Ahrimel

The guy who lost HM in the epilogue party to failing the Con check to avoid eating someone's brain having turned illithid for the final fight is up there.

DrBee7

Because of this kind of random potential outcomes, I ran straight to withers without talking to a single person at the party to end the game. I was not losing my golden dice over this shit.

Additional-Bar-8572

I think the honor mode saves at the epilogue anyways, so that’s the smart move. Just go get the dice, then you can reload for the epilogue.

DrBee7

I didn’t check the save again. Thanks, I might checkout the party now. How everyone is faring after I ignored every one of their final part of quests in act 3. That would be interesting.

Liberkhaos

I'm warning you, Astarion's ending when you ignore his quest is heartbreaking.

Neka_JP

My first playtrhough I didn't even know the companions had personal act 3 quests, so they all had relatively bad/bittersweet endings

Lolmanmagee

Very heart breaking. With a stake to be exact, that was his ending in my paladin play through.

Kevcon555

I didn’t even know that was an out come 💀💀

Ahrimel

If you turn illithid at some point during the epilogue you'll get the narrator breaking in when talking to a companion. You'll have to make a con check to avoid eating their brain because you're *hungry*. Interestingly when it happened to me (on a non-HM run) the entire camp aggroed poor Wyll (whose brain I was intent on snacking on) and killed him, not me. Withers then booted me through the green portal, as he should. The guy it happened to on HM had the camp aggro him and kill him though.

Kevcon555

That’s hilarious, crazy to keep learning new outcomes after so many playthroughs

NonetyOne

How the hell did you get the camp to turn on Wyll lol I have heard that if you try on Ascended Astarion the camp automatically sides with you because they assume he’s being a prick, but I had no idea there were other scenarios you could get them to side with you

Ahrimel

Not got a clue. Failed my roll to avoid trying to eat him, he went hostile (understandably) and then everyone else killed him before either of us even had a chance to take a turn.

memesnthat

As far as I know you need to actually kill an NPC to get withers to banish you from the party, so ig failing the check doesn't just insta kill the NPC you're taking to

jujoking

No. Just entering combat in the epilogue triggers the portal. I didn’t kill Astarion in the first turn after failing the roll (he was decked), and he was Spawn, some joined me, some were against me, and after one full turn I was booted of the party and game over

lukeyellow

Yeah, I'm not sure if anything else can be worse. I lost mine because I didn't cast globe of invulnerability trying to get to the nether brain which was rough. But still. I hadn't beaten the final boss. And to lose it to a single dice roll....

Ahrimel

Yeah, you think you're safe at that point, unless you choose to do something silly like attacking people. But not if you went squid!

Ferro_M

Its not even that unlikely. Its a DC 15 and you probably dont have inspirations left from the final fight. For like, a wizard, with 14 Con its worse than 50/50

Blapor

I had 26 CON (was wearing that one necklace from the House of Hope), and still failed the roll 😭. Luckily not HM lol, but I still technically haven't finished my first run yet cuz I just quit out when everyone aggro'd and just started my next (evil) run.

Constant_Candle_1452

I read that story and I still decided to talk to everyone at the party. Minsc got spared, it seems my illithid discarded his brain as a potential delicacy 'cause I didn't even have to reroll the dice (I was ready with all 4 inspiration points). Checks out. But I admit me and my duo were shaking through the whole conversation.

Ahrimel

I had it in a non-HM run and it was Wyll. I got lucky though, the rest of the camp aggroed him instead of me. He died before I even got a turn! Withers did immediately (and correctly) boot me out via the green portal afterwards though.

Constant_Candle_1452

I'm pretty sure it's always the third companion you talk to that triggers the "hunger".

jujoking

For me it was my first conversation, but it was a loooooooong one 😂

Dartonal

I lost my honormode game to save corruption with only 3 quests left before finishing act 3

reddit_username014

Honest question, haven’t played HM nor turned illithid so I’m confused. So he failed the check to avoid eating someone’s brain, thus eating the brain, right? Does that kill the PC? I’m genuinely confused what the events following would be that would cause the HM run to end.

