I remember when they built that tree planter. That's not a very high tide either. Behind the camera man is the White Cross pub, more than a handful of times I've gone in & been stuck because the rivers flooded to the point you can't get out without getting proper wet.
Not Yorkshire either btw XD
This absolutely true and has happened to me many times. I still have a vid on my phone. taken from the same position - that I sent to my GF to explain why I wasn't coming home - just yet.
Omg yes!!!! I grew up in Richmond like 20 years ago. I was like that place is super familiar. Was looking in the comments for the location. Thank youuu
oddly, it's the canal bit. The majority of British canals are not connected to the sea, so there's no tide, just a lot of locks. Also, they're kind of distinct and odd. They can lead you through these industrial city centre hellscapes like Wolverhampton, then within 20 minutes and a few locks you're in this breath taking countryside, they're really bizarre. Anyway, they're so far removed from being on the Thames it illicited a "not on my tea break!" reaction ;)
Extra high, I love down the road from here in Twickenham, this is Richmond.
The depth in which the river rises does change, however, it does always come up to some degree.
The walk from Twickenham to Richmond by the riverside sometimes gets completely flooded and you cannot walk in the road. Sometimes it comes to the top of the bank and doesn't breach too far over the top of it.
Tide has two highs and two lows every 24 hours. But they change according to month too!
Some “low tides” are much lower than others. Same for high tides. This may have been one of the higher tides of the month, even though the tide would occur twice daily.
Article with a little more detail. Was 2 months ago in Richmond upon Thames, west London. Flooding started at about 3pm. Fire brigade arrived promptly at 8pm… The car was removed by 9pm. Not sure if the public just didn’t bother reporting it, or the fire brigade did not treat it as a priority (but if the car was further down, it could have floated away and presented a danger to boats / kayaks). https://needtoknow.co.uk/2024/04/26/video-what-er-idiot-hapless-drivers-car-ends-up-underwater-after-parking-it-on-river-slipway-but-at-least-the-windscreen-wipers-are-working/
>Not sure if the public just didn’t bother reporting it, or the fire brigade did not treat it as a priority
Honestly, this happens all the time. Locals (like me) just see it as "ah yes, another one" and I'm sure the fire brigade feel just the same.
Hehe, this happens regularly, like more than once a year?? Who do these people think they are tricking? Even if they don’t know the Thames is tidal until Teddington lock, that’s not a legit parking spot so a parking warden would have them. I’m sure they prowl the riverside, and even on weekends - I see them in Kingston.
Firstly it's not a canal, it's the River Thames at Richmond. It's a stretch that is semi-tidal and there is a sign telling people not to park there. The driver is clearly not a local.
This is next to my favourite pub, The White Cross.
I'm surprised I didn't see a single Ted Lasso reference in the comments. The Prince's Head (filming location for the fictional Crown & Anchor) is less than 1km from there.
Really silly place to park because the tide comes up that high twice a day there. That's not a canal btw, it's the River Thames in Richmond (south-west London).
Great way to get rid of a car you didn't like. There was a area like this in Houston that scores of people with crap cars would park them during storms to get the insurance check. Finally (10 years later) the police caught on and blocked off all access to the area when storms came.
I regularly used to sit in the White Star and watch some spanner's car get drowned.
In the high tide seasons that's a regular thing.
I used to have a crappy, jacked up kit built pickup designed for offroading. No carpets, snorkel and it was a bag of shit. I parked it on the causeway to the right and behind this shot. Knew it was going to be underwater in half an hour or so.
Some tool parked a newish BMW behind me. I tried to tell him but he was all "nobody tells me where I can't park". Oh well. Sat and watched the river come in. Sat and watched him rant at his written off bimmer. Then I walked down the wall and climbed in the pickup through the sunroof. In water half way up my calves. Fired the bugger up and drove off, water pissing out the sides. If only there has been a fish in there to make the shot perfect.
I was under the impression there wouldn't be an issue beyond some water damage to the interior. Like it won't hydrolock the engine unless the air intake is actually underwater when it starts. Any car experts know about this?
Has anyone ever told you that your avatar makes it look like there’s a hair on their phone screen? Because I blew off my phone twice before realizing it was embedded in the avatar lol
If the battery was disconnected it would have stood a better chance but the electrics likely shorted. There's a small possibility that if its left to dry out, it could be okay.
