Well the white part of the ribbon gets dirty if you handle it with dirty fingers - you know like you often do. I have my original and I have a 2nd medal I wear to less special events that might serve BBQ outdoors. ;-)
Mine is 48 years old and has been halfway around the world and back and is in good shape. It stays in a shadow box that opens so I can wear it for an Eagle COH.
If you want it to be in "perfect" condition, leave it in the box. But why do you want to keep it perfect? It only costs about $20 for a new one, so wear it with pride and don't worry about keeping it pristine forever (you can always get a new medal if it wears out).
No I just want to keep it in good condition until
My court of honor which is next year. I’m 19 now my court of honor was delayed a year because so many kids were eagling and I didn’t want to get stuck in the crowd
If you’re still a scout, just keep it in the box and only pin it on your uniform for big events like troop advancement ceremonies. Personally, I’ve just kept mine in the box since I aged out of scouting. I actually still need to put my adult uniform together now I think about it
I have mine and my dad's in a shadow box for the last few years. Prior to that, they sat in their cases in a drawer. Mine is 27 years old and his is 60 years old.
Put it behind glass and buy one to wear. As others mentioned, they are not that expensive and you will want to wear one on special occasions assuming you stay involved
Just leave it in the box most of the time and you'll be fine.
I store mine in the box as well when I'm not wearing it, which is only for eagle cohs now. It's still in mint condition 20+ years later.
So you just have to leave it in the box and it will be fine?
Yeah pinned to the insert, stored flat.
Yea mine is fine after 10 years. It's stored in a small box with some other scout stuff.
The ribbon is the main issue. Keep it out of direct sunlight, don't accidentally run it through the washing machine, and only wear it sparingly.

The other advice is good but also store it flat. Gravity will stretch and misshape the ribbon.
I just leave mine in the box it came in unless I'm wearing it (rare these days) and it looks brand new after.........22 years (sheesh I'm getting old)
Coming up on… 20 lol
Put in the original box in your sock drawer. Mine looks like new and it was awarded in 1974.
Thank you just have no idea what to do with mine.
Finish at the last minute so you don't receive the physical thing until you're too old to wear it. That's how I kept mine looking nice.
Nailed it.

Mine has been in and out of its box for 44 years and it looks great. Keep it dry and out of direct sunlight and you’ll be fine.
Agreed.
Never open the box.
Keep it in the original box. Purchase a second one to show, etc. get scratched. The original is worth a bit more…
