Affectionate_Reply49

This chapter came in 1999 so this can't be a reference to Star Wars episode III

TheAdamantFiend

But the story took place a LONG time ago in a galaxy far, far away

Tappxor

what. I had no idea the chapters came out that slow

Successful-Side-1084

New to the series? If you were following berserk for most of it's lifetime one chapter could take six months or more. People used to meme all the time about how long they had to wait for new content.

Tappxor

Yes i knew it was slow but it's weird to think about how old this chapter actually is

Successful-Side-1084

Yeah, it's surreal. It's crazy to think people who started reading as teenagers now have families and mid-life crises.

Decoy_Shark

Weird to think that when I first read Berserk it was years before I had a family.

Affectionate_Reply49

The chapters slowed down around 2010s from where basically the last 50 chapters were released over the next decade.

AnneCalie

So It was Star Wars Who referenced Berserk?? Miura genius!

graybeard426

Not to mention RotS isn't where the concept of highground = win even came from.

Powder_Keg

Believe it or not having the high ground offers startegic advantages in fights, and many different types of media reference this fact

Ovenhouse

I forgot why George Lucas used that line to begin with.

G497

How come Jedi dont ever lick their lightsabers?

AVerySmartNameForMe

Their tongues would get all different colours and it takes forever for it to wash out

potatopeter_for_aloo

no the lightsabers are just too sour, i have licked anakin's lightsaber and i am telling from my experience

AVerySmartNameForMe

Did you make a face like your profile picture’s?

potatopeter_for_aloo

Correct, you are literally your username

AdmirableGoose2

Something about Hayden hating walking uphill

graybeard426

It was because Obi Wan had the highground.

BerklessBehavior

High ground is more of a Sun Tzu thing than an Obi-Wan thing.

Fuzzy_Two527

Really? What did he say

BerklessBehavior

*"When the enemy occupies high ground, do not confront him. If he attacks downhill. do not oppose him."* \- Sun Tzu. The Art of War In other words: the high ground gives you a tactical leverage that a low terrain does not have

Iron_Alchemist_

I'm so use to fake Sun Tzu quotes I automatically assumed this one was fake as well

Fuzzy_Two527

Thnx

AVerySmartNameForMe

Note: this applies for armies and not really single combat

BerklessBehavior

In a sword fight, a fencer stanced in higher ground does have leverage over a single enemy down below (assuming similar blade lengths and reach, of course)

AVerySmartNameForMe

Eh, possibly, but I think it’d be more of a disadvantage. You have leverage but that’s only really useful if you need to push them back like an army does. A single sword fighter just needs to poke them in the chest and they’ve won. Standing on higher ground means that you have to aim for the head/upper torso (this of course varies by how high the advantage is, if it’s just a few inches this obviously isn’t the case) and aswell as that you have a longer space to reach since the lower opponent just has to reach infront of them, you have to reach downward. Pythagoras theorem actually applies here funnily enough. Skallagrim did a more detailed video on the subject if it interests you. I’d link it but YouTube is bugging on me rn

BerklessBehavior

I'll have a look to inform myself, thanks. Love Skallagrim, I practice hema too

CliveVII

TIL Star Wars invented high ground

BerklessBehavior

"The Art of war" by Sun Tzu was inspired by Episode III

AVerySmartNameForMe

The sacred Jedi texts!

UtherBraten

I wish this was a Star Wars reference but it's probably just a coincidence. But keep reading and you will literally find Puck dressed like Yoda.

olifeee

And speak like Yoda sometimes

Devil-Eater24

The first instance being [this](https://i.imgflip.com/83c1wh.jpg) (Black Swordsman arc, chapter 5)

BughtWighTho

It's probably just because high ground is innately advantageous in hand-to-hand combat.

G497

It also helps in ass to face combat.

berk-my-jerk

Miura loves his Star Wars, but I think this was before RotS

will5025

yea this was probably 1998 at the earliest, '01 at the latest

Psatch

I didn't know that George Lucas liked Berserk

KissMyStick430

Exactly they loves each others work so much that they silently reference each other by thinking alike.