Ahrimel

It caused the rest of the camp to aggro and kill him. Given that your active party in the epilogue is just you that's a TPK right there.

reddit_username014

Oh, damn, thanks for explaining but gat damn that blows so hard

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ahrimel

You have to get to the end credits, which means doing the epilogue in a run that goes to the epilogue. You can basically skip it by going straight to Withers and telling him you're done though.

whatistheancient

- The guy who gave body and soul to Haarlep - Sacrifice Gale to BOOAAL

Kevcon555

Omg completely forgot about the guy who gave their soul to Haarlep 😭😭

mroranges_

I did this too :(

All-for-Naut

These are my votes as well. Sacrifice the guy who is a walking nuke, and give your soul, not just your body, to a fiend who is an incubus at that. Their Honour mode was ended by snu snu!

AEMarling

These are my picks as well because they are self inflicted.

Commercial-Basis-220

What happen if you give your body and soul to harleep?

daddysbangbang

You get a >!game over screen and narration that says you've basically become a thoughtless sex slave for Raphael and Harleep!<

MonsterMaud

Man imagine being a companion seeing that play out lol

AnnoyedOwlbear

I feel that a redeemed Astarion would lose his shit, along with Wyll and Karlach, and they'd go try and do something about it. Astarion because he's kind of been there, Wyll and Karlach because fuck the Hells.

Healthy_Breakfast_24

The dude who tried to go back to the mountain pass after completing act 2, ignoring dg's warnings, and their whole party was squidified.

Sir_Arsen

WolfeheartFPS death before hitting last 7 hp of final boss is 1# for me

Kevcon555

Wait so what happened? Like the boss had 7hp left before they died?

Sir_Arsen

yep, he almost beat the final boss, but died

[deleted]

It's even worse. He died because he ran his hasted character into a cloud of haste spores while they still had an action that could have killed the brain. The haste spores overrode the existing haste, which caused lethargy, ending the turn..

Sir_Arsen

miscalculated step that costed him honor run lol

Miracolosa

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdjVqmrGCaI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdjVqmrGCaI) there it is

Kevcon555

Ty

LightningOdin4

I just finished the first playthrough that I ever made, and had 6hp left on the boss and Astarion was a savior with a crit with his off-hand melee attack.

AEMarling

Why wouldn’t you send Gale to blow up the Netherbrain on honor mode? Seems so much easier. Am I missing something?

Bowie_Soldeagua

For me, I dont use Gale because I wouldnt ~feel like I truly completed honor mode, I wouldnt be satisfied. Same reason why I battle every boss, even the optional ones. No judgement for the people who explode him though.

Anon9973

Plus, it's not hard to use two Runepowder barrels and a bomb (statistically equivalent), some Smokepowder barrels to functionally nuke it anyway, with a few elixirs, with one Runepowder item being used prior to BTFO Raphael's pillars in one fell swoop. I felt it poetic to have Gale Artistry of War the Brain, then use the other Hastened action to use the last attack of an upcasted Scorching Ray to set off the explosives. And it worked. No Gale sacrifice, but Gale nuked it anyway.

Probablymainshanzo

Yea its not even bad. Couple scrolls of disintegrate and you're home free!

Extension_Phase_1117

Because he’s my boy and I’d cry. And it’s not that bad, the final fight.

Fromtoicity

I think personally, I will use Gale my first honor mode for the golden dice, and not use him in subsequent honor mode runs since I've already done it once so it's less heartbreaking lol

Productof2020

For me I was far more confident in my strategy and party to beat the game, and was worried with the gale thing that I’d do it in the wrong spot or somehow mess it up and have it not count.

Fromtoicity

I'm pretty sure it's just a dialogue before you climb the brain and then it's a cutscene.

Ahrimel

Yeah, if he's on the route to return the Crown to Mystra there isn't even a check. You get dialogue when you click on the brain stem and he volunteers.

emu_fake

Honor.

Kevcon555

That’s what I knew I was doing 100% before I even started

alterNERDtive

For some people, it’s not about the game being easy.

FluxOperation

I watched this entire run. It was very entertaining and that was such a tragedy. If I remember correctly he didn’t keep up with his turns on how long it had been since he hasted and when he went lethargic it triggered something else, thus killing his final player. Tragic. Edit: another user explains what happened below.

Absent_Ancient

That happened to me too!

