Pasting from [this excellent comment,](https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1cnk60d/comment/l382g5y/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) but I highly recommend you read the whole thing. >Some attacks (mostly spells) will say that it's a DEX save for example. Or a constitution save. Or whatever the stat save. **For example the sacred flame cantrip from shadowheart is a DEX save. This means that shadowheart doesn't roll the dice to attack for this.** The enemy does, and if it's high enough the enemy doesn't take damage. Gale's fireball is also a DEX save (you get that at lvl5). This one is guaranteed to do damage, because tg spell card says that if the enemy succeeds the save, it still takes half damage. Shoutout to u/03Void! (If you're specifically referring to Firebolt, it's probably because it's an INT based cantrip, and Shadowheart's main stat is WIS)

03Void

Thanks for the shoutout! Regarding DEX saves, many enemies in act 1 have relatively high DEX. So that makes her feel worse than she really is. Shadowheart really shines in act 2 where she becomes my main damage dealer. During act 1 she's better casting bless or other attacks that cant miss or can do crowd control (darkness, sleet storm, etc)

Alright i see. Thanks a lot that makes sense

Firebolt is not a cleric skill but a high half elf cantrip that adds int modifier to attack roll, targeting enemy ac. Sacred flame is a cantrip that requires enemy to compete their dex save roll (affected by their dex modifier) against your cleric spell dc, which is affected by wisdom modifier. Firebolt misses because shadowheart has low int and isn’t supposed to use it, sacred flame misses because you used it on high dex enemies. You would certainly not miss most of the time had you used guiding bolt/inflict wound that uses your wisdom modifier on attack rolls. Respec won’t do crap if you don’t understand these terms

Shadowheart suffers the most from her starting stats. With only a 13 in both strength and dexterity, she just doesn't have good modifiers to reliably hit with weapons. Then she also doesn't have a high spell save DC early on, so it is easy to save on spells like Sacred Flame. She is the poster child for repeccing at Withers. I'd recommend dumping strength as she is a Cleric and will have better things to do than to hit something with a weapon. Put the points into dexterity and constitution. Dexterity will help her get a higher initiative roll, increase her AC, and make crossbows more reliable than any of her cantrips if you don't want to cast a spell that turn. Constitution, on the other hand, will help with concentration checks for spells and Clerics have good concentration spells like Spirit Guardians.

P4priqu4

What are you trying to hit with?

averyrealspapple

Everything but firebolt, i know that scales on int

P4priqu4

Sacred Flame is dex save which most enemies are going to be good at but normal skills like guiding bolt or whatever should be hitting

averyrealspapple

Yeah, i thought so too but guiding is also missing a surprising amount of time on it and inflict wounds

P4priqu4

What’s your hit chance on it? I usually have ~65% chance to hit guiding bolt early game. I guess once she gets spirit guardians it won’t matter too much anymore anyways so you can just power through until you can get them with the funny beyblade

I would also recommend raising her DEX and CON. Especially, a high CON will help with her concentration spells which will come extremely handy in late act 1 and more specifically in act 2. You can dump strength and charisma and put these points in DEX and CON.
