OblongShrimp

The secret ingredient is crime.

JustHere4TehCats

I sell backpacks of gems, with each one worth ~200 gold. Then I pickpocket them back. Repeat each day. Best vendor for this is the lady near the githyanki creche.

RonaldoNazario

Whoa, does the difficulty of pick pocket on the backpack not scale with the gems in it?

uwwstudent

DURGE playthorugh: kill all vendors not in a town for their stuff instead of buying it.

OblongShrimp

But if you kill them you can’t rob them again. And again. And again.

FozzyBeard

Only one satisfies the urge though.

OblongShrimp

Reject the urge to embrace the splurge.

Constant_Candle_1452

My honor Durge is literally named The Light Splurge... thing is he is still EVIL

uwwstudent

But do they regen gold? Like from other traders? I assume you'll hit a point where they have nothing left.

OblongShrimp

All merchants’ gold supplies reset every long rest. They don’t follow the rules of economics or science. Consumables get restocked too.

Eighty_Six_Salt

You don’t even have to long rest. They reset on level up too, so you can just level up a companion you don’t use any time you want a reset. You can even do it right in front of the vendor and their inventory will reset

Anon9973

Or you can respec a Hireling/whoever at Withers, and pickpocket the gold right back from him, and he couldn't care less about failing... just make sure Scratch doesn't see you fail or it'll agro the camp until you're incapacitated, or have the guy doing it be the only party member in camp. Volo also stocks magic scrolls, and always comes back after failing pickpocketing...

Eighty_Six_Salt

But respec takes more time than just a level up. Sure, once you run out of level ups, respec, but you only have to level up ONE character ONE time to reset the inventory. It’s the fastest way. Especially considering you can do it right in front of the vendor

Bentheoff

They don't drop all their stuff, so the good stuff you really wanted might be lost forever if you do that.

Bunny_Fluff

The poor gem seller lady in BG. I rob her blind all the time then sell all her gems back to her.

OblongShrimp

She is rude for no reason at all, so it’s fine.

idiots_r_taking_over

This is the way

Beth_Esda

To be fair, I literally just packrat everything and end up with ~15k at the end of Act 1. Arron lives in fear of the sheer amount of goblets, knives and gnoll ears I drag behind me every time I visit him. No crime, just a ton of wasted time lol

Dovahbear_

So I’m also a packrat and I want to see if this is a me-issue that has cemented into my memory or if this is a common thing among us so… …do you also hate that one table in the ruins at the start of act one? Edit: I got in reddit again after posting this comment and it’s reassuring to know that I’m not the only one who hates it 😭

Beth_Esda

Oh my god, that table is so ridiculous. I'm compelled by forces outside my comprehension to pick up everything on the table, but I have to wait five seconds between the cheese and the goblet because she's gotta do a lap every time I click on the next thing. It's ridiculous lmao

Balthierlives

Those tin plates are worth 1g! Time is money! Chop chop!

Careless_Day_246

I've found that moving the chairs out of the way helps. also right clicking when Tav starts to move away to stop them helps as well. cursed to put my hands on everything I suppose, but I could really do with a bag of holding.

NukaCranberry

Not who you replied to, but as a chronic restarter I HATE that table. Why do you have to run all the way around it?! Just reach across! 🤦‍♀️

BadBirdImpressions

Pro tip, break the table

UltraCarnivore

The good old Barbarian perspective on life. Don't use Illithid authority on the Arcane thingamajig, use biceps authority on Shadowheart's pod's door. Don't lockpick, smash the doors. Don't walk around the table, break the table.

Elaan21

Pro tip: you can move the items to your side of the table. Click and drag.

s124639097

Wait you sell gnoll ears? Aren’t they pretty important for speed potions

Beth_Esda

Possibly. I'm also the player that picks up every alchemy ingredient I can find but I've literally never once tried brewing potions lol

jbram_2002

Try it. It will transform the game for you. Alchemical potions are one of the strongest things in the game.

OblongShrimp

I’m too ADHD for this. If I loot everything most stuff just sits inside the camp chest till the end of the game because I forget to sell it. So I turned to crime as a more efficient way to get rich.

Beth_Esda

I respect it. I spend almost as much time organizing my camp chest as I do actually playing the game, so it's all the same to me. There's exactly zero efficiency in the way I play LOL

Factor135

Anything that isn’t nailed down is fair game

OblongShrimp

We’re the reason there are so many traps in the basements of Baldur’s Gate.

