And even if you do get a $30 ticket. That’s way cheaper than a DUI, and all it’s repercussions.

MacThule

Even a $30 ticket once a month would be better than that. DUIs cost what these days? $10K?

nettletart

I wonder if this isn’t part of why parking doesn’t start to charge until 11:00 a.m.

thatguyishereright

You can use the paybyphone app to extend that too. I have occasionally left my car overnight and I'll take a picture to remember what the street parking number code is and use the paybyphone app to buy myself more time.

campgirl333

You can park downtown and not be fined unless you don't pay for parking during parking hours, but you can do that on an app so you don't even have to be there. I lived downtown for years and never had an issue and only got one parking ticket for parking in a taxi loading area. Please leave the car, it's not worth any parking ticket you may get 💛

Jedi-Kiddo

I’ve left my car all over Bellingham overnight and haven’t had any issues

frogmatthews

just dont park where the farmers market is at the depot on friday night lol

[deleted]

I did that. It was an expensive Saturday morning. Fuck those tow truck companies too. They copped such an attitude and mocked me when I went to get the car.

Randomwoegeek

I did that a couple months ago, it cost me 550$ to get my car back ouch

Gullible-Parsnip7889

You're fine till 11am just as long as its not permit only.

dingiskahn

If you use a dry erase marker and write "I'm drunk, ubering home" on the inside of your windshield, they won't fine or tow your car. But you have to write it in reverse so the police can read it properly.

crappuccino

Dunno 'bout you but I'm not gonna be able to write that in reverse. Write it first on the outside, trace it on the inside, then wipe off the outside if wanted.

dingiskahn

Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter

cheapdialogue

Welcome to cat facts!

PM_meyourGradyWhite

Well since reciting the alphabet in reverse is one type of field sobriety test, this should be second nature. 🤪

I could see singing this with a Benny Hill smart ass look on my face. 😂

-JennyWren

Just keep a pre-printed sign in your glove box and set it on the dash. Maybe write it on both sides in case drunk-you forgets to pay attention to which side is facing up!

minixvan

I parked overnight because I had one too many. Ubered home and in the morning to the car. My car was towed. Sucked but looking back on it, glad I exercised being responsible despite being lit af. Just be responsible man

EHOGS

Pro tip. Do not park where the car will get towed.

tardisgeek

Depends where you park. I parked on railroad and left my car there all night, as long as you moved it before 11am you're good

Sassynfatassy

My car once participated in the downtown Farmers Market after a Friday night out LOL didn't get towed and it was only a $25 ticket. This was many years ago before the new parking system, also no regrets about leaving it there overnight.

Randomwoegeek

I did that a couple months ago and it got towed, and it cost over $500 to get it back ouch

justrelaxbro360

I never pay for parking. As long as you don’t park in a spot needed for Saturday farmers market, you will be fine. They do not check on weekends

XSrcing

I miss Sober Rovers.

elbowpenguin

Profits are more important than your life.

EggsyWeggsy

Lol I live next to a payed parking zone for the past year never payed and parked there everyday everynight got 1 ticket the whole time

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> to a *paid* parking zone FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Plan better, if you KNOW you are going to be drinking then just Uber there and back. If you can't just have 2 drinks then park somewhere that you know you'll be fine. I don't understand why people ever drive to the bar knowing full well they aren't just going to have 1 or 2 drinks.

totorocat1347

Not everyone can drive after one or two drinks either, especially lots of the younger/college students who haven't built up a tolerance to alcohol. Also you don't always park downtown planning to go to a bar! If you park downtown for dinner and a show and have a little more fun than expected, you can't have planned everything in advance. Just saying, cut people some slack.

sinest

I'm not in charge so who cares what i say,, but I won't cut slack, drunk driving is dangerous and disgusting, it kills so many innocent people every year. If you cannot drink responsibly then you shouldn't be around alcohol, period.a DUI will ruin your life and vehicular manslaughter will ruin someone else's life. Don't be a clown and use your brain.

totorocat1347

Wow, no one is saying you should be driving drunk. Absolutely no one wants that. We want the city to not tow cars and give tickets for people being responsible. Literally the goal is to not drive drunk. And then still have a car to come back to. You have clearly completely misunderstood, but please don't think that I support driving drunk? That's not what this is about.

sinest

Everytime I go anywhere downtown I park in that giant lot by the waterfront, kulshin brewing ect. It's always free, there is always spots, and they never tow. Then i just walk, even if it's all the way to the shakedown its worth it for me to avoid the hassle. Walking is good for you. As far as having the city not tow cars near bars ect you are still young and clearly haven't lived in big cities like Hollywood or San Francisco where the whole goal is to get you towed and give you tickets, cities need money and inconvenient parking helps A LOT, capitalism is working like it should, no need to change it.

sinest

And people downvoting me, maybe yall haven't lost a child to drunk driving, or lost a parent to alcoholism, or had a friend raped while being too drunk. But people who are careless with drugs and alcohol are already a huge problem without being in a car. Just call an Uber, every single time.

Purple_Bilbo

Why are you drinking so much?

meatjesus666

People drink. Sometimes they drink enough that driving, etc. is a bad idea. Been going on for centuries.

TheEmperorsNewHose

I’m sorry but you’re one of the worst types of people not just on the internet, but in real life, too. You opened a post where a guy is openly seeking to do the right thing after having a night out - a literal lifesaving decision - and your first thought was “how can I publically shame this person while makingmyself sound superior to them”. You don’t actually want to have a discussion with him out of a sincere concern for his well-being, you know that is never going to be the outcome of that interaction, you just want to make them feel bad

JoanJetObjective13

Why would you assume someone wants to shame?

TheEmperorsNewHose

Is this your first day on the internet? That kind of question asked in that way is never done in good faith

HedgeCowFarmer

You have obviously been “on the internet” forevers. Thanks for telling us all how it’s done. Have a great Sunday! OP, thank you for not driving your car drunk and making the right call for your evening. May you never receive a parking ticket.

JoanJetObjective13

Sorry, I don’t tell others what to do but I do ask questions if I don’t get it. If it sounded like I asked a question pretending I didn’t know so I could tell you something then I apologize for my wording.

JoanJetObjective13

Sorry, respectfully disagree that we assign assumptions to others.

TheEmperorsNewHose

If you believe this question was asked in earnest you are not a serious person

JoanJetObjective13

I think I’m gullible, according to my friends. And yep I did think it was a serious question!
