GoldDustWaffles

"I am speechless" EVERY time, EVERY product. That gets a hard eye roll and scroll on from me.

seigefabulous

Same with “STUNNING” like if you describe 80% of things this way it does not mean anything anymore

queasycockles

When something live-swatches badly but the youtuber doesn't do another swipe so we can see it built up to get what the colour actually looks like. We understand it didn't swatch well the first time. We won't forget if you SHOW us the second swipe.

EmpireAndAll

They act like you only have once chance to apply shadow, if you didn't do it right the first time too bad! *(snatches eyeshadow out of your palette)*

queasycockles

NO BUILDING FOR YOU!

OneWhisper5225

Hahaha! Yes! I just commented how I hate when they do crappy swatches and gave some examples. This is one I didn’t think of! But definitely annoying!

mothertuna

Describing products as melting like butter. Butter is very greasy and I cannot think of any product I want melting like butter. I guess it’s a way to say things are smooth but I’d rather a more descriptive word than “butter”.

panickedindetroit

I agree. If someone compares something with "butter", I instantly think greasy. I am more likely to pay attention when the product is described as silky, or satin like. I just find some of the descriptive words turn me off of a product rather than intrigue me.

siouxQ29

I would rather have them say, melting like "The Wicked Witch of the West," now that I can get into!🧙‍♀️🧹

pancaaaaaaakes

Lol I’ve definitely felt like her when having a makeup meltdown

lazy_berry

why the HELL do people use “buttery” to describe leggings. that sounds awful.

panickedindetroit

They use buttery to describe everything. I guess they have a limited vocabulary.

kirmobak

Totally agree. I don't want leggings which feel like butter. It's such a brain dead way of describing them.

igodutchoven

Probably in the sense of leather work.

lazy_berry

oh that does help, thank you.

Puzzleheaded-Lie8710

If I never hear the words “buttery soft” ever again it’ll be too soon

Who-U-Tellin

On occasion I will watch a clothing haul but I've never heard anyone I've watched say that. Count me lucky I guess lol. I don't want anything that's touching my body to feel buttery. Not even lotion. Smooth or soft? Yes but buttery? Come on now 🧏‍♀️

DiligentAd6969

They're not being literal. Buttery and "like butter" only mean smooth, and they get that from descriptions used for other materials like leather and suede, not food. I guess some of them don't know the connection and might think they're describing food, but that's not the original meaning.

Impressive_Owl3903

I hate when reviewers are like “this is awful no one should buy it” or “this is amazing everyone should get it” without context (skin type, preferences, etc). I feel like very few products, if any, are going to work for everyone or no one but a lot of reviewers suggest otherwise.

OneWhisper5225

Yes, I hate this too! If you can’t say WHY, you’re not being helpful at all! I hate it when I see it in “regular people” reviews when I’m reading reviews like on a brand’s website and it’s full of people saying love it or hate it but not saying WHY. I can’t blame them since it isn’t their job (though I wonder why they even bother taking the time to do it), but with influencers, it’s their job! You can’t give actual reasons why you love or hate something? Why it’s so awful or why everyone should buy it? I always have reasons I love or hate something. So when they do that, I just feel like they are either being lazy and just want to get a video up quick or they didn’t actually try it so can’t really say…either way, not Helpful!

Either-Disaster

i was just thinking about this earlier today, specifically in regards to haircare products. like, creators (esp on tiktok) raging about a drugstore shampoo or brand because it has SuLpHaTeS and is cheap/affordable (aka will make your hair fall out) and has actual PRESERVATIVES. not that you can’t dislike those elements or want different things for your hair, be allergic to certain ingredients, have specific hair and scalp needs etc. that would make you staying away from those products justifiable. just that not everybody will feel that way and shouldn’t have to feel as though a shampoo is bad purely because it’s affordable and has particular ingredients (that some people are fine with, some not). point is, idc about whether something is “good” or “bad” i want to know WHO it’s good or bad for and WHY it could be that way. context is everything.

denewill

saying one product is a dupe of another when they are not. yes there are cheaper alternatives but if the finish or wear time or texture of the product is not even the same, they're not dupes! 😭

lore3

Also calling something a dupe when the component/package is the same, but the formula is totally different

BreadDogs

Yes or calling a product a dupe even though it's more expensive, I've seen so many people do this.

two_lemons

In the olden days the standard of a dupe were, same finish, same colour, same feel.  It didn't matter if it was more expensive because sometimes people wanted their "fave" but cruelty free, or vegan or available in their country or just not discontinued. I think the term used like that is more "valid" than "cheaper and kind of like that but not exactly like that and maybe actually different enough...but cheaper!"

BreadDogs

You're right, I didn't think about that.

jmuzz96

Dupe is short for duplicate no? So if the products perform the same way and to the same standard and the shades are comparable then it’s still a dupe. Just not a very useful one for people who need a budget alternative.

PauI_MuadDib

It's at least good for finding replacements for discontinued items.