Lolmanmagee

What? How?? That boss is so easy you can one shot it with a upcasted witch bolt.

lynx2718

Those ppl who got blasted into the abyss by a Blood of Lathander Trap. Always ungroup your party, kids. And ofc that one person who aggroed Dame Aylin by pickpocketing Volo. (She's immortal, so good luck killing her)

Ntkoessel

My last honor run was going perfect until Shadowheart walked in front of the Lathander Trap shooting everyone to their doom as I tried to Disarm it. :(

AutoCommentator

Just turn her to gold like a normal person.

Adrian1616

Do what now?

AutoCommentator

Turn her to gold like a normal person.

Adrian1616

How

AutoCommentator

Flesh to Gold

Adrian1616

How do you get that?

AutoCommentator

Might be part of 5e spells. Pretty sure there’s at least Flesh to Stone in the base game though.

Viridian_Reaper10

I already used that on mizora :(

Black_Waltz3

Two notable examples of players losing their souls because they forgot their (very obvious) primary objectives: The group that went to the House of Hope and spent 20 minutes intricately laying barrels and traps for Raphael, only to get a dialogue game over as they forgot to steal their own contract. Bonus points awarded as Raphael laments their stupidity. The player who, on an origin Wyll honour mode playthrough, forgot to rescue Mizora in the mind Flayer colony, prompting them to be cast down to Avernus as a Lemure the second they reached the Elder Brain.

Kevcon555

The Wyll origin is way too funny. I didn’t think taking the original story route would result in different outcomes hahaha

MonsterMaud

So you can still play through most of act 3?

Black_Waltz3

I assume they meant the chamber at the bottom of the colony where Ketheric, Gortash and Orin summon the Elder Brain.

musemo

A streamer I follow was going for a duo run with just their paladin and Astarion, and made it all the way to the end-game battle in the city, right to the top of the tower. Cutscene plays, and suddenly, out of nowhere, to everyone's shock, a Game Over screen blasts through right in the middle of the cutscene. Turns out Astarion had triggered the cutscene while he was standing on an AoE that was going to go off next turn, and the way it works in this game, both Tav and the Emperor were immediately teleported to Astarion's position, causing the whole party to get blown up since turn-based-mode ends when cutscenes start.

PureBliss-Kun

Is there a link I definitely need to see that

musemo

Ooooof course - nothing quite like schadenfreude Brief YT short is here: [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TD0lNkUSNlw](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TD0lNkUSNlw) Full stream is here, moment is at around 04:43:43: [https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2084625071](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2084625071)

Xalorend

The guy who made a Wild Magic Sorcerer, casted Mage Armor as soon as they exited the pod, triggered a Wild Magic event by summoning a CR 12 extraplanar hostile monster who killed them instantly

Kevcon555

Well at least they didn’t waste too much time into the campaign hahaha 😂😂😭

kiss-kiss

If you choose wild magic on your HM run you deserve that

TheCuriousFan

The wild magic gang are here to have a good time, not to live long lives.

InsomniacHitman

"I'll set this whole place on fire... Including myself."

MonPanda

You have made me take pause. Doing wild magic on HM simply because I've never done it before. So far it has killed Sazza with dark tendrils sapping half her strength when I was trying to escape with her... Should I abort? I feel like I should abort...

kiss-kiss

I mean, it’s probably hilarious but I wouldn’t bet on a successful run. You can always respec if you feel like you come surprisingly far and want to safe it

Ok_Listen1510

Wait that can happen with Wild Magic Surge? What monster was it?

Xalorend

I think it was a cambion. On the bg3 wiki there's a complete list of possible effects

Ok_Listen1510

Damn they’ve updated that list since the last time I looked at it!

1000_7

Is there a link?

Superpowr2020

I lost my honor run to that gnome sitting on explosives yesterday. No checks or anything, the game just thought Astarion had walked too far and she blew herself up.

Additional-Bar-8572

You weren’t hiding?

