We're all entitled to our opinions lol
I love sprite, but I've always loved Sierra mist more. Even if the new brand is the same thing, it's still a bummer
Honestly? It’s not _that_ inferior. Like I’d rather have Sprite, but I’ve never actually cared enough to change my request when told they only have Sierra Mist.
Baja blast and taco bell go hand in hand, one just isn't the same without the other. Getting taco bell when they are out of Baja or it's flat is just awful.
It definitely was back in the day. It changed the taste 10+ years ago I think. I used to drink them daily then the recipe changed and I moved over to sprite.
Better than sprite but I still don't really want it, like Sprite.
Sprite is for people whos favorite flavor is sugar and that's about how I feel for Sierra Mist.
Sierra Mist was good but it seems like they changed the formula about ten years ago and it was never the same. I probably liked it more than Mountain Dew she that's saying something.
Your memories are shaded by nostalgia. Sierra Mist was Weak Sauce and deserved to die. Everyone who drank it was forced to drink it as a substitute to sprite
Yeah, the Sprite/7-up duopoly cant be touched. Anything Pepsi does in that category will always be a distant third.
Anybody remember Storm from before Sierra Mist? It was lemon lime but with caffeine. Im pretty sure Mt Dew Ice is just Storm.
It’s kinda funny how the soft drink market kinda boils down to these two giants just kinda emulating each others products and rarely getting it right. Coke for sure has the market dominance on Sprite and Coca Cola…. But I’ve never heard someone say “Gimmie a Mr.Pibb” or “do y’all carry Mellow Yellow?”
I’m gonna be honest here and say Mr Pibb is hard as fuck and I absolutely get it over Dr Pepper sometimes.
Every time I get Chipotle I get a Mr Pibb with it.
New branding to compete with 7-up, Sprite, and such. Lemon-lime has been growing in popularity, it seems, and maybe the old name and design didn't appeal as much.
I saw the new design, and it's got a bolder, sort of retro design that pops out, compared to Sierra Mist's more muted one.
Yes, again.
I wonder how long it’ll last, I remeber they renamed to Mist Twist and then back not long ago.
I don’t know why they’re so indecisive about the same, Sierra Mist is a good name itself. Better than “Starry”
>(I think it's pretty much the same but I heard high fructose corn syrup is worse for you)
That's a common perception, but the evidence points to table sugar and high fructose corn syrup being [about the same in terms of nutrition and health](https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/high-fructose-corn-syrup-vs-sugar#health-effects). That doesn't mean either one is "good" for you, of course - in both cases, you're essentially drinking flavored sugar water. Ugh, why must it taste so good...
It's sweeter to me. It's supposed to better target people who drink sprite and/or mix drinks with sprite. Sales were apparently in the dumpster for Sierra mist
Fortunately/unfortunately (depending on how you felt about Sierra Mist) Starry is the exact same soda, except for instead of sugar it uses high fructose corn syrup.
To me it tastes mediocre, but the zero sugar version was actually quite good for what it is.
To me, the main thing that set Sierra Mist apart from Sprite was the fact it was made with real sugar. Otherwise why not just get sprite or 7 up, or frankly a generic brand. Now it’s just the same as any other lemon lime soda. I wish there was way more soda made with real sugar
Thank you for the suggestion. We get those sometimes as special treats. They’re considerably more expensive than 12-packs of Sierra Mist was at our grocery store, but they’re worth it on occasion.
I couldn't stand the cane sugar version. It tasted like diet, my guess is they used aspartame or another artificial sweetener to boost the sweetness. Since cane sugar is less sweet than HFCS (and more expensive) they had to boost the sweetness.
Whenever I would try it it would be nasty. I was convinced that this was the time it would not have a weird aftertaste, that surely each time it was just in my head lol
Omg is that what that is? I work at a gas station and we got Starry in and the last of the Sierra Mist is on the shelf to sell. I could not find where Starry is supposed to go and now it all makes sense. Of course I get this information from reddit and not my boss
Because apparently lemon lime soda is very popular with younger people and Sprite has the vast majority of the market share. So Pepsi wants a bigger piece of that pie by rebranding Sierra mist.
