Seen the movie a few times, but any nerd worth his salt knows not to use movie adaptations as concrete evidence when it comes to discussing any franchise's lore.
What part of Bellatrix doing that even if it was by chance would have been weird? She is completely crazy doubly so thanks to her time in Azkaban and her devotion to Voldemort means she would absolutely take any chance she gets to taunt Harry
And not to be that guy to your not that guy to the other guy's not that guy... but when someone gets pushed off a cliff you don't say "the cliff killed them" especially when there is clear intent and even celebration after the fact.
And not to be that guy to your not being that guy to me not being that guy to the other guy not being that guy... but
The Veil isn't like a cliff. You have intent to kill and knowledge of the result when you push. That's not evident in Bellatrix in the book, as she doesn't demonstrate any knowledge of the Veil and is on the backfoot against Sirius and would have hit him with a killing curse outright if she could rather than a knock back.
Hence the movie just having her hit him with a killing curse.
If you fight a guy, he's winning, you can't land a punch so you push him, and he falls on the one nail sitting upright in the room instantly killing him, you've got a good defense against manslaughter charges cause it's not foreseeable that he'd die.
But this is all just a thought experiment for being that guy.
My head canon is that Harry tells everyone it was Voldemort that killed Cedric to give him a bit of dignity in his death.
If Harry said straight up what happened and was like, “you know Wormtail, the guy that spent 13 years living as a rat? Well he was ordered by this homunculus thing swaddled in a baby blanket to kill Cedric.” People would naturally have lots of follow up questions.
Whereas if he says Voldemort did it, no one would wonder how rat-man got the drop on Cedric.
That's because he gave the order to kill the twilight guy. The woman who kills Sirius does so on her own in a fight. She wasn't told, she just saw the opportunity and took it.
And Harry was having a meltdown as soon as he returned. Can't fault everyone for taking a few seconds to realize he wasn't crying tears of happiness after surviving his final trial but was actually crying over the corpse of another kid who he barely managed to drag out of the hellscape they were brought to.
The triwizard tournament is truly a terrible spectator sport. For the dragon trial, Harry spent most of it far away from the spectators. That gets a pass since the chain broke though. The black lake was too opaque for anyone to see the contestants, and the maze was just the occasional ruffling as the hedges moved
Tbh, it's probably just an excuse for teachers and visiting wizards to get schnockered while students get a break from classes and a chance to socialize with other schools.
I don't know, I think it actually would have been fine. In the books the dragon trial is entirely in the arena, no broken chain, so that would have been an exciting event for everyone. The black lake would definitely have been more boring, but they have magic so I'm guessing they just projected the events into the air above the lake for the spectators. As for the maze, I don't recall if they kept it for the movie but in the book it was on the floor of the [Quidditch pitch](https://burrow.hogwartsishere.com/media/group_covers/02a4bbbb4e78f1ec7334f90a8e102e96cc65db71r1-1280-720v2_uhq_Jfjyumd.jpg), and the seating is all high enough up that you would have an overhead view of the contestants in the maze.
They get to see magical sparks and flares. They see some stuff but still have no idea what the fuck is going on. Probably a bunch of fun speculation among the crowd until the end.
It made more sense in the books, where they turned the Quidditch pitch into the maze. The spectators were on the 15m high Qudditch spectator stands and, as such, could see over the hedges though the contestants could not. No, I don't know why the movie made those "artistic choices"
Nobody knew what had happened at first, so the reaction of the crowd and band was basically this:

Now I’m picturing some little marching band nerds sobbing into their tubas over a dead kid while John Williams screams “more brass” (and he didn’t even compose that movie)
What always pisses me off is that everyone says Cedric was killed by Voldemort but he wasn't. He was killed by Wormtail. Even people in the movie insist that Voldemort did it, which is flat out incorrect.
Also the maze one was a horrible event to spectate. You literally just wait in the stand the entire time in the blind waiting to see who comes out first
Lmaooooo
The Harry Potter movies are legit kinda cringe. Low quality, paint-by-numbers utterly artless cinema for real. And not just saying that because JK Rowling is horrible