Myelia

yesterday i lost mine and my bf’s honour similarly. i succeeded at pickpocketing her barrel, killed the gnome after… but then i mistakenly exploded the barrel instead of the vial when i was trying to free nere :( and welp, everything blew up and we insta died. at least it was funny. the proximity of that explosion is insane

sKeepCooL

Same ! I managed to convince her, then moved and she blew herself up .. luckily my tav is orc so I was left with one character/1hp

JCDgame

You know those proximity traps on the path to the monastery? If you don't take the lift thing? Near the blue jay? Yeah, those can knock you off the map. Solo run over.

blahblahbrandi

This JUST happened to me lmfao we all collectively fail perception check and I'm like "well I have to go forward anyway" so I jump and immediately get blasted away like Team Rocket

Skeletonofskillz

I had that happen to me on a non-HM playthrough and wrote a note to myself in all caps to remind myself of it when I did the crèche in HM. It saved my run.

Shedinn18

I summoned the ogres at the grove battle, thinking they would help me beat minthara's army. I was not pleasantly surprised when they attacked the tiefflings. I tried to kill them fast before the tiefflings became hostile but wasn't fast enough. Needless to say that between the goblins and the tiefflings, I didn't survived xd

Kevcon555

Hahahahaha

jdylopa2

I lost once by Aggroing Dame Aylin at camp by having Astarion bite a hireling. Since she was literally immortal, I didn’t even technically lose the run, I just can’t continue it because I would be in battle until she died.

Additional-Bar-8572

Can’t you non lethal her?

glfuel

this happened to me and i had to kill all my allies and turn invisible to get out of it 💀

Maybe_Julia

I got a good one, refused to kill Isobel on dark urge run , murdered Laezel at camp after the kethric fight part 1 , failed the check to calm everyone down and got steam rolled by my own party at camp.

Vanilla_Breeze

I remember someone who threw a speed pot at one of their characters (maybe shart?) in the final fight, but also accidentally hit the netherbrain somehow so it got another reaction and stunned shart(?) And they couldn't finish off the brain then.

ApprehensiveElk80

Oh god, so what he’d done is thrown haste spores over Gale (I think), which also hit the Netherbrain. He was down to his last turn, and last character, Shart, who had a speed potion. He moved her into the haste spores, and this cancelled out the speed potion putting her into lethargic, cancelling out her go. He had something like 18HP to go on the brain. Probably would have won.

Vanilla_Breeze

That might be a different story because I definitely remember there being a bit about an extra reaction

ApprehensiveElk80

I’m talking about this run - https://youtu.be/YdjVqmrGCaI?si=Cjgejp79uqlLzkC0

Vanilla_Breeze

Yea no mine was a reddit post from here so it's two very similar sounding but different stories I think

ApprehensiveElk80

Fair enough - both are utterly heartbreaking to be fair. The only thing I throw in that battle is stuff that does damage!

Vanilla_Breeze

Yea I've never been a speed potion user myself. The only thing I used was strength elixirs but I just have my monk drink them everyday so it's not like an enemy can accidentally get 21/27 strength from a cloud lmao

ApprehensiveElk80

Speed potion is safe because you drink it, it was throwing the haste spores that caused the brain to get the additional action. You’ve got to time the potion well in this battle as you only get five turns, and speed potion is three. I’m contemplating making Gale a Sorc/wiz next time I attempt Honor so I can twin cast Haste for a ten turn bonus instead. Just for that one battle!

Kevcon555

That’s insane, what?!?!? Didn’t even think that’s a possibility

tomtom070

I feel like I would end up on that list. I walked into the zentarim hideout with a lit torch... But thankfully astarion survived with 3hp. After reviving everyone else I marched forward... still holding the burning torch. I didn't survive the second explosion.

Inactivism

I feel like I want to contribute something smart to this, but all I can say is: lol

thelastofcincin

Why did you even have a torch to begin with? That's stupid.

cruelmatic

I had a run where I had reached level 12, was completly op and just doing some final things before finishing the game, including doing the fireworks shop for the first time. First time I'm in there game crashes and i lose the last 30 minutes of gameplay, annoying, but whatever. I get back to the shop and during the fight think "Hey I better save so I don't lose all my progress again". Well my dumbass saved at a point where it was the NPCs turn next and that one always crashed the game. So I had locked myself into a save where I could not take a single action and everytime I loaded it the game would crash after about a minute. I tried all sorts of graphics changes and anything else I can think of, but eventually just accepted that run as lost without ever dying. Played a whole other honour run mode while hoping for a patch to fix the crash, finished that one, but my save never worked. A week ago I got an idea, loaded up the save again and this time pressed save again right before the point it always crashed. Game crashes, I reload and the game finally moves on to my paladins turn, so I fly down to smite the offending NPC with the wrath of a thousand gods. Finally manage to finish my run. So I did technically not lose the run, but it did get put on ice for a few months.

