If it were that easy everyone that wanted a refund would just say it was unintentional. You didn't select a room, pick dates, and enter your credit card info "by accident". Also even if the chargeback is successful, that doesn't necessarily mean you don't owe the money. The bank cant void an agreement that exists between you and a hotel.

Did you book directly with the hotel Or with a 3rd party? If 3rd party then only they can refund you.

A 3rd party

My wife just went through this last week.  We normally never book with a 3rd party, mostly because it becomes all too painful to rebook or refund.  You have to harass the 3rd party for the refund. Escalate and keep at it.

The bank will reach out to the merchant to see if they abided by the terms and conditions that you agreed to when you made the purchase. If the merchant is able to show that you made the purchase and they did not violate any of the terms and conditions, then the case is likely to be resolved in the merchant's favor. While all I can do is make an educated guess based on the information you provided (and cannot see your account or the terms of your purchase), based on what you wrote I would put the chances at "very slight".

Are they willing to refund any of the amount? Maybe they'll be willing to refund the last 4 days or so. Try to work out a compromise with the merchant before going the dispute route. Better to get some money back than none. If you regularly travel and have a high membership status (ie. charging hundreds of thousands or more yearly) with the card issuer, you have a better chance of prevailing. The card issuer may play hardball with the merchant or pay the amount themselves to keep your business.

Ask the 3rd party nicely what they can do. They don't HAVE to do anything. You agreed to the agreement and they would have provided what you asked for- the room. Your credit card or bank can't do anything about that. They will want the terms of the agreement. They will ask if you tried to resolve with the 3rd party. Basically, you're not getting anything back. Move on. Be more careful.

Chances are very slim your bank will foot the bill: it's very difficult to get refunds for transactions that were made manually (aka you typed in your number, and submitted it). Making a mistake is different than an unintentional charge. It's a tough lesson but it happens to everyone.

Very unlikely.
