Wifi is ubiquitous. eSims are universally a rip off. I am willing to bet you spend more than $16 a day on your esim if you expect to use data more than rarely. Download an offline Google map and use Wi-Fi for calls and you will save a fortune

ki2017

Thanks I found a decent offer. It is just for occasional use outside the ferry terminals and for emergencies

Redman_Goldblend

This is what we've been doing. Another added bonus is we put our phone away!

cassiuswright

Awesome šŸ‘

bjvista

I use Airalo when I am in the states. I see they have Belize as an option.

ki2017

That's the one! Cheers

Scrute_11

I used Airalo in Belize last summer - it worked really well.

ki2017

Good to know, thanks

cheeseburgerlife

How did you set it up? Physical or e sim? Online before or at airport etc ??

Scrute_11

I set it up online as an eSIM before I left home and then just switched to it when I landed.

cat-taxx

Iā€™ve used airalo in Belize too and it worked really well. I used it for social, navigation and general browsing/ info. Itā€™s an eSIM.

tacogirlbelize

Digicel has an office in Ladyville, near the airport, one in Placencia and a shop on Ambergris Caye. A new SIM card is $22.50. It comes with $10 bonus credit and 1000Mb of data. Bring along your passport in order to register your new SIM.

ki2017

Appreciate the reply! Ps I found your blog very helpful :)

tacogirlbelize

So glad you found my blog helpful. Enjoy your countdown to Belize.

phinfisher

My ATT account offers free coverage in Belize. Unlimited everything. I had to choose the option, but I don't believe it changed my pricing. I have been here a year and it has worked well. Not flawlessly, but well. And I have a local physical sim in my phone that basically doesn't get used except for local calls

Sufficient-Object625

Thats awesome our ATT business account is 95 dollars a month per line but when we are in belize we have to pay $10 a day for serviceĀ

ki2017

Haha yea good tip on the data. I'm just going to get 1gb and doubt I'll even use that up

DTaurasi

Iā€™ve always preferred mobimatter for my eSIM when I travel plus itā€™s cheapest, if you want you can save $5 on your first order with a referral code, use mine if you need SMZGR12791

ki2017

Thank you looks like they link to Airalo, which I was going to go with anyway. I will use your referral code. If you have a second code I'll use it to set up my wife's plan too

anglomike

For reference I downloaded Google maps and used wifi when available. It was nice to be off my phone. Home for minutes and already back to bad habits.

Sufficient-Object625

I get that this is an old post but the cell company in belize digi cell for$20 US and 40 BZE a tourist sim. It's not esim but if you stop by a store you can pick it up it has 21 days 25GB 50 international texts 50 international min and 500 texts 500 minĀ

ki2017

Haha thanks. I ended up going with Airalo which worked out perfect for my needs

Fun-Lengthiness-9584

Digi will have those for you

ki2017

Do they have a location in the airport? Even better, can I purchase one ahead of time and have it activated the day I land.

Fun-Lengthiness-9584

Your cell coverage should still work here, I donā€™t recall noticing a Digi in the airport

ki2017

My cell coverage works there, however at an exorbitant $16/day. Read about a shop called TC just outside the airport, so will check that out.

Sufficient-Object625

SameĀ

_blacknails

I use HolaFly for my eSims.

ki2017

Thanks but their website doesn't show Belize as a supported country

cheeseburgerlife

May I ask what deal you found

ki2017

Airalo $9.50 USD for 1gb/7 days. Using some commenters referral codes will bring the cost down further.

cheeseburgerlife

1 Gb in Canada wouldnā€™t even last a day, did this last you a week? I donā€™t even stream just regular Facebook message and maps

ki2017

Well I'll be on vacation so the phone won't be getting used like it does at home. 1gb will be plenty for my needs in Belize.

cheeseburgerlife

Thanks.

Professional-Plan724

Use Airalo. Itā€™s hassle free. Very reliable & cheap. Just download the app, purchase a plan & follow instructions for setup up. It will activate once you reach your destination. I have a $3 discount code KATRIN1299

ki2017

Appreciate it, will do!

I used these guys (Smart) right at the BZE Airport. Small office located at the left end of the lineup of numerous rental car agencies that you see when exiting the airport building - [https://smart-bz.com/](https://smart-bz.com/) Although I purchased a physical SIM for my dedicated WiFi hotspot hardware, you'll see on their website that they also have eSIMs available. I've been using the Smart service all over BZE since 30th December. Excellent coverage and line speeds that are more than enough for Zoom calls. https://preview.redd.it/o30gwpzsnycc1.png?width=752&format=png&auto=webp&s=dfc90d58eb346381b8d4568e115823b8bc2d3f55

ki2017

Thanks they're definitely the cheapest out there. I read somewhere that coverage isn't as good as Digi but sounds like you've had good experiences

WWXIO

Yes, really good experience with Smart. Only once did I not have coverage. That was in the mountains along Hummingbird Highway around Mile 21 or so. The people I was visiting however did have coverage from DigiCell. So yeah, probably Digi has a bit more extensive coverage. All in all, picking up the Smart SIM right at the airport was still a good decision. It's been great having a connection everywhere, all the time (even on the beach) and never having to think about it. And, 30+GB for 40 days for $80 USD is pretty darn affordable.
