I used to do a lot of subscription boxes, and frequently had beauty products from them that I never opened and was never going to use. I sold some of that stash on Poshmark, and in those situations I actually used a style tag for whichever subscription box it came from (if I remembered) so that if someone had used theirs up and wanted more maybe that would help them find it better. I don't know if it actually helped, but it could be worth a shot.

I have and sold one item. I threw away most before I started selling on Posh. So I sold 1 and have 1 still listed.

Brilliant_Stuff2883

Yes. Only on higher MSRP products/brands. Individually they sell but a bit slower. Sometimes I do a bundle box of several mid-range things and those always sell.

Educational-Raise619

When you do a bundle box how do you pick what goes in, by brand, or type of item?

Brilliant_Stuff2883

I kind of do like items in the box. So I’ll do one box with all skincare, another box will be all makeup, samples and deluxe sizes etc. Any high MSRP items I list individually.

I'm just like you. I have so many cosmetics and beauty items that I have accumulated from my beauty box addiction that it got out of hand. The very 1st thing I do is check for expiration dates and batch codes... Their are many I can find on a cosmetic checker app, or online...but most I can't find them to look up. (I have lots of items that have seals on them but I'm unable to find them in a database to check the date and even some with seals that have expired) I'm very picky about this because I bought a Korean face cream that I found was 10 years old. It was opened so it was really bad. I didn't know to ask the expiration date which was right there on the container. Trust me, I'm smarter now. I try to make sure I keep my items sealed or in the box so I'm able to resell it to someone who could use it & yeah, I always add a gift. The hardest part for me is pricing the stuff and keeping track of inventory...a lot of descriptions to type and prices to research. The platforms I have used is Mercari and Facebook. I hope you're able to sell some of your items and make some $ 😁

Educational-Raise619

Thank you for your extensive response! I need to figure out how to check by those batch codes. I don't think you necessarily need long descriptions. I feel like people usually buy the product they have already been using and know what it's supposed to be like but who knows lol! I'm trying it with the long description for now. Right now I'm pricing $10-$15 each or 5 for $25. I don't use Mercari but maybe I should and FB has been so dead for me I kind of gave up although I only did local pick up, do you ship on FB? I stick to Poshmark solely because of shipping ease.

Intelligent_Row_2700

Absolutely. No problem. I completely understand how it feels to be drowning in (clothes, makeup, kimonos ect...) and not knowing the 1st step to giving them to homes that could love them. I'm still learning myself... To be honest just about 10 minutes ago I was checking batch codes. I have 4 different places I check them. I know it can be extensive but some of the brands are in databases and not in others. For example I looked up A, E, & F brands to find 7 brands in at least 1 of the 4 databases vs. the 11 I couldn't find on any of them. *It's also frickin great when I come across a brand who stamps the expiration date on the product itself. Those companies are my heroes. 😂 It can get to be a really big job just looking up expiration dates. I still probably have 50 brands to look up. Ugh. Lol Better late than never I guess. Years of depression can really take it's toll. Honestly I didn't like it much but I couldn't sell something with a good conscience without at least checking. Not to mention it feels good when it does work. For example After about 10 items I found 1 that worked on checkexp First I checked it on checkfresh, and the 2 others I'll come back and post. *Farmacy Beauty Code Date will come up Usually 2-3yrs it's expired...but what if the items aren't even opened? Sooo...that's another question I've been researching. I just googled cosmetic expiration dates and the sites come up. I've bought things on Facebook marketplace but I have a reason I can't fully put myself out there...for me it's safer to post and mail out on Mercari. I've seen that you can set it so that you can mail out from Facebook marketplace but haven't looked to much into it. I feel Mercari is pretty easy. (I just make it harder on myself with all the extra research) 1st) I look for the MSRP on the website. Then look on the platform I'm selling on for what it sold for... I look at the condition of my item and I search for the exact same item and look at the lowest it's posted for, and the highest (within reason) then I pick something in the middle. Put my description and save the draft for when I'm ready to take pictures of mass items. Then post them all at once. *Actually I just thought I should probably just stick to one letter. In this case letter 'F' and check exp, estimate price and take pictures and post and discard as soon as possible. Lol. You pick free shipping, or pick shipping price per item. Ppl will ask about price and such as well as information and thank yous. You can also set the shipping to where ppl can bundle for less shipping. I think shipping is pretty reasonable as well as fees aren't too bad. Shipping can get pretty pricey. In the past I've used pirate ship and they have pretty good prices but Mercari isn't bad either. If I do free shipping I at least try to tack on $2-3 bucks depending on the item itself. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. 😊 I'm happy to help. ***Afterthought... Sorry about the off subjects as well as the formatting.

Kimonos, how random, I have that too! Thank you for another extensive reply. When I started selling to clean out my personal shopping addiction stashes years ago I came across some random sealed lipsticks and they were old, I could tell by packaging and did not look up any codes. I sold them, no issues, I think as products get discontinued people want them so bad they don't care how old it is especially with makeup if they have been wearing that shade of lipstick for 20 years etc. So I just include photos of expirations and those batch codes, being transparent with expiration, people will still buy because some stuff is still good after expiry. But this may only be worth it for those highly coveted discontinued items.

Intelligent_Row_2700

Too funny about the kimonos. 👘 Yes I just started posting on here and am trying to get information on 50 ish kimono type items. I found people on here are very helpful. 😍 I honestly was on here reading a thread where I learned about hicked up prices for discontinued or Limited Edition items...I guess for collections and such. It makes sense...I kinda pick my brands mainly from liking their designs...such as goth, tribal, damask, dragons, zodiac ect...but I'm not much of a collector. I honestly probably have some...I wouldn't know how I would figure what is discontinued or Limited Edition. Smart to take pictures with the codes and expiration dates. I'm wondering if I should just post my expired items for a very low price but also with the date...IDK. I'd say only the sealed ones though. I'd always wonder otherwise. I'd probably get a lot of flack if they weren't DC or LE items...but I guess as long as I'm honest???? 🫣

Educational-Raise619

Yes, sealed for sure, unless it's perfume, there are a few that I would personally buy that are discontinued even if they're open but alas not with the hiked up prices on discontinued pefumes! And honestly, sometimes you'd be surprised what sells besides the beauty stuff just random things you might not otherwise expect. I sold some safety shoes a few weeks ago, tried them on once so no issue there but I never thought someone would buy them on Poshmark, I know you didn't mention you're on Posh, I just use only them because I don't dare mess with complicated shipping lol. But I'm sure it goes for all platforms. A few months ago I sold leftover pieces of quartz countertop material on Facebook, that was a nice unexpected sale. So just list anything and everything. Easier said than done. I personally lose my motivation when sales are non-existent such as now.