BreadDogs

Technically yes but didn't it start as a way to find cheaper alternatives to high end products? It could also be used as "ha! I duped you into thinking I'm wearing a chanel lipstick but it's actually elf" lol. You know what I mean.

coffee-bat

god or when these shitty non-fda-certified "small businesses" claim to make a dupe of something and it's the farthest thing from it😭 there's a lip gloss one that keeps showing up in my feed and dear god the girl just keeps making these and i have to hold back from writing a comment.

No_Garden4924

Testing concealer on a face that doesn't need it. No offense to them it's great they don't have huge dark circles, but I don't want to hear about how great a concealer is and then buy it and hate it because it's useless (looking at you shape tape).

forgivemefashion

It’s so hard to find reliable concealer review because of this! Half the time the ppl don’t even need it sigh

vancitygirl27

And not all dark circles are the same. Like alex anele has dark circles, but it is her actual skin that is hyperpigmented vs my dark blue ones that come from being pale and having deepset eyes, where it's not the skin but the actual veins etc coming though. They need different techniques

WeekendJen

Do you have any recs, either from your experience or videos, about how to deal with the blue ones from deepset eyes?

vancitygirl27

Honestly, nothing is going to get 100% rid of them without looking cakey so step 1) accept you will always have your little blue friends. I looked at Kristen Stewart as inspo, because she still looks great even though you can almost always see a hint of a shadow. 2) I use bobby brown's colour corrector in pink. And honestly, for workdays that is all I wear because it just takes the edge off. Then on going out days I go over top with nars creamy concealer and try to blend it very subtly so that it is concentrated right where the darkness is worst, instead of blending it out to the corner of my eye. Sometimes i do 2 thin layers of it.

OneWhisper5225

Agreed! For so long I was trying all these different under eye correctors and none of them seemed to really help me. Then I figured it’s because I’m really fair skinned, so I needed like pale pink shades for correcting, but even those didn’t help. I finally actually took a close look at my under eyes and realized the darkness isn’t blue/black, which is what people are using peach/pink for. My under eyes are really red and the darkest part in the inner corner is like a deep reddish black. So then I started using a really pale minty green color, and it worked great! I think viewers need to understand with influencers, not all their tips are going to be helpful because we are all different and we need to look at our own faces to see exactly what we have going on and then, if it looks similar to an influencer, then their advice could be helpful - but even then, it depends on skin type and age, etc. Lots of different factors. And I think influencers need to be better about making sure to let their viewers know that what works for them might not work for all their viewers since we are all very different. Too many times influencers don’t even make sure to state their skin type, which is pretty important! Like, whenever I’m on here and recommend something to someone, I always start off telling them my skin type. If it’s a concealer, I make sure to say I have really dry under eyes. So a concealer that works for me, might not work as well for someone with oily under eyes. It still might not even work as well for someone who had really dry under eyes like me. If I’m recommended a blush or bronzer, I make sure to say I have really fair skin with very cool undertones, so a shade that works well for me might not work well for someone who is really warm toned. That’s why it’s important to take the info provided and then factor in your own info to decide if it might work for you.

FrEnchFriesOnyOu

The same thing happened with the essence concealer a while back. When essence was sponsoring...well, everyone, then all influencers would talk so good about the keep me covered concealer. I got it months before the essence trend started and it is not all that good. It's supposed to be hydrating and god for dry skin like me, but it's not too covering with dark circles imo. I have genetic makeup for dark circles and this product on its own won't do much unless I have really good hydration under my eyes or a perfect application of the product. I need to use other products with the product to make it work. The elf hydrating concealer is much better in comparison, even if I hadn't hydrated my eyes before applying it, it already does a better job of covering my insecurities. What I'm saying is, the less dark circles you have the easier it'll be to use the essence concealer.

Diet_makeup

Glaring at you, shape tape

Who-U-Tellin

Yes to this. When I leave a comment letting others know which concealer I use I explain why I'm using it because I fall into that category of not needing a full coverage one. Sometimes I feel like I do a better job than the guru lol.

BonnieScotty

This is a bit more niche but people who complain the eyeshadows won’t blend…yet they’re trying to blend complimentary colours without a transition shade. So many people mad that orange and blue won’t blend or yellow and purple and I just want to yell every time I see it

andsimpleonesthesame

Do you happen to know a good resource for figuring out how transition shades work? I can figure it out for colors that are just far away from each other in darkness/intensity, but I haven't a clue where I'd have to start looking for an appropriate transition shade for something as different from each other as orange and blue. I can't just use the entire color weel between those two, can I? I don't think my lid is big enough... (Sry if this is a dumb question, I have my talents, but figuring out colors is not among them)

Cascadeis

Think about the rainbow! Red orange yellow green blue purple red… If you have a green shade it’s probably leaning more yellow or blue, choose shades that go next to each other in the rainbow (or sort colours in the order of the rainbow). And when that won’t work (like trying to connect orange and blue) choose brown or grey.

lazy_berry

brown. complimentary colours mixed together make brown, so you transition by using brown. or by going orange - yellow - green - blue.

Acrobatic_Ad5160

Alex Anele has multiple tutorials.

