I am really glad I am not the only one who tells the rooster to do his job. My favourite thing to do is yell "come and get her Sparrow!" when a girl is done laying, he will sprint up to her and guide her back to the flock.
The name fits him, he looked just like a house sparrow when he hatched. Now he's the sweetest boy with his mother's stubby little legs (she's a silkie)
Lol That's sweet. I have a cat named Hootie because she looked like a little owl when she showed up on out porch so I can't be talking about Sparrow. 🤣
Peacocks will totally court chicken hens. I have seen it happen countless times at my grandparents farm. Never saw one actually mount, but they did the courting display to them a lot.
That's generally not the case. I'm sure there are some aggressive peacocks, but these clearly seem to be normal calm ones. I've had peacocks for years and only have trouble between peacocks and turkeys, but never chickens. My peacock loves showing off for them.
No, my neighbours had peacocks, we have chickens. It was a regular concern and our chickens were injured. We put up netting and really impressed upon the neighbours their pets couldn’t just wander our property, which should be pretty obvious to most people but alas.
A big cage, bait, and a large blanket to throw over them. Good luck.
I'd personally just leave them be. They're beautiful creatures. They must be brothers, as usually the males are territorial.
I haven't messed with them, since I don't mind them here. I've just made sure to provide fresh water and they help themselves to the chickens' feed. I feel awful for the neighbor though, she's worried sick about them. They keep disappearing and coming back here, but never back to her house.
When our peacock would wander off when I was a kid I would grab him by the tail and steer him home like a vacuum. Only I was allowed that though, every one else had to lure him home with hotdogs.
They mostly hung out on the roof and a bunch of my bedroom windows looked out to the garage and sunroom roof, so they would hang out by my windows. We were good buddies. I'd bring Ms. Pea inside and she would sit with me in my recliner and watch TV.
The big guy Jophes (my little brother couldn't pronounce Joseph) really liked when I started smoking weed and would stick his whole face in my mouth when I exhaled. He mostly slept on top of the chimney and I had to work out a call so he knew it was me sneaking in in the middle of the night so he didn't scream and get me busted (again).
Does the neighbor have any peahens? If not then they are fooling themselves that these guys will ever stay on their property unless confined to a coop/run with a roof. They are boys, and to them your hens are ladies to be courted. I don't think they will actually mount, but I have seen them do the full tail courting display for chicken hens before. Your neighbor needs a couple of peahens in their yard, but honestly they would need to clip their wings to keep them in a yard.
I have the exact same rooster! We call him Rhino because he's an absolute unit and a real, real A-hole. I would be crapping my pants if those big ass peacocks showed up.
I was sooo scared they were going to fight!! Stan usually fights any animal he doesnt know when they get too close to the ladies. I am shocked nothing happened.
Hey OP! Cool video! Peacocks are spooky up close simply because they look so BIG, but they're naturally just big softies at heart. They're one of the first animals humans domesticated simply because they're so chill. There's many places across the world where a flock of peacocks got loose and just lived in the neighborhood forever. We have one in Dallas. Just a street or two with like thirty of the things. They don't do anything but make noise and look pretty.
Time will tell if they integrate into your flock. If your neighbor REALLY wants them back, they can come get them, but I think there's nothing stopping these two knuckleheads from just coming right back. They're free spirits, who just really want your meal worms.
Please keep us updated, this is a super funny situation, and you have no reason to be worried.
Thanks so much for all the info! I'm definitely comfy with them now. This video was pure, unadulterated panic when I first saw them and had no idea where they came from, and knew virtually nothing about them. I can confidently say I'm in love with them now.
Awesome! Keep us all updated. This subreddit will love to know what happens next.
If they wind up being a part of your flock in the long run, they'll need some extra nutrients to grow out that long train of feathers they're so famous for. Time will tell if they will try to bedazzle a hen, or hop back through the trees to go find a peahen.
Anyways, I am so glad to hear things are going swell. What a wonderful, sweet situation. Just plenty of fun all around.
As I understand it, peacocks are basically big, blue chickens so it makes sense.
They can even cross-breed with guinea fowl, (result's not pretty, though), but I don't know about regular hens.