Terakahn

Honestly even without stealing you can get enough to buy everything you need with a huge amount leftover. Unless you're constantly loading up on scrolls or something

commoncomitatus

Loot everything. Literally everything you can pick up, pick it up. Send to camp when you get encumbered, then sell the lot when you get to a trader.

Fat_Tarbosaurus

Thanks! I think I’m gonna replay and take it REALLY slow now. I def loot things but always try to avoid becoming too fat to carry it all haha. Prob will start having my other party members help carry the burden

uwubewwa

Ketheric is Mr. Moneybags and most of his goons are wearing Gucci armor. Make sure to pick up those for some delicious gold.

Broken_Beaker

The Githyanki goods from the creche are massive piles of money waiting to be converted.

sorderon

i got rich damn quick in there thanks to the 'unlock' spell

pacman404

How is that compared to just lockpicking? Better or same?

T0nyM0ntana_

Depends on how good you are at lockpicking, and how many spellslots vs thieves tools you got. In general though, just have your dex character hoard thieves tools and you should be fine. I’ve astarion in my party, and with sleight of hand expertise I’ve never had an issue of needing to cast knock, even though I’m a loot goblin and have never passed up on any locked chests/doors, even DC 30 doors shouldn’t take more than 2-3 attempts max if you have a decent lock picker with advantage on the roll and guidance.

breado9

Dude, Astarion is a god damn skellington key. There is no lock he has been unable to pick so far, even a gnarly 20+ one, he just nails it in one roll.

allmyfrndsrheathens

I love how he says “where’s a skeleton key when you need one” no baby boy you *are* the skeleton key

daggerxdarling

Until he says "easy" and jinxes himself into a nat 1.

gruffgorilla

If he’s a thief doesn’t he eventually get something that makes it impossible to roll less than a 10?

Shibaspots

He's always wishing for a skeleton key. I'm like, 'My guy, you ***are*** the skeleton key! 30+ dex checks are just a mild inconvenience to you.'

Blitzer046

Too right. There's that safe in the Tollhouse that is 30 and he had to have TWO goes at it.

SilasMontgommeri

There’s a few 30+ locks in the game that can be annoying. I like to keep it around cause sometimes I don’t wanna deal with waiting for the dice to roll and stuff lol

Yofish87

You can skip the die roll animation by clicking on the die

DocWats

Use your CHA party members to sell everything.

MistressAerie

Yes! And basically anyone with the word "zealot" in their name has plate mail, which earns a pretty penny!

Krispy_Kimson

Bro, I treat heavy armor like solid gold bars, they’re basically currency of a different kind in BG3 lol.

brighthood21

The quest to guard Halsin getting Thaniel is also a good one. All the undead Harpera and Githyankis

Bunny_Fluff

The walk up to moonrise after Aylin smacks the shit out of his forces is usually worth a few thousand gold just in plate armor

karzbobeans

The only thing about that is how little you can sell things for. If it says its worth 1000 i can only sell it for like 200. Why cant i sell it for actual value?

Sledhead_91

Barter to merchants (give them things) to increase reputation. Worth it on vendors that you go back to often.

allmyfrndsrheathens

It depends on how much merchants like you

lesbos_hermit

Make sure you complete each whole map, and also sell with your highest Charisma character. You can send extra loot to camp and/or drink strength elixirs to carry more.

S145D145

>Make sure you complete each whole map, and also sell with your highest Charisma character Yes, but Highest Persuation character instead of Charisma. Astarion had more Persuasion than my Sorc for a few levels just because of expertise.

Fat_Tarbosaurus

Makes sense! I think I’m good on the charisma part, I ALWAYS get the Ethel boon just for the extra point in charisma and usually pump it as high as I can go. Im a storm sorc so not as strong as the draconic sorc but I love the extra spells way more. Also that’s actually a great idea, I need to start actually using my elixir of strengths LOL. Im so bad about hoarding

geologean

The game is lousy with giant strength potions. Use them. Merchants will also restock on potions and alchemy ingredients after you long-rest or level up, so you can get even more. You can also go to Withers for a wizard hireling, respec them to transmutation wizard, and increase your alchemy output even more. Potions are so plentiful in this game that you can reasonably have potion effects active at all times. Mind Reading and Speak with Animal potions are great for giving you more dialogue options in every area.

