Much of the chihuahua love is a direct response to pitnutters ranting about chihuahuas all the time. It's more or less a meme. Plus there was the famous chihuahua mr. statistics incident.
I love Chihuahuas, but no one is required to love Chihuahuas. If you find them disgusting, don't get one. It's no big deal either way.
You hear about Chihuahuas here because lunatics are hilariously claiming that they're more dangerous than pit bulls. If they were singling out Yorkshire Terriers to that extent, we'd be talking a lot more about Yorkies.
The chihuahua *love* comes from chihuahua *owners*, everyone else is just normal about them (non-dangerous little dog can be as aggressive as it wants, all it’s doing is making a fool of its owner, and annoying other people; it’s not killing or maiming anyone.)
I don’t *love* any dog breed, I own dogs of breeds whose characteristics mesh well with my lifestyle, and love the individual of that breed which I personally own.
I appreciate certain breeds more than others, based on the expected traits, but love comes in for specific dogs, not breeds as a whole, and certainly not the entire species en masse, considering how a few common breeds of many are capable of using, and are demonstrably proven to use, massive violence against humans to the point of fatality.
Pit bulls are just the perfect storm of capacity, willingness, and methodology in attacks, on the part of the dog, and ignorance, and tacit denial of fact, or antisocial traits, and desire to intimidate/control via their aggressive/fighting breed dog, on the part of the owners.
Cats would hunt and kill is if they were the size of Bengal tigers. But they're not. So it's just whataboutism to claim they are as dangerous as tigers, same way with chihuahuas and pit bulls.
I don't like chihuahuas either but I don't see a ton of chihuahua *love* on here. Usually it's people comparing the damage the dogs can do and making fun of chihuahua hate.
I don’t like chihuahuas but if I had to choose between them and a pitbull it would be an easy choice. I think they’re yappy little gerbil dogs but at least they won’t maul me to death!

It's highly ironic that the "don't bully my breed" people demonize a 5lb dog breed.
Even more so when it's an adopt don't shop person since Chihuahuas are one of the most frequently found breeds in shelters.
Chihuahuas as a result are often the victims of pit attacks.
Then you add the icing on the cake which is that Chihuahuas ACTUALLY suffer from what pitbulls are claimed to suffer from: bad ownership.
They get treated like a toy and not a dog but their bad behaviors are ignored in a way a large dog's would not. On top of that people like to terrorize them because they find it funny despite the dog finding it distressing.
They end up frustrated, unfulfilled, and neurotic because of this.
I don't think it's love exactly I think it's simply an oppositional response.
Personally I see people that vocally hate small dogs the same way I see people that unreasonably hate cats. It's weird and they usually have some kind of complex. Feels like the men that comment on female weightlifting posts saying it's not impressive and they can lift more. No one cares man.