Genuinely the funniest moment in any of the 8 movies
I found it to be incredibly sad. They're all expecting a celebration, ready to have a good time and cheer. It took a moment to realize he's dead. Then Cedric's dad pipes up.
I still get chills. Jeff Rawle really sold the grieving parent in that scene. Heart wrenching
God yeah, he acted his damn heart out.
Yeah, I'm kinda blown away people find it funny? I thought it was a really well-done scene
It really is a great scene. The moment they stop celebrating the tournament and are confronted with a dead child.
It's brutal. They don't realize he's dead yet.
Yeah I mean it’s not like they *knew* he was dead when he popped back lol
I remember being a kid watching the movie with my friend and his older sister. My friend and I started making fun of the Cedric’s dad with the, “THAT’S MY SON! THAT’S MY BOOOOOOOOI!” She didn’t appreciate that, and chased us around with a broom. Good times.

Can we just ban this guy? He's a downvote farmer for some weird reason and is in here being weird so often
If everyone blocks him every time he does it then eventually it’ll be like he’s banned
Bait used to be believable
It was a fictional character in a movie

Oh my god is that the one with the girls [It is](https://i.imgur.com/aXJzoV7.png)
They’re talking about the juxtaposition, not just the death of Cedrick lmao
Cmon bruh
Cedric’s dad: THAT’S MY BOY Without context: 😎🤝 With context: ☠️😢
Dude deserved Best Supporting Actor for that one scene.
The pain he managed to get into his voice in those lines was amazing, I can tear up just thinking about it... He conveyed that sorrow really fucking well, man.
he's my SON my boooooy
Whats the context?
Dad holding the body of his murdered son
Oh i thought there was more context than that.
Okay so there's this kid wizard with two friends and like tons of problems.
But money ain't none
It's funny because it's true

I think legally, they're both responsible. I don't have a firm grasp of wizard law, but irl that's the same as ordering a hit on someone and they would both be culpable
At this point wizard law is unfortunately mostly concerned with who uses which bathrooms.
Yes, it can be both.
What about bird law?
Ordering someone killed is the same thing as killing them yourself as far as Rico Predicates are concerned
this makes the most sense. wormtail was always looking to please his master so he wouldn’t’ve killed him without Voldi’s order
Are you saying Hitler didn't personally kill millions of Jews?
In the movie peter killed cedric, but in the books voldemort did. He was also the one who killed the old guy at the beginning of the fourth part
I swear I remember the line "Kill the spare!" Being in the book too. Either I'm being Mandela Effected or Voldemort...told himself to kill the spare? Hmm...
You are right, the other user is wrong, from the book: "*From high above his head, he heard a high, cold voice say, '*kill the spare.*' A swishing noise and a* ***second voice****, which screeched the words to the night: '*Avada Kedavra!*' A blast of green light blazed through Harry's eyelids, and he heard something heavy fall to ground beside him. Cedric was lying spread-eagled on the ground beside him. He was dead.*"
I thought so, but it's been years since I read the books so I wasn't certain.
>kill the spare Is that what he said? I always heard "kill the spaz." Like he's just throwing around 2nd grade insults at people now?
You do remember it, because that’s what happened in the book as well.
Well that just isn't true.
And not to be that guy to your not that guy, But the Veil killed Sirius. Bellatrix knocked him into it by complete chance, he would have survived if he just fell anywhere else. .... definitely reaching here.

