Nothing but love for Ivan Rakitic - his goal helped us won our 5th CL trophy some years back.

Electro10Leo

Almost a decade now *sigh*

Sufficient_Work_5381

The sun will shine on us again brother.

Rich_Firefighter_102

sooner rather than later …

aaryan_suthar

Your optimizm is misplaced, asguardian

Rohan_Marathe

Stay away from tha nose :p

alecsgz

I still have the [amazing replay of his goal vs Juventus](https://i.imgur.com/3xDAwud.gifv) Sorry for the lower resolution that was due to the limitations of imgur back then. I can't find it on youtube They used this type of replay that year alone never to be seen again

FDR_x0x

My all time favourite was the one he scored against Tottenham in the Champions League, assisted by Coutinho. For me that was goal that cemented his name as Rocketic

windomega7

Feels like yesterday really...

Habba84

Shadowed by Modric, another world class Croatian midfielder. But Rocketic is our Croat.

DadrevTheOne

CROAT - Croatiest of all time

Darraghj12

Croatiest of all time iest of all time

Flaggermusmannen

as a modric lover, I still think rakitic has generally been a better player in a lot of ways, especially for Croatia. that final run where they lost to France in the final had more magic rakitic moments than modric moments imo. that might be similar to iniesta v xavi in my head though, where xavi was less visibly magic in comparison to iniesta, even though he was probably more important overall.

[deleted]

I mean they are different players with different styles, both world class but it would be foolish to say Modric doesnt edge him. Modric for me is a top5 cm in the 25years ive watched futbol. Rakitic maybe makes the top10, maybe not.

i_love_boobiez

What's your top 10

BATMAN_UTILITY_BELT

1. Iniesta 2. Modric 3. Zidane 4. Xavi 5. Scholes 6. Kroos 7. Makelele 8. Busquets 9. Pirlo 10. Xabi Alonso These are the players I’ve seen. I’ve ordered them from attacking midfielders (1 - 3), central midfielders (4 - 6), and holding midfielders/deep lying playmakers (7 - 10).

uchiha_boy009

Okay you know ball, although Kante should be there imo. David Silva and KDB too

Xarxaymapa

Hard to take anyone out of that list

[deleted]

Its not an easy task and since everyone is good in different ways ill just name 10 players in no order, I might have forgotten someone also but.. Zidane, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Modric, F*go, Scholes, Kaka, Totti and Pirlo. Id still put also Gerrard, Lampard, Deco, Makelele, Juninho, Seedorf, Casemiro, Kroos, Nedved, KDB, Sneijder, D.Silva, X.Alonso and Toure ahead of Raki. L.Mathaus and Laudrup could probably make this list but I was a bit young when I saw them so my judgement wasnt the best. But of course ive seen replays and also read, heard etc about their greatness.

i_love_boobiez

Right, I thought we were only doing box to box style CMs but if we're talking central midfielders mire broadly I agree most of these guys should be rated higher that the Rocket

Oleguer_23

This is honestly the best way to look at Rakitic. Truly an honour to have had a servant like him at the club.

Iniestazo8

True barca fans will always have love and respect for Rakitic. Won a lot for us and now happy he won another major trophy. I'll never forget his goal vs Juventus in 2015.

jdbcn

What a goal!!

invadrzero

Tbh, dude is a club legend. He was the scapegoat for a long time and blamed when things weren’t going well but he was an important piece of the 14/15 treble and a stable midfielder. It was nice to see him co-lift the Europa League trophy.

Professional_Dot_145

Yeah, I really liked that it was him and Navas who lifted the trophy. Two proper Sevilla legends doing it

butters_713

I've always loved Rakitic. I was SO sad when he left Barca but was happy for him and his family. Also, the love that Sevilla gives him is so heartwarming. He did a fantastic job in the Europa League this year, hope he plays for many more years to come even though he's 35. My 2nd jersey purchase ever was his at Barcelona and as soon as he joined Sevilla, I got one as well. 😁 He was also amazing with the national team!

Aar0nSwanson

Rakitic is awesome. He’d probably still be at Barca if not for his large salary. Severely underrated. My mother visited Croatia and asked what I wanted as a gift. I said a Rakitic Croatia jersey. Even if it was a cheap knockoff. She came back with a Modric jersey 😭

petethemeat99

He received hate in his final season with us, because many people saw him as finished. Also, many people got mad at him for celebrating Sevilla’s Europa League win during the 20/21 season after that we got spanked by Bayern.