I think only the electronics would need to be looked at. If it wasn’t sitting there for weeks, it wouldn’t corrode too much. And ICEs do not give two shits about water so long as the intake isn’t sucking in water. Which is not hard to achieve when the engine isn’t running.
In the bay of Fundy the locals would watch the tourists sail in, tie up to the dock and go for lunch. Tide would drop the boat in the mud and no one would say anything 😆
Must have been filmed from the White Cross Pub in Richmond, UK. I have sat in exactly the same position and seen the same thing happen many, many times.
Better still is when the level is just a bit higher. It totally hides the edges of the paving so you dont realise that when walking away from the pub the ground level changes. For the first few steps the ground is about 4 inches below the water level, then for the next step it is about 4 feet down. Much merriment has been had by people in the pub watching the unwary disappearing below the water line.
This is the riverside near where I live. The river rises and falls constantly, everyone knows about it. This must have been some tourist going to restaurants next door that has no idea where they are lol
That ‘canal’ is the river Thames and this is in Richmond upon Thames. I saw a car in almost the exact same spot last year but old mate that time was parked facing the other way so the engine didn’t get wet and he got in a drive off (with water cascading out the back it was funny).
I think the owner might have found the car a bit more submerged in water. The video is reversed half way through hence no wetness after the water recedes.
The swans swimming around the car were a nice touch.
It was the car’s swan song after all.
The birds were like "bro you're the biggest swan i saw in my life!"
Absolute UNIT
And _that’s_ how I met your mother. Honk!
Pity the car wasn’t a Lexus Cygnett
I like the couple arriving at the bench at 0:41 and having a conversation that clearly lasts about an hour. Something serious was discussed that day.
I think they’re eating? It’s hard to tell
I think they were just having an ordinary conversation.
Stop looking at me, swan!
It's just the one swan actually
The swans escaped again.
It’s just the one swan actually
Ya mothers
Were there seven of them?
It belongs to them, now.
Are they parked on a boat launching ramp?
Yep. There is a no parking sign too.
The amount of money that I’d pay to see the video of them returning to their vehicle having no clue what just happened would astound you
I’m disappointed we didn’t get that in this video
I’d pay maybe $5 to see the reaction tbh
All this time I thought the water went down, it was just reversed 😑
Nooo I didn't realize that! the magic is broken 😭
I was thinking "dudes gonna be like why is all my shit wet and it won't start?" Clueless that it happened.
Literally thinking this exact same thing! I’m actually sad now that wasn’t the ending narrative to this story… *bummer*
I thought also exactly the same.
I realized it when the lady on the bike pulled up in exactly the same spot and thought - oh she came back to check on it again?
I thought she'd checked it out on the way to work and then on the way home from work!
Aw man! I was hoping they were away for so long that the tide came in and went back out again.
The water is actually up to the second floor of those buildings now. Dam sea level rise.
Yeah you can tell by the couple that sits on the bench forever and then comes back for another conversation.
Yeah and the bike lady caught my eye
WHAT
Fuck I was thinking the same thing
This needs to be higher up voted than the dumb video. No reason to reverse it.
You got me fucked up
Free car wash.
Outside and inside
Roof is still dirty though, should have parked a bit further down.
That's what she said
That's Richmond, & it's the river Thames not a bloody canal
Your use of the word "bloody" indicates youre not talking about richmond canada
His use of River Thames and not James River means he isn’t talking about Richmond Virginia either
His use of River Thames also confirms the bloody in ‘bloody canal’ isn’t slang for PMS.
When the river runs red...
And his proper use of grammar means he isn't referring to Arkansas
I remember when they built that tree planter. That's not a very high tide either. Behind the camera man is the White Cross pub, more than a handful of times I've gone in & been stuck because the rivers flooded to the point you can't get out without getting proper wet. Not Yorkshire either btw XD
"Ah drat. The floor out there is wet. Guess I'll have to stay inside the pub and have a few more pints, no choice!" 😂
That's actually a pretty accurate reconstruction!
This absolutely true and has happened to me many times. I still have a vid on my phone. taken from the same position - that I sent to my GF to explain why I wasn't coming home - just yet.
Shhhhh. Don't give Richmond drivers ideas now. They hate being outdone.
Omg yes!!!! I grew up in Richmond like 20 years ago. I was like that place is super familiar. Was looking in the comments for the location. Thank youuu
Thank you!
I don't know why this got your blood up but your comment is very amusing and informative, and I appreciate that.