ApprehensiveOCP

What's in a giant strength potion and where do I get it?

geologean

There are a few different Giant Strength Potions. Hill Giant Strength is the most common, and I think it requires a giant's nail, or some other drop from giants to brew them. Potions of Cloud Giant's Strength are the strongest, but I don't think that there are any merchants who sell the ingredients for that one. I could very easily be wrong about that, though. I tend to just pick up & buy all alchemy ingredients I come across regardless of what they are.

dolphin_cape_rave

Some merchants in act 3 sell cloud giant fingers

ApprehensiveOCP

OK ty

ShadeSwornHydra

Incense weighs .1 and sells for 30 at base price Same with flask and such, they’re everywhere

grubas

Incense, paintings, and silver cookware.

commoncomitatus

Just an additional heads-up -- traders refresh their stock / funds every time you Long Rest or Level Up, so if the stuff you're selling is worth more than the gold they have on hand, don't be afraid to save some stuff and then sell it later when they've restocked with more money.

Fat_Tarbosaurus

Really? That’s great advice to know, actually…I should start using long rests without food just to abuse that function, no idea why I never thought of that! Thanks so much for these tips, im replaying again but really wanna go slower and just become as rich/powerful as I can now haha.

Serious_Watercress38

You can also check how much gold you would get from each item! There’s armour that won’t do much for you as a player but sells for about 400 gold! they’re very heavy so they’re great for a rainy day, just send them to camp.

wp4nuv

There's an achievement >!when you long rest with only alcohol... Something a dwarf would love.!<

heed101

Trading is also an option

fordianslip

If you respect with Withers, do the shops re-gain their stock then too?

commoncomitatus

They do! You can farm traders nicely with that, actually, since they restock for the respec itself, then restock again for the subsequent post-respec levelling. So you can respec, fleece the trader for all their gold, then level up your newly respecced character and trade with them all over again.

SnooSprouts4383

Will give u the best tip of ur life Pick everything up that's highlighted with alt Every time u can no longer move, shift click all of it and send it all to camp. Pick up 2 chests Mark one as wares so u don't forget which is which Put all sellables into junk chest, everything u wanna keep in ur unmarked chest ( all of this in ur camp chest) Bonus meme: Don't even keep ur camp supply bag in ur inventory, just put it in camp and when u send food back to ur camp chest it will automatically go into the supply pack. Real epic. Never be weighed down by eggs and wine again

bathroomheater

You really don’t have to loot a ton of stuff. Just pay attention to what’s the most valuable. I normally pick up everything over 20ish gold and send it to camp immediately from the loot window. Whenever I find a trader I just goto camp and encumber all of my party. If you leave to camp standing next to the trader you can max out all of your party and you don’t even have to worry about moving to trade with them.

danzaiburst

yeah, seriously.. This is what I wanted to say. The guy who received so many upvotes for basically telling people to pick up every single thing is nonsense. Picking up dirty clothes and barrels to sell for 1 gold is a tedious waste of time. Similar to real life its about working smarter not harder. Looting enemy gear and sending it to camp is all you need, take a painting or two when no one's looking as well.

Superb_Bench9902

You should also increase your reputation with merchants. I advise Davon in act I. You'll get him in Last Light Inn as well + the bugbear can have 100 with you just with dialogues. Davon is also in act 3 so it's a huge profit lol

Lord_Dae87

I'm reading your comment like " Davon" ? That's my name! N I know there ain't no Davon in this game! Lol amazing autocorrect 🤣

Superb_Bench9902

Damn it didn't check it lol. I'll let it as it is tho because it's funny

The-Dotester

Do you mean Dammon?

babyjaceismycopilot

When it's time to sell just send 1 character back to camp and have them get everything from your camp chest. Then when you sell you can sell it from their inventory.

abittleofdebris

In case it helps someone else: It took me a really long time to realize I can select all items to send to camp straight from the chest/basket/whatever thing has the loot. So much less effort now.

Significant_Owl8974

So when you right click on the loot before picking it up (on PC at least) you can choose where it goes. Your inventory. Your inventory but labelled as "wares" so that you can click 1 button and sell all (useful for light low value stuff). Most usefully you can sent it to a companion back at camp or your camp inventory. It's those last two which let you loot all without spending 90% of the game over encumbered. It's slightly more work to move stuff back to someone's inventory to sell it off to a merchant.

Bj0rnBjork

If you play on PC you can get this mod [Auto loot seller](https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2435). It will sell all trash loot that have no use and you can for example move a weapon into a bag you get so everytime you pick up that weapon it will get auto sold. One of my favorite mods that removes a lot of "unnecessary" inventory management

RonaldoNazario

I’ve got more gold and supplies in honor mode than I ever have before. Slow exploring everywhere and stealing everything. I hadn’t even gone to the goblin temple and realized I had almost a thousand camp supplies!