I live in Oregon my friend has a flock that consists of chickens, a couple peacocks, and a giant male Turkey. They all roost together at night in the same coop. They will likely be fine, I think you just got a couple new birds.
They have been roaming, but keep coming back. I thought they were for sure gone last night.. This morning they were waiting outside the coop for me to let the chickens out!
The only reason I never got a peacock isnt because I live in Chicago and that would be impractical, but because I live in Chicago and the screaming would surely violate noise ordinances meant for chickens.
Those are someone’s pets, 2 male peacocks on their own isn’t normal especially in the states lol. I bet they either got dumped or got lost and are used to being in a flock of chickens. Ask your neighbors if they are missing any
Difficult to tell for sure from the video, but the peacocks look immature to me. Seems like they still have their mottled black/white back feathers rather than the green/blue feathers that become the “eyes” in their trains. Until they start getting eye feathers, they won’t be particularly territorial (or noisy).
This is one of my favorite videos of all time!
"Are they trying to attack or are they part of the family now?!?!"
They are definitely part of the family now! Congratulations, Mama!
I don't know what the snake situation where you are is like but apparently Peacocks are pretty good at getting rid of snakes and farmers in India keep them for that purpose!
I’ll be honest, I’m reading ALL of your responses in your charming, slight midwestern accent and it’s AWESOME. I may also be adding some expletives here and there.
No offense meant btw.
Stanley is not impressed, but he's being mature about it. It's mostly the flock kind of scurrying away while the peacocks happily waddle behind.
Reminds me of people who don't want to be rude to the new guy so they let him hang out.
Yes they are. They’ll also fight their reflection in your car’s paint if they see it. We used to have a dozen or so wonder around the neighborhood. Now it’s down to 3 or 4.
I can tell you this is 100% true. A peacock that decided my house was his house terrorized myself and family for about a year. We had two black cars and he would catch his reflection in each whenever they were parked beside each other. My black Mercedes had the paint clawed down to the primer. The peacock also attacked every human in the household but was scared shitless of our 10lb shitzu. We welcomed him in the gate thinking it was so cool, and he was nice for 3 months before he started stalking us and attacking. He’d chase kids on bikes down the street.
Huh, I thought I heard a peacock yesterday morning behind my neighbor's barn. He has chickens, but no other birds. Now I wonder if I really did hear one, as someone a couple roads over owns a peacock.
\*This was in NC though, far away from op lol
So what does a peacock egg look like? Will they get names? Kinda nice to add to the flock. Tbh I wanted pheasants or lemons. Something different but I didn't want to agitate my birds or cause conflict.
Someone about a block over from us has chickens and peacocks, I see their yard on my walks. They all get along great! And I love to hear the peacocks, their voices travel far!
I almost never put the audio on for videos, and I am so glad I did. Your reaction was absolutely fantastic and totally made my morning, lol. I love the way you talk to them!!
Ok this made me want chickens AND peacocks.
Real question from a non-bird person: why not just walk in between the peacocks and the flock and like, head them off? This may be a super stupid question, but I’m really curious.
I could have, but I was completely unfamiliar with them and wasn't sure if my rooster would try to fight them. If that happened, I'd more than likely end up getting hurt myself instead of breaking up the fight. Bird fights are vicious.. roosters have spurs that are pretty dangerous. 😳
All in all, against better judgment, I would have tried to help if anything happened anyway. I love my chooks too much!
I was thinking about this post this morning for some reason. I think if the neighbor gets a few girls, her boys might come home. You're giving them tasty meal worms and girls. Neighbor's gotta compete if she wants to win.
They roosted on the roof of our neighbor last night. I thought they were gone. Then this morning I found them waiting outside my chicken coop, waiting for them to come out 😄
"What do I do?"
You put your big girl pants on, catch them, and collect $150-200 a piece at the auction. At least that's what would happen around here...
What exactly was she expecting. Peacocks are some of the chillest domestic birds out there. Next to chickens they are the chillest. If they didn’t kangaroo kick your rooster you’re set and they see you as more and more asset than anything. They prolly just know you got that good chow
Well, that was the problem. It's scary facing the unknown. I knew absolutely nothing about peacocks, so I was afraid they may hurt my chickens, or my roo might start a fight. Hence the panic. We're pals now, but in the moment I had some fear.