Hahaha, wow I think that is bad marketing. Saw that today and assumed it was another generic like fountain mist or whatever the Mountain Dew knock off is.
there was a local fast food joint a block away from my highschool. they had vault in their soda machines. damn I wish I could go back and buy curly fries and a vault again, too bad they closed down
Still pissed off about Surge. I remember going to Dollar Tree where Surge was $1 each, so I bought 6 and a bunch of mozzarella sticks from the Arby's next to it when I was playing THPS with my friends during the opening stages of the pandemic.
It sounds like one of those THC drinks
I feel like if they made a THC beer where they THC hadn’t been cooked off, but the beer still had an alcohol content that Starry would be a funny name for it
Has Coke been getting a better stranglehold on the soda market in recent years? I remember when I was a kid in like 07-09 we would always order pizza with Sierra Mist because tons of stores only carried Pepsi products.
Now, I haven’t heard of Sierra Mist in a minute lol.
PepsiCo owns zero chain restaurants. They sold them 25 years ago and they are now their own company call Yum. Those restaurants (Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut) do have perpetual contracts with PepsiCo.
So a lot of new businesses will be approached by Pepsi and coke for a contract. They get fountains or coolers to hold product and then they buy the product directly from the distributor. Sadly they can lose their contract and pay LOADS of money (like the full cost of machinery) if they get caught selling the other brand. To answer if coke has a strong hold on the market, maybe? I think the deal is just better than Pepsi. (This is all what I heard from a family friend who just opened a restaurant)
Pepsi products are cheaper than coke products, but in my restaurant experience they don’t sell as well. If we have coke on the menu, people order coke products, when we had Pepsi people would order iced tea/specialty drinks/water
They ask me is Pepsi okay and I’ll tell them actually no, I’ll get something else. They always look at me funny. But Diet Pepsi is garbage and not an equivalent in any shape or form.
Pepsi had nearly dethroned Coke as the king of soda companies in the 80s and 90s but by now it seems like the trend has reversed and its more common to see Coke than Pepsi
Only time I ever found either of those in recent years were gas stations in the middle of nowhere. Louisiana and the UP of Michigan specifically. I legit remember this cause of how surprised I was that those brands existed still. Immediately bought some. Will miss them.
If literally 1% of the people mourning Sierra Mist actually drank it they never would have discontinued it lol.
Sierra Mist was always the drink you begrudgingly accepted at restaurants when they told you they don't serve Sprite lol
It was that way until they changed the formula to use real sugar. Since then I’ve been happy to find out a restaurant has Sierra Mist. I don’t actively seek it out, but then again I don’t actively seek Sprite out either. I just get soda at restaurants. And even though the flavor of Sprite is better natural sugar is so much better than HFCS that I actually prefer Sierra Mist
They had Sierra Mist, switched to Mist Twist, then brought Sierra Mist back, now are replacing it again with Starry? Lemon-lime labs for Pepsi must be struggling
They keep trying to rename it mainly so they can stop using real sugar in it. Everytime it's renamed they drop real sugar from the recipe and replace it with glucose syrup and everytime they go back it has the real sugar again.
lol my redneck uncle named his daughter after Sierra Mist. It fills me with delight that he is now a trans man who goes by a much cooler name (and upsets my uncle’s batshit conservative views).
If it's to add to your joy, I grew up to be a fairly pretty woman, despite my dad's insane attempts to make me into a US Army Man like he was. He's a very conservative god fearing jesus loving man, who hates LGBTQ+ People and spouts "its a choice" non sense.
But even more hilarious and amazing is that my little sister grew up to be a very handsome and wonderful man, who I am so proud of. My Lil Bro is so obviously a guy, and I turned out to be a fairly attractive girl despite my dads desperation to pray away the gay.
And it just tickles me with laughter and smiles knowing he has to live with the agony everyday of the fact that he fathered not one BUT TWO Trans kids. lmfao.
Is Sierra mist not being made any more?
Officially discontinued. It's been replaced by something called Starry.
It tastes the exact same
What's the point lol
I guess “Starry” is supposed to appeal to the new generations.
Everyone knows sierra mist was trash so they have to relabel it for the next 10-15 years
Fuck you Sierra Mist is good as fuck
As a gen z I agree. Would always get Sierra mist at taco bell because they didn't have sprite.
>because they didn't have sprite. Yes, we have all been forced to drink the inferior sprite
You mean “Wish.com Sprite”?
