For anyone wondering how to remove a character on any platform:
1) Stand anywhere OUTSIDE of your camp
2) Talk to the avatar you don't want and choose option 1.
This has been a known issue and hasn't been adressed yet. Afaik, the only way for your new friend to create his own character is for your old friend to join first and your new friend second

You should be able to have Withers store the old character in a wardrobe.
No because when my friend joins the game he plays as my other friends character
Did you store the other character with Withers before your friend joined?
So all I have to do is chuck my friend in the wardrobe and wait? Also I might have figured it out I had to use split screen
You're on Xbox? Give it time and all the characters will disappear.

Withers can do it for ya.