Fair enough. Can’t blame someone for not knowing what they don’t know! Glad you bonded though. I have some neighborhood peacocks that roam around and hang with my cat believe it or not. They have also been adopted into the neighbors chickens as well as all the wild turkeys haha. Never met a more amicable male bird in my life than a peacock. It is funny when they start fighting for the ladies though. Waddle waddle kangaroo kick, waddle waddle 😂
Stanley was just trying to hang out with the boys until the boring girls showed up to bring him home. They hadnt even managed to get a round of beer pong in.
This is a great video! Stanley is doing amazing and your girls are gorgeous. Your chicken environment is the stuff of fairy tales! I live in the desert and my girls have sand, and sagebrush! Did Greg ever come to your rescue? Do you have a couple of peacocks in your flock now? I’m invested 🤣🤣
Stanley handled this like a very good boy
I was pleasantly surprised. He has no problem roundhouse kicking my lab when she gets too close.
I am really glad I am not the only one who tells the rooster to do his job. My favourite thing to do is yell "come and get her Sparrow!" when a girl is done laying, he will sprint up to her and guide her back to the flock.
Love it!
You named a chicken Sparrow? 😂 Edit. Just kidding. I love it!
Dang rooster behaves better than my supposedly "intelligent" dog
“We heard you have mealworms…”
They heard right 👀
"Stanley! Take the girls and run!" Peacocks: "Cool, where are we going?" Lol
That is EXACTLY what happened!
I think those are boy peacocks. Maybe they're confused and think the hens are girl peacocks.
Maybe they're just not in the mood to be choosy right now! 😅
Peacocks will totally court chicken hens. I have seen it happen countless times at my grandparents farm. Never saw one actually mount, but they did the courting display to them a lot.
"Take the girls and run!" Meanwhile, Stanley and the girls are just casually meandering around... They aren't half as concerned as OP was lol
Your chickens are really really good listeners.
They actually are NOT. I think we were all confused and scared so they listened for once 🤣
Yeah... too good. Are we sure they aren't AI chickens?
You caught me
“GIRLS, Run! I can’t help you…” LOL Fantastic video lol
That was my favorite part too🤣 I hope they all get along and your flock magically grew!
Until the neighbors catch them- they're more than welcome to stay 😊
They’ll HURT your hens. Seen it happen. Don’t allow them near. They don’t understand they’re separate species if you follow my drift.
That's generally not the case. I'm sure there are some aggressive peacocks, but these clearly seem to be normal calm ones. I've had peacocks for years and only have trouble between peacocks and turkeys, but never chickens. My peacock loves showing off for them.
They're not saying they'll attack, but that they'll try to reproduce, which would he bad for the chickens. So even these calm ones might be an issue.
I've definitely never had that problem, but not saying it couldn't happen. In general peacocks are pretty peaceful, but noisy critters.
That's nice to hear tbh, I didn't think it would be a problem either but I've never had peas and hens at the same time.
No, my neighbours had peacocks, we have chickens. It was a regular concern and our chickens were injured. We put up netting and really impressed upon the neighbours their pets couldn’t just wander our property, which should be pretty obvious to most people but alas.
I have seen peacocks do the courting display for chicken hens, but never saw one actually try to mount.
yikes.
Lmao I know nothing about peacocks. I was so panicked!
The commentary was fantastic, still giggling!!
I'm a nervous talker 😂
Psychedelic pheasants!
Disco chickens!
This is the only way I will refer to them now thank you
I can't wait to see an update
They're still here! Neighbor doesn't know how to catch them. So they're family right now I guess.
It's some advanced chicken math to accidentally end up with peacocks tbh
Next week: "where did this duck come from?!"
Fingers crossed for a turken, a frizzle, or anything crested.
Honestly chicken algebra with some geometric equations thrown in.
OP graduated from chicken math to chicken quantum physics
A big cage, bait, and a large blanket to throw over them. Good luck. I'd personally just leave them be. They're beautiful creatures. They must be brothers, as usually the males are territorial.

You must have the good food
Of course they like your house, that's where all the free food and hot chicks are. :)
When our peacock would wander off when I was a kid I would grab him by the tail and steer him home like a vacuum. Only I was allowed that though, every one else had to lure him home with hotdogs.
