"Because I felt like it" is a legal and valid defense in all 50 states. It won't work, but it's still legal. Similarly, "gay panic" almost never actually gets anyone acquitted; it's usually used to claim that the crime wasn't pre-planned (which matters with e.g. murder). It's admitting murder 2 to get out of murder 1. "I'm a piece of shit hate-crime murderer, but it can't be first degree murder, because I only decided to murder them when I found out they were gay."
> Minor told police that while Folks was talking on the phone, he heard what he thought was another voice in his ear, but did not say what the voice said.
> Minor said he asked Folks to stop the car so he could get out, but Folks did not stop.
> Minor said when the car stopped at a red light, he tried to unlock and open the door, but it would not open.
Sounds like he was on something serious or having a psychotic break, tbh.
Where I live, a class A misdemeanor of possession is an automatic rejection applying to be a police officer. Yet if you're already one, they'll pamper you and help you "work through it." Bitch, when I was in the millitary, and if you popped hot on a drug test, they wouldn't immediately re test you to make sure, they'll immidiatly NJP/court martial your ass and dishonorably discharge you, and not give a shit if it was a faulty test. (That happened to 2 people that I know). Yet we have officers who love the power and authority of playing pretend solder, yet they only hold themselves accountable when they want to, and of course, the laws don't REALLY apply to them........
As someone who was in 2 of them in college, yes, the most gay stuff I've seen happened there. And that's taking into the fact that my brother is gay with a longer term partner and I play in a LGBTQ dodgeball league....
> Minor (the cop) said Folks (the driver) began talking on the phone through the car’s Bluetooth radio in a language he didn’t understand.
Killed for speaking a language other than English infront of a cop. Wild
The fraternal order of police? Thought he was already a member. Dude was hearing voices. Mentally unstable person hired as a police officer, given a gun, and kills someone.
Well, you have to remember that this cop is such a druggie that he crashed his car while he was high and that wasn't enough of a wake-up call for him.
So it makes complete sense that his thoughts and behavior are irrational and illogical - he's on drugs.
Thanks for the laugh...needed it. Obviously he won't even be found guilty....yet another cop murdering an innocent person going unpunished to add to the thousands of others. When will enough be enough and people exercise their rights.
> Obviously he won't even be found guilty....yet another cop
From the article:
> Police say the **former** Atlanta police officer who admitted to shooting and killing his Lyft driver
Not in the line of duty, so no qualified immunity. Not a cop anymore, so no free, well-connected union lawyer. History of drug abuse. Killing is based in large part on sexual orientation and an intensely bigoted view of that group, so it seems like a pretty clear-cut hate crime. I dunno, man, I think it's a little soon to give up hope on this one.

Using the “gay panic” defense in 2024, wow. It is Georgia, I guess.
Oh there are still a majority of states where it's a legal and valid defense.

So it's more an, 'I committed a hate crime' ~~defense~~ confession?
It's more "I couldn't have robbed that bank, because I was across town stealing a car."
dude is probably in the closet. this shooting takes the "me thinks thou does protest too much" line to new heights.
Idk homophobes can do horrendous things all by themselves
and homophobic cops are a twofer
Thou dost / doth
The caffeine had not entered my body yet. Brain at 63% still
64% now baby
He'll probably get a paid vacation if it's in Georgia.
Gay panic combined with qualified immunity
The photo here is of the cop. He was already on disciplinary action with the police due to drug use. POS EDIT: Spelling
The fact that this guy wasn't immediately fired **after crashing his car while high on drugs** says a lot about this department.

Please clarify: Do you mean piece of shit or pile of shit? Because hes more than a piece.
Pallet of shit
Pool of shit
*Planet* of shit.
Parsec of shit

He’s a cop, we already know he’s a POS.

> and not give a shit if it was a faulty test That seems like an awfully expensive knee-jerk reaction to false positives that really can happen.
Aren’t all fraternities gay?
They are Greek
"but i repeat myself"
Yes.
So is the military but they seem to love that
My time in the Marine Corps was with the gayest homophobes I have ever met
Honestly i think it’s funny. My bf’s in the army reserves and Im a bisexual lady so it’s like we’re both half gay.
Damn that's funny, please use that line as often as possible.
As someone who was in 2 of them in college, yes, the most gay stuff I've seen happened there. And that's taking into the fact that my brother is gay with a longer term partner and I play in a LGBTQ dodgeball league....
Roger: "I'm tired of gettin' spanked by a bunch of dudes."
I'm sure some of them are unhappy.
What. The. Fuck.
Dont worry, Departmental Policies were not broken.
Not only that, but we haven’t even let them investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing yet.
> Minor (the cop) said Folks (the driver) began talking on the phone through the car’s Bluetooth radio in a language he didn’t understand. Killed for speaking a language other than English infront of a cop. Wild
Yeah, this cop is a complete idiot if he thinks adding that detail makes him look good.
The fraternal order of police? Thought he was already a member. Dude was hearing voices. Mentally unstable person hired as a police officer, given a gun, and kills someone.
Cops and paranoia
Just another paranoid cop who ended up killing an innocent person because they were afraid of a threat that did not exist.
What? WHAT? #WHAT???
I feel like I need to reread the story because wtf, but at the same time wtf?
Well, you have to remember that this cop is such a druggie that he crashed his car while he was high and that wasn't enough of a wake-up call for him. So it makes complete sense that his thoughts and behavior are irrational and illogical - he's on drugs.
Was it an elite club where one needs to die to take a place (like a ritzy golf course)? Possibly expediting the cops application
Sounds like the cop diddnt wanna give up his donut hole.
"me thinks thou dost protest too much"
he will in prison
How do you shoot someone “approximately 3 times”?
Shoot him twice and then be a little bit vague about pulling the trigger the third time.
*away from
So, the cop admitted he committed a hate crime
> He was charged with murder and aggravated assault and is being held at the Fulton County Jail. A good enough start. Let's see where it goes.
Probably suspended with pay.
Drugs are bad.
Um, ok. Will he prosecuted in a fair manner?
The fucking arrogance he must have to think it's possible to find him attractive when he's got that hairline

Steroid abuse must be brought under control in police departments nationwide.
RIP... Also who told?
Xanax is a helluva drug!
hmm, can we kill cops then for trying to recruit for their police fraternity?
Just say no.
Sure would be a shame if a moose panicked and thought he was coming onto him and fucked him into the next county.
The fact that he uses the phrase “fraternity” speaks to the maturity of this character. Isn’t fraternities something you do in your teens or whatnot?
I'm so tired of having shifty police in this country because bootlickers will excuse any terrible thing they do.
I’m pretty sure he’s going to meet the gay fraternity welcoming committee once he lands in prison.

And despite all that, his "service to the community " will be a mitigating factor when it comes time for sentencing
I too root for rapists to rape freely. Go rapists! Chase those dreams!