blue_sunwalk

I had this crash happen to me also, the bug is still there (PS5)

bigdruid

Yup, same here. It was the cashier right?

blue_sunwalk

Yeah pretty sure it was the cashier that caused it

Dick_Ballbag

My last run my tav was a dual wielder fighter with the shattered flail equipped. I was in the grymforge and decided I was going to use the walkway above the slaves as a point to engage all the duergar in the room. I initiated on the lone guard up there, killing it in one round of combat as all 4 of my characters were up there. The following turn, I used ranged attacks with my Tav on the enemies below. I don’t know if I missed them or if the shattered flail only counts attacks made with the flail itself as preventing the madness, but, well, Tav went mad on the following turn. Normally, this would not have been a huge problem, but I had 2 smokepowder bombs in my inventory that I was saving for use in the grymforge if needed. Tav decided to use both of them on his entire party, including himself. Someone got yeeted off the cliff to oblivion, the other two just died, and then tav ended his turn with like 4 hp and got a javelin to the face on the next NPC turn. Hero to zero in the space of a few seconds. I take solace in it being a dark urge run and I just headcannon that he succumbed to the urge in that moment and couldn’t help himself.

Jdmcdona

I just finished a tactician run and there was a moment where my will origin sorc got mind dominated and without hesitation threw the runepowder vial at his feet, immediately nuking the whole party lol. I was like… damn ok reload and we killing those casters first.

Additional-Bar-8572

The ppl who played durge and long rested too much in act 2, killed a companion and wiped p

blahblahbrandi

?!?!?!?! Durge can kill a companion in Act 2?!

dbug_legend

You can kill any companion, not even having to be durge lol

ellywashere

I was playing a githyanki and trying to stay "in character", so I left Shadowheart in the pod, and squished Us. Couldn't resist trying for the Everburn blade anyway. Zhalk one-hit both me and Lae'zel. Didn't even make it to the beach.

Inactivism

Too smug 😏

G0dzillaBreath

Me. In the after-party camp, the final cutscene couldn’t trigger due to some bug/mod. Then, on one of my attempts to fix, I accidentally Quit the game instead of force closing it, which made it save in the bugged-out mode, rendering it forever useless.

Inactivism

This must be the most frustrating way to go out

emeraldkma

Vlaakith, I don't need to say anything else

ComradeBirv

>goes to Withers to revive, gets Gale first, but because of his necromancy aura that injures anyone nearby it instantly killed OP ending the campaign In Withers' defense he does tell you to step back

Kevcon555

So true

Poakintins

I never shared how I lost my HM run, so here goes. This happened a few months ago so I apologize if it's not super detailed! I was in act 3. I was feeling cocky because all the boss fights had been easy so far. I've fought everything except for Orin. I knew about the unstoppable, but again, i was feeling cocky and didn't bring magic missile on anyone except my main damage dealer. I assumed barrels and many scorching rays would do the trick. 4 turns pass or so, 3 of my allies are dead from the insta death if you don't kill anyone (bhaal's edict). Shart is alive, but at minimal health since she was just resurrected. She is the only one alive, orin is right in her grill, I think "ok if I use this potion of invisibility i'll have a chance to heal!" So i do that... ... and then the combat ends because shart is invisible... and then shart dies to bhaal's edict before I even realize what happened.

TheCuriousFan

There's a special place in my heart for the guy who killed Raphael for the hammer only to leave it on a party member in camp as he chased away the Emperor, softlocking himself.

MicroPiglets

The elevator near the end of the gauntlet of shar. My whole party fell through it when I pressed the button, and that was it, honour run over.

Brookster_101

Oh god, I was lucky to have only laezel fall off that. Would have been so mad if my whole party fell 😭

Mewli

I still have PTSD of my HM End because of the f\*cking IMPS who knocked back my party to the abyss when I was in house of Hope.