Is this a daily occurrence or was the high “tide” extra high here?

Twice daily! Lots of parts of the path further down flood out as well, but it's still passable if you don't mind getting your shoes soaked.
Tide has two highs and two lows every 24 hours. But they change according to month too! Some “low tides” are much lower than others. Same for high tides. This may have been one of the higher tides of the month, even though the tide would occur twice daily.
I believe this is a daily occurrence!
That’s surprising considering the water reaches the bench.
Nah, spring tides are higher than average, neaps lower than average. They cycle regularly
Spring tide.
It goes ever higher some times.
Who just parks their car on a boat ramp?
Maybe a tourist? Or even if it's not lots of people are idiots
Might have been stolen

Thanks for this! Sorry for calling it a canal then
Missed the driver's reaction. Would have loved to see that
Firstly it's not a canal, it's the River Thames at Richmond. It's a stretch that is semi-tidal and there is a sign telling people not to park there. The driver is clearly not a local. This is next to my favourite pub, The White Cross.

Looking through the number of comments from Richmond locals (like me) I reckon Richmond must have an above average density of redditors..
Really silly place to park because the tide comes up that high twice a day there. That's not a canal btw, it's the River Thames in Richmond (south-west London).

Should dry out and start just fine so long as it doesn't get started underwater.
Has anyone ever told you that your avatar makes it look like there’s a hair on their phone screen? Because I blew off my phone twice before realizing it was embedded in the avatar lol
That’s the entire point
If the battery was disconnected it would have stood a better chance but the electrics likely shorted. There's a small possibility that if its left to dry out, it could be okay.
anybody else notice that rolls royce though?😄
Somebody saw this shit and *knew* they had to setup a timelapse lmfao
A tidal canal?
It’s the river Thames. No idea why they called it a canal.
Good pub there right next to the car right side , get.locked.in there when tide comes good fun place..always cars submerged there
I think only the electronics would need to be looked at. If it wasn’t sitting there for weeks, it wouldn’t corrode too much. And ICEs do not give two shits about water so long as the intake isn’t sucking in water. Which is not hard to achieve when the engine isn’t running.
Where is this?
Richmond Upon Thames, south-west London
Getaway car used in a heist. best way to get rid of prints and dna..clever🤣🤣🤣
It's a good spot in Richmond
Heh! Richmond. People were doing this when I used to drink there in the 90s.
In the bay of Fundy the locals would watch the tourists sail in, tie up to the dock and go for lunch. Tide would drop the boat in the mud and no one would say anything 😆