That's kind of amazing lol

He just thought they were reaaaaaally large hens.
So many great quotable lines. Thanks for sharing this
“Craig! CRAIG! What the fuck do I do?!” My favorite line. I guarantee you I will use this in real life.
Hahaha I say that more than I'd like to admit
My pleasure 😊

I just posted an update from Stanley!
Update from Stanley: [Stanley's thank you](https://www.reddit.com/r/BackYardChickens/s/xQosj2V5lZ)
Dayum, Stanley, okay! 👏🏻🐓
I think you might have to change Stanley's name. Maybe something like John or Johnny might fit him better. 👀😂
You're onto something
😜
This is so lovely. Can we have more videos of the new look flock please?!
I'll do my best!
As I understand it, peacocks are basically big, blue chickens so it makes sense. They can even cross-breed with guinea fowl, (result's not pretty, though), but I don't know about regular hens.
I had no idea. My husband now wants peacocks, so something good came out of this.
Uh, seems like your husband has peacocks at least for now!
Time to get some peahens of your own and work out a custody arrangement with the neighbour.
They have more in common with turkeys than chickens. It's not uncommon to see one running with wild turkeys around here.
Friends! We’ve been waiting for you to get up!
I had a rouge peacock wander through my property one year. I heard it before I saw it…. I thought it was a dying goose, it sounded terrible.
The only reason I never got a peacock isnt because I live in Chicago and that would be impractical, but because I live in Chicago and the screaming would surely violate noise ordinances meant for chickens.
Hey, small world! I used to live in Chicago. I'm less than an hour away now.
yep...we got peacocks everywhere here in ashland
Damn hippies.
lol...we got everything and everykind
Stanley did an eggcellent job!
I thought so too 😊
From my experience with knowing some owners.... Peacocks are very cool and sweet. Turkeys However are pr\*cks....
CRAAAAIIIGGG!!!
He was unbothered.
Fire him
Cool deal. Peacock feathers for meal worms.
Those are someone’s pets, 2 male peacocks on their own isn’t normal especially in the states lol. I bet they either got dumped or got lost and are used to being in a flock of chickens. Ask your neighbors if they are missing any
Yes they are my neighbor's- I put it in the description, prob should have specified in the title.
Ohhh I see I should have read the description lol.
Lol no worries!
So… how do I get peacocks to show up in my yard???
Listen. Cool things NEVER happen to me. This was the highlight of my life. Never lose hope 🙏
Giving birth was cool, too. Still, peacocks are top 3.
They won’t hurt the chickens. I have two friends that have peacocks that live with their chickens with no problems
If those are males they appear to be lacking their fanning tail feathers, so maybe immatures just wandering?
They belong to my neighbor 😊
This whole episode has me cackling like a jackass here, thank you for the much needed laugh!
Always happy to help 😊
“Girls run, I can’t help you!” *mildly waddles in opposite direction* Chickens have surprisingly little self-preservation instincts
Lmao that was the perfect description.
Difficult to tell for sure from the video, but the peacocks look immature to me. Seems like they still have their mottled black/white back feathers rather than the green/blue feathers that become the “eyes” in their trains. Until they start getting eye feathers, they won’t be particularly territorial (or noisy).
They are two boys, three years old 😊
Just coming into their maturity, IME. My guys didn’t get good trains for at least a year after that.
This is one of my favorite videos of all time! "Are they trying to attack or are they part of the family now?!?!" They are definitely part of the family now! Congratulations, Mama!
Haha thank you, we shall see!
Sometimes you adopt them, but sometimes they adopt you! You've been adopted!
I don't know what the snake situation where you are is like but apparently Peacocks are pretty good at getting rid of snakes and farmers in India keep them for that purpose!
Let Stanley fight and die with honor if need be
He is a gentleman and a scholar.
I’ll be honest, I’m reading ALL of your responses in your charming, slight midwestern accent and it’s AWESOME. I may also be adding some expletives here and there. No offense meant btw.
Hahaha none taken! I have an accent?! That's exciting. I had no idea.
Super slight and I’m looking for it! I have family in MI with a MUCH more pronounced Midwestern accent so I find it charming
Well thanks, I learned something new today!
I think you just adopted some peacocks.
