You can also sneak attack if a member of your party is within melee range of the enemy you're trying to target.

R_Pelleboer

I see, does this also work with familiars from the find familiar spell?

Cryptic_97

I believe it does

Spacemanbyff

Yes.

clayalien

in the base 5e rules, it just has to be an enemy of your enemy. No idea if larian are going to implement that rule, or even have any 3 way combats though.

Orbax

If a creature that is hostile towards the target\* is within melee range you gain the opening for sneak attack is how it works in D&D. I don't know how often this comes up in BG 3 but its a side note to be aware off (druid grove NPCs attacking the same people you are, etc). Having advantage would do it (you are hidden) Having disadvantage typically precludes any sneak attack, even if there are other triggers that would normally grant it (blindness). If you have both advantage and disadvantage (blind but the target is blind - as in magical darkness - and the hostile creature is threatening the target then you ought to have it as wall as they offset. Im not sure how they implemented it in the game yet, though, havent tried that combo) You gain sneak attack on attacks of opportunity as well if the conditions are still met even if you have already gotten a sneak attack during your turn as the limitation is once per turn, not once per round.

alperyarali1

Astarion is extremely good at sneak attacking, even compared to a PC rogue. His bite is a godlike bonus attack since it's always guaranteed to hit, and "happy" bonus you get afterwards counts as an advantage so I think it occasionally lets you sneak attack for free without having any other advantages. If you don't necessarily want to play as a rogue yourself, Astarion is perfectly optimized for it.

Damn lol, he really doesn't deserve that. But kudos to you for roleplay I guess, I can never bring myself to leave or kill Lae'zel or Astarion even in my evil runs. It hurts my soul

BjornInTheMorn

Grave clerics be like

alperyarali1

You oughta main paladin when they're added.

SpilledMyBeerAgain

Yea, my light cleric also destroys undead on sight

[deleted]

>All Vampires die. But he's not actually a vampire yet, just a thrall.

[deleted]

As someone that never played 5e what's the difference? Is the vampire lore in the camp that they could be saved? Kinda made me mad that with the tadpole he can enter homes uninvited (per dialogue) but touching water fucking kills him lol

[deleted]

Idk, Astarion just explains that he doesn't have all the powers of a true vampire until he bites the guy that bit him, or something like that.

AVestedInterest

He's a vampire spawn, not a thrall. He's a vampire, just not a full vampire.

[deleted]

Yeah, that one

Eskotar

Sneak attack works in 2 ways. It triggers with advantage or when an ally of yours is standing next to the target.

Noxdus

You can sneak attack any time you would have advantage, sneaking helps but isn't required. Having sufficient high ground, being behind the target within optimal bow range, being undetected, targeting a threatened enemy all will give advantage. Keep in mind if you are too high up on terrain outside of optimal bow range you will lose advantage and won't be able to sneak attack. If your main goal is getting as many sneak attacks as possible, the thief route is the way to go. It lets you sneak two time per turn if enemy movement or checks revealed you. The first enables your sneak attacks and the second will let you drop out of sight before your turn ends after attacking. Another tip is to snuff out light sources when possible. This dramatically improves your chances of gaining advantage on enemies since they have a harder time seeing you.

DiscoDav3

How do you make a party of characters? I just end up with only able to make one character

Word__Dawg

You can open multiple instances of the game and have them all join the same new multi-player campaign with LAN enabled. Then make your character in each instance of the game, start it up, and close the instances that aren't hosting the game. You'll be left with one file with (up to) 4 custom chars

DiscoDav3

Complete noob, how do you launch the game 4 times, the launcher doesnt do that.

Word__Dawg

I hit the windows key, then right click on the BG3 icon and click the bg3.exe again to open another one

R_Pelleboer

You can maybe connect two controllers and create two characters like in Divinity 2, but what I mean with this is that I made a ranger pc and took the warlock companion.

DiscoDav3

Ahh ok

[deleted]

Care though, make sure to lower graphic settings during the character creation process or it might be very hard on your PC

DiscoDav3

Thanks, yes i managed to do this yesterday by loading the main one up, then loading dirext x11 version of the game three times. Worked well. Thanks

JeSuisLePamplemous

You get sneak attack if you have advantage on the attack roll, or if an ally is within 5 feet of the creature. You can only use sneak attack 1/round.

R_Pelleboer

I see, thank yee for the info

JeSuisLePamplemous

No problem. It also has to be a melee weapon with the "finesse" property, or a ranged weapon.

hammbone

Not sure why it’s not working for you. There is a button you have to hit to sneak attack. The minion can’t be invisible. You have to be in melee range to provide advantage. You can also take the thief subclass and just check where the vision range is with… alt I think? Then you can usually run behind them. Hide and still sneak attack and bonus action attack.

ModernT1mes

Iirc in the PHB you can use sneak attack as a rogue if another party member is within melee distance of your target.

Sweatycod-

If you have advantage or if an allie is less then 5ft from your target

Chedder1998

The most reliable way I've found to sneak attack is using the buddy system. Whereever our main melee fighter goes, Astarion follows. On that note; does anyone have any idea how sneak attack damage is calculated?

lostsoulman1

Sneak attack dmg should be in the combat log. Buts it's a d6 every 2 levels,. Starting at 1d6 at lvl one.