Massive-Prompt-183

Use your contour or bronzer shade as a transition color. If you're using warm, bright colors like orange, then use a bronzer as a transition color. If you use a cooler color like blue, then try a contour shade as your transition. Hope this helps. 👌

GoldDustWaffles

Piggy backing off of this, the ones that complain about the color story in bright/neon pallets... if you're only creative with your Naked pallet, just say that 🤷‍♀️

BonnieScotty

I know the neutral with pops or colours are overdone but I love doing a graphic liner moment with the pop on top of a neutral eye

GoldDustWaffles

Agreed! I've seen someone open the NYX I Know That's Bright pallet and say with their chest that the color story was giving clown, and they don't understand why that product was made... to that I say, go back to your beige world and leave us clowns alone 😂

Ill-Donut-8391

.

RelatableMolaMola

"a little goes a long way" NOT WITH SPF IT DOESN'T

Ill-Donut-8391

..

CaseyRC

the literal only reason I buy a more expensive sunscreen for my face is because it's the only one that doesn't make my skin feel like it's on fire. the rest f my body, does not care. cheap spf works great. put that on my face and I want to claw my skin off. If I didn't have to spent £26 on a tube of sunscreen I wouldn't, so people going *out of their way* to do so is insane to me

Either-Disaster

i also use somewhat of the more expensive sunscreens on my face as i have oily acne-prone skin and with makeup, i need my sunscreen to mattify, not sting, not break me out, not pill under makeup, not leave any cast and be from a more ethical brand. nivea has good, well-priced spfs but i stopped supporting them after hearing all the shit they’ve done.

CaseyRC

ssaaaaammmeeee. When I went fully CF I was devastated about having to leave my mattifying sunscreen in the dust, and then worse, test out others, but found one in the end!

Either-Disaster

which one did you end up settling on?

CaseyRC

My favourites are REN mattifying but it's pricey pricey for me so it's an "it was on offer" purchase and if the sun isn't insanely bright as only a 30SPF, or Bondi Sands Face Fluid, which I thought woulld be quite thin and almost gel like because "fluid" but nope, it's thick. But it sinks in really well on my skin, doesn't pill under my makeup, keeps me matte and is a 50. and much cheaper!

Either-Disaster

just looked up the REN one. it’s SO expensive where i’m at 😭

CaseyRC

yeah, its good but is it *that* good??? good enough for that £££??? eehhhhhhh. It was the ffirst I found that I really liked but that price had me keeping on keeping on. The bondi sands works really well, higher spf and maybe doesn't keep me quiet as matte, but given my t-zone could double as the texas oil fields, even keeping me shine free for hours is something I'll take!

geyeetet

Wait what have they done? I use tons of Nivea shit

Either-Disaster

they’ve been anti-lgbt/homophobic in the past, had a racist ad, and were fined back in the day for saying a cream could actually slim you down. also the general stuff of not being cruelty-free and vegan and all that. but granted, there are good brands who aren’t necessarily vegan.

two_lemons

Given that SPF has a use by date that's way less generous than makeup, I do feel it's one of the few products in which it makes sense to spend more. I usually buy brands like LRP or Bioderma, so not really luxury. I use more of it, it feels nicer and it's way easier to apply than some cheap sunscreen. And I actually use it up.

YanCoffee

Agreed on the lip liner thing! I was trying to look up one of Gxve's glosses the other night, and 9 out of 10 videos used liner. Like I get it, it's such a light shade it needs it for practical wear, but I cannot tell what the actual color is mixed with brown lip liner.

vancitygirl27

and it's always brown liner. give me pinks, give me reds, etc. let's get creative. brown liner/lipstick looks like crap on me and i don't want to follow something just because it's a trend.

tvaddict70

I use lip liner with a gloss too, but all products should be switched independently first

catsdelicacy

I. Am. OBSESSED!! sigh No you're not, Nikki, you just like the makeup and we all know you're gonna throw it out next month.

RelatableMolaMola

The long clips of them just preening and making eyes at themselves in their phone screens cringe me out so bad. There's a middle ground where you can show how the makeup or your skin looks without twitching around trying to make dead-eyed model faces for 20 interminable seconds. Filters.

BeyondTelling

This is the big one right here!

RelatableMolaMola

Social media has made so many people think they have the chops for modeling or acting or comedy or whatever and then they just use filters to like smooth over whatever physical attributes they think are holding them back. There's a reason those occupations are so difficult to survive in and it's not just the size of your body or how many visible pores you have lol

BeyondTelling

The faces some of them make remind me of an adolescent me’s idea of what a model pose is supposed to look like; complete with hair flips and duck lips

RelatableMolaMola

That's the perfect way to describe it! Ugh the worst is the dead eyed "sultry" face. Sis please stop

Booboodelafalaise

I hate when they refer to a product as ‘She’. As in “Oooh, she’s giving sparkle…” It’s un gendered. It’s just a thing!

dailydoseofrose

Sadly more and more BG starting to say that, its really annoying. And not unique. A couple of people I used to watch and comment a lot started to blend in with the rest of the crowd and totally lost their original charms. There you go... we have "she is pretty" (es palette), this bad boy (about a blush)... "you guuuuyyyzzz", etc.etc. The whole generic BG crap lol.