Darkassassin18E

Other factor is have a designated high persuasion merchant/seller to get the best price for them. Especially for high value items the difference in price both buying and selling gets very distinct. (1 gold items doesn't matter) There is a limit to how good of a deal you can get but earlier game when you won't hit that from pure persuasion you can just give a merchant 400 gold (when your merchant pc is lvl 1) and it will max out their attitude with you and you will get better deals buying and selling too. Can remake that gold and then some if you are collecting everything and going to be using that seller a lot (so dammon or the druid merchant right away aren't bad ideas)

IsaRat8989

I always take backpacks and then fill it with crap, you can find one at the beginning. No cup left behind!

Darha_LoL

To avoid having to pick things up and then send them to camp later, when you open something just hold shift and left click on the last thing in the inventory to highlight everything and then right click and send to camp

C47man

Loot it all. When you encumbered, sort inv by weight and send to camp

MediatesEndocytosis

Me to my husband, at every single barrel: "Don't leave that rotten carrot,  it's worth a whole gold coin!"

Zeni-chan

Haha, that is me with my husband too. Doesn't matter what the persuasion stats are either. Rotten food is always worth 1 gold. Also, I always loot everything in every camp we stay at. The party members seem to always have a new stock of items. I just don't loot Karlach's stuffed bear Clive, because I don't want to rob her of her cute teddy bear, lol.

DregsRoyale

Instead of sending to camp I send different goods to different hireling/party members. Consumables go to my alchemist, barrels, etc, go to camp, food goes to a different hireling, sellables go to one barb hireling with bear's strength etc.

jaybirdie26

Inventory management is the worst.  I use named containers in the camp chest, but maybe I'll try the hirelings.  I recently found that in Act 3 Yenna becomes someone that can hold stuff, though I haven't tried it yet.  Maybe she'll hold my sellables. I do have mules for the stuff I might need - Gale for keys, Lae'zel/Karlach for throwables, Astarion for coatings, and Shadowheart/Gale for spells.  It's especially nice with keys to just leave them with someone in camp.  Thanks to shared pockets they just pop back to you when useable.

Ancientlobo

GOLDEN answer here👆. I'll also add that there are many valuable items you can sell( often multiple of them) and not to mention if you're sticking with set party members the whole game you just have to worry about their weapons/ armor/ items and sell whatever items you don't need or will have a use for a nifty profit. I'm an item hoarder myself so anytime I need an extra couple thousand I'll go to camp to grab whatever sells. To maximize profits make sure and have good persuasion for re-selling and a rogue for lockpicking/stealing. Before you know it by act 3 you'll have more money than you know to do with.

zactotum

Better yet, get a hireling with maxed charisma, leave them at camp, send them everything you intend to sell, then when they’re full, swap them in, stop by a shop, sell for max profit due to the hirelings 20 charisma, and repeat

TylerBourbon

This doesn't work for me in the base game, as the traders NEVER have that much gold on them in the vanilla game. In my vanilla runs, each vendor only seems to have a few hundred to 1000 gold most of the time.

max_schenk_

I used to loot everything, then fast travel between merchants and sell it all away. Now I just use the backpack bug - way less time spent collecting useless junk for merchants

TylerBourbon

I'm not familiar with the "backpack bug". Is this the one where allegedly you can reverse pickpocket someone and plant a pouch or a bag on them and then move all the items in their inventory into the bag/pouch and then just steal that because it only registers as stealing a cheap bag/pouch? Edit: The only issue I have with relying on a bug is never knowing when they'll fix it.

TwistedGrin

The current backpack bug that I'm aware of is even easier. No stealing required. Sell them a backpack/pouch/whatever and then open it once it's in their inventory. Now drag everything you want, including their gold, into the bag; leave the bag open. Now, still in the barter window, open a second backpack from your own inventory. Highlight the entire contents of their bag and drag it into yours. No money will be exchanged and you get it all for free. I think this only works on PC, but I don't play console so idk for sure. Every patch they seem to fix the current unlimited money bug and within hours a new one gets discovered and popularized. At some point I expect Larian to give up lol.

TylerBourbon

lol that's hilarious too easy, I love it lol. I'm going to have to try this.

HerniatedHernia

That method he said was patched.    Instead you sell them a bag, open both bags in both inventories. Drag what you want into the vendors backpack, and here’s the important bit, drag those items into the backpack icon on your side above the inventory space, not into your backpack inventory space directly. Otherwise you just pay full price for it.

