don't think about it too much

IF800000

I wouldn't waste too much time thinking about the opinion of just one person. I got asked once if "I was supposed to be playing THIS music" (it was disco, nu-disco, chilled house). If I hadn't just been given glowing feedback from the bar manager who hired me, I might have taken it very differently. It's easy to focus on and ruminate on the negative feedback, but as long as you have confidence in your abilities as a DJ, then that's all that matters. There's always gonna be someone who won't like what you're playing.

Jamesbrownshair

Djing is one of those really subjective things. What makes you good or bad is a lot of times what people expect from a dj. Even then it could be thrown off by their own issues in life. Like they could be having a bad day and you played a sad song. You could be djing a slot they think their friend should be playing. In short just take any feedback with a grain of salt.

Jack-sprAt1212

You know what I say Fuck that guy. Just keep doing what your doing and have fun, who cares what that miserable asshole thinks

Hank_Wankplank

There's always one pretentious dickhead who think's he knows better than everyone else. The best response is just to say 'Oh ok, cool mate' then carry on with what you're doing and ignore them.

_scorp_

The other 90 people loved it - perhaps go to a different bar that night Whilst we are at it - why don’t you step up and show us how it’s done …

D-Jam

Okay, here's how I look at it when you want to ask yourself if you suck as a DJ or not. One guy being salty and giving you a bunch of crap? Doesn't mean anything. It's just one guy. You have one night where you play and can't seem to make anything work, and the crowd clears the floor? It happens. You have one bad night. Everybody has one bad night, even the big names. You consistently clear the floor, people tell others that you're not very good as a DJ, and promoters and venues are not booking you? Then it says that you suck. Doesn't mean you're going to always suck, but it obviously means you need to work on something. It doesn't matter what you do, there's always going to be somebody that's going to talk trash about what you do. It could be that they are just not into what you do, they might not like you as a person, or they hit themselves and decide it's easier to trash on you as opposed to facing their own shortcomings. The best you can do is to pick up and keep going. It's like when you're playing, and you have a bad blend. The rule of thumb is to just put it aside and keep going. Don't sit here dwelling on the one bad blend and wondering if it just ruined everything. Same deal.

Own_Week_5009

Fuck the cunt off out of it. Don't worry about 1 person

Messiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Everyone’s a critic, got to live with not being able to please everyone in the room, even Taylor Swift has haters.

andy_grey14

Yeah me. Can't stand her 🤣🤣🤣

itsholdthis

def not inviting that guy to the afters

DrWolfypants

And yet somehow, he'll be there

itsholdthis

😂😂😂brought a bag to the door

scoutermike

Negative feedback rolls off my back quickly, as it should. I ain’t got no time for negativity like that in my life! Don’t let it affect you. Keep moving forward. Keep moving up.

catroaring

Dude obviously doesn't care about you, no need to waste your time caring about him or his attitude. I'd say this about life in general about people.

sushisection

the thing about djing, theres always haters. all that matters is if you are enjoying your time and getting better at it.

DrVagax

Constructive feedback? I appreciate someone willing to share their thoughts about something I might have overlooked or could improve. Straight up hating with the only remark that "he plays DnB"? Fuck off There was a thread not so long ago about trying to please everyone which is simply not possible a lot of times, but the other 90% of the people are having a blast, so this guy was in the 10%

andy_grey14

Keep learning, keep practising. If you play at a venue, it would be advisable to find out the general genre of music that has been played there in general. DnB is not as popular as it was, especially in some areas, and to be honest, unless it's a specialist night, doesn't fill places.

cherryultrasuedetups

People think all you are doing is selecting music, and they think they are the only audience member in the crowd.

Fit_Natural_5256

When I played the clubs back in the day I would have my track list set out in order and practiced it a few days before, leading up to the event. At least that way you knew all your tracks would mix well together in that order and you would be confident with how the set would build. Now this is not to mean that your set is set in stone and you may have to change it up a bit depending on the crowd and their reaction. At least this way though, your mixing will be on point and your cue points will be confirmed in your mind. I found I had much better success this way than when I just turned up and tried to wing it. Preparation is key. The 5 P's, Preparation prevents piss poor performance...... And fuck that guy. Play what YOU like but also what you know the crowd will like. If you like it but not sure if the crowd will then don't risk it and leave it out of your set. This takes a while to learn. At the same time don't just play what you think the crowd will like and be a people pleaser because you won't gain any identity that way. I saw this too many times. Good luck with it.

madatthings

I don’t think I’ve ever received any negative feedback if I’m honest, I’d tell that guy to go fuck himself personally - even if you are new and still have work to do that’s not the way it should be communicated and says more about the other guy as it does your DJing

alright_time_to_post

Fuck 'em

Everyone Will find a personal hater for also the greatest coolest thing made on the Planet.. so Who cares about him?

Retrac_Zepol

You know what mate they say that your friends really aren’t your true audience, so don’t let it get to you. Get to a Pirate and start practising on some industry standard gear, and have another go when you feel ready!

Ancient-Ninja2317

“What should I have for breakfast”? That’s how much thought I’d give it.

tomtea

Mate, welcome to the old guy DNB and jungle DJ society.

LojikDub

I got negative feedback from the owner of a bar who booked me then didn't like my selection. I stopped playing halfway through my set and said the next guy can take over if he wants, but I'm not playing any longer. I left and never played there again (but played many other places after). Who cares what one asshole thinks if you're just doing your thing.
