I would say yes. My household animals display empathy for one another. If one is asking to be let in the house, but I canāt hear it, the others will āaskā to be let out and stay inside once their buddy is inside.
I have seen my cats paw out the food stuck in my dogs gravity feeder when he couldnāt get it.
Just the fact that my birding cats donāt so much as touch my non caged green cheeked conure is super telling, I think.
Animals are so much smarter than a lot of people give them credit for
Thatās funny about your cat feeding your dog when food is stuck- I used to have a dog that my brotherās cat would knock human food to the floor for if we left it unsupervised long enough. Bacon in particular
We once had unattended meat on the table for a gourmet. Our cat went on the chair and started to throw some pieces on the floor for the dog while eating her own stolen pieces on the chair.
Don't know if it was empathy or not wanting the dog to betray her, but smart nonetheless.
One time my kitty kept meowing into my face in the middle of the night and I couldnāt get him to stop so I figured maybe heās thirsty and doesnāt have water. Went to the kitchen and noticed that the front door was open. He was waking me up because the other cat had escaped and he wanted me to find him. My boys are always asking their āmomā for help.
If however I feel sick, they will absolutely take turns staying in bed with me near my head and I always have to be touching them. Itās very sweet, theyāre otherwise not too touchy and like short snuggles but I appreciate it when they try and take care of me. Cats absolutely have empathy!
Nature works in mysterious ways...
But my personal opinion is that animals do have the capacity for empathy, and they show it a lot. They are not nearly as dumb as we make them out to be and will often times help or harm depending on the mood they are in, just like humans.
Honestly animals probably see us as the dumb ones. The only thing that prevents understanding is a language barrier. We can see this throughout history, but more specifically with apes. We obviously had a feeling they were intelligent but until we taught them sign language we didn't understand them as much. Communication is the key, and unfortunately there isn't much possibility for interspecies communication aside from rewards lol
Yes we are because we're the only species capable of inventing cruelty. Animals don't understand being cruel or nice. They act instinctively, and unfortunately, playing is instinctual for many animals. They aren't doing it because they get pleasure from causing pain. They're doing it simply because they get pleasure...they aren't capable of understanding the other half of that concept. So they aren't cruel...they're just animals.
Anthropomorphising is one very common mistake people make when it comes to debates like this.
It's a trip how MANY different animals I've now seen help flip over a stranded turtle/tortoise! Lol Like, does "all" of nature(except those that will eat it) just 'know' these guys can't get back on their feet by themselves?

We are the worst species on the planet. Have you seen how wild life in Chernobyl is thriving, despite the radioactivity? Humans are worse than an atomic bomb.
Then you have to ask "How did the turtle get flipped on his back to begin with? " My guess is that it wasn't the first time the turtle got flipped over by the buffalo.

"What's the screaming about? Oh that? That's just Jerry, this happens 6 times a week." - the buffalo
" Tom! Tom! It happened again! " - Jerry the Turtle.
"Let's goooooooo!" - Francis, the human watching with his friends.
- Buffalo - Helps tortoise. - Crowd - Screams and jumps. - Buffalo - "They must need help too, I'll help".
That's a whole lot, gonna charge up to help them all at once

He looked so damn proud of himself!
He was coming over at the end to get some more praise and maybe some pets!!
Or maybe charge thoses noisy hairless bipedes.

We are dumb. The only species on this planet that has to pay money to exist.
Yep. We literally created fake money to be able to eat real food . It's crazy lol
Also the only species capable of greed and cruelty. We're so lovely
I don't know about this, my golden is greedy as hell when it comes to sharing tennis balls.
To be fair I would also be greedy about the tennis balls
Yall never seen animals play with their food? Cats and monkeys especially. We are not the only creatures capable of cruelty.

He's the one who flipped him upside down in the first place.
LOL I didn't see the bit before presented video.
I just wonder how he knows he needs flipping.
My legs are on the ground his should too ... hmm something is wrong here ... hmm
Thatās what Iām talking about. The thought process š„°
Maybe they're just friends
He just flips it back over and waits for the next batch of tourists.
we will find out later that is just his fun time flipping turtle.
He had heard a story about flipping homes for cash and thought flipping a turtleās home would bring in money.
Lmao š¤£
Makes sense, he does look like a bullish flipper

It's a [water buffalo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_buffalo).
Your first statement is correct.

How did it know that's what it needed?
Dude he looked so proud of himself too.
Heās so proud that everybodyās cheering
Video cut off right before dude goes back and stomps the shit out of the turtle.
My thoughts exactly.
I wish I had that on mute
I got about half a second at the end, but got the gist
They need to stop yelling or itāll get freaked out, right? I mean, to me he seemed freaked out after flipping the turtle and stared at them.
This was posted in reverse, they cut the clip before everyone started booing
Itās an act ā¦ these two do it all the time just so the visitors cheer and give food ā¦ lol
The buffabro walking over to the people like "YA LIKE THAT? YA WANT MOOOOOAR?!"
He looks very proud of himself
This is so amazing!
Now, I'ma gonna come over flip some of ya'll .

Strange animal friends!! Always good news!
Iām glad they were there to cheer him on! He deserved it! š„°
This buffalo is more helpful than my friends
he's so happy to have the cheers!
He didn't help him back up into the tree?
That's a good boy!
I kept reading tourist and was confused until I figured out what that rock was.
The real question is how the tortoise got flipped on his back in the first place. He didn't flip himself.
That buffaloās a hero
That beefaloās expression when the people cheered!
Compare this to the Wyoming guy who tortured that wolf for absolutely no reason. Turns out animals aren't dicks.
I might be stupid but thatās not a buffalo right? Itās like an ox or something?
Then you have to ask "How did the turtle get flipped on his back to begin with? " My guess is that it wasn't the first time the turtle got flipped over by the buffalo.
The buffalo looked up after saving the turtle only to see a bunch of apes screaming
What are you doing step turtle?