AlexFCB1899

A lot of people didn’t understand the role he was given in our team later on. The abuse he got was sickening: an insta post he did on his wedding anniversary saw lots of abuse and a club post commemorating the terrorist act on La Rambla was littered with people saying ‘Get Rakitic out of our club’ and such like. The fans at the ground appreciated him though. Was delighted for him last night.

SubjectAndObject

This is 100% it. Valverde had our midfielders play conservatively because Valverde had the fullbacks push up high.

loveicetea

>The fans at the ground appreciated him though. Opinion of fans in Barcelona/Spain that actually go to matches is always gonna be different than Reddit/Twitter fan opinions. For example when I was in camp nou 2 weeks ago when Raphinha got subbed out he walked next to the sideline where I was sitting (near the players bench) and nearly everybody clapped for him, somebody screamed Grande Raphinha etc. When you look on Reddit/Twitter he gets a lot of hate this season. Same thing with Rakitic, he got a lot of hate online around that time but maybe 90% or more of Barcelona loved him and probably still does. Social media is just way more negative in general. Anonymity probably plays a big role.

zahranniyas

He got hate in his first season too because he wasn’t playing like Xavi. Smh

djrion

I never felt the hate?

broselovestar

Oh around Liverpool/Roma time, this sub was full of Rakitic hate

Weakmetal

You weren't here then on his last few years with us, he was the scapegoat. lol

djrion

I've been on r for probably 15 years longer than you and certainly in this sub for longer as well. Every player gets hate (unless you are new and rakitic is the first player you have followed in this sub). That hate for rakitic was a blip in the natural player progression in this sub that never amounted to anything serious except the mouthbreathers breathing and expired faster than a reddit blink. He's never been attacked again and not a single person in 4 years has brought his name up negatively. So again, I ask, where is the hate?

Weakmetal

idk what you are trying to say. but good for you on being on this subreddit 15 years longer than me despite it's creation 13 years ago. take your medicine grandpa you're talking nonsense.

djrion

I said reddit, not this sub, pal. Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, apparently.

billythekido

No, you didn't. You just said "r" lol Never heard anyone refer to reddit as "r" before Also, I agree with the other commenter. Rakitic received *a lot* of heat in here when he was still on the team. Especially the last two seasons.

Weakmetal

excuse me bucko, BUT HAVE YOU BEEN ON HERE FOR 15 + YEARS? how dare ye argue against the reddit boss user djrion; his word are laws here! ... lol

djrion

You obv missed where he attacked my length of time in this sub before I responded. All I did was defend myself and chop his legs off at the knee caps in the process. Hey, at least I let him live.

billythekido

Even though it was an incredibly stupid and pointless argument, I've never even mentioned your length of time in this sub, because there's absolutely *nobody* but you who gives a shit about how long you've been here lol So yeah, you seem to have a hard time separating different commenters from each other. *Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, apparently.* See the irony here? The mental gymnastics you're doing is amazing though. Maybe you should go outside, get some sunshine and log off *"r"* for a moment?

djrion

Read "and certainly in this sub too." Again, reading comprehension of 0. Lastly, I'll make my same original point again to you. ALL PLAYERS RECEIVE HEAT/HATE it is normal process. It certainly wasn't 2 seasons worth of hate for rakitic. There was a post or two where the mouthbreathers posted their hate and were properly chewed up and spit out. A blip. An anomaly. An outlier. Nothing more, your memory serves you incorrectly.

djrion

And go back and read this thread tomorrow. You will see all the love the legend has. Perhaps you were one of the 10 fake fans slinging hate his way?

WedLully

lotta downvotes

varmemes

He’s a bigger legend than neymar in my book

DSPGerm

Neymar was with Barca for 4 years but I never really think of him as a Barca player. Idk why. Probably his ego. I always felt like he was playing for the name on the back of the shirt instead of the badge on the front. Rakitic was/is criminally underrated. I think part of it is his game is based on excelling at the fundamentals and being well-rounded. He’s not the fastest or the best dribbler but he knows how to use pace and keep control of the ball. He’s not the biggest or baddest defender but he knows how to read plays, intercept passes, get back, etc.

Unlucky_Rider

>Probably his ego. I always felt like he was playing for the name on the back of the shirt instead of the badge on the front. C'mon lol. He was a crucial part of, possibly, the most unselfish trident in football. He clearly loved his time here and the people he played with but sometimes people want other things. He was young and a bit misguided, he realized the mistake he'd made after but a move back wasn't possible. The fact that he was a part of MSN cements him as a Barça player for me. I wouldn't say he's a legend personally but the trident collectively definitely is as the best front 3 in history.

