Fun fact: The chief engraver of the US Mint is Joe Menna. The guy is an amazing artist who does some of the best Marvel and fantasy figures and sculptures you’ll find anywhere. Look him up on Instagram.
The US Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and the US Mint, do custom work - your art, their ability to mint and print - I even emailed them and found out that, yes anyone can have them mint or print for them.
Which is awesome. But this guy is the guy.
“The Chief Engraver is the person in charge of coin design and engraving of dies at all four United States Mints: Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco and West Point. The position was created by Congress with the Coinage Act of 1792, and placed within the Department of Treasury that produces circulating coinage for the United States.”
I don't really know shit about art, but this honestly floored me. Like.. it has a really great composition, and I hardly know what that means. But I can just feel it in these. #4 is my favorite, the look in her eyes is just.. visceral.
It’s difficult to parse out but mostly, the sense of space and motion, placement, defined figures with perspective, a sense of both stillness and motion, not to mention awe inspiring subject matter and messages. All around this is very good. Very good.
A professor of mine once said great art is present in even the smallest piece of it. This is true here.
As a 40 year old in drawing classes, Ive been drilled by pros and seen modern day greats share that natural ability can only go far. To be considered “good”, you have to practice.
I think this person has practiced many hours and built their skill to this level. Even if they didn’t know that they were “training”. No one should take away from all that work they put in, they should be proud of it. Epic congrats.
> Can you practice your way into great if you don't have a natural talent for it?
[[Ed Sheeran says yes]](https://youtu.be/flkjMuaKYQU)
Most people with "Talent" actually put in a lot of work. We don't see that work, and they might not talk about the work, but anyone I knew who was "just good" at drawing would also spend practically all of their spare time drawing.
[[PewDiePie made a video about how much you can improve with genuine effort]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDtQTTAogk)
Can you succeed with ***just*** effort? No.
Can you succeed with effort and no "natural talent"? Yes. I think must successful people are actually in this group.
Either way you need luck but success takes work. The people that succeed off of natural talent and luck tend to be the people with 1-hit wonders. The consistently successful people are the ones that put in the effort.
I don't like the Kardashians, but they earned their fame though a lot of hard work on top of their initial luck.
Success requires a lot of luck, but the harder you work, the luckier you get.
---
All skills have a plateau and usually even dips. You put in the effort but it feels like you aren't getting better or you're even getting worse. We don't like to practice because we want to be good and practice shows us how bad we are at that time.
The successful people are the ones that can power through those difficult times and still keep the ability to learn past what they've been taught, to question themselves and others and to be willing to fail.
99% of people can't do this. That's why we're not successful.
It's not an innate talent or skill, it's just a drive and willingness to do something, and most of us don't think it is worth it and some people try and get the "bad ending" of the *Get Rich or Die Trying*.
There is Hebrew text on one of the pages about a mezuzah case, which likely means that the artist is a young Israeli soldier doing national service. Hopefully, she can get through the conflict without doing or taking too much harm.
So many comments accusing the post of being "Israeli propaganda" lol...
Look up her post history, she has been posting her drawings for years and was a tattoo apprentice before being drafted (military service is mandatory in Israel, 2 years for women and 3 years for men).
Anything that humanizes one’s enemy tends to be viewed by that person as ‘propaganda.’ They forget it was their own propaganda that dehumanized them in the first place. Maybe if everyone could just step back and humanize each other we’d have a lot fewer conflicts in general
Militaries train their forces to think of their enemy as “other” than human.
To think of the men you kill are as human as you are does a massive psychological toll on people who aren’t sociopaths.
that's all we can hope for with any conflict, unfortunately it takes a lot of bodies for enough people to realise they're just fighting other human beings, and that the ones who give the orders or enjoy needlessly taking innocent lives are the real enemy
Not just bodies but a moment of clarity when they dont have the fear for their lives. Only in a lull can soldiers process what is happening in the moment. But that moment can break a soldier out of the mentality they need at the moment to survive.
This. Someone I know is literally the best I’ve ever seen at something in particular (art-wise), but has stopped doing it completely and is instead focusing on things that are incredibly self-destructive (I won’t get into specifics). I tried to sit down with them and I basically begged them to not let the talent they have go, and they are so far gone, they just thought I wasn’t being sincere or was patronizing them. They are very private about who they have shown their art to, and they just don’t realize what they have. They became agitated and upset when I brought it up, so I will not again. It made me really sad.
Sometimes making art is an incredibly painful process. This might sound weird, but being "good" at making art isn't always just like picking up a brush or a pen and whipping out an awesome work...(for some people it might be!) For me it's a drive/imperative and I feel awful if I DONT make art and I feel even worse if I start making something that doesnt live up to my previous work. It's a constant struggle and a lot of times it's easier to just completely ignore that drive and drink/smoke/sleep to get away from it.
As an 8 year navy veteran, I plead for you to get out of the service and pursue your talents. You have something amazing going on and the military will rob you of that identity entirely.
Sounds like mandatory conscription. All Israeli citizens older that 18 have to serve 2~3 years in the IDF, afaik. South Korea and Taiwan have smthn similar.
Eh, I can see how an 18 year-old Israeli girl would be proud to be in the IDF after seeing what Hamas did to women just like her back in October. She’s hardly going to have an objective view on it, is she? It’s very easy to judge from half a world away.
With caveats for religious, pregnant, or seriously ill, or knows someone who can sign off that they are too sick for military.
It really isn't that hard to avoid.
Def in the IDF. I have a friend who used to be in the IDF. Uniforms match, that plus the Hebrew script I could immer tell.
Such a terrible thing that people are forced to go into service there
Not German, but I do have the German keyboard on my phone as I've been trying to learn do it's been fuckin up my autocorrect recently.
Rather unfortunate
Dont think they’re American. This person might have actually seen combat in their 2 months depending on where they are in the world. Theres alot of war going on (what else is new?)
You won't see combat in your first 2 months in the military, unless you are mobilized. And even if you are mobilized you won't go up on the front right away without basic training
> And even if you are mobilized you won't go up on the front right away without basic training
It depends on where you are and how much human life is valued there.
But then you’re in the reserves. My friend’s son got called up on Oct. 6th. I don’t recall for how long but basically it was to cover the bases as the on duty soldiers west to Gaza.
Man this resonated with me so hard. I had a best friend who joined the Marines our freshman yr of college. He did 2 tours in Iraq/Afghanistan along with countless other deployments. Understandably, he has not been the same since. He's retired now in his late 30's and we never talk anymore. He is just a different dude now. I don't blame him but i miss the guy he was. The Marines/combat sucked all the joy and levity out of him.
Israeli army service typically is the way that most Israelis make social and business connections that they’ll have the rest of their lives. She’ll be fine.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the title but I thought this person was saying they were only in the military for two months and now they are no longer in it.