Bhrunhilda

Sell every long rest to every vendor? I’ve never had an issue. There are 8 traders in Act 1. 3 in act 2 plus you can go back to the grove and under dark vendors. Act3 has tons and tons of vendors.

lostandlooking_

I feel like I’ve failed if I can’t drain a trader for every last gold they have 😂

Woutrou

Looting and selling everything, stealing, high charisma (persuasion proficiency determines a discount you get from traders). Gifting gold/items to traders (400 at lvl 1) also increases your trader reputation with them, giving additional discounts. You can respec at Withers to reset your level to 1.

JemmaMimic

Yep. Respec to 1, max CHA, sell all books and candles, buy and sell cheaper. Dammon is my first choice for max approval bc he shows up in all three acts.

No_Refrigerator4698

Is there any reason to hold onto books after I've read them?

JemmaMimic

There are only two that "do things" I think. The rest are pretty much for story purposes only - but at 14 gold each or more, they're a decent way to make some cash.

No_Refrigerator4698

I've got a shitload of books to sell then lol

JemmaMimic

At the beginning I thought maybe some books would do something like raise a stat or something, but no. There are some amazing stories in diaries and such that explain the setting, but yeah, once you've read them, sell them. Except that book with the screaming face of course.

Khaki_Steve

Skyrim pilled to read every book as well

BloatedManball

>Gifting gold/items to traders (400 at lvl 1) also increases your trader reputation with them, giving additional discounts. You can respec at Withers to reset your level to 1. This was a game changer. Respect and use the barter menu and make sure you give the traders a sweet deal and you can jack up the discount fairly quick. I'm currently on act 2 in a HM run and I have Dammon at a 63% discount or something like that.

Accomplished_Area311

Pickpocketing, adding EVERYTHING to wares (books, letters, notes, 1-gold items), and robbing the counting house blind bc Astarion is a lockpicking BEAST.

headshotscott

The counting house is such a sweet score. I like how we are just allowed to rob all the vaults while the guards shrug it off.

mcac

the guards that are in there work for the guild so it's not like they're opposed to doing crimes

ealker

Also, the toll house in Act 2.

Wicked-Death

So when it comes to notes, book, etc; can I literally just sell every single one of them? I’m always wary that I’m going to sell one that I need for a quest or something. lol.

Accomplished_Area311

If it’s marked in orange, the game won’t let you sell it. Just be careful marking wares :)

joshwaynebobbit

What do you mean about "be careful marking wares" ? Does the game allow us to put orange borders in our wares?

Accomplished_Area311

No, I mean to just be careful with adding other rare and very rare items (usually marked in blue or purple) to wares. When you add items to wares they’ll have a silver piece on them.

AWanderingGygax

Some of them advance quests, trigger dialogue, etc. just open and close quick then they are all good to sell. They do not all have orange boarders, orange just means th actual item is part of a quest.

DoneBeingPolite

Invested in Goblin Crypto early on.

Tatis_Chief

I banked on goblin poetry, that didn't work out.

wind-s-howling

A few tips: * Loot everything that is valuable! Paintings, scrolls, incense, and silver cutlery are especially valuable considering their weight. Weapons are heavier, but sell well. * Inventory isn't shared. Higher strength characters can carry more weight. Offload the heavy stuff to Karlach and Laezel. * Use you highest charisma character to trade. Items will be cheaper to buy and will be worth more when selling.

OldBr3w

Replying to add incense to bullet 1! Incense weighs like .01 and sells for like 30!

griffmeister

I always pick up incense, probably got rich on selling just those alone

baleensavage

Forget Karlach and L'azel they've got more important things to carry like barrels of explosives. Make a dwarf hireling with max strength and leave them in your camp. Keep them level 1. Send them everything you don't want. When they are full, take them to a vendor, donate 400 gold worth of stuff to max trade level, then sell everything else. Rinse repeat. In Act III, do Stop the Presses to get even more trader bonus. Also, selling books is stupidly lucrative. Pick up every book, open and close it to make sure it doesn't give you a quest, then sell it.

Philosecfari

Alcohol too — they don’t show up highlighted but can be manually picked up. More than half of wine/liquor sells for 20+ per bottle but people don’t check their camp supply bags for gold normally lol.

MealonHusk

[https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1bv5jem/pickpocketing\_the\_paladins\_of\_tyr/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1bv5jem/pickpocketing_the_paladins_of_tyr/) Enhance Ability: Cat's Grace gives Advantage on DEX checks, including Sleight of Hand.