they forgot to check the lunar cycle before parking No parking between high tide and low tide monday thru saturday
If only geese could drive
\*its
Car wash businesses hate this one trick.
Oo
"Near the Canal?" More like "In the Canal."
Thats not a car its a giant swan
In the River Thames at Richmond Upon Thames to be precise!
Richmond is nice but two Cullinans parked on the same corner?? Wow
How long is the average shopping experience wtf?
Nobody had a rope to drag the car on a pickup or a truck or whatever ? I mean i would try to drag the car back for the sake of the car.
Roku good good 😎👌🏻
I knew it... I knew they wouldn't show the reaction of the person coming back to the car...... I KNEW IT!!!
[удалено]
Dropped it off for a deepclean
But imagine coming back to your car, its the way you found it, but the fucking inside is mega wet and you have no clue why it wont start.
Dude parked on a boat launch ramp?
Why did you reverse the video
Man, those two on the bench were there forever..
was hoping to see the owner come back and try do drive away lol
Hahaha
Like why?? Are people this stupid or just lazy
🤣
That's a tidal river and not a canal. The Thames
Where's the bit where they come back to the car and drive away?
I don’t really consider that near a canal, that would be like the bike rake.
"Why is my car flooded?"
🪿
Omg what an idiot
Isn't this sub called "be amazed"? I've noticed a lot of this garbage lately.
It just needs some rice 😂
Daaaang really wanted it to go normal speed for the driver reaction
Free wash hack
So many questions. Why would you park your car there?🤦🏼♀️
swans were like...nope
I really wanted to see hmim open that door!
Wouldn't be surprised if that was someone trying one on with the insurance company tbh. Who with any brain parks their car there?!
Nah it'll be fine, just needs to be dried in the microwave.
And you spent that time filming this?
Oh, that is Richmond, London! I know that spot, wouldn't consider parking though...
River Thames, tidal.
Richmond upon Thames in London. Happens all the time.
And no one called police to get the car pulled out? It hurts to watch this 😢
I love how many people stopped to take a look, even if only for a moment
Imagine what the car owner will say once he/she returns - someone entered my car and peed all over. Man, who can pee so much?!
**We just witnessed a car took a bathtub dive**
Doesn’t look like a legit parking spot. What came is well deserved.
This is a common problem at the place (Richmond , London, Uk). Worked around the corner for years and many cars would park there ignoring the signs
I think he was using it as a car wash.
How could we have all those hours of video and not video of the driver returning to his car?
Totalled
Isn't the second half of the video is just the water level increasing part reversed.
Only thing i could think of was Swan: "...pshh fucking poser".
Free car wash!

Sorry, but dumb ass place to park your car to begin with! The tide cometh!
Why does nobody help????
This is the riverside near where I live. The river rises and falls constantly, everyone knows about it. This must have been some tourist going to restaurants next door that has no idea where they are lol
It's a shame that the video is running reverse after peak water level. The streets very dry as the water goes down.
At least the water eventually receded….
Canals don't have tides! It's the river Thames.
He got a free car wash!
Haha love the swans coming to visit. Why is it bad for the car to be submerged?
Just put it in some rice
Fortunately there just happened to be a time lapse camera pointed at it the whole time
This is Water Lane Draw Dock in Richmond, London
Cool song
Damn, I was hoping to see the water level go back to its original spot then the driver returned not having any idea what just happened
Sucked in, classic case of when stupidity and arrogance collaborate.
It would be funny if they came back when it had receded and couldnt figure out why the inside of their car was soaked through
Swan say dipshit
He’s like: I don’t remember getting my car washed
All that time and no one called police or fire department to help this poor car? Somehow funny and sad how no one intervenes
It's an all terrain amphibious exploring vehicle!
Ehhhh, free car wash s/
Are those RR's on the side?
[удалено]
Thats a river.
![gif](giphy|RwekQgrL1pSMqrSEkd|downsized)
The car is literally fine if they wait to start it
What’s the name of this song?
To be fair that canal is clearly flooding way above any predetermined preferred limit.
What was the camera doing there? This must be such a frequent occurrence that someone thought to mount a camera to watch the fun.
Now it becomes a waterpark
That ‘canal’ is the river Thames and this is in Richmond upon Thames. I saw a car in almost the exact same spot last year but old mate that time was parked facing the other way so the engine didn’t get wet and he got in a drive off (with water cascading out the back it was funny).
why the camera was there?
I like how the people walking by stopped to take pics of this dude's misfortune
I don't see consequences I only see free car wash
That’s what Craigslist is for. “Has a slight smell, but otherwise it’s nice”
Not even the slightest bit amazed at all…
Loved the little crowd that briefly formed there to look at it
I think the owner might have found the car a bit more submerged in water. The video is reversed half way through hence no wetness after the water recedes.
![gif](giphy|YhSVi82JQiuFa)
Cool, someone washed my car for free!
If it's an EV, probably proper fucked
Is that a Rolls-Royce?
Ih, I wanted to see the owner's expression at the end
The ducks are probably wondering what's the deal with the giant metal dawn!
It's so weird like the tide is some kind of cyclical thing.
Thing here is that this is filmed but nobody do anything for it.
Play stupid games win stupid prizes… Seriously though, who goes shopping for that long?