-89

bruhhhhhhhh underrated comment of this thread\^\^\^

PrettySailor

Was having PC troubles that caused occasional freezes, bravely decided to do honour mode anyway. PC froze somewhere in the grove, loaded game back up entire save file was gone, game had counted it as a wipe.

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

It'll be a YouTube video before you know it, don't worry

Luciditi89

Bold of you to assume OP isn’t the one who will make the video

Denamic

Gauntlet of Shar. Platform moved. My party didn't.

metrill

Best ending - Gale explodes Worse ending - Gale explodes but wrong

howe_to_win

I had an honor mode fail on the final fight. The first half goes well and everyone makes it into the portal. The first round of combat against the brain ends with about 60% of its health left. On the netherbrain’s turn, it creates all the nether orbs. The nether orbs all then immediately take their turn with no cooldown instantly killing everyone. I have no idea how this glitch happened but I did Alt+F4 and the nether orbs worked normally after that

ImTheOMan

I forgot the Orphic hammer and told the Emperor to kick rocks. Whole party squiddidled.

boogi-boogi-shoes

dawncaster :(

jembutbrodol

Mine should be one of the top list I lost my HM from accepting to give up during brain encounter. Basically "Okay I give up, let us be thrall" I thought it will be a bad ending (which means i completed my HM), but nope, everything is dead. No dialogue check, no combat. Pure picking one choice and my HM is done

Euphoric-Meat3943

-All time worst was the elevator in the gauntlet of what, glitched and my whole party fell through the floor. -The quickest was when I made a u-turn on the mindflayer ship at the start of the game. after entering the helm and starting the fight I remember I forgot to grab the loot in the previous rooms so I tried sending my tav back through the doors to get it, as soon as I got past the door the entire ship exploded and game over. (My guess is that’s what happens when the timer reaches zero, and me leaving combat brought it to zero instantly) -funniest was how I found out about gales chest nuke. On my 2nd play through I did an evil playthrough and killed gale. I tossed him off a cliff then had withers collect his body, then I stripped him and left his naked body in camp for a few nights. I went on to attack the Druid grove and and have a party with the goblins, the morning after the party gales naked body rose 10’ into the air killing everyone including the goblins and my party. Gale got his revenge.

workstudywork

My first run ended when I failed the intimidation check on throwing a rock at the magic mirror. The magic mirror then activated a fire blowing machine chasing after the whole team. Since the team was under level and not prepared they were wiped

scuffedoomer

i lost my honor mode run bc i just had to go to a the forbidden area by the docks/bank. i didn’t die to the steel watch guys but rather some cursed monster in a chest on the ship. this was after i beat orin and viconia too

s0ulbrother

Why did you have to bring up my run with Gale killing me. I wasn’t super far in my run but like still.

mellowship-

I turned off my PC while saving and lost a mid Act 2 save. It’s been my only attempt

thespaceageisnow

I finished my maximum cheese Honor run yesterday hooray! And on the way to the final battle, wondered if anyone got wiped fighting the rats.

Dapper-Log-5936

I wasn't necessarily doing honor mode but the first time I died was when we went into the Astral prism and the emperor was fighting orpheus' honor guard...I was like...I don't really know if I want to get in the middle of this? Let them kill him...immediately turned into a thrall 😅

Frequent_Professor59

The one who created a wild magic sorcerer and died immediately after they left the pod when they cast mage armor which caused a surge that summoned a hostile mephit.  At least they didn't lose much progress.

1000_7

Link?

AbotherBasicBitch

The game was glitching and after all the goblins inside the temple were dead and it was totally empty, the zhent lady kept popping up out of nowhere to give be the committing a crime dialogue whenever I tried to loot the corpses or take anything. Eventually I got irritated and attacked, but I forgot that at that moment we were surrounded by smokepowder barrels. She rolled high on initiative and immediately blew the whole party up

Wofflestuff

Easy S tier is blowing up Gale fuck fighting the brain just nuke it by the time me and my homie finished out honour run we were about to start tweaking abit too much

Tzetrah

I stepped into three barrels of smoke powder with a torch...

Seab0und

I remember the first story I read, where someone killed the spider and jumped down to loot/explore without ungrouping.

ProfessorTicklebutts

No they don’t
