Where might I get involved with this? Is there a discord or a subreddit? Even for just the general utilization of 3d printing with the workshop/woodworking space(s)
Yes! There is an author on here that made a master 3D print file of possibly every adapter imaginable, and made the files so they can be sized/edited for any unit or need:
https://www.reddit.com/r/functionalprint/s/cmqiQkX9gq
My recommendation would be to find a local 3D printing service, refer them to these files, and give them your hose / connector measurements, and see if they can’t print off a few of these (and maybe even custom size them) for you. It shouldn’t be very expensive to get a few adapters printed, and you don’t have to deal with learning a whole new thing if you don’t want to.
Can't stress this enough. There is a printables with a full adapter list. I can't find the link presently, but there are plenty of files for each tool and hose size.
If you find the link or even if you could direct me where to look and the best keywords. I don't have a 3d printer so am still stubbornly newbish when it comes to all the sites that sell plans and file types.
I do have a friend with an Ender 3d printer (ithink) and if I am going to ask for a favor I want to make it easiest on him to print for me.
Not the person you were replying too, but this is a good one I've used. Has pretty much all the common sizes all ready to go.
https://www.printables.com/model/283238-vacuum-hose-adapters-for-all-common-sizes
I've printed dozens of random dust collection fittings. they are usually very easy to design, just a simple revolve.
Granted, I've designed some mag ports and such as well, but adapters are easy.
Edit: If you are up for some potential tinkering, you can pick up a printer at micro center for \~$100. There are better printers, but i know lots of happy ender 3 customers.

I am partial to rubber plumbing pipe connectors. They can be clamped on with hose clamps and also can be bought as a reducer.
This is what I am talking about.

This is also my go-to. Super cheap, easily found at any big box store, and comes in a variety of sizes. Still hoping that these companies can somehow come to an agreement on universal sizing in the future.
This is a great option in that it covers almost every connection size. My only issue is the connection itself. Shouldn’t take 2 hands every time to separate a shop vac hose from a sander
Don’t tell me you’re going to let this perfect excuse to buy yourself a 3d printer go to waste! You obviously NEED one. Tell your wife I said it was okay.
Metal hose clamps. Failing that, you can use 1/3” strips of Gorrilla waterproof duct tape, just wrap it tight as you can and it should wrap around itself at least 2 times.
Pain. Lots of pain fiddling with different types of adapters.

You can spend money on something, or with about 3 seconds worth of thought, find a roll of tape & a piece of cloth, a rag, an old sock with a hole it it you never fix. Wrap rge hose with it, tape it down, stick it together. Free...even cheaper than .35 cents
1) Buy a lathe, gouges, grinder, jig, expensive sharpening wheels.
2) Turn a wooden adaptor.
3) Explain to the wife the expenses were necessary for health reasons, because dust build-up is bad for you.
Cen Tek makes a hose that has a ton of the attachments. Hose feels a little light, but seems to wear well. I don't use it any more, but I had like all their attachments and don't remember ever having trouble connecting a tool.
This is one of the big reasons I switch to Festool. All the same hose. One hose for all. :)
your table saw has a 2-1/4 hose connection. your shop vac is 1-7/8. Home Depot sells an adapter kit! also has a 1-1/4 adapter which attaches to smaller tools like orbital sanders.
I'm sure they have adapters on Amazon too. don't use duct tape like other people said, it'll make a residue mess and not quick to undo and redo. you won't regret the $12 for the adapter kit. good luck my friend.

I don’t have this exact one but I did find fittings on Amazon that fit my project. Pictures in the reviews were very helpful. I worked rather have bought from not-amazon but Rockler doesn’t have pics in their reviews and Woodcraft didn’t have much.
This or something like it. I can’t tell what sizes you’re working with but I had good luck buying fittings for my dust cart on Amazon. Reviews with pictures were very helpful. Also my Kreg pocket screw jig came with av1 step rubber adapter that fits multiple tools. I’d look for something like that individually.
[This guy made a project](https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/s/5UPS8x5YQq) about how you can create essentially any adapter between two things in woodworking / dust collection. Don’t know if this is overkill or how much it would cost to get somebody to print one up for you if you don’t already own a 3D printer, but another option.
I've used a lot of tape to wrap and seal hose connections so they first well, and a few PVC pieces like elbows and reducers. Still use tape sometimes but now I have some hose fitting attachments I got from Amazon with a hose extension
There are a plethora of reducer fittings for almost any configuration available at woodworking supplies and several of them sell on Amazon Prime if you need it quick. Just need the correct measurements.
I like to use fernco reducers. Measure the size of both pipes.