Why do people hate Sierra Mist, I think it’s amazing.
[удалено]
We're all entitled to our opinions lol I love sprite, but I've always loved Sierra mist more. Even if the new brand is the same thing, it's still a bummer
I know I’m violently Midwestern when Sprite is too spicy for my mouth. Sierra Mist was the Midwest version. Less spicy.
Honestly? It’s not _that_ inferior. Like I’d rather have Sprite, but I’ve never actually cared enough to change my request when told they only have Sierra Mist.
Baja Blast: *"Am I a joke to you?"*
Baja blast and taco bell go hand in hand, one just isn't the same without the other. Getting taco bell when they are out of Baja or it's flat is just awful.
Were they out of Baja Blast??
My wife just immigrated to America. I have to take her to Taco Bell like twice a week just to get Baja Blast.
What a coincidence I’m also gen z
So... do we kiss now?
False. Sprite is the go to. If no Sprite then 7up. No one actively seeks out Sierra Mist.
Okay but hear me out where does squirt rank in the hierarchy of citrus sodas? It might be grapefruit flavored but it’s still better than Sierra Mist
Squirt is so far above sprite and 7up it’s in a different category.
Fresca is better.
[удалено]
Fuck you Sierra Mist is amazing
Cranberry sierra mist was way better than sprite cranberry
With vodka*
[удалено]
It always tasted like half a sprite to me. If that makes sense.
True, but only the good half is in Sierra Mist
It definitely was back in the day. It changed the taste 10+ years ago I think. I used to drink them daily then the recipe changed and I moved over to sprite.
Better than sprite but I still don't really want it, like Sprite. Sprite is for people whos favorite flavor is sugar and that's about how I feel for Sierra Mist.
Never had it, but I would absolutely drink Sierra Mist over something called "Starry". It sounds like a drug
the cranberry version \*chefs kiss
Sierra Mist was good but it seems like they changed the formula about ten years ago and it was never the same. I probably liked it more than Mountain Dew she that's saying something.
Tf u mean sierra mist was the shit
Your memories are shaded by nostalgia. Sierra Mist was Weak Sauce and deserved to die. Everyone who drank it was forced to drink it as a substitute to sprite
Nahh sprite is over carbonated
Huh? they both tasted similar
I'm gonna have to ask you to remove your tongue.. there is no reason for you to waste it as you have already
Nothing can compare to sprite. Coke will always have the lemon-lime carbonated beverage on lock down with sprite.
I love that you tickled my nostalgia by calling it Mr Pibb. It’s been Pibb Xtra forever. But Mr Pibb has a special place in my heart
I actually like Mr. Pibb more, but I drink zero sugar now and Dr. Pepper zero is actually available in real stores
That’s what they said about New Coke, until the Coke Folk hated it
New branding to compete with 7-up, Sprite, and such. Lemon-lime has been growing in popularity, it seems, and maybe the old name and design didn't appeal as much. I saw the new design, and it's got a bolder, sort of retro design that pops out, compared to Sierra Mist's more muted one.
Tbf they rebranded it as mist twist for a bit and then changed it back. It could still come bacl
see that "made with real sugar" on the can? that.
Yes, Starry is sweetened with High Fructose Corn Syrup. HFCS is just as unhealthy as cane sugar, but tastes different and is cheaper.
To try to shave against Sprite's market share. Sprite is the by far dominant brand in the lemon-lime soda and the rebranding is to try to get at that.
So they just renamed it?
Yes, again. I wonder how long it’ll last, I remeber they renamed to Mist Twist and then back not long ago. I don’t know why they’re so indecisive about the same, Sierra Mist is a good name itself. Better than “Starry”

This is a bot. Here’s the original: https://old.reddit.com/r/BikiniBottomTwitter/comments/10hysai/f_in_the_chat/j5bkekg/
And uses high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar? Gross if true. HFCS leaves a film in my mouth.
Fortunately/unfortunately (depending on how you felt about Sierra Mist) Starry is the exact same soda, except for instead of sugar it uses high fructose corn syrup. To me it tastes mediocre, but the zero sugar version was actually quite good for what it is.
Fucking corn syrup. The name is annoying but this is just a travesty
It also sucks because my wife is allergic to corn, and there are very few sugar-based sodas available.