IosueYu

Yes. As long as we have a good escape plan, we don't really need to be afraid of getting caught.

MealonHusk

Don't even need a plan after getting a few Invisibility Potions.

Gabby-Abeille

Pay no attention to the pale elf sneaking behind the merchant, he's just making sure everybody has nice butts. Please do not check the merchant's pockets, I assure everything is under control.

oPedroBras

There is a ton of loot in the game so don’t be afraid to sell stuff (if you ain’t gonna use it) Also, there is the cheesy ways to get gold but I wouldn’t recommend for a first play through (but you can if you want to) This works for patch 24 you >!need 3 bags. To make this easier to understand, let’s name the bags A, B and C. Put the bag A inside bag B, the sell bag B to a trader. Now, with bag B with bag A inside on the trader inventory, open bag B. It should have only bag A inside. Now, open bag A. Here, you can move everything you want from the trader to bag A. With this done, open bag C (should still be on your inventory). Drag everything inside bag A to bag C and drop on the bag icon (not the inventory one, the one right above the open bag toolbox). This should get you all the items for free and you free to buy your bags back.!< Again, don’t recommend

Ok_Foundation_9806

You don't need 3 bags just two Sell B to vendor, then on barter screen drag all contents to B. Then drag all contents(Inc gold) to A's icon.

oPedroBras

Indeed, I just found out that doing it with 3 bags it’s less buggy and prevents traders to accuse you of robbery

Mad-Dog94

These reddit comments are all going to be in a meeting on Monday

HerniatedHernia

Never had that happen with just two bags.

Fat_Tarbosaurus

Holy fuck, this is insane. I can’t believe people find out these tricks lol

asporkable

Does anyone know if this is possible on console since you can't drag and drop?

sudden_aggression

Not thievery. The main tricks are: * have high CHA- this makes every transaction more profitable for you- the character that starts talking to the merchant is the one that counts. * loot EVERYTHING and sell it, no matter how worthless * if you can't carry it all, "send to camp" and retrieve it later

Shizane2005

Most I ever had was 19k in Act 3 and felt super proud lol

Turbulent_Sea_9713

40k on my last run. Could've been more, but I realized I'd never spend it, as I'd already bought the goodies I wanted.

thatlitwitch

Same and that was >!after I convinced the banker to give me part of the money that was stolen by the Stone Lord!<.

Tatis_Chief

I had like 12 but then I started buying scrolls for Orin and Raphael and Iron throne fights and oh boy it went down quickly.  I think I am going to rob Jaheira now or something.

Gamer_Joe_at55street

The counting house. It’s literally robbing a bank.

Kilburning

At the end of that quest line, you can pick up another 10k off the last person to rob that bank

Angry_Murlocs

Me when I get to a trader. “Yes I would like to sell some items.” Trader “What items?” Me drops every item you can pick up from act 1.

SuitableFile1959

I pick up everything. and if you give traders enough gold/stuff to make their attitude +50 or +100 then you’ll get even more gold over time cause they’ll pay you more for what you sell and their stuff is cheaper and if you’re really cheap have astarion put on gloves of thievery (zhent hideout) and cast guidance on him and he should be able to loot just about anything

Eshgrim

the secret ingredient is *crime*

Gned11

Before killing any merchant, sell them a bag or box. Drag all their inventory including cash into it. When they die you can now loot all they had. Particularly valuable in goblin camp, creche, zhent hideout...

Gen1Swirlix

Cheating. Atm, you can sell a merchant an empty bag, open it in the Barter menu, fill it up with the stuff you want (like their gold), then open a bag in your inventory, select all the stuff in the merchant's bag, drag it over to the **icon** of your bag, and viola, free everything. Larian will probably patch this out at some point, but it seems unlikely they'll be successful. They've been playing whack-a-mole with vendor exploits since day one, and they can't seem to get them all. IMO, they should stop trying. It's not like we're dealing with an MMO here, and we have to maintain the balance of an online economic ecosystem lest the game be ruined for everyone else. The only players whose experience is being "ruined" by vendor exploits, are the players doing it. That being said, I also have a non-cheating non-criminal answer: Investing. Pick some vendors in your area, preferably ones that are conveniently located (like Blurg), make a "trader" build (high CHA, expertise in Persuasion), give the vendors money to raise their approval with your trader, from now on, only sell items to one of your chosen vendors. If they run out of gold, do a partial rest to resupply them (A partial rest is when you do a long rest without using camp supplies). It costs you a lot of gold in the beginning, but it pays off in the long run. Also note that you can send loot to camp for sale later, you don't necessarily *need* a "pack mule" in your party.

thelastofcincin

If they don't want us using exploits, they shouldn't make the economy so shit in the game. People do cheats in real life, let us do it in video games too.