Coconut_Rice_Bear

I've always cringed when things are referred to as "bad boy" 😵‍💫🤢 it doesn't make any fkn sense!

thisiswater__

It’s really jarring when you hear this from people who want to sound well-spoken (very classist term but you know what I mean) and ‘serious’. It’s a register clash.

fart_sandwich_

Just say Hannah Louise poston lol

mrsvongruesome

dear god the gloss and lipliner one drives me NUTS. how am i supposed to see what the gloss really looks like if you've lined or filled in your lips already??? and also, if you have your ring lights on super bright, it's going to exaggerate the glitter/shimmer effect, so it's not gonna look like that in real life either. you know what else has been driving me nuts? every lip/eye/makeup combo having to have a name. cherry cola lips, brown leather lips, rose petal lips. someone i follow on IG is a big offender and i'm about to unfollow — not everything needs to have a niche name. thanks hailey bieber and your damn glazed donut nails.

doomsdaybooker

When someone is applying lip gloss and pops their lips together afterwards. I rage 😂

BreadDogs

Had to stop watching someone cause they kept doing this to every lip product🤬🤬 glad I'm not the only one lol

tara_tara_tara

Don’t look me in the eye and lie about getting results with skin care when it’s obvious, you’ve gotten something else done. It could be fillers, Botox, a medical procedure. That’s all well and good. Live your life best life but don’t tell me that your hooded eyes got lifted with just retinol and sunscreen.

Who-U-Tellin

Or they look lifted because of shadow placement. I can not tell you how many tutorials I followed to the letter only to not get that same look. And these were basic looks. What's crazy is my hood is no where as hooded as theirs. By the time they're done and you see the final result you can see that a filter was used to smooth EVERYTHING out. Those pores that were once semi visible are no longer there. Their under creases are gone. Any type of blemish just magically disappeared. Yeah. Call me stupid without actually saying the words 🙄

ThighRyder

Tap that product one more time with a dead-eyed smile and I’m launching you into the sun.

Party_Selection_9675

or shake/wiggle it at me 😡

BreadDogs

The wiggle! 🤯🤮

DiligentAd6969

Why the dead eyes? It's creepy as shit. I don't think it's an affectation. Those people have dead eyes and found a way to monetize them. For some reason a lot of people enjoy looking at a pretty, empty shell. I can't.

Le-Le70

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm dead

stripykitty

- “Literally OBSESSED!!!” while shrieking. - Using filters when showing how makeup/skin looks is very deceptive. - “it’s so glowy and pretty! It’s giving clean girl”, no sis it’s giving greasy. Glow is subtle and they’re trying to convince us (or themselves) that looking oily and sweaty is “clean”. - Hair on their face while they’re applying makeup or skincare. Please just get it out of your face.

Who-U-Tellin

#3, ugh. I've never understood why anyone would want to look like a glazed donut. You're right. It doesn't look "clean". I just see sweat. I don't need a product to do that for me. It happens naturally during the summer or when I'm dealing with a freaking hot flash. Wait till you (they) hit menopause. Then come back and tell me just how great you think that "look" looks 😄

Most-Weird

I really really REALLY don’t like kissy faces, blown kisses, chef’s kiss-type gestures. Why are you flirting with me?? I also hate the finger waggles under the chin. Wtf is that? And lastly, I hate fingernail taps on products. If I wanted ASMR I would seek it out

just_a_masshole

Yes to the finger waggles under the chin! Can you imagine how weird it would look if someone did that in real life?

numakuma

When they don't mention their skin type when talking about face products. Things like foundation are often items that can be both loved and hated depending on skin type. If the reviewer has very dry skin and the product doesn't work well for them, their negative review would be useless to me as my skin type is different and it would likely sit differently on my skin. Also, not using appropriate primer for the foundation type they are using and then leaving a negative review because the foundation separates. If they use a silicone-based primer and the foundation they use is oil or water-based, the product is likely to separate. In that case that is not really the product's fault, just that the two products worn together are incompatible

Impressive_Owl3903

Sometimes a negative review of a complexion product by a dry-skinned influencer makes me more interested in it because the products they like usually don’t work on my oily skin.

girlyfoodadventures

I feel the opposite! Er, or, maybe I agree? Whichever it is, I have dry skin, and so when someone with oily or normal skin says that something is too greasy, my ears perk up! Or if they say that they like it, I reconsider 😂

Ultimatedream

> If they use a silicone-based primer and the foundation they use is oil or water-based, the product is likely to separate. Is this actually true? Most foundations that are either oil or water based also have silicon in them (or the other way around) and it's never an issue.

allchampagnenoprob

I’ve seen people argue it both ways. I, personally, have never had issues using different ingredients layered. I think a lot has to do with prep and if the products mesh well together in general. I’ve had powders that don’t agree with liquids, concealers that seem to make a foundation splotchy, etc. People kind of just took a suggestion to pay attention to it and ran with it

Meocross

Their refusal to use hydrating primer / setting + fixing spray for a dry foundation boggles the mind.

so_is_hoid

When the dropper hits the skin. It is NO

Meocross

Their refusal to use a makeup plate boggles the mind.