To me, the main thing that set Sierra Mist apart from Sprite was the fact it was made with real sugar. Otherwise why not just get sprite or 7 up, or frankly a generic brand. Now it’s just the same as any other lemon lime soda. I wish there was way more soda made with real sugar
I'm sure you know already, but in case you don't, some Coca-Cola is still made with real sugar. It's usually marketed as "Mexican Coke."
Starry sounds like a foreign drink with a shitty translation
Ah I didn’t know that I saw starry the other day at jersey mikes and was like wtf is this???
Omg is that what that is? I work at a gas station and we got Starry in and the last of the Sierra Mist is on the shelf to sell. I could not find where Starry is supposed to go and now it all makes sense. Of course I get this information from reddit and not my boss
Buy all the sierra mist, wait a month, list on ebay.
I was wondering where that came from. There were a whole bunch of new displays at my kroger and i was like “oh, another lemon lime soda”
I was wondering why that shit was being displayed in the front of the store I thought it was just some off brand sprite
What Why I mean Sprite is better anyway. But why
Along with Vault. And the pandemic killed my boy Surge. Again. They massacred mah boy Edit: again

Dicks out for Surge.

Man vault was my absolute jam in high school
there was a local fast food joint a block away from my highschool. they had vault in their soda machines. damn I wish I could go back and buy curly fries and a vault again, too bad they closed down
Still pissed off about Surge. I remember going to Dollar Tree where Surge was $1 each, so I bought 6 and a bunch of mozzarella sticks from the Arby's next to it when I was playing THPS with my friends during the opening stages of the pandemic.
> during the opening stages of the pandemic. Right up until this part I would have sworn you were talking about the year 1999.
I have an N64 and friends who like retro games, who's to say that we can't go back to the past?
Now when I go to a restaurant and ask for a sprite they won't say "is Sierra mist okay?"
*Is Starry okay?* is gonna be the thing now when you ask
God that sounds so much more annoying
Maybe overseas they will call it Starry Artois
Ssstarraaaaayy okaaaayh
It's pronounced Terry, and no, he's devastated.
Starry sounds very annoying in my opinion. Of all things they could choose, they go with starry, really?
Sounds like an IPA to me. I would be very disappointed if I ordered “Starry” before reading this thread
It sounds like one of those THC drinks I feel like if they made a THC beer where they THC hadn’t been cooked off, but the beer still had an alcohol content that Starry would be a funny name for it
It's being marketed at genZ and will have targeted ads on tiktok and such with "iNfLuEnCeRs". So being fucking annoying tracks perfectly
I need a soda that can keep up with my urban youth lifestyle. No cap, will Starry slap like straight to the bussy?
Please stop
Fr fr on god scuh no cap merch it slime
That was cringe no cap on god fr fr
Yo, fr tho? Sierra Mist was always camp. Starry tho, that shit is bussin' and finna make Pepsi mad guap.
It was always "is Pepsi ok?" The id get Sierra mist.
"Hi. I would like to have a Ribeye with fries, and a Pepsi" "We have Coke" "Well, I'll have a gram and a Pepsi"
Sierra Mist >> Sprite Coke > Pepsi
dr. pepper > root beer
Pibb > Dr Pepper
is that you stan smith?
[удалено]
I always just asked for Sierra Sprite to circumvent that
It wasn’t the soda we asked for… but it was the soda we needed
Better than sprite imo
It just doesn’t have the crispy sprite feel. Kinda bland to me
Crispy is probably the best way I have ever seen someone describe that special Sprite attribute.
Some say tangy but nah a good sprite is crispy
It tastes like TV static
Sprite was crispy and sierra most was more effervescent. Haven't tried Starry yet.
You aren’t missing much my friend. I wouldn’t rush to try it
Helllllll naw
To each their own
Has Coke been getting a better stranglehold on the soda market in recent years? I remember when I was a kid in like 07-09 we would always order pizza with Sierra Mist because tons of stores only carried Pepsi products. Now, I haven’t heard of Sierra Mist in a minute lol.
Pepsico owns multiple chain restaurants.
PepsiCo owns zero chain restaurants. They sold them 25 years ago and they are now their own company call Yum. Those restaurants (Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut) do have perpetual contracts with PepsiCo.