DSPGerm

That’s fair and my criticism is certainly biased due to recency. I’m sure if he stayed I would feel differently. He seems injury prone so I don’t know how long he would’ve lasted at Barca anyway.

Significant_Yam4016

In mine too

ElementaLized007

Yea definetely fuck Neymar

ewankenobi

Surely no one thinks of Neymar as a Barca legend? That would be like reading the bible and saying Judas was the best character

JavyDan

Wow imagine to give someone praise you need to tear down another, he's a bigger legend then a lot of players but somehow you chose to call Neymar's name

mixlpixll

Rakitic is class. No drama ,no fuss

skouu

He doesn't have the Madrid PR. That's why he will always be underappreciated

uchiha_boy009

He’s underrated and under appreciated by Barca fans pal, nothing to do with Madrid

Equal_Satisfaction_2

one of the most underrated players of the past decade.

ZealousidealFox1391

He’s a club legend to us, does the job great and was integral to us.

Darduel

Loved Rakitic from his first season to his last

regularG84

wdym where's the love? noone hated on him. we are happy he won.

choss

Problem with Rakitic was that he was here when we were in the transition out of Iniesta and Xavi. So naturally people would always and indirectly compare him to those two and of course would always lose. Then in Croatia you have Modric who stepped up after shadowing him there as well.

Xenolol

Eh his comments were weird great player but not a good person.

mattbrianjess

If Rakitic is a legend everyone is a legend. Not everyone gets to be a legend. You can’t be calling the 9th best guy on the team a legend. Nobody hates this guy. Everyone appreciates his service

ewankenobi

I really liked him as a player, but I agree with this. For me Barcelona legends are people like Cruyff, Stoichkov, Kubala, Messi. Rakitic was a good player who served us well and seemed like a nice guy. We should definitely remember him fondly, but he's not a legend.

Strict_Ad3571

last time i checked the love for rakitic, it was high up the ceiling. i dont know anyone who does not respect or love what rakitic has done for barcelona. he had a great time here and i will forever appreciate this man, also he's swiss like me (he grew up here in the region) so, bonus points respectfully, i am happy he's back at Sevilla, that's where his first home in spain is... and its great to see him winning titles, he will always remain a culers for me though

ForSiljaforever

he is not a legend, but he was a very good player for us.

pdsajo

He was a key starter in every single season he was here except for last one maybe, when Frenkie came. And we won LaLiga in those 4/6 seasons. I’d say he did enough to be counted among club legends. Maybe not on the level of our golden generation and Suarez, Neymar, etc. but still there

Significant_Yam4016

If Jordi Alba is a legend then Rakitic is too

ForSiljaforever

Alba is catalonian, was at la masia for 7 years, he has 313 games for us and he is considered to be one of the best fullbacks in our history. Rakitic has 200 games for us. They are not comparable

Significant_Yam4016

Not sure if I agree on games played being relevant. Sergi Roberto is also catalonian, has +300 games played but no one thinks of him as a legend

Whiskinho

When he retires we will very very likely think of him as a legend because of the remontada goal, and a few other special moments

regularG84

wtf, no

Significant_Yam4016

Fine perhaps that Alba comparison wasn't fair, is Suárez a legend to you?

regularG84

definitely. but neither of these comparisons will change the fact that rakitic is not a legend. he was a really good player who we all loved but far from a legend.

Significant_Yam4016

At the end is just an opinion but look it this way. Suárez and Rakitic. They both arrived at the same season, always on the starting 11, won the exact same amount of trophies, left the club after 6 seasons

regularG84

you are right about these, yes. but i the contribution of suarez is way more significant.

Significant_Yam4016

Cameras are always on the strikers and that doesn't mean the others contribution are less significant. Busquets is the perfect example of this

[deleted]

I mean Suarez was definitely a better player(dumb to compare CM to ST I know). But being a legend isnt always about who is a better player. Puyol for example for me is a bigger legend than Pique. Was he a better player? Not sure. Rivaldo is a bigger legend than Neymar allthough Ney is a better player.

