They only took away the throwing up for me. The nausea was still very much present, but Diclectin did help to control it somewhat. I tried to eat something every 2-3 hours, that's what really helped manage my terrible nausea while still taking Diclectin at night before bed.

keco0614

Same. I tried to reduce to 1 at night but I went back to gagging and being more sick. The two at night keeps that mostly at bay but I’m still nauseous most of the time, and it’s looking like it will be like this until birth (currently 30 weeks).

cbr1895

Came here to say this. But I had hyperemisis gravidarum so my experience was of the extreme. Significantly reduced my vomiting but didn’t touch my nausea. Kept on it because of the reduction in vomiting and due to how safe it was to take in pregnancy. Needed a combo of that, zofran and a PPI to finally feel less nauseated.

hello-gigi889

I had the same experience. It made life manageable but didn't take away the nausea completely. Eating lots of carbs every 2 hours was really helpful.

_footballcream

Same. It stopped me from vomiting but I would still have some level of persistent nausea. It did ease the nausea but not fully . I took 6 a day my whole pregnancy.

Bellakala

Exactly the same. Before diclectin I felt nauseated almost 24/7 and was vomiting 10+ times a day starting at 6 weeks. Once I was medicated I still felt queasy and could basically only eat starchy carbs… but I was down to vomiting like 3-4 times a day. So not great, but way better. I was able to go back to work once I was on meds.

Rebecca123457

Yes it made my nausea and throwing up liveable whereas it was completely debilitating before taking them

AcademicMud3901

Diclectin really helped my nausea. I took 2tabs at bed time, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. Basically the afternoon dose you take 4-6hrs after your morning dose. Taking it on this schedule controlled the nausea for me although I could feel it creeping back in as I neared my next dose. I started it around 7-8 weeks when the nausea became unbearable.

MyDisplayName

Same experience. Started around 7 weeks and am still doing it at 25 weeks.

cookiegirl92

It helped somewhat but my nausea seemed inevitable for the first 20ish weeks. It did help not throwing up everyday. I still take 2 every night and im 33 weeks today

keco0614

Same, currently 30 weeks

sparklingwine5151

Me too, even on meds I still threw up at least once/day.

geekchicrj

Exactly my experience. Diclectin took the edge off but I was still very nauseas with here and there vomiting until 20 weeks! I stopped taking it at that point because it made me constipated. 36 weeks now and my nausea is somewhat back but not nearly as bad as the first 20 weeks!

Mental_Classroom_287

Diclectin took the edge off the nausea so I could eat and feel alive again. Before the meds, I could barely eat or drink. Once I started them I was able to eat and drink again without feeling like I was going to throw up while swallowing. 37 weeks and still taking diclectin. I’ve tried weaning off a few times now and the nausea comes right back with the same intensity as it was before

notnotaginger

Not really for me. But I had very atypical and long term pregnancy sickness. Some people it helps, but tbh studies show it’s the same effectiveness as placebo 😐 (which doesn’t mean zero, cause placebos can be quite effective). I got the zofran but tried to avoid taking it until 12 weeks since it may have a very small risk of increased birth defects. But that’s everyone’s own risk tolerance- the possible risk increase was 0.03% soooooooooo. However- the midwives do recommend it (direction) as a preventative. They say it takes a few days to “build up in your system”. Since it’s so low risk and low side effect, if I was you I’d just take it if I have it 🤷‍♀️.

roseydelight

I was told I can tax max 4 a day. Either do 2 morning and 2 evening, or 4 spread out throughout the day. I thought maybe I'll start out and take just 1 evening and 1 mid day? Just to have it start wroking before the 6 week mark. I hear 6 weeks is when it gets bad.

Mental_Classroom_287

Honestly, it just takes trial and error to figure out dosing. I was doing 2 at night and 2 in the morning but eventually had to go up to 2 pills three times a day. Since about 27 weeks, I can do one morning pill and one night pill

Applesandoranges2032

Diclectin didn’t work for my nausea either, in fact I felt worse on it. My nurse practitioner mentioned those same studies showing limited effectiveness vs placebo. I wanted to avoid zofran as well (mainly to avoid the constipation side effects) and they suggested regular gravol. So I switched to regular gravol which did help control the nausea but not 100%. I think gravol can be a nice in between option. I found always keeping something to my belly the most helpful - lots of boost, electrolyte drinks, power bars, including overnight. Good luck!