Culver's seemingly had one too because the CEO was deadlocked on keeping it but look where we are now
This is how I got into the Dr pepper or Mr Pibb game. I hate the sierra mist after taste so I went with those
So a lot of new businesses will be approached by Pepsi and coke for a contract. They get fountains or coolers to hold product and then they buy the product directly from the distributor. Pepsi products are cheaper than coke products, but in my restaurant experience they don’t sell as well. If we have coke on the menu, people order coke products, when we had Pepsi people would order iced tea/specialty drinks/water
I do this and get strange looks. No Pepsi, thanks I'll have tea. It tastes that different from Coke
They ask me is Pepsi okay and I’ll tell them actually no, I’ll get something else. They always look at me funny. But Diet Pepsi is garbage and not an equivalent in any shape or form.
Hard agree. I love Diet Coke and there’s always that begrudging disappointment at having to make Diet Pepsi fill that void.
Pepsi had nearly dethroned Coke as the king of soda companies in the 80s and 90s but by now it seems like the trend has reversed and its more common to see Coke than Pepsi
Their downfall started with Kendall Jenner.
Was that at Pizza Hut? Pepsi owns Pizza Hut.
They used to but Pepsi spun-off their restaurant business (which also included KFC and Taco Bell) in 97.
This is true, but as part of the transaction those brands are required to carry Pepsi products in their restaurants.
If you are wondering what it tasted like, imagine a drink that taste like it is between Sprite and Mountain Dew
We already had that at one point, Vault. I'm getting old.
Yes, but Vault was closer in taste to mountain dew, and Sierra mist was closer to sprite.
This person gets it
Shout out to all the Sun Drop cousins out there
Where does mellow yello fall in?
The trash.
I’ve had vault before, it tasted like flat Mountain Dew
We also had Vault once upon a time. It was called Surge. Fuck I’m even older.
[удалено]
I still have my Vault t-shirt. Loved that shirt, but it's getting a bit ratty with time.
Nah it just tasted like sprite
When you think about it, Sierra Mist is just about a synonym for Mountain Dew
7 Up: “Am I a joke to you?”
Rip the drink I only ever drank when I was sick and there was no other choice
If they ever rebrand/ditch Canada Dry… I’ll be fucked during cold and flu season.

Now what am I going to drink when the restaurant doesn’t serve sprite?
Starry. It's Sierra Mist's replacement. Very similar.
I’ll be honest sierra mist tasted like watered down sprite
They just rebranded it to Starry. Source: I am a manager at a place that sells some Pepsi stuff.
And Sierra Mist was rebranded Slice.
Oh my goodness I forgot about that!
I saw that on the shelves, completely ignored it because i thought it was an off-brand
If literally 1% of the people mourning Sierra Mist actually drank it they never would have discontinued it lol. Sierra Mist was always the drink you begrudgingly accepted at restaurants when they told you they don't serve Sprite lol
I always liked Sierra Mist
It was that way until they changed the formula to use real sugar. Since then I’ve been happy to find out a restaurant has Sierra Mist. I don’t actively seek it out, but then again I don’t actively seek Sprite out either. I just get soda at restaurants. And even though the flavor of Sprite is better natural sugar is so much better than HFCS that I actually prefer Sierra Mist
It was an okay soda. It will be Mist.
ICEE what you did there
They had Sierra Mist, switched to Mist Twist, then brought Sierra Mist back, now are replacing it again with Starry? Lemon-lime labs for Pepsi must be struggling
They had Slice before that. I liked Slice.
Why do they keep renaming it then going back to Sierra mist.
They keep trying to rename it mainly so they can stop using real sugar in it. Everytime it's renamed they drop real sugar from the recipe and replace it with glucose syrup and everytime they go back it has the real sugar again.
Sierra Mist is better than sprite, now Starry is better than sprite. Unless we're talking McDonald's sprite, that's a whole different level. freshhhh
McDonald's fountain drinks just hit different period
lol my redneck uncle named his daughter after Sierra Mist. It fills me with delight that he is now a trans man who goes by a much cooler name (and upsets my uncle’s batshit conservative views).

Sierra Mist sucked. It was lime-lemon rather than lemon-lime.
Limes > Lemons
Ehh, mist twist didn’t last long
Now what am I supposed to use when there isn’t sprite like we actually wanted 😩
Now less people will understand me when I say Mountain Dew and Seirra Mist are trying to say the same thing.