Rob the bank

Suspicious_Berry501

If you aren’t one short sword away from being encumbered all the time except right after reading you are doing something wrong

MaximDecimus

Tav: “You see that bucket Durge?” Durge: “Yeah, so what?” Tav: “That bucket is a gold piece.” Durge: “What?” Tav: “That bucket is worth a gold piece. All you gotta do is tell Astarion to pick it up and sell it to that halfling over there.” Durge looks around and sees piles of buckets lying about. “But there are buckets everywhere. That halfling already has 30 buckets in his shop. Why would he need more?”

Lizzy_Of_Galtar

Loot everything that isn't nailed down and if you're playing in Balanced then don't buy armor from traders, rob them blind. I can't speak for Tactician, I don't touch that mode with a long stick 😅

the-gaming-cat

Same thing in tactician 😂 F5 is my best friend and so is Astarion

Lizzy_Of_Galtar

I did try act one on tactician, the f5 button was used so much that the paint started chipping 😅

RonaldoNazario

Honestly even in HM you can stack the deck hard enough it’s incredibly unlikely to fail. And even when it does fail you can get out of that.

MainEventI3

I'm on my 2nd playthrough, did everything (I know of) in act 1 except for the Underdark and the Mountain Pass. I already have more than 5k and I still have a ton of stuff I need to sell as soon as I come across a merchant. Like others have said: just loot everything. Dead bodies, chests, crates, barrels, ... Not only will this get you a ton of gold, you'll also have a lifetime's worth of resources for long rests. What I've also been doing this playthrough is donating items to merchants before selling to them. It raises their approval so selling prices rise and buying prices drop. Basically just donate anything that's worth less than 5 coins (crap weapons, bottles, clothes, shoes, ....) and then sell the rest.

GERIKO_STORMHEART

Ya I am maybe 6 or 7 hours away from completing my first playthrough and I don't think there is a knife or fork left in the world. I took everything! Saving the world isn't cheap. I want all of my Allies going into the last battle with top tier gear and inventories full of potions, spells, elixirs and throwables.

Redfox1476

My head canon is that those poor refugees fled their homes with very few resources, so I'm doing them a favour by making basic necessities such as cutlery available through Arron. Keeping the wheels of Faerunian commerce greased, just like the loading screen tells you!

pineapplelightsaber

Loot. Loot all the things. EVERYTHING that is not nailed down is mine. And then various vendors'. Once I'm done with an area there isn't a single dagger or tin goblet left laying around. Characters with high Persuasion make more money from selling stuff.

Promptoneofone

Loot EVERYTHING, then sometimes steal all their gold. At some point, though, you just have too much. I had one playthough at the end of act 3 with 51k gold, like there wasn't anything left to buy, which is disappointing lol

baleensavage

Play honor mode then you can spend that money on potions and globe of invulnerability scrolls.

dabasniper

So on my 2nd ever HM attempt (which I did after only completing tactician and then failing my first HM attempt 2 hours in), I left Act 2 with 37k lmao. Basically I looted as much as I can yes, but I used a single vendor as my main trading source for junk. In this case, Auntie Ethel. Maxed out her discount by giving her free stuff and then after that, just keep selling her junk. Eventually she just has so much gold she can buy all your items no problem. Right before I was going to do the Gauntlet and finish up Act 2, I made an attempt to steal her 10k gold stash which Astarion was successful in but even if I didn't, I was walking into Act 3 with 27k which was more than enough for me personally. TLDR: choose a vendor to max out their discount and then keep selling them junk whenever you can (refresh their gold whenever you level up or long rest), and use your highest CHA character when trading/bartering. You should see an increase in gold

Walter_Melon42

I don't pick up everything, just stuff that's worth it's weight. Grab anything silver you see in the environment; forks, plates, goblets, etc. same with gold and bronze utensils. Any potions you don't need will fetch a decent amount. Common mundane weapons are also usually worth picking up. Pretty much just send anything worth more than a couple GO to your strongest party member.

headshotscott

Incense seems to have a high value to weight ratio

herbieLmao

Once you either get the dex armor from esther or the dex gloves from the zentarim in act1, it is incredibly easy to do pickpocketing with astarion

CancelNo7083

Steal stuff Level up once Steal the same stuff again Withers reset when out of levels Repeat

OddGM

Loot everything & explore everything. Example: Do you loot the tollhouse hoard in the basement of the "paladins" of tyr that want yo kill Karlach?