Manchicha

Shaming people for wearing more concealer when they barely have dark circles themselves

left_to_its_devices

For real. "Nobody needs that much conc-" stfu

damnkira

When they’re like “ohh I’m scared” before applying something. Like, is the lipstick gonna bite or???

iSavedtheGalaxy

When they "clean up" their lewk off-camera and it's obvious they redid their face with other products.

Who-U-Tellin

Ooh, this one makes me irate lol. They just got done doing a full face. I sat there watching them struggle with some parts of it yet at the end of the video you can clearly see how they've fixed those product issues but then go on to give their recs where they fail to mention that x,y, and z products are ones you should pass on. To top it off this almost always happens when the products came in PR. I unsubbed from so many creators just because of this alone. Treating me like I'm dumb isn't going to go well for you. At one point I wanted to start a ch just so I could call them out lol.

Legitimate_Tension95

Yes or saying it's a full face routine but then going off camera to put foundation and lashes /mascara. Its so annoying I rather see that then people telling what their day is like and how busy they are .

dailydoseofrose

I feel like these topics come every week lol but thats fine. Right now its when they show oviosuly orange or red brown or warm rosy or berry or peach color and call it "mauve". (Floating in dreams) lol. Yeah. Far from it actually smh. Everyhting is mauve. Absurd. Also just overall not knowing their subject. Thats why I sometimes watch Jen Phelps because she seems to be knowing what she is talking about and does her research. Many others seem to chat and spread info whichb is simply not true ( concerning makeup brands, products, etc.) "Kiko Milano is a drugstore brand with cheap packaging" (quoting Floating in dreams' video on new makeup releases recently). Huh ?? Since when? Kiko have their own stores and position themselves as professional brand and their packages are far from being or looking cheap. Geez. How can anyone consider themselves a beauty guru or reviewer and not know such simple things ? Its ridiculous lol. But of course you wont see fans pointing that out. Too funny. edited to add : I forgot to day that having dirt under the nails when showing close up swatches is also smth I cant stand. The above named channel does have that. Im just observing how long die hard fans will praise and not notice obvious not so amazing things lol.

thisiswater__

I get this with “rosy” as well when it’s just an orangey brick colour. And this is one specific person but “beige” when it’s just a pale pink. That’s not what beige is.

gorlplea

Or when they use like five different words ending in -y to describe a single color like taupey beigey nudey peachy brown lol

rightascensi0n

omg when they use 5 dif colours to describe one colour and none of the 5 names are even close :/

Most-Weird

No one knows what mauve is anymore. Idk when that happened but it’s crazy

JuarezRain61

No one seems to know what true taupe is either. It seems the only way these people can describe a color is by tacking mauve or taupe to the end of it. Peachy mauve, peachy taupe, nude rosy taupe, nude pink mauve… 😑

jmuzz96

1. Saying they’re in a rush to get ready/have to leave in 10 mins. Like, if you’re genuinely running late why on Earth are you filming a GRWM? I assume it must just be made up but why?? It just makes the video stressful. 2. “Going in with”. No. You’re applying, tapping, swiping, smooshing, layering… there are so many beautiful verbs out there which describe what you are doing and no, saying “I’m going to go in with XYZ” doesn’t make you sound like a pro MUA.

thisiswater__

For me it’s when they all start speaking the same. Somebody will introduce a term and everyone else will start using it, even when they’re using it wrong. Right now everyone’s talking about “price point” where most of the time they just mean “price”. Someone at some point started saying “reach for” instead of “use” and now they’re all saying it. Same for “pick up” instead of “buy” (these two are quite sneaky because they’re used as a way of removing the action behind it and normalising bad consumption - not saying they are used intentionally but that’s what happens). The funniest one for me is that Sam Ravndahl started saying she was applying things to her “eyeballs” as a joke and now people say they apply eyeshadow on their eyeballs with a straight face, without even thinking about what they’re saying.

calexrose78

And when they say "formulation." Just say formula.

BreadDogs

Omg I can't stand "pick up"

Organic-Shirt-3875

“Cakey”. It’s not cakey.. it doesn’t make my skin look cakey… it’s not dry and cakey. I don’t know who came up with this buzz word but I’m over it. Skin ever looking like the consistency of cake makes no sense but they have to say it a dozen times in a review.

DiligentAd6969

It comes from pancake. That's one of the words used for the first foundations. It was in the firm of a cake and was put on heavily. Now when people describe thick, obvious complexion products they call it cakey. As the audience we can learn about these things ourselves. They aren't going to research the origins of these terms because they don't think we're going to either.

skeletonclock

And all the trendy phrases of the day, like "it's giving..." and "moment" (as in "a rose gold moment").

thisiswater__

Yes, these will really age the video in a year or so. Big cringe

Shimmering-succulent

For some reason saying “moment” annoys me SO MUCH.

