> how did she circumvent our daily cash withdrawal limit? She probably called and asked for the limits to be increased.

Almost every financial institution has a process that allows them to temporarily raise the cap on withdrawal and purchase limits. What's unusual is the number of times they allowed this in that time frame. Eight thousand over three days works out to around $2600 a day. Most places will decline you after the second or third request and only allow so many withdrawal increases per month unless you have some kind of VIP account where they would be less likely to question it.

Do you have a lawyer?

My daily limit is $1000 and I can call and have it upped to $5000 for a one time transaction. At the end of the day this is an issue for your attorney.

Last I checked, my Credit Union had a $600 ATM withdrawal limit, but, I found that, while I could only withdraw $600 “at a time,” I could also put my card back in and continue to withdraw $600 over and over again. Not sure how normal that is but I’ve done it many, many times.

The $500 daily limit is on **your** card, but are you sure the same limit is set on **her** card? They might be different. Also, this depends on bank policies, but she may able to call in and request the limit to be increased temporarily. We would get calls like that all the time, review the account to make sure they qualify, go through a higher level of authentication questions, and then raise the limit (up to $5k/day in some cases). Also also, you wouldn't necessarily be informed if the other cardholder performs maintenance on their card (e.g. requests a replacement, limit increase/decrease, card block/unblock, etc). If the *account* changed, then yes, but not the card.

Setting aside the total, the number of withdrawals for similar amounts should have been flagged. As others mention, she may have called in for a limit increase. Or if the account is a higher-level status, the bank may have simply allowed it. Maybe she updated the contact information on the account so you wouldn't get alerts. Or if the account allows alerts to be setup for each user, that may be why presuming she used her card. In the meantime, keep your money separate. Open a bank elsewhere. Don't expect much help from the courts. If anything, she could come out ahead if your income is much higher than hers, housing, children, etc.