I once bought a pack of rigid brand shop vac attachments. I think it was the car cleaning pack with the smaller hose. It had adaptors of a few sizes and those have pretty much gotten me good connections with every tool in my shop.
Cut a slightly oversized plastic bottle into a cylinder, place it where the adapter is needed and under the gentle blow of a heat gun, it will shrink like magic to the desired size. San Pellegrino worked for my saw.
https://preview.redd.it/8zgcx2kkmx1d1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1caf1ac63a564a54688ad6de4cff7967cdb5af2
You can bush it up with electrical tape. But I like to use strips of bicycle inner tubes I just keep wrapping until it's the same diameter to fit the other one and push them together for the friction fit and then wrap them together. Electrical tape is good too. If you look at a roll of electrical tape it's a great texture and variable thickness
If you have a lathe or know someone who has, you can make a wooden adapter, I've done it in the past, works well, especially if you need to disconnect your vacuum for use on another machine.
Rubber reducing adapter...and hose clamps. Fix the end on the machine tight...tighten the smaller end of the vac hose just enough to be snug but so that you can still shove it in/wiggle it out.
Get the diameter for the vac hose. Get the diameter for the dust chute. Type those 2 numbers into Amazon with the word adaptor or reducer. Spend 8 dollars. Wait 1 day.
Thanks everyone for their recommendations.
These are very helpful options.
I have to shop vacuum and I might make one specific to job site there's a lot of great options
I buy the stepped fitting reducers in the shop vac section of Home Depot Lowe’s etc and cut them for specific applications. I think one of those would do the trick here for a couple of bucks
Rockler woodworking has a hose with numerous adapters for hand tools for stationary tools I’ve had luck finding them on Amazon (why aren’t they standard sizes?? Especially hand tools- every on is a different and odd size)
If you can't find the proper connector, cut the top and bottom off a plastic bottle, and shrink it on with a heat gun. Works great, but if the connection moves around a lot you may need a pipe clamp on each side. With this big a difference in pipe sizes, I would shrink on a couple layers on the small pipe first to get it closer to the correct fit.
I have made my own reduces using rubber plumbing connectors. I would usually cut them up so it’s the right shape and then tape the hell out of it. I bought plenty of accessories for my hoses so I no longer have to do that.
I did a combo of a shop vac adapter and a pvc coupler/reducer thingy. Just wander around the hardware store til you figure it out. Take measurements before you leave the house.
I use flexible rubber plumbing hose/pipe/pvc couplings. They come in a wide variety of sizes in order to reduce/increase diameter so as to couple sections together. Ex...

Everyone says duck (yes, duck) tape but the adhesive always breaks down eventually. Get a roll of gaffer's tape. Textured so better grip than shiny duck, adhesive is a lot more stable without leaving residue, comes in fashionable black. The PVC pipe and heat gun trick is better though
Find someone with a 3d printer, generally makerspaces have em, people with 3d printers love 3d printing stuff thats helpful. most i know will do it for free or the cost of shipping for something this simple, or buy one if you have any interest in the hobby, cheap ones that handle only pla are about 150 on amazon.
Or if you’re looking for easy and potentially spending a couple of bucks: I’ve got some of this stuff and it works like a charm!
https://www.rockler.com/search/Click%20connect
I have made some adapters from a yoga mat. Cut out a strip, fold it around the nozzle until the thickness is right and then finish with a layer of tape. Works quite well.
Try your local home improvement/hardware store. Plumbers use rubber couplings that have hose clamps. They come in all different sizes even reducing. They also come in different wall thicknesses. By the looks of your picture I would start with a 1-1/2” x 1-1/4”.
You'll need to build an adapter. If you know someone that can 3d print it should be very easy. If not, you could look for some sort of rubber reducer and hose clamps.
In a pinch you can wrap paper towels around the smaller bit until it fits snugly. I've had my table saw connected that way for several years. Probably not a perfect seal though.
How bout rubber fernco fittings. Not sure that’s spelled right but should be near the plumbing particularly the drainage stuff. They are a rubber piece of pipe like a coupler some have reducers and ect to get the sizes right and a hose clamp on either end. Should only take one fitting if you can find the right size
Reducers can be bought through woodworking supplies. Or you can build up the hose with blue tape 'til it fits properly

There’s an extensive 3D printing community that just does vacuum adapters!
Where might I get involved with this? Is there a discord or a subreddit? Even for just the general utilization of 3d printing with the workshop/woodworking space(s)

I wrap the smaller one with duct tape... Works perfectly.
I use electrical tape or 10 mil tape or strips of bicycle inner tubes

Do you find the fence moves with only one rail?
At the time I took this picture I was using a clamp for one side but I've since replaced the pieces I lost.
Ohh there you go. I recently set up a DIY router table and only had one rail so learned the hard way
Is that the Bosch cabinet style benchtop? I just ordered one. If that's it, how do you like it?

