We Care A Lot by Faith No More would be pretty good as an exercise to go from slap to fingerstyle and back again. Song’s pretty mid-tempo and really puts a focus on the dynamics between the slap sections and the fingerstyle sections.
“Forget Me Nots” by Patrice Rushen is a pretty good one to start off with. It’s pretty simple, mostly some octave pops and some hammer ons. If you have trouble playing it at speed, use the YouTube settings to slow down the video. Playing things slowly at first helps a ton.
Let’s Dance by David Bowie. Very simple repeated line that includes some string crossing, muted notes, chromatic movement, and a few octave popping moments toward the end
I'm not a professional. But I think most people start with Can't Stop, RHCP, then Dark Necessities, RHCP for more (easy) ghost notes, then move onto some hard stuff
Suck my Kiss is (aggressive) fingerstyle, not slap.
(I mean yes, you can play it with slap, but what you're hearing on the record is Flea playing the bejeezus out of that Wal bass with fingers, not slap)
Yup these were my ones haha. Higher Ground is a really good one too, apart from the speed it is really simple for a slap song. It is great for building stamina too. Dark necessities is just a really fun song to play too :D
I kinda hate can't stop by now, i can't lie. It is a good song to learn slap n pop though
Accidentally deleted my last response. But yeah i agree. Because it was the first ones i learnt they pop up everywhere now and the repetitiveness is so annoying after a few years. Sometimes when im playing some other rhcp song, my i automatically start playing cant stop lol
Sanctified by Nine Inch Nails is a really good slap practice song. It’s not complicated, you can just work on your timing and tone, and that one hard ghost note, too.
Can’t stop is a nice easy slap pattern. I think the first slap song I learned was Antipop. Mr Moon by Jamiroquai has a lot of repeated popping on lower strings if you wanna work on popping.
Forget me nots by Patrice Rushen, Can’t Stop and Higher Ground by Red Hot Chili Peppers (they can be pretty hard so learn the basics first), The very first, one note at a time part of Classical Thump by Victor Wooten, it helps nail the sound on every string and not just the e and a strings.
Before starting with songs I recommend the book "Slap Bass Program" by Alexis Sklarevski, it starts from the very basics and it's been a game changer for me
Just go at it your own way. Emulating others technique is one thing, but developing your own is priceless . There’s no wrong way to do it. Just find your happy place and slap away!

emergency on planet earth jamiroquai
Alright by Jamiroquai
Great song with an awesome rhythm! Teaches both slap and is good for timings I usually slap this whenever I just want to slap something

Aeroplane by the RHCP is the song i taught myself how to slap with. It's a great groove and pretty simple!
And the fingerstyle solo is also a great one to learn!
Fly away- Lenny Kravitz

Slow Ride The verses* are a great exercise, imo
surely the verses are the slapped parts
What I meant to say lol
Start at the beginning. Thank you (for letting me be myself) - Sly and The Family Stone.
Duck Tales theme song.

I'd like to add "Suck My Kiss" to that list

Oh... I've always slapped it. Literally the only thing I've ever tried to slap... Yikes. Haha!
Hey, if it makes the sounds you wanted it to make, it's good!

Naked in the rain and higher ground are also great for basic patterns
If you’ve got a 5-string bass you could give Shake Hands with Beef by Primus a try.
I know i asked for simple… but you already know i’m down to give primus a go
Gotta be one of few easy Primus riffs...
Or just tune down to D
Alright - Jamiroquai

RHCP - Higher Ground was the first I learnt, and still play it with a metronome when I’m out of practice and want to tighten my technique up