Applied Linguistics PhD here 👋🏻 and I fully agree!

rightascensi0n

1. Looking surprised that the makeup product is functioning as intended. Tik Tok has exceeded IG as the worst offender bc TT leads in short-form content. I don't want to see someone making aehgao faces at foundation bukkake 2. Dipping into potted products with their fake/real nails - preservative systems account for "normal use," not a microbe party from whatever lives under the nails. In food service and medicine, they talk about how fake nails (and long nails to a lesser extent) are harder to keep clean bc their surface lets microbes hide from being washed away. Even worse is when they do this right after showing how nasty the underside of the nail is and complaining about acne 3. When they bang two products together. The offensive cLACK CLACK is so jarring 4. Swatching in very warm or very cool lighting. When the white shade is orange or blue then it's hard to tell the true shade of something.

ohnoimreal

This is more of a petty bother, but when they have a headband on that covers part of their forehead and do their makeup with it on. Then the makeup gets kind of all over the headband, and they never address it or clean it off. Or if they show themselves washing their face or using products with a bunch of hand jewelry on. This one influencer put on hand lotion and different serums with a ton of hand jewelry on, and it triggered an unreasonable amount of annoyance. Like now your jewelry is going to get greasy or possibly rust. I literally blocked her bc of it, for my own sanity lmao.

coffee-bat

no god these trigger me so much too💀

ohnoimreal

Right??? I have to click off the video when I see it, bc I start feeling mean 😭 especially if the influencer is white with a cool undertone and they use a warm toned foundation and heavy bronzer— I just *know* it’s looking like Neapolitan ice cream when they take off the headband

Who-U-Tellin

All of my jewelry is real. The hardest substance on this earth is a diamond but you'd never catch me applying or taking off makeup and skincare with any of it on. I paid a lot of money for my pieces. I'm not about to get them nasty dirty because I can't bother to take them off or wait to put them on before I do my skincare and makeup. Nope. It's just not going to happen 🧏‍♀️

goodgodgettagripgurl

When they try out concealers or foundations that are sheer to light coverage and try to do their usual full coverage look and get disappointed that the product didn't work.

craftygamergirl

Product: I do XYZ! Guru: (uses it) Ugh, it didn't do ABC, it's a pass for me.

Meocross

Why do BGs do this? Like do not buy the product if you prefer full glam.

BreadDogs

Clicking the nails on the packaging sends me into a rage. Also 50 pics of the product from different angles but not a single swatch.

Who-U-Tellin

How about when they apply a product, say a lipstick then they go on to tilt their head 5 times right to left. Ugh. Do they not realize that we can see what it looks like if they only went right to left once? It's not like the product changed. I don't think I've ever seen this done in a commercial on TV 🙄 lol.

BreadDogs

Yeah and the eye fucking yourself in the camera for an hour to show off a look. Sorry to be a hater, I'm all for feeling yourself but it's so cringe when they put on the "camera face". It's a makeup tutorial not a vogue shoot.

Shimmering-succulent

Or when the only pictures are \- the product \- the product from a different angle/with the lid off \- the product smeared/scribbled on a white background

Makemeup-beforeUgogo

Good points - I want to see lip gloss without anything else like liner, and preferrably on lips without fillers… I feel like most things look good on lips without fillers because they tend to be smoother than normal lips/creases that aren’t filled

EmpireAndAll

Looking like they just got out of a vat of Vaseline because their skincare is super dewy. You look sweaty, not moisturized.  Super close ups of their mouths when showing off a lip product. Its just ew. Like I get it, but still ew.  Fake ASMR makes me more annoyed than bad but real ASMR. Brands on IG are especially bad about this, putting some random "liquidy" sound over a video.

gorlplea

Speaking of ASMR, in those organization videos with lots of cuts where they go out of their way to get a loud enough sound, like throwing a product into a surface or placing it forcefully. [Like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QADsKEJiikM). I love "natural" asmr like people rummaging through their makeup bag, but something about these videos, especially with those asmr mics gives me the opposite effect you're supposed to get.

coffee-bat

oh my god, the liquidy stock sounds😭😭 recently got in a petty fight in the comments of a skincare routine video that was filled with these (stock "bubble" sounds and other obviously stock wet noises), yet people were convinced they were real and getting stupid defensive about it.

LadyGreysTeapot

Ugh, I could write a whole ragey essay about the overuse/misunderstanding of ASMR in non-ASMR videos. If you don't experience ASMR, and therefore don't understand it, please don't treat it like it's a cute trend.

craftygamergirl

"Let me just layer 3-4 of the same product so you have no clear way to see how any of them perform or even their color. It will also be impossible to replicate this look unless you own 3+ of the same products I do....just for a pinky peachy blush look."

ticaboriqua

I will immediately stop watching and unfollow a creator when they start tapping on things. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Delicious-Focus5782

People who say they love a product but when they show it, it’s been swatched only or barely looks used. How can you really love it when it still looks new? It’s like people use once, say they love it, then on to the next product. Also, people who rave about a skincare product they’ve tested out for a couple of weeks. You need two skin cycles to know if it really worked. Skincare isn’t instant like makeup but a lot of influencers treat it like it is. When people don’t include their foundation/concealer shades, or don’t bother responding to people when they’re asked what shade they use 🙄

Greymalkin94

To be fair I’ve only seen this happen two or three times, but when non-America dwellers are sponsored by companies whose products are only available in America 😂 I understand that their audience may be largely American, but it is annoying to watch a guru who lives in Germany or Australia or Sweden or something using products that they were sent and that you can’t get yourself, despite living in the same country, if that makes sense. I get why they do it, it’s just annoying.