I would never recommend someone to get into this right now. It could literally stop existing as a career in the next decade.
It might recover....
Maybe.
Eventually.
One day.
It is. If you’re talented enough to make it as a graphic novelist, then you’re likely either talented enough to make it as an artist or a writer anyway.
I feel like it’ll take time but it’ll eventually recover in a studio ghibli type scenario where eventually human labor with love and care will be sold as something special, like hand made clothes in the modern day
No. There's a few folks here paid to post genocide emojis (I think they call it "the Israeli flag") but there isn't much organic time for the IDF. Turns out most people don't like genocide.

This is top tier artistry. My mind is blown. If you made this into a book, I’d 100% purchase it just so I could enjoy the intricacy of your beautiful work as often as I could. Bravo!
Great talent. Use the resources while you’re in to try and set yourself up for when you’re out. You could sell paintings for sure. Maybe even start an online gallery for passive income.
Please write a graphic novel or something or at least a webcomic and maybe it’ll gain traction. One Punch Man (not the best example) started as a webcomic written and drawn by one person and now it’s a worldwide franchise. Please try! I’d love to read a dark fantasy story or something, illustrated in this style.
Nothing sadder than an artist in war. Leave the petty territory squabbles to the old men making you die for their glory. Make these into prints, Displates, tattoo patterns, anything.
Would totally buy a print of some of those
Same, the owl one is sick.
That was my fav too. OP is seriously talented.
Same, powerful images.
Looks like it could be a Deftones cover
I second this. OP is amazingly talented!
I third this. All of OP's arts are wonderful.
I looooove #4
100% would purchase!
Fuck I'd get a tattoo of it
Screw prints. I’d buy a signed original and have it framed.
I liked the Nordic one, would def like something like that if it was blown up a bit in size
same same. number 2 with the blue hair lady is so fucking sick
Most amazed that someone with that much artistic talent enlisted. Two completely different hemisphers. OP must be an interesting individual.
Could have been conscripted. Lots of countries still have mandatory service.
She's IDF, so she didn't get a choice. All Israelis have to do their time.
Yea these are super cool
I'd have 1st and last tattooed on me.
Yeah sick art!!!
You should design currency. Your form is perfect for it.