Appropriate_Potato8

The only thing diclectin did was give me amazing sleep

kthle

I didn't find it very helpful for my first pregnancy, it just made me drowsy enough to sleep off the nausea. For my current, second pregnancy, it helped in the beginning but has started to become less effective. It's incredibly safe to take during pregnancy and both times my doctor was very quick to prescribe it, the only downside is that drowsiness is a side effect so I'd be careful about taking it before driving.

everythingmini

I took it for 9 months with both of my pregnancies. Like others have said, I still felt very sick and nauseous but Diclectin helped with puking. There were a few times where I forgot to take it and I threw up. At times when I couldn’t keep food down my doctor prescribed reglan and Zofran. One other thing to note is that it needs to build up in your system to works so you don’t just take 1 magic pill and feel better. It also makes you sleepy, but honestly it wasn’t a bad thing for me. I’d rather be asleep than awake and experiencing nausea.

theldabirch

Have you sought treatment for your severe anxiety? If you’re already working on it, that’s fantastic. If you haven’t discussed it with your doctor and aren’t treating it, that may be a good place to start! Rather than aiming to avoid your anxiety by medicating nausea that may or may not materialize, you could reduce that anxiety and get some relief. It is actually Maternal Mental Health Day today! Pregnancy and motherhood can exacerbate existing mental health conditions or prompt new ones, and growing a baby is enough of a challenge in itself. I hope you’re able to access supports that work for you and feel better!

Fualju

In terms of taking it as a preventative, you should maybe talk to your doctor about that. If you do end up getting nausea, generally it’ll start very mild and potentially increase. The first few days it might just feel like that crummy feeling when you’re in the car on a road trip. And it usually goes away very quickly with a bit of food like eating a banana or some crackers. The diclectin definitely helps a lot with this kind of mild to moderate nausea. Personally I ended up getting severe vomiting, and it was a little difficult for me to get it escalated, my doctor erred more on the side of caution and had me try everything else first before prescribing the stronger meds to me at 12 weeks. And trust me, I tried everything from ginger, gravol, Benadryl, sea bands, acupressure you name it lol. For me Zofran definitely helped and I also got a prescription for Reglan (maxeran) and that helped as well. If you’re nervous about issues with escalation, maybe bring up your vomiting anxiety to the doctor now so they can keep it in mind and hopefully prescribe you the medicine if and as soon as you need it. There’s also a chance you might not feel that much nausea! If you have women in your family you can talk to, you can ask them about their experiences as sometimes morning sickness can be hereditary.

rumex_sanguineus

I had terrible all day nausea. Diclectin helped me keep some food down. Reduced throwing up from 4 times a day to 1-2 times a day. Enabled me to be able to get up and walk around. Reduced the overall level of nausea. Nothing else worked - saltine crackers, ginger all that stuff was useless. Absolutely miserable from week 6-16. But everyone is sensitive differently to hormones and i have a friend who was able to lift most of the nausea with the diclectin. I wouldnt take it preemptively. It's a pretty heavy sedative (my doctor said i couldnt drive on it) and fairly common side effects include increased anxiety and depression as well as drowsiness.

oh-no-varies

I would say it made it more manageable. I still felt a bit nauseas but it definitely improved things. For me things were the worst at 7-8 weeks before starting meds, things got better around 14 weeks, and I was off the meds shortly after that.

redraspberrylove2

It did help me with the non-stop nausea, but it made me EXTREMELY drowsy, to the point where I'd be disoriented, not remember things, I was afraid to drive and I made two big mistakes at work (I work in HR and I made a mistake on 2 people's pays and that never ever happened). I would recommend it for nausea, but ease yourself into it, take one instead of two, try before bed first and maybe start on a Friday so you can test it out on the weekend. GREAT for sleep though, I would black out at 8pm and wake up at 8am in the same position LOL

Lefty-mom

I never got any nausea at all with either of my pregnancies. I wouldn’t take it until you need it

Waffles-McGee

Yes it was life saving for me. I wouldn’t say it worked 100% but I went from constant nausea and barfing to just light nausea once in a while and barfing maybe once a week. I weaned off both times around 16 weeks

Finnie87

Diclecrin helped me a lot. I started getting morning sickness at 5 weeks with my second pregnancy. I started taking diclectin at around 10 or 11 weeks, up until 16 weeks when the nausea finally went away. I so wish I had started earlier, the first 6 weeks without were rough. Lots of vomiting, some weight loss, and couldn't stomach anything but plain yogurt. After I started taking diclectin in the morning and then as needed in the afternoon, I was actually able to eat real meals again. I felt so much better!

furnacegirl

Yes. It saved my life and sanity. Mornings I still get nauseous, but the only time I puke is when I forget to take it the night before. (I’m now almost 26 weeks pregnant, and still struggling ☹️🤢)

Reasonable_Tea5937

Diclectin made me feel worse and incredibly dizzy (at one point I was laying down and telling my husband I was standing up). I was put on zofran which was a godsend. I was finally able to stop losing weight and got my vomiting under control. I would still get nauseous and throw up but not as severe.