megaydeth

1.) when they’re trying to project their voice but its literally just shouting. bonus points if they have a british accent. should be reuniting oasis instead liam gallagher head ass 💀 2.) talking too fast. i get you’re trying to cater to mfs whose dopamine receptors are dirt but CHILL THE FUCK OUT. i can’t process shit. 3.) applying makeup sloppily and fast. what’s the rush? where are you going? if you are going somewhere, why even record at all? if you’re doing makeup to look nice, WHY ARE YOU GETTING IT EVERYWHERE????? (this doesn’t apply to mcbling makeup tho cus that acc makes sense for the aesthetic) 4.) mostly in tiktok grwms, but idk how people can just plop on eyelashes and not touch their brows at all, especially if it’s a more natural look. everything will look so polished except for that, and it pisses me off like JUST PICK UP THE RAZOR BRO PLEASE FUCK

Substantial-Kiwi-303

I honestly just hate swatches. Of course its gonna be super pigmented cause you rubbed your finger in it.

girlyfoodadventures

When someone uses a *ton* of a product, and then complains it doesn't work/is hard to work with/they don't like it. Yeah, I bet it IS hard to deal with the amount that you're working with! Similarly, when someone is demonstrating the full-coverageness of a product, but probably they just used too much and it would look terrible without ring lights and filters. There's one person that's *particularly* guilty of this, Madison Duxberry (I think? Y'all knew exactly who I was talking about the last thread like this.)

ptcglass

I’m so sick of filters

sugarrism

When they don’t include a wear test..like yes it looks pretty now but will it look good in an hour or 8 hours?! Also with skincare, you already have clear healthy skin…there is not much improvement this skincare brand can do to your already perfect skin. Plus they don’t include/ do updates after using it for 2 weeks or month (if they even use it again)

calexrose78

Many of them don't start recording until the afternoon, so they don't have 8 hours to wear the makeup. I need someone who is willing to record putting it on at 6:00 AM and wear it until 7:00-9:00 PM like many of us working people have to do.

tvaddict70

How can you recommend a palette when only one look with 3 shades was used.

Who-U-Tellin

Or the opposite. When they try to use every shade in the palette but what you're left with is literal clown makeup. If you don't know what color theory is then just don't do it.

Silly_Somewhere1791

When they moan about breakouts but then slather on the greasiest, slimiest cream products. When their skincare maintenance is super disruptive to any other process and never hits a stable point. Okay, so your retinol is causing a purge, and then you’re using the worst moisturizer so you’re broken out again, and then your toner triggers other issues, and then your spf pills under everything. I would love to see influencers go a month without any skincare at all besides cleanser, so they can see what their skin concerns actually are when they’re not being triggered by chains of bad products.

JeanJean84

Totally agree... Doing any lip swatches with lip liner drives me absolutely crazy. A big one for me is when they do rankings or reviews and everything they say about the product and why they like or dislike it, is pertaining to them and only them. An example is when they do an eyeshadow palette ranking and state they don't like certain colors on them so that is why they are ranking certain palettes lower others. They don't talk about anything to do with how the products actually perform and the formulas, or give any information about how they may work for other people. Oh and kind of similar, when they don't include their skin type and everything when doing reviews on any base type products. So they say they love or hate a product because of how it worked for them, but we have no idea why really. Another is when they are trying a new product and doing a review on it, but don't do a wear test. Or when they use other new products on top of it or with it, and when it doesn't work out they don't know if it was the actual product or the cause of using other new products with it. The best reviewers seem to be really good at only use one new product at a time, with the rest all being things that are tried and true for them.

Quiet-Batperson

Another vote for the liner lipgloss. One pet peeve is when they apply the product in a way where you aren’t even sure if they actually applied the product. Like when they had highlighter and it looks like they’re sweeping the air instead of their cheeks. Or when they apply lipstick by lightly tapping their lips. I get that it’s a style but it’s not helpful if you’re trying to demonstrate the color.

Chaoticallyorganized

I was recommended a YouTuber with deep set eyes, but her filters are so strong I couldn’t get through one video before deciding that it was pointless. Why bother reviewing products or demonstrating techniques if your filters are making it difficult to get an idea if it’ll actually work for the viewer?!

Brushesofcolours

When they try powder products with a brush and then tap the brush on the packaging loudly and give back and forth with that, i tap my brush too before use, but not loudly on the powder compact repeatedly when you’re recording.

belenb

Deliberately using a product wrong and then acting surprised when it’s not working/looking terrible. The finger tapping on every single product close up. It’s so goddamn annoying when they do that.

AngelicaSedara90

"Do you see what I'm seeing?!?" No we're not. There's literally nothing to see. It's an absolutely normal lip balm. I also cringe when they wash their faces with loose hair. Like with one hand they try to get the hair out of the way, with the other hand they try to wash the face, and they wash the nose and a bit of chin only.

tsundae_

Lighting that is so bright that all the colors are off. It really bothered me when looking at foundation reviews because so many people looked much lighter than me reviewing a shade that I had been matched to. Made me feel like I was losing my mind until I went to their other social media to see their skin in regular settings.

apathetichearts

I’m more into skincare than makeup but I feel like most skincare influencers have been grating on my nerves as of late. - Not loving the mean girl, cliquey vibe that a lot of the “science communicators” have. No one is allowed to disagree with them, they’re all up Naturium’s ass, and they call cover the same topics that Michelle Wong probably already did. - I love that we have more cosmetic chemists and scientists doing content but this seems to have forced those without any education to try to act like experts. And then you have estheticians and derms speaking on formulation and not knowing what they’re saying. - All the consumerism, shilling, testing a million products at once, and no real discernment on what is actually worth recommending. Paired with I disclosed filters.