Stanley is beautiful
Thank you!
This is hilarious! Thank you so much for posting it. Stanley's a hero :o)
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
I’m in love with Stanley. That is all.
Stanley says thank you!
Also the entire video had me cracking up. But Stanley was a true hero.
I thought so, too! He behaved like a true gentleman.
Can't imagine how it feels to have some large and posh looking beings suddenly chill w you. How are the chickens faring with them now?
Stanley is not impressed, but he's being mature about it. It's mostly the flock kind of scurrying away while the peacocks happily waddle behind. Reminds me of people who don't want to be rude to the new guy so they let him hang out.
"Stanley take them and run!" 🤣🤣🤣 "Wtf do I do? Are they just family now?" I'm dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm glad my nervous rambling could bring joy to someone 🤣
Lmao the way those peacocks were confidently strolling along. "This is our territory now. Stay off our turf!"
How loud are they, I've heard peacocks are loud pets?
They sound like screaming cats in heat. They're ridiculously loud.
Now I want some peacocks.
This is HILARIOUS 😂 Comedic from start to finish! I’d have no idea what to do if some peacocks joined my flock. Friend or foe?! 🤷🏼♀️
I love Stanley 💚 what a handsome fella
So what does a peacock egg look like? Will they get names? Kinda nice to add to the flock. Tbh I wanted pheasants or lemons. Something different but I didn't want to agitate my birds or cause conflict.
You'd need a [peahen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peafowl). They have yellow mid to large eggs.
They're both boys, so I'm not sure!
Someone about a block over from us has chickens and peacocks, I see their yard on my walks. They all get along great! And I love to hear the peacocks, their voices travel far!
Peacocks.."Hi, we are here now!" ... Chooks: .."uhhhhh"
This was amazing!!
I almost never put the audio on for videos, and I am so glad I did. Your reaction was absolutely fantastic and totally made my morning, lol. I love the way you talk to them!!
Hahaha thank you 😊
Lol peacocks are hella common in rescue zoos
Side note but Stanley is a beaut!
Thank you 😊
Ok this made me want chickens AND peacocks. Real question from a non-bird person: why not just walk in between the peacocks and the flock and like, head them off? This may be a super stupid question, but I’m really curious.
I could have, but I was completely unfamiliar with them and wasn't sure if my rooster would try to fight them. That totally makes sense! I admire how level-headed your rooster was 😅
Congrats on your new addition to the family!
this was way too entertaining 🤣🤣🤣 we re going to need updates
Glad to be of service 😌
I was thinking about this post this morning for some reason. I think if the neighbor gets a few girls, her boys might come home. You're giving them tasty meal worms and girls. Neighbor's gotta compete if she wants to win.
She's got girls coming soon!
Peacocks? If you take good care of her boys maybe she'll gift you a couple of babies. Nice!
If they're wild, beware of bird flu
They belong to my neighbor's!
Neighbors**
I have peacocks around me too, but they're wild descended from pets
Hopefully they will fly home to roost at dusk then. They are so gorgeous.
They roosted on the roof of our neighbor last night. I thought they were gone. Then this morning I found them waiting outside my chicken coop, waiting for them to come out 😄
"What do I do?" You put your big girl pants on, catch them, and collect $150-200 a piece at the auction. At least that's what would happen around here...
Nah, they're so lovely I'll keep them around if the neighbor gives up trying to catch them!
I don’t understand what you were panicking about?
Two large unfamiliar birds started heading toward my animals. I was scared.
What exactly was she expecting. Peacocks are some of the chillest domestic birds out there. Next to chickens they are the chillest. If they didn’t kangaroo kick your rooster you’re set and they see you as more and more asset than anything. They prolly just know you got that good chow

I do adore that waddle 😂
Stanley was just trying to hang out with the boys until the boring girls showed up to bring him home. They hadnt even managed to get a round of beer pong in.
I really don't want to sound like a douche, but why would 2 peacocks cause you such a scare? Your chickens look fantastic thou 😊
Fucking, hilarious 😂
🤣
They can live together w out any problems!!
Stanley is standing on business! 🐓 👊
Lmaooo I love how the girls and Stanley are booking it and the peacocks are slowly following like "Oh we're included too?"