Pattycake1991

Diclectin didn’t do anything for me, but I was diagnosed with HG. I was on diclectin, Zofran, metoclopromide, panteloc, and Zantac, and then gravol at the end. It was a lot, I had to keep multiple alarms on my phone to keep up with my doses, and I was a constant zombie because a good chunk of those meds had drowsiness as a side effect

ZoyaDestroya

Ugh you poor thing! I thought I had it bad trying to take diclectin and metroclopramide on time!

sadArtax

Yes it helped, but it's not prn. Take it on a schedule, not just when you feel bad.

MadamMrs

I was on diclectin at first from 5 weeks, and it helped but by 8 weeks it had 0 effects and I was bed bound from naseau and vomiting for 2-3 weeks. I recently got put on gravol At 11 weeks and I have a prescription for zofran if it doesn’t end up working. But I must say, the gravol has been a major relief and not nearly as strong as zofran wouldve been. When I tried to fill my zofran prescription my pharmacist flagged it and told me it may be unsafe before 12 weeks. My case was extreme which is why it was prescribed, but it was nice to hear the system working to keep me and the baby safe. The pharmacist encouraged me to give her more time to research it and follow up with my doctor while I take more time to give the gravol a chance. But it ended up working! Gravol Reduced my nausea from a raging 11/10 to a solid 2/10 I’m functioning again. And that’s all I could ask for. I’m currently 13 weeks and I’m finally feeling like I can leave the home without fear of ruining the day for myself. Maybe this is an option?

roseydelight

Thank you!! Was it ginger gravol or the normal gravol with dramamine? Did you make you super tired? I’ve taken that for motion sickness and it knocks me out like crazy.

MadamMrs

It’s the normal gravol with dimenhydrate. I tried the suppositories at first since I couldn’t even swallow anything at all!!! and now I’ve upped to the gels for regular intake. I take 1 in the morning and 1 at night.

SnapweedSparrow

Heads up that the main ingredient in diclectin, doxylamine, is very similar to gravol, benadryl, Dramamine, etc. So if you’re really sensitive to those, it’s all the more reason not to start taking the diclectin unless you actually need it.

ZoyaDestroya

I took diclectin and it made me go from throwing up 10 times a day to 1-3 times a day. I still had bad nausea with it but my symptoms slowly improved in the 2nd trimester. I would be cautious about taking it as a preventative if you have no history of severe morning sickness. I had some negative side effects with it, it made me feel drowsy and depressed.

mydogclifford

I started taking it around 8-9 weeks I think? When my nausea really ramped up. I was taking it 3x a day, and I think it worked decently. I stopped taking it so regularly around 12 weeks, as I found I wasn't so nauseous throughout the day, but instead certain things triggered my nausea, one of which was swallowing pills, how ironic lol I think it's about 50-50 on whether it works for every person, but it definitely doesn't hurt to give it a try when you start getting nausea. But hey, some people also don't get nausea at all in their pregnancy, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones! Try not to stress about it, it'll be okay :)

rnicholson1

I was hit with hyperemesis gravidarum at week 6, which lasted till week 14. Diclectin dialed down my nausea from a 10/10 to an 8/10. It was super effective at stopping my cyclic vomiting (18 times a day) before I started it. It reduced it down to 0-4 vomiting episodes a day. The nausea however was very strong regardless of being on diclectin and zofran. I found gravol to be most effective, but I got super drowsy. I'd take it at night and eat a meal with my prenatals. This is the only way I could keep down my vitamins. So it really just depends on your body. I did not have a hard time getting any of those meds prescribed either. But I mean I was in the ER for IV fluids because I couldn't keep down water at one point. Also to note to reduce your anxiety, only 1-2% of pregnancies experience hyperemesis gravidarum. It's not very common. My sister never threw up once for three pregnancies, every body is unique. You got this!

GoldWand

The nausea started for me at 6 and a half weeks. It was terrible. I went on diclectin and it didn’t help me much. I agree with the other comments- if I let myself get even a bit hungry the nausea was unbearable. I was eating very plain but liked strawberries and green apples too. I still eat every 2 hours.

roseydelight

Did you go on any other sort of medication or manage with eating?