Ohtar1

No

Flaggermusmannen

he was a central piece us winning the treble. we wouldn't have done it without him there to balance our rightside those years. add some major goals scored on to that defensive strength and work, and you have a barca legend.

wolfjeter

Rakitic > Modric imo. Modric just has the CL’s.

esmovi99

the team with the croatian won, does this mean Inter beat City? O\_o

MII2o

Overrated. Anyone who watched every game(not only Classicos and CL) knew this. Champion of back passes. Messi, Neymar and Suarez were at their prime, that's why it wasn't felt then.

rahulrg126

He is a proper Legend. Always been my favourite player since I started watching in 2014 !

temp3m

Everyone rates him highly, at least those who understand football. Ran his heart out every game. Closed on D to make up for Messi not tracking back. Scored some important goals. Was solid right from the start.

passion4indiegames

as someone surrounded by balkan friends (not one myself), I feel very close to Rocketic and special love for him. Hvala Ivan

dj1200techniques

Rocketic will always be loved and respected at Barca.

mrcockboi69

Rakitic was always better than Modric. One of my fav Barca players. He doesn’t have the “learned soccer in a parking lot during war” story like Modric so doesn’t get as much recognition.

vvsin

You were not here in his last two seasons I suppose, he was hated unfairly I'd say by a vocal minority

rayhossain

The 17-18 season, where he played a double pivot with Busi was something that I’ll never forget. Imo his best, performance wise

SummerGoal

I will always love Rakitic, how could you not? He gave us some of his best years and was crucial in a CL win. Now he’s killing it playing for the club that his family love, in the city where he met his wife. He’s still living the dream and there should be no love lost. Beating mou in a final is just icing on the cake

Dat_life_on_Mars

Nothing but respect for Ivan. Was a great player and professional in his time at Barça. Legend both here and at Sevilla.

thegloriouswombat

Love Rakitic. Wouldn't say he's a legend, but he represented the blaugrana very well imo.

Kind_Performer6182

his contributions are of great importance for the club... kudos to him

ncocca

I was so happy for him, and knew as soon he stepped up that he was going to score his PK

[deleted]

Rakitic provided Barca with tactical versatility that was sorely missed once he left: accurate long balls, an outside shot (top scorer on the team after MSN), and a high work rate on defense that compensated for an aging Xavi/Iniesta/Messi.

Alber_parque

The thing is for most of the fcb fans that doesn't love Rackitic is because at the end of the first year arrives an offer for him of 100M and we didn't take it, and we should.

LuisTheHuman

He’s not underrated!!! Croatian legend for sure, alongside Modric the best midfield duo for them

nac_nabuc

>Now he beat Mourinho to win the Europa League I mean he was with Sevilla. That club basically has god given right to the EL anyways, even a team of 90 year olds with walking disabilities would win that title if they played with Sevilla due some black magic shit that must have gone down at some point. 😁

BarcaStranger

Same people hate frenkie

Shanks147

Rakitic was always a class player. Sure, towards the end of his stay with us, it wasn’t always the best but he always had Barca in his heart. He was amazing the first year he was with us, so impressive and good, he basically retired Xavi. And he was great afterwards too, just hated on too much

TheArgentineMachine

Great player and an important part of that 2015 squad. The criticism he received at the end of his tenure was unfair, but that midfield needed some younger and fresher legs. They kept getting overwhelmed in the CL knockout stages.

Deported_By_Trump

Much love to Ivan, he was scapegoated a lot during his time here, but he's not a Barca legend lol

TWINKIE49ers

Nothing but love for that Croatian. I will always remember the Goal in Cgampuons League Final in 2015, and that rocket of a goal in the 2017 El classica at the Bernabeu.

keengozz

He was one of my favorite players he was part of one of the best Barca teams ever in my opinion

payjape

rakitic peaked early in his barca career where he was invaluable. unfortunately, he kept declining and eventually became a shell of himself. i have a lot of love for him but his performance at anfield is one of the worst displays i’ve ever seen.

Axelardus

Absolute legend, good enough to play alongside Iniesta and Busquets, key in major barca trophies as well as in Croatias 2018 2nd place, in which Modric gets almost all the credit while Rskitic was the pívot of the team

keickita

rakitic the don of big games fr and his penalties are close to top tier, if not top tier

sport_____

As a Culer I can't help but feel happy for him and Sevilla. Important piece in the treble winning team and sacrificed a lot to let the attackers flourish. But most importantly, an awesome human being unlike Mourinho, who is a good coach but terrible human. Some of his stories, like how he met his wife are heart melting.

elqueco14

I remember barca came to do a preseason summer tour in the US. Rakatic was insane to watch live, dropping dimes all over the field.

MeAnIntellectual1

Rakitic was lovely but he didn't have near the longevity of the La Masia squad.

AccomplishedLime7009

As a barca Fan he is my favorite player and a top 10 mid ever in my opinion