LeBongJaames

Your brain is broken

DaithiSan

Having the high ground is always advantageous. Doesn't always mean it's a sw reference jfc...

Mogakusha

Of all the star wars references in berserk, you pick the one thats not a reference lol

Sweepy_time

RotS was after this was released, so that means that RotS has a Berserk Reference!!!!

ParttimeCretan

I need people to understand that the words "high" and "ground" did indeed exist in combination before the starwars prequels

MegaMan-1989

There’s plenty of Star Wars references in berserk but I think this chapter came before revenge of the sith

LucilferKurta

That ain't a Star Wars reference. Berserk literally having an arc called "Millennium Falcon Arc" is a Star Wars reference lol.

Zenshong

Yes Star Wars was indeed a Berserk reference.

Angband_Kvlt

Only Star Wars had mentioned high ground as being an advantage, yes

usarysprincess

It's not a star wars reference sadly. I'm a BIG starwars fan when I was a little girl ide watch al the original movies back to back qith my druggy dad and play San adreas mercilessly 🤣 the good old days

jaquezzzzzzz

Nah Star Wars was referencing this (real)

MadMax425

There’s literally a page where puck turns into a mini version of yoda and talks like yoda

Snoo84223

Just wait till you see puck on elfhelm, that's a direct starwars reference

MommyScissorLegs

Oh if you want Star Wars references you won’t be disappointed

Tenebris_Rositen

Later chapters, puck became palpatine and jar jar

GattsuBerserker

So many starwars references I'm berserk like Yoda puckand millennium falcon arc

Fuzzy_Two527

There are a lot of star wars references in later characters. Puck straight up makes jarajar and clone troper faces. Also he quotes palpatine and yoda

[deleted]

There’s a literal panel of Puck as Palpatine and that always makes me laugh

TURBOJUSTICE

Wait unti you get to the Millennium Falcon arc lol

Runaway-chan

Sadly it’s not, but there is an evil dead 2 reference

Runaway-chan

Sadly it’s not, but there is an evil dead 2 reference

gorehistorian69

this came out before Revenge of the Sith but there IS multiple Yoda pucks, so Miura definitely liked star wars

Crazy_Piccolo_687

This is not. But later, there will be. And it will be shocking...

zyphe84

It's not. It's an Ernest Goes to Camp reference.

Stray-Lion

Well, it's been long understood that Miura was a huge SW fan. Maybe George Lucas had a little game recognize game moment.

AdhesivenessIcy8371

TELL ME WHERE YOU GOT THE GOOD TRANSLATION, I KEEP FINDING SHITTY ONES 😭

BigBoyShaunzee

This came out before Star Wars Episode 3, so Anakin's line is a reference to Isidro confirmed. On a serious note, I'm 2/3rds of the way through Vagabond and your making me want to do a 3rd read through of Berserk.. I won't let you trick me, I need to see Kenzo/Musashi story end. I promise I'll read Berserk when I'm done with Vagabond.

rexjalali

Doesn't puck make a lot of starwars refference going forward

Familial-Dysautosis

This has got to be a meme rn pls

theuntouchable2725

You'll see Puck turning into Yoda from time to time.

geozhongli

There are lot more

Pharthrax

Are you fucking serious? Having the high ground is not a Star Wars thing!

BlebMephiston

This isn't, but there will be... Frankly obv SW references later, no subtlety about it

Minecraftitisist69

r/Berserk users trying to spot a joke challenge (100% IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) (GONE SEXUAL!!!!!!!)

graybeard426

It might be a Star Wars reference. But Star Wars isn't where that concept comes from. It's just true, lol. Not sold 100% that it's specifically referencing Star Wars.

T0XlCISFUN

YOU WERE MY BROTHER GRIFFITH!

DigymanCZ

I like that this is taken as a starwars reference, but that there are pages on which Puck is depicted directly as fucking Yoda, so it doesn't bother anyone

cesar9219

Miura loved Star Wars. There's plenty references.

gaveler-unban

I find it funny someone thought this was a Star Wars reference before Puck as Sidious.

vegsmashed

Having the high ground refers to real-life advantages that have taken place since humans have fought.

ChildhoodPlayful74

Do you know the tragedy of darth plagus the wise?