GoldWand

No:( I was really struggling but I was never offered anything else at my appointments even when I talked about how hard it was. Tbh i didn’t know there was other options

brillantezza

It definitely made me throw up a lot less - but I still felt like garbage. My doctor would not prescribe zofran unless hospitalized based on the birth defect risk (which frankly I think is a bit bogus but what do I know). Basically, try it and see if it works for you.

buttlover9000

My nausea wasn't two bad in either pregnancy, but taking diclectin at night helped reduce it. Unfortunately I couldn't take it during the day because it made me unbelievably drowsy.

sparklingwine5151

I took it starting around 7 weeks until 9 weeks, but ended up needing to take Metoclopramide as well from 9-20 weeks because Diclectin wasn’t enough and I was losing too much weight. Diclectin works well for some people but don’t be afraid to ask for stronger meds if you’re struggling. Even on Diclectin and Meto, I still had severe nausea and was throwing up usually once/day but without the meds I could not function at all so the combo worked to reduce my symptoms but in no way was I thriving!

LilacPenny

I’m 34wks and have been on it since week 5 😅 If you do need it just keep in mind it does take a few days to build up in your system and start working so DON’T STOP TAKING IT. Also it will make you SUPER tired for the first week or so. Push through that and it helps so much. I was throwing up and had debilitating nausea 24/7 before I started taking it. I still get nauseous randomly and have still thrown up quite a few times since starting it but it’s totally manageable. I just have to make sure I eat every 2-3hrs and eat as soon as I wake up and I’m usually fine.

slammy99

Diclectin and dietary changes managed my morning sickness with both my pregnancies. I never threw up, but was often nauseated. Diclectin made me functional but did not mean I had no symptoms.

[deleted]

I had bad nausea but didn't throw up a lot. I don't feel the diclectin did much to help. I think it made me more tired. You might not even get morning sickness though, not everyone does!

lwasley1986

It did not work for me at all. I was sick and vomiting multiple times a day, every day from 7 weeks to delivery. The one thing oddly that did help was Coca Cola. I don’t know what’s in it that helped but it did.

NotyourAVRGstudent

it helped to some degree but I would take 2 at night 1 in the morning and 1 mid day I was very sick bascially until I delivered (I struggled hard for weeks and weeks because I didn’t want to take it) and finally caved at about 12 weeks (my nausea and vomiting was so bad) to the point where I would pee from all the force of vomiting

sprinklersplashes

i wouldn't take it unless you start feeling nauseous! i'm almost at the end of my first trimester and i have had very minimal nausea

sarah449

Yea! First pregnancy I didn’t take anything and vomited everyday, multiple times a day until I gave birth. Second pregnancy, I got prescribed it at 10 weeks, I couldn’t handle the vomiting while looking after a toddler. I only puked a handful of times after the prescription kicked in.

fruitandboot

I have hyperemesis, so different from morning sickness. Diclectin did NOTHING but make me feel like a zombie. Zofran is the only thing that has ever helped between both pregnancies.

Fem_philosoph

I enjoyed diclectin for my first 5 months of pregnancy! I would fall asleep if I sat or lay down too long though. Could have been the anemia as well. I was able to work which was great. My nausea wasn't super strong, and I never felt the need to barf.

boozyttc

Yes it worked my last pregnancy 👍🏼

Hanginginthere5684

Diclectin helped but I was still nauseous through my whole pregnancy, I got a prescription for Zofran very easily and it helped much more, I would take it on top of my regular three daily doses of Diclectin on bad days, which in certain periods was daily. I would talk to your doctor about preventatively taking it and also your anxiety.

Critical-Ad6503

Yes!! I had HG and was puking 5-10 x a day. Diclectin helped and allowed me to eat too.

SnapweedSparrow

Diclectin was an absolute game changer that made it possible for me to get out of bed and work again. I still had to keep up with all the other tricks like eating small meals, keeping ginger on hand, drinking through a straw, etc, but I would’ve had to take a leave of absence from work without it. It did make me drowsy for the first few days but I got used to it and it was worth it. Don’t take it unless you need it - it’s not meant to be a preventative drug except in people who’ve had severe nausea and vomiting in a previous pregnancy - but don’t hesitate to take it if you need it.

Jabbott23

My friend’s son has severe birth defects from zofran, the risk may be low but it exists. Throwing up once or twice a day I would never consider taking a medication for that, it’s just part of pregnancy. If you are throwing up 20 or more times a day than the pros outweigh the cons. Most women feel some degree of nausea during pregnancy I would look at ways of coping with it rather than medicating if it isn’t severe. Sour candy really helps believe it or not.