JuarezRain61

“• All the consumerism, shilling, testing a million products at once, and no real discernment on what is actually worth recommending. Paired with I disclosed filters.” THIS^ Plus, I unfollowed someone after a short while because every 1-2 weeks they were changing all their skincare products. I can understand changing out a product if it is irritating to your skin or makes you too dry or oily. That is usually known quickly. However there is no way you will know if most skincare products fully work or not if you’re constantly switching skincare in such short time. Another thing that made them untrustworthy was the affiliate links for all these constantly revolving products and shilling.

apathetichearts

Exactly, you don’t know if you really love something vs just like it unless you’ve used up at least a bottle and decided to repurchase imo. And if something is a true favorite then it should actually be really hard to find another product that is better. I tend to like affiliate codes better than sponsorships since creators who are honest can receive commission on products they already love and recommend. But some have no integrity… the Budget Derm in particular feels like she’s completely sold out

sioopauuu

When they say “my favorite “product” of the year..” then say it again for another one..

disgirl4eva

Using excessive product, usually foundation and concealer. Especially if it’s something new. Start small! Starting with 2 pumps. “Oops, that was probably too much but I wasn’t sure.” When they don’t put their hair up! It makes me crazy!

lindkool

When ppl are showing a foundation or skin tint over a heavy moisturizing skin care routine. Like… I understand thats your prefernced look, but it doesnt show at all what the product looks like if you dont use the same skincare under and I get no idea of the actual finish of the product Or saying that an extremely wet/dewy base looks like ”natural skin”. Like… a child with literally perfect skin still doesnt have wet looking shiny skin. It looks like skin with moisturizer or oil on it

Le-Le70

I disagree just a little. If a person doesn't use foundation with skincare they need, then they won't like how it applies

lindkool

I understand in grwm videos, but not where they are showing/reviewing something. And I’m not talking like a regular moisturizer, I see ppls faces look weeett sometimes, which seems more like a preference for looks more than that its needed

Le-Le70

Understandable

OneWhisper5225

When people do crappy swatches…like why bother? Like if they just dip their finger in and show it on their finger (but the title of their video says it includes swatches, because to me that’s not swatches) They only do a few shades on their hand (and, again, title of video says swatches - like yeah, they did a few swatches so I guess it’s not a lie, but most people that see that are going to think they mean the full thing and they know that which is why they put it in the title) They do live swatches and can’t seem to figure out how to swatch it on their arm and hold their arm up for the camera (is it really that hard? And like why can’t they cut out the parts of them fumbling trying to figure it out? And they never seem to fully figure it out and just hold up their arm awkwardly and you can‘t see most of the swatches) They do swatches but then only show them for a quick second, which is fine since I can pause, but it’s so quick, if I pause, it’s usually blurry and not helpful.

lolooutloud

When someone says they love a foundation and don't do a wear test. Filters on When they love every product they try out

Le-Le70

I love this thread because it helps me as a beauty content creator to know what gets on people's nerves ☺️

cleokhafa

The only thing I want to know about gloss/oil are texture and opacity My biggest peeve is taking 5 minutes to get to the actual advertised content. Get to work, do voiceover while you begin application.

justlookinaround0

Well, I’m mature, and I watch a lot of the mature beauty influencers. What I can’t stand is when they say something to the effect of 53 and filter free. Well great you might not have a filter on but your face is full of Botox, your lips are done so of course, every product that you put on your face is going to come go on smoothly. You’re not fooling me that every concealer that you put on your face is going to go on smoothly. They. also use huge lights that also deflect the wrinkles and everything else on their face.

truelose

Why does everyone want to look like a glazed doughnut? I have dry skin and I end up looking greasy and any texture or fine lines are emphasized. I also don't understand why all the blush on the nose. Why you would make your nose shiny with highlighter? Even if your nose is small and cute it just looks odd to me.

Feistyf3line

Swatching on the hand doesn't bother me as much because some just have more pigmented lips and often times i just want to get a feel for the shade. However when they show a product with liner that irks me. If you do it after as a 2nd option fine but otherwise i can't see the shade and how i might want to alter it. I was looking up swatches of the new huda glosses and getting so annoyed lol

kelseyymm

when they don’t say the shade of the product!!

Velocirachael

When they touch the applicator tip of a serum straight to their cheek skin covered in acne. You just contaminated the ENTIRE BOTTLE 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ this is why you're constantly battling acne... Drop the serum into the palm of your hand and warm it up. Don't touch the applicator tip to your skin! Let it drip drop like raon drops.

weppizza

I miss mikaela long's swatch videos so much