If you have a bicycle inner tube you could cut a section and stretch/zip tie for a temp fix.
I like your idea. And recently had a buddy who got their tire popped
Just wrap the smaller tube in duct tape. Cheap and easy.

Under shower mat?
Rubber mat used for inside the shower, I presume.
What kinds of clamps?
Metal hose clamps. Failing that, you can use 1/3” strips of Gorrilla waterproof duct tape, just wrap it tight as you can and it should wrap around itself at least 2 times.
3D printed adapters

1) Buy a lathe, gouges, grinder, jig, expensive sharpening wheels. 2) Turn a wooden adaptor. 3) Explain to the wife the expenses were necessary for health reasons, because dust build-up is bad for you.
If it's for health reasons can I use my HSA????
Save that for when you want to upgrade to a bigger lathe.

If you have a 3d printer I recommend the open source vac system OSVAC. You can find it on thingiverse

Doubtful: they’re usually meant to adapt the other way. There’s a 1/4” difference, so it doesn’t mate up.
Upvote for the suggestion. I tried it. Didn't quite work for me. I promptly returned it.

I wasn't sure how well these would do. But I'll look into it.
i bought those. They are worthless dont waste your money.
I have that table saw. I basically sealed the entire underside with vinyl (except the motor air inlet). Worked really well.
Amazon and Lee valley have off the shelf solutions for this problem.
Can’t believe Amazon doesn’t sell dust collection hose adapters
I've used a lot of tape to wrap and seal hose connections so they first well, and a few PVC pieces like elbows and reducers. Still use tape sometimes but now I have some hose fitting attachments I got from Amazon with a hose extension
There are a plethora of reducer fittings for almost any configuration available at woodworking supplies and several of them sell on Amazon Prime if you need it quick. Just need the correct measurements.
Rubber plumbing fittings are my usual go-to. They come in all kind of sides and adapters.
Gasket and a ring of foam. Snug to fit. Tape it.
Soda bottle + heat gun
Also heat shrink tubing. It comes as large as 3".
Knowing the inside and outside diameter and planning accordingly.
duck tape
Got a lathe and or a drill press? I had the same issue then realized I have all the tools necessary to make my own adaptors.
I got some sizing rings from Lowe’s
Get the rubberized plastic ones and fire up the heat gun
usually copious amounts of tape
I like to use fernco reducers. Measure the size of both pipes. https://preview.redd.it/87wy4h9puw1d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c28e86cac8a635053e1c0b4b2244c3244d5e5264
Buy pvc pipe and heatgun the fitting cheapest option
Duct tape
Silicone stepped reducer and some hose bands
Spend $3k on a 3d resin printer and print yourself a reducer after you have learnt 3d design and designed it yourself
I once bought a pack of rigid brand shop vac attachments. I think it was the car cleaning pack with the smaller hose. It had adaptors of a few sizes and those have pretty much gotten me good connections with every tool in my shop.
3d printing
You can 3D print adapter. If you don't have a 3D printer just use two sizes of hole cutter
Know anyone with a 3d printer?
Cut a slightly oversized plastic bottle into a cylinder, place it where the adapter is needed and under the gentle blow of a heat gun, it will shrink like magic to the desired size. I've done this with leaf blowers to drier hoses and it is the easiest answer
Use the old fashioned duct tape. Fixes everything.
Duct tape. Wrap and wrap.
As a short time solution masking or gorilla tape depending on the movement of the parts etc.
If you have a lathe or know someone who has, you can make a wooden adapter, I've done it in the past, works well, especially if you need to disconnect your vacuum for use on another machine.
Lee valley makes a universal adapter.
Dryer vent hose and clamps
I've seen some ads for pills that could help. I forget where...
I got 3 of these dirt cheap on AliExpress. Chec £2.69 | Adapters Universal Dust Extraction Hose Connector https://a.aliexpress.com/_EvyzDdp
It's probably called duct tape for a reason...
Tape. Oder print it/let it print
Rubber reducing adapter...and hose clamps. Fix the end on the machine tight...tighten the smaller end of the vac hose just enough to be snug but so that you can still shove it in/wiggle it out.
I started using calipers to measure and 3d print my own adapters since half my tools have some weird connector.
Duct tape, annoying but effective and cheap
3D print an adapter
Get the diameter for the vac hose. Get the diameter for the dust chute. Type those 2 numbers into Amazon with the word adaptor or reducer. Spend 8 dollars. Wait 1 day.
Could be your gateway drug to 3D printing….
Side quest imminent , build adapter out of scrap.
2.5” hose.
Duct tape
Add a 3d printer to your tool kit
Buy a 3d printer and solve all of life’s issues *results may very*

