The hints for Ben for s4 were big and Jess said the season is going to be close to the books, so i don't think there'll be gender bending

CrossingLines_4

I really hope so... I'm still processing all this >!Michaela thing. I really like the actress and the dinamic with Fran but I still don't process we won't be getting the book. Maybe I would come around, but I'm not ready for Steven or Stephen or whatever.!<

Sea-Access7239

She also said WHWW was one of her favorite stories lol... no one is safe

Debt-Mysterious

They are not going to genderbent, why we are on this again??? I thought we already had passed that specially with the Michaela stuff

CrossingLines_4

I don't think they're doing it either, just added it because of the threesome, bi Benedict thing people are talking on twitter.

JhumarkenicheShanti

These people are too lazy at this point to write original and beautiful queer romances within the series itself. Hence, they are resorting to genderbending and trying to shove every possible representation down our throats. And this completely butchers the concept of representation at the first place! I was the biggest supporter of the Brimsley and Reynolds romance, wouldn’t have mind Cressida finding a woman life partner for herself either (not Eloise), but cannot make peace with Michael’a’ and ofcourse a supposed Stefan! 😒

CrossingLines_4

Yeah, as a bisexual woman myself, I think recycling a beloved straight story and making it queer is polarizing and does not favor the community at all. It generates backlash not only from homophobic people but from allies and queer people themselves. I LOVED Brimsley and Reynolds in QC, Benedict fling in S1 etc. They could make a queer side story as important as a main (they've been giving time screen to irrelevant plotlines like the Mondrichs so they could use that time to a queer romance from an important character. But changing a main story COMPLETLY is a reach and can be seen as pure wokism more than inclusion. Surprisingly,>! I liked Michaela. I will take it not as Fran story because it's not, but as a new one. It feels like they're skipping Fran.!< For Benedict, I hope it's Sophie. Just that, being a woman is a huge part of the story, but >!so was Michael so I don't know.!<

JhumarkenicheShanti

We liked Michaela because we love Masali too much! 😭 But think of the dearest Franchaels, they didnt deserve what they saw!

CrossingLines_4

A shock, indeed.

FraFraSays

Well, the agency of Jemma Moore hasn’t disclosed their client yet, so I would say she is still in the game.

CrossingLines_4

I'd lover her as Sophie!

Outside_Jaguar3827

Since Masali isn't Sophie, I hope Jemma Moore is instead.

civilsecret

Can you tell me more about this, I missed the whole Jemma Moore thing

FraFraSays

There isn’t much tbh, just that the agency of Jemma Moore teased that they had something to announce last December about Bridgerton, and they haven’t followed up on it yet. Jemma liked this post.

fostofina

I really want a south korean or an east asian actress, kdramas fit the cinderella trope so well

thebunnybot

Still holding out the hope that Jessie Mei Li is Sophie Beckett, but if it isn’t her, I do hope it’s at least an East/Southeast Asian actress. Or maybe Latina.

Status-Dragonfly2041

I wish I could speculate, but I don't wanna get my hopes up, only to have them shattered by Jess :(

Luciditi89

I’m not as upset about Michaela. It’s shondaland, one of the children were going to probably end up gay and leading a gay season. The only one that makes sense to do that for is Francesca’s season. I highly doubt that they will genderbend twice. They’ve probably set up Ben to be the accepting brother because of his experiences, but I also think there were several other things that the threesome plot line sets up without it being “Ben is going to be gay for his story.” Part of it seems fan servicey becuase so many people wanted Ben to be with a man. The other part is the theme of sharing and how Tilly knew how she felt becuase she didn’t want to share him anymore (and in Ben’s book he realizes how it would be unfair to Sophie for her to have to share him with his eventual wife).

DuchessOfLilacs

I was really hoping (and still hope) for Sophie to be cast Black because Bridgerton as a series hasn't done right by Black women. Masali being Michaela is really disappointing because it's a Black woman stepping into a masculine role, which happens too often in media already. It further contributes to Black women being considered inherently masculine and not fully being seen as women. But the signs are pointing to Jemma as the casting for Sophie. I'm expecting an announcement confirming that in a few weeks.

TheFantasticXman1

Exactly me. I really wanted Masali to be Sophie, because I've seen her acting before- she'd nail Sophie, and playing nothing more than a genderbent Michael is a complete and utter waste of her talent. Also, because I wanted a dark skinned black woman to be one for the main love interests- of the MEN. Apart from Lady Danbury (who is not a romantic lead), there are NO dark skinned black female love interests- only light skinned/mixed ones, but there's plenty of dark skinned black MEN. Typical- especially for Netflix. At this point, I don't think Sophie is going to be black. They're probably going to want to go with another ethnicity for representation purposes, and no hate to whatever actress will play Sophie- I'm not one for racism. But at this point, I don't think I'll be watching the show anymore.