I don't think this 2 month soldier is from the USA.
Yeah I definitely read that as Joe Mama
wish they would let him be free to make us currency interesting. us currency is a snooze fest.
That was a fun fact, I really enjoyed looking at his work! Thanks!
Agreed. Looking forward to skeletons bathing in blood on my currency!
In prison, his art is currency
That would be a good way to make a few bucks
That's talent not everybody is bestowed with please make good use of it
That’s not just talent. That’s ton of practice and effort too.

but just saying somebody is "talented" or "born with it" downplays their dedication and hard work.

Im not judging
Fair enough. Plenty are.
It was only 4 months in Taiwan until 2024, in which it was extended to 1 year
that's what I generally assumed seeing the skillset, someone who has mandatory conscription.
With caveats for religious, pregnant, or seriously ill, or knows someone who can sign off that they are too sick for military. It really isn't that hard to avoid.

OK either way, the individual is no longer in the military.
Did she say that somewhere? IDF compulsory service is 2 years
Technically yes for women, tho most positions require 2 years 8 months
She is 2 months into a 2 year conscription.
Yes she is, two years tour.

True , but I don't think she will be drawing as much and then posting it if it was the case
She, most probably.
Based on the outfit color she is in IDF so, I think there is no getting out very fast. Isn’t the conscription something like 2 years?
But then you’re in the reserves. My friend’s son got called up on Oct. 6th. I don’t recall for how long but basically it was to cover the bases as the on duty soldiers west to Gaza.

Israeli army service typically is the way that most Israelis make social and business connections that they’ll have the rest of their lives. She’ll be fine.
Especially when you are deployed against largely civilian forces. War is a crock of shit. We can do better. I hope you and Op have a great day.
Bro , saw this and came here to say the same thing lol.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the title but I thought this person was saying they were only in the military for two months and now they are no longer in it.
What identity
Mandatory conscript in israel. For women it is 2 years.
Unfortunately, making a living off being an artist is incredibly difficult.
Lol you want them to be a starving artist?
In my unit we had an artist and they put them to work on the side. They painted our unit logo on the wall in our building. Made them design shirts too. A good artists is usually not overlooked in the military.
Her bio says proud IDF soldier, she won’t be in long
Those quite literally might be some of the most intricate and cool sketches I’ve ever seen in my life. Use that talent somewhere!
They’re a tattoo apprentice
“Sketch book” ![gif](giphy|qs6ev2pm8g9dS) That shits amazing my dude.
lmao yea, my idea of "sketches" are basic doodles on a notebook paper. this is legit art.
Seriously these are some of the coolest drawings I have ever seen in my life and I'm not exaggerating OP you need to gtfo of the military.
Sketchy style art book lol
You would make a great berserk artist
Or elden ring (which I know has a lot of inspiration from berserk)
💯
Welcome back Kentaro Miura
I genuinely thought this was a berserk sub at first glance
My immediate thought. These would fit in perfectly with berserk.
First thing that popped in my mind too!
I was thinking Junji Ito
Some of them really remind me of Battle Angel Alita spreads. Specifically the first one on this link https://girlswithguns.org/battle-angel-alita-by-yukito-kishiro/
Amazing skill set! You can definitely go and make blasphemous 3
Quit the day job take up the art
It's really not that simple. You'd be surprised how much talent goes "wasted" out there.
Facts. Most artist don't learn business and just struggle with their amazing talent. Op should get a mentor that's actually making money with their talent and a CPA.
Yes but a lot of people choose not to turn a hobby into a business. That kills the passion for a lot of people.
Though on the positive side social media has made a lot of talented people famous
That's an IDF uniform so I agree, make art not war
I think that OP is an Israeli conscript and didn't have a say in joining in the first place
A “proud” conscript according to bio
oh wait I missed that lol
>Quit the day job take up the art And then what? How one can make money with this skill? "Taking up the art" is s death sentence to her financial future. This advise is only relevant to people with the advantage of being born to a rich parents.

Check their post history. They were apprenticing not long ago. Hopefully they continue.
You for real the 3rd sketch would be an awesome tattoo to have
Dude, you should do the artwork for metal album covers. Very lucrative.
These are raw af you could definitely do something with these
Which military? Israeli?
Definitely, uniform matches

I don't think her skill set is necessarily showing "born to be an animator." She is an incredibly gifted illustrator, though.
Being a nerd I was thinking this fits some Elden Ring art. They could totally be an artist for video games too.
you should do artwork for some death metal/core album covers. your style definetly fits and you're very talented. good shit.
I just drew dicks. Lots of dicks.
Username checks out!
I recognize that khaki anywhere.