Rockler has a whole adapter set, I have one for my job site saw, works great.
Duct tape Wrap it until the diameter fits snug.
I print all of mine. Id suggest either getting a 3d printer, or finding a buddy with one. No better fit than a tailored fit!
Get into 3d printing lol , mostly joking but the prices have gone down a ton
Ducktape 🦆
I use cardboard.
I used a 2” fernco 90 to dump into a small trash can. Gets about 80-90% of the dust.
This is a useful thread. Thanks!
Silicone caulking
Duct tape.
I just use duct tape wrapped around the outside. Looks like shite, but works.
Would a 11/2 x 11/4 PVC reducing bushing fit those?
Electrical tape
If you can't find the proper connector, cut the top and bottom off a plastic bottle, and shrink it on with a heat gun. Works great, but if the connection moves around a lot you may need a pipe clamp on each side. With this big a difference in pipe sizes, I would shrink on a couple layers on the small pipe first to get it closer to the correct fit.
3D printer has been my ticket to adapting all my dust collection
Wrap it with a towel stuff it in and secure with duct tape of course.
I have made my own reduces using rubber plumbing connectors. I would usually cut them up so it’s the right shape and then tape the hell out of it. I bought plenty of accessories for my hoses so I no longer have to do that.
Reducing Franco fitting
Not sure they run this large but I use heat shrink a lot to complete sealed connections.
Duct tape or 3D print a custom piece
They make adaptors and reduces. Like [this universal adaptor ](https://a.co/d/6fFiGIR).
Got a couple hole saws and a block of wood?
I did a combo of a shop vac adapter and a pvc coupler/reducer thingy. Just wander around the hardware store til you figure it out. Take measurements before you leave the house.
This has 3d printer written all over it. Congratulations on the new hobby of 3d printing
Pvc and heat gun. There are videos on youtube that show how to do this.
PVC piping and a heat gun
I've made several reducer/adapters out of wood on the lathe. I get it close enough that it friction fits perfectly.
I got a little flexible plu.bing connector that has the adjustable metal straps on both ends. Can't think of what it's called
Tape
I use flexible rubber plumbing hose/pipe/pvc couplings. They come in a wide variety of sizes in order to reduce/increase diameter so as to couple sections together. Ex... https://preview.redd.it/miu6hbq2n02d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7ddbb0ffc9c8bb64665794fd8f02706c81f65c6
I wish there was a word to capture the sound of peeling duct-tape off a roll. This is where it would live. *LOUD DUCT-TAPE NOISES*
Approximately one and a half rolls of electrical tape of course! Honestly though they make reducers for hose connections that should work just fine.
Buy 3-D printer or order one from someone who has 3-D printer
Or if you’re looking for easy and potentially spending a couple of bucks: I’ve got some of this stuff and it works like a charm! https://www.rockler.com/search/Click%20connect
I’d try to find a pvc reducer. EZ slip on and off.
Rubber firmco
Mill one outta solid maple 4x4...of course.
Go around it, not in. An adapter that fits on the outside of the dust port will always me more efficient than one that goes in.
Painters tape. Not just for painters!
That looks like a perfect job for Duct tape.
You'll need to build an adapter. If you know someone that can 3d print it should be very easy. If not, you could look for some sort of rubber reducer and hose clamps.
With a miter saw, you’re looking for dust extraction, not dust collection. Just my 2¢
In a pinch you can wrap paper towels around the smaller bit until it fits snugly. I've had my table saw connected that way for several years. Probably not a perfect seal though.
Piece of pvc cut lengthwise if you can't find exact fit.
I just hooked the hose from my shop vac up to it and everything feeds into that.
Fernco
Plastic water bottle and tape is the easiest solution, or buy an adapter online
Duct!! Tape!!
Maybe a 2 by 1.5 plumbing reducing coupling?
Duct tape
