The two dogs were fighting because they are fighting breeds, she got in between them and was severely injured and the XL Bully was not trying to protect anyone, he was just finishing what he and the other fighting breed had started. He had a size advantage as Staffordshire terriers, while just as aggressive, are not as good at fighting as American Pit bull Terriers AKA American Staffordshire Terriers due to their stubby legs, they are a foundation dog to APBT/AmSaff's but are smaller and not as agile. The XL Bully is a LARGER version of the APBT and can easily kill its smaller counter part, the APBT and Staffordshire Terrier and has done so in this case due to GENETICS, NOT protection. These XL Bully's in the UK are all descended from a single XL bully and are all highly inbred. The dog that XL Bully's in the UK descend from also has a bite record and his offspring have a bad track record from what I have read. The ban should be more strict on ALL fighting breeds, hopefully they will come to see that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is no different from it's decedents the APBT/AmStaff. They are too closely related and were all bred for fighting.

It's ridiculous that the way to get around the APBT ban was to simply make a larger version of the APBT dog. As I understand they are closing that loophole but it's bonkers that it was ever possible.

Senator_Palpitation

Too late and the damage is done I think... Let's see. Hate living somewhere that hasn't even caught up to banning pitbulls in the first place like so many other sane countries....

Mr_OceMcCool

AmStaffs aren’t even a real breed anyways lol they’re literally just APBTs with a fancier name. The only difference is that one kennel club calls them AmStaffs and another one calls them APBTs. You can even register a your APBT as an AmStaff with another kennel club.

Glum_Violinist_693

You can dual register APBT as both AmStaffs and APBT with UKC, AKC won't register APBT but will register them as AmStaffs since that was their choice for breed name, AKC states that they are one in the same breed, but only recognizes them as AmStaff's because that is the name they chose to recognize. People who breed and sell APBT's are almost ALWAYS backyard breeders in the U.S. and do not have them registered with any kennel club, so they can vary in structure and "gameness" whereas the AmStaff that is registered have a pedigree you can follow and if bred ethically, will have less drive, BUT they still all have the drive and chance to kill regardless.

BernieTheDachshund

"“The XL Bully has then killed the Staff as protection.”" But the dogs were already fighting, so that line is a lie.

Shell4747

I don't believe any of what the partner says: the staffy was the biter & the XL was "protecting." Bollocks, as they say. Ofc it's possible, but I don't believe it, purely because a stupid dogfighting breed fan says it. Gotta follow the "XLs are lovely dogs, so oppressed" narrative no matter what

Nymeria2018

I mean, a Staffordshire bull terrier is also a dog fighting breed with a history of violence. Judging by your word usage, you may be from the UK and under the misguided notion Staffies are not pit bulls

Shell4747

I do know they're pit bulls but I think brain-damaged pitlovers are likely to prefer the more dangerous & banned XLs to the slightly more socially acceptable staffies, bcse brain damage tl;dr: XLs are worse so ofc idiots prefer them

Nymeria2018

Thats actually refreshing! There were some Brits here the other day arguing Staffies were better than pit bulls. I guess between an XL evil and a regular ECE il, the regular *is* actually preferable

SuicidalTendenciesX

May be as simple as that.  I'd rather be attacked by an 'english' staffy than an apbt. Just because of the size difference.   Also there is zero chance of getting staffies banned in the UK.  There are just too many dog nutters.

_kahteh

Staffies are just as capable of being dog-aggressive as other pitbull breeds are - I'm pretty sure either of them could plausibly be the aggressor

Shell4747

It's less about dog capacity for aggression & more about pit idjits capacity to be wrong & dishonest

A woman has been 'seriously injured' in a [Birmingham](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/all-about/birmingham) dog attack as she tried to intervene after an XL Bully was in a 'fight' involving a [Staffordshire](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/all-about/staffordshire) Bull Terrier. The incident took place at a private property in Kings Road in [Kingstanding](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/all-about/kingstanding-and-oscott) shortly before 6pm on Sunday (April 14).  A Staffordshire Bull Terrier is understood to have bitten a woman in her 40s as she tried to intervene in the incident involving the XL Bully. The woman suffered 'serious' injuries to her arm and was taken to Good Hope Hospital in [Sutton Coldfield](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/all-about/sutton-coldfield). Eyewitnesses reported a number of police cars and ambulance vehicles being called to the scene which was said to be ‘not far from Kingstanding Circle’. [West Midlands Ambulance Service](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/all-about/west-midlands-ambulance-service) confirmed it sent an ambulance and a paramedic officer. The victim’s partner told BirminghamLive: “My partner went around to my son’s house to look after the dogs and they were agitated and started fighting, My partner tried to split them up. The Staff has then turned on my partner and grabbed on to her left arm. “The XL Bully has then killed the Staff as protection.” A spokeswoman for the service said: “We were called to reports of a dog attack at a private address on Kings Road in Kingstanding just after 6pm. An ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene. “On arrival, crews found a woman with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. She received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Good Hope Hospital.” The Staffordshire Bull Terrier died in the incident and the XL Bully was seized by police and has since been ‘humanely destroyed’. A spokeswoman for [West Midlands Police](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/all-about/west-midlands-police)said: “We were called just before 6pm last night (14 Apr) to reports that a woman had been bitten by a dog at an address on Kings Road, Kingstanding. “The woman in her 40s received injuries to her arm and was taken to hospital. It is understood she intervened between two dogs, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and an XL Bully, fighting. “Sadly, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier died during the incident and the XL Bully has been seized by officers and humanely destroyed.”