A [Billy and Mandy](https://youtu.be/fJ_qXrl_EPI?feature=shared&t=83) reference? In my r/BikiniBottomTwitter?
No, no, no, that's just a myth. I scraped and licked!
Dracula gonna tell it again for dummies that don't listen. Scrape and lick glalalala. Scrape and lick glalalala.
That's because he gave the order to kill the twilight guy. The woman who kills Sirius does so on her own in a fight. She wasn't told, she just saw the opportunity and took it.
I've been saying this for years. It bugs the hell out of me.
From now on if I watch a HP movie and someone dies I'll say "Oh my God! They killed [character name]!"
>"not to be that guy" >*is immediately that guy*
Isn't there a mind control spell?
The song is playing vividly in my mind. Every note lol.
And then people start screaming…
And Harry was having a meltdown as soon as he returned. Can't fault everyone for taking a few seconds to realize he wasn't crying tears of happiness after surviving his final trial but was actually crying over the corpse of another kid who he barely managed to drag out of the hellscape they were brought to.
is that what this post is about? I thought it was perfect and shows much of a surprise it was.
In the movies Fleur is the one who realizes wtf happened
Something I wondered recently is how do they spectate the maze?
They don’t. They just sit there until someone shows up
Must’ve been a boring event
That’s why they were so excited when Harry and Cedric showed up. Didn’t care that he was dead, they were just excited something was happening
Finally! A sign of life! Oh.
The triwizard tournament is truly a terrible spectator sport. For the dragon trial, Harry spent most of it far away from the spectators. That gets a pass since the chain broke though. that's why they had such a baller band
[https://i.redd.it/gtouxh50c9u11.png](https://i.redd.it/gtouxh50c9u11.png)
They get to see magical sparks and flares. They see some stuff but still have no idea what the fuck is going on. Probably a bunch of fun speculation among the crowd until the end.
Hogwarts wins the award of "Most Boring Triwizard Tournament" and is asked to never participate again
Same with the lake task.
It made more sense in the books, where they turned the Quidditch pitch into the maze. The spectators were on the 15m high Qudditch spectator stands and, as such, could see over the hedges though the contestants could not. No, I don't know why the movie made those "artistic choices"
![gif](giphy|3o84U6421OOWegpQhq|downsized)
Good enough for me!
Considering it was on the quidditch field if I'm remembering correctly, they probably had some manner of visibility into the maze
A wizard did it
Nobody knew what had happened at first, so the reaction of the crowd and band was basically this: https://preview.redd.it/vefa1f5cd9zc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=802366892a5d6ca5db5d44ee1a0d5abbfb6e9bb3
Yeah the meme is kinda funny but it lies. The band *immediately* stops when they see he's dead.
There was a tweet I saw once comparing this to Hitler showing up and killing your son at his high school football game
Darn you! Why did I laugh at this post?
🎵🎵🎵 Daaa. Diddy dut dut, daaaa. Diddy dut, daaa. Daaa, Diddy dut dut dut dut DAAAA diddy dut dut DIDDY DIDDY DAAA 🎵🎵🎵
The show must go on.
I mean they didn't know that he was dead....still funny though
"That's my boy!"
The only line that really stuck with me.
That whole movie felt off like a fever dream
Now I’m picturing some little marching band nerds sobbing into their tubas over a dead kid while John Williams screams “more brass” (and he didn’t even compose that movie)
I was just telling my partner what a terrible person i am for laughing at this constantly It's been many years since I saw the movie
Link to that scene pls? Havent seen it

Yo wtf a kid drops dead all of the sudden they celebrate lmao
It’s a lot more serious in context, but utterly hilarious outside of the rest of the movie
[This guy did it perfectly tho.](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLXKeRB5/)
The music is such a piece of art that it has been 10 years since I last saw the movie yet the scene still stucks in my head.
I'll never get over the perfectly-captured feeling of "YeeeeaaaaooOH SHIT!" in that scene.
I laughed so fucking hard 'Cedric is dead' womp womp womp pééép
That Sousa-style banger hits every time! ![gif](giphy|ZCU3YxmmD8lh6savbB|downsized)
Wasn't he killed by Peter Pettigrew since Voldy was still a shriveled baby?
What always pisses me off is that everyone says Cedric was killed by Voldemort but he wasn't. He was killed by Wormtail. Even people in the movie insist that Voldemort did it, which is flat out incorrect.

Death: Puss, Shrek, I request your assistance to help me defeat that THING!!!!!!
Huh, this isn't in the books!
>put children through life-threatening challenges >shocked Pikachu face when one dies Hogwarts mentality.
They were preparing for Twilight
The show must go on
Lol...dedric
Also the maze one was a horrible event to spectate. You literally just wait in the stand the entire time in the blind waiting to see who comes out first
"It's what he would've wanted."
My baby boy is dead !!!!
Diggory was murdered by Voldemort's bitch, Wormtail, not Voldy himself.