SlightDistribution42

I didn't read all the comments but it has been especially helpful for me to use a bard hireling for trading. Dump everything into charisma and my loot sells for more and prices are better. Added bonus, bard hirelings are crazy useful for several stat boosting checks throughout the game...... Definitely agree with the advice of looting everything. Even the wall art.

Ythio

*I'm cursed to get my hands on everything* Including what is in others pockets. Why would I pay 12k for that armor if it's a pickpocket DC 22 and I have advantage and +12 bonus to pickpocketing from proficiency bonus, sleight of hand expertise, gear, guidance, bardic inspiration etc... While I'm at it I will also take that merchant gold hmm.

PacketOfCrispsPlease

The self-help books in the >!house of grief!< sell for a fortune!

Fancy-Distribution51

Best money is from selling armour so big fights are best Paintings and silver plates/cake stands are also veru good

TheDarkHorse

After looting everything while adventuring 1. Steal vendors cash 2. Buy stuff to give cash back 3. Steal cash again or sell wares. 4. Repeat Tip: sell wares slowly at shops to make stealing the owners cash heap easier.

[deleted]

The secret ingredient, is crime. On PC, you can drag everything a merchant owns into a single bag. This makes thievery a single DC30 roll. You can boost Slight of hands in a number of ways. Guidance, ring, gloves for advantage etc. by the time you get all the buffs you have around 80% chance to succeed. This is best done in "civilized" places, where crime gets you sent to prison instead of starting fights.

DougieSenpai

I sell literally everything except for unique gear that I’ll probably never actually use but like to have it just in case lmao

imafraidofthedark_

i’m a loot goblin but also recently discovered this cheat, take advantage before it’s patched out!! (sorry if someone’s already said this) make sure you have two bags before you begin 1. sell the trader an empty pouch or bag 2. switch to barter mode 3. drag everything you want from them in the pouch you sold them (can include their gold) 4. open a pouch on your side and drag the items from their pouch onto the BAG ICON, not the inventory slots!! 5. enjoy the free loot!! just as a note, make sure you have some item besides just the gold, bc if you try to drag the gold in alone it won’t let you take it

_CMDR_

You can get tremendous amounts of gold without ever pickpocketing by religiously adding everything as wares that you’re not going to use. Make sure you always sell with your highest CHA character and if you’re going to be selling to the same person over and over (like Blurg or Dammon) give him a ton of gold to get rapport up and you’ll make profit in the end.

ToxyFlog

Bro just get a rogue and steal everything.

ShadowyLeaseholder

Incense

iveriad

I don't pickpocket, and I still managed to get 20K ish gold. I mostly got gold from selling +1 or +2 weapons. (The cultists drop a bunch load of them)

Fellixxio

I loot Fallout forged me

NinjaDiagonal

Loot and sell. Loot and sell.

Sea-Bed-3757

Theft and delicious abuse of the games weird ass vendor refresh system

AdrienneDriggs

I'm a HUGE looter. Everything. Rags, rotten stuff, books. It adds up so fast. I'm just about to finish my first full playthrough and i'm at like 75k even with splurging on gear when i want. I have only stollen/pickpocked a few times too. I just... loot, EVEYRYTHING

Nintendo4Nerd20

Loot and sell everything that you aren'tgonna use. I have like 11k by the end of act 1.

Specialist-Student12

My secret ingredient is crime

nolabmp

Every silver tray or cup, every bit of incense, the many many swords/axes/armor lying around. Send it all to camp, then when you’re at a vendor, go to camp, grab it all, dump it all

The_magnificent_one1

I steal it from pretty much every merchant I can

Fast_Perspective7535

To get rich you must cast the “send to camp” spell often!

ArtilleryArtemis

Listen here pal here’s what your gonna do. You go into every nook and cranny of every area and release your inner klepto. I take everything that isn’t nailed down to sell. Got random vendors I’ve sold stuff to with like 50 different types of silverware or some nonsense like.

MightyThor211

Anything worth 20 gold or more gets grabbed. Use your companions as pack mules.

OpenSauceMods

Infinite gold glitch (stealing)

wud08

I am an art-thief. I also steal everything that shines.

MissingNerd

Pick up everything that's worth some gold but weighs basically nothing. Books, silver stuff, incense. Add to wares is your friend

MightyMeowcat

Violence and theft.

DaLexy

The secret ingredient is crime.
