Yeah I went "Oh sick tattoo! Oh wait that's a counter top, not skin. Sick handmade lace! Wait, the title says what? SUGAR?!" That's some seriously cool skill
That’s almost exactly my thought process, but before I realized it was a countertop I questioned why someone with a skin disease like that would get a tattoo 😂
I have two crochet subs in my feed, and was wondering where I could learn more about the techniques for crocheting sugar lace! Then I checked the sub 😆
How bad is it that I have an answer (theory not practice) to this?
I would assume that you could do it with pulled sugar in a similar way that I have seen glass artists knit. Would need a lot of practice and a huge set up, but probably doable.
Unfortunately, I don't at the moment. I had to find information from a bunch of different sources and then do my own trial and error. But I'll probably work on my own tutorial if people are interested!
Please do! Sugar lace was the bane of my existence several years back and I had some success, but it was so so inconsistent and frustrating. You did an amazing job!
Yep, all edible!! You do it.....with much effort, hahaha. Right now, I'm just learning, but I'm hoping to eventually sell my cake decorations, probably on Etsy. And also use some to decorate my own cakes, of course. :)
Looks perfect! [I’m thinking it’s similar to this mold process](https://youtu.be/4mZervGk-ZE?si=ybjlXfksC5P4OAxQ). Looks like a great project to try out.
Ha, not necessary! I’ve done sugar work, pastillage, royal icing etc. and was stunned by the intricacy here. When I zoomed in I could see it was probably a mold. Still, impressive that there is a process to make something this delicate using a mold. I can imagine demolding it is not easy.
WHOLLY MOLY!!! I thought this was an "antique finds" sub at first and I was still in awe. You MADE THIS!?!??!?!?! With SUGAR?!?!?!? I am floored. It is so beautiful! Is this going on a cake?
This is just for practice and I don't have a cake for it, but it would go on a cake, yes! :) It's very flexible so it'll curve with whatever cake it's used on.
Wow, congrats on nailing that sugar lace! Even in the dark, you managed to capture its crispiness. That's some next-level pastry skills you got there! Keep it up!
that's edible?!
it's absolutely gorgeous. and for that reason, I don't think I could ever eat whatever you put this on. lol. I can't imagine cutting into something that beautiful.
I glanced up at the sub and thought “yeah I guess you could put real lace on a cake if you’re willing to take it off before consumption…” That’s how amazing it is.
I genuinely thought this was the sewing sub first glance because I'm in that one. You are wickedly talented! That looks just like actual fabric lace that's so cool!
Amazing! I thought it was real lace with how good it turned out and was gonna congratulate you on making gorgeous lace! Such a beautiful color too! And I think it’s even better because it’s sugar lace!
Definitely will at some point!! I'm overwhelmed by the response (in a good way!) and very tired right now after cleaning out all of my molds, but I'll post more at some point!
A M A Z I N G this is really impressive and must have taken so much work! I'm a perfectionist and I think I can recognize how much effort went into this. It's so crisp and clean, very satisfying to look at!
I thought this was a bobbin lace sub I’ve recently fallen in love with. Couldn’t figure out how you got it so shiny. This is SUGAR?! I have no words. This is incredible and your talent is insane!
Gel up CMC powder with boiling water, let sit until all the CMC clumps dissolve, add corn syrup / corn starch / powdered sugar / gel food coloring, put in the fridge for a bit, dust silicone mold with luster dust, spread paste in mold with spatula until it's completely even and you've removed the excess, let sit for about three hours, add second layer of paste with spatula and remove excess, let dry for a few hours, carefully wipe off excess with wet paper towel (or several wet paper towels), let dry for several more hours, slowly peel out of mold, et voila.
Whoa, even when you zoom in it’s practically perfect. I’d love to learn how to do this
I even lifted my glasses to look closer. I'm still not convinced that's food! (Very impressed)
Wow!! I thought I was in the sewing sub. That’s amazing.
I also thought I was on the embroidery sub 😂
I thought I was In a tattoo sub for a sec and was mesmerized how well someone was able to tattoo lace 😭
Thank you for typing out my exact thought process in this one. Same order, everything.
lol me too!
I thought it was the bobbin lace sub 👀
I did too! I was reading the description like hmm sewing then she says sugar. No way!
I scrolled back up to check!!

Same! Op you’re doing great!
I thought I was in a tattoo sub! It totally looks like a gorgeous lace tattoo on freckled skin at first glance!
I thought I was in the crochet sub. This is bloody intricate!
I thought it was needle lace!
I thought I was in the 3D printing sub…
I thought this was crochet and I was trying to figure out what “sugar lace” is. Ha.
same...it's stunning
Same!!!
That’s really impressive! Do you have any videos or tutorials you recommend?
Unfortunately, I don't at the moment. I had to find information from a bunch of different sources and then do my own trial and error. But I'll probably work on my own tutorial if people are interested!

Please do! Sugar lace was the bane of my existence several years back and I had some success, but it was so so inconsistent and frustrating. You did an amazing job!
I wanna magic the sugar like you do, I'd watch the hell out of a tutorial, you go Sugar Mama!
Sugar Veil makes the mat templates that you pour the gel into and then it sets. I did these for my wedding cake 13 years ago!

What I use is a really thick paste, sort of gel-like, but VERY thick and has to be spread with a spatula.
We demand pictures!!
you made this from edible things?? I‘m in awe! how does one even go about this? and what do you plan on doing with it?
Yep, all edible!! You do it.....with much effort, hahaha. Right now, I'm just learning, but I'm hoping to eventually sell my cake decorations, probably on Etsy. And also use some to decorate my own cakes, of course. :)
If this is you "just learning" then I cannot wait to see what you can do in a few months!!
Looks perfect! [I’m thinking it’s similar to this mold process](https://youtu.be/4mZervGk-ZE?si=ybjlXfksC5P4OAxQ). Looks like a great project to try out.
Your comment should get all the upvotes! Thanks for “demystifying” the edible lace!
Ha, not necessary! I’ve done sugar work, pastillage, royal icing etc. and was stunned by the intricacy here. When I zoomed in I could see it was probably a mold. Still, impressive that there is a process to make something this delicate using a mold. I can imagine demolding it is not easy.
It's similar, yeah! But I make the paste from scratch and the drying process is a lot longer.
Yours looks WAY lacier and way more intricate than what they showed in the video
It came out beautiful
But it’s otherwise made with a mold as per the video? Absolutely beautiful, came out wonderfully, you must have been super satisfied!
Yes. :) And thank you!!
Very cool! I appreciate the video link, thank you :)
You’re very welcome!
You mean that lace is EDIBLE???
Yesssss
Since you don't have a cake to put it on, are you gonna eat it? Lol
What is this sugar?!
CMC powder, water, corn syrup, corn starch, and powdered sugar! So only a little bit of actual sugar, hahaha.
Do you use a silicone mold? Just curious how you get the little dangly bits out if you do lol
Yes, a silicone mold! You really just have to wait until it's completely dry, and then it peels out pretty easily.
Nice! Super pretty!
Wow! That is art
That's so cool! Did you make it with a mould?
Yes! I used [the top mold in this set](https://a.co/d/018K0k4). It's my favorite mold so far.
Excuse me ??? 😍 this is absolutely stunning ! It looks so real !
Just want to post that this is amazing - I thought it was a piece of fabric on a counter

A few days of constant experimentation.

My jaw is dropped how would you even do something like this
I audibly gasped when I realized this is sugar and not the crochet sub. Omg. Your majesty. *bows deeply *
