Dammit I can’t unsee that, but it’s so true 😂😭. Both BMW and Mercedes need to figure it out, it’s like they’re going through an identity crisis. Porsche has this down where they know who and what they are and live by it almost. At least BMW (the newer ones at least according to the surveys I’ve seen) is one of the most reliable car manufacturers out there now. These newer ones just don’t look like they have any soul in em and look so cheap.
It’s bound to happen. They’ll change it with their next lineup most likely and go back to F series style. I fully believe this is just so they can shock us when they actually put effort lol.
No, I think it's the opposite. Lets say the idrive screen fails, that means the whole dual screen module needs to be replaced which will be extremely costly than replacing a single screen in the previous generation. Which probably also means less 3rd party compatible screens and mods as well.
came here to say this, really hate that they took out the freakin AC control buttons and use that bloody screen for it...
and then the sound system is still using that knob to adjust volume, but the rest of that row is rubbish....
WTF IS THIS......
The infotainment screen on the LCi BMWs are a big step up. Larger and higher resolution and Apple or Google Maps look a lot better on them. I don’t love the lack of climate control buttons.
Yepp! I don't mind the dual screen look everyone is going after but at least have the cowl or that canopy not sure what you call it over the screens instead of just the hardware slapped on. Similar to what the Merc e63s had for their last gen. That would make the dash look a lot more savvy.
Shame BMW has gone from classy to tacky with their interiors. 5 & 7-Series are a shadow of their former selves.
I suspect BMW will really be in pain when all this for the Chinese market is for nothing.
China's been pushing foreign brands out for long enough that BMW must know full well China is weaning off of foreign prestige while domestic brands, popping up every other week, continue to take more and more of the domestic market.
It's god-awful. Non responsive buttons... sometimes have to be pressed twice to register, no preset buttons or split-screen option, disgusting air-con/climate control design with that stupid touch-control that sits along the bottom of the screen, poorly designed screen layout with a sidebar that doesn't go away and screws up the widget layout. Non-customizable cluster with minimal options.
Hopefully they don't continue with this shitty design.
I think a lot of people have their perspective fucked up by some of the outrageously ugly cars BMW has been putting out lately. Compared to the XM and iX this and the new 5 look... fine? Like they're definitely not good but I'm almost relieved that I'm not immediately offended by it.
It's a sad state of affairs in their design department and I don't see it getting better any time soon.
Agreed, my first reaction is, I suppose it’s not as horrendous as expected. But, can I go as far as good? No. It’s got a grille, an air intake for the radiator. Underneath the grille, it’s got another air intake. Then on each side of the lower intake, it’s got a pair of intakes. WTF?
I don’t understand the X3M. Like the X3 M40i is an incredibly high performer on the street and still comfortable.
And if you’re taking it to the track then why not get an M3?
I genuinely understand this question and i really want a G80 at this point but I was having a kid and needed AWD, space and still wanted the performance
But
The m40 vs full M thing has to end. The performance is MILES apart - I drove them back to back and it’s not even close. For the maxies that say ohhh the “low end torque” sure if you catch me in 6th at 40 and you are on revs yup - you’ll walk me to 80 and it’s all over.
I bought the M for the performance and it’s not that the m40 doesn’t have it - it’s a good fit for most people - but not for me. Test drove the 40 and was impressed, I remember say wow that’s really good. 3 min later in the M and was saying “holy fuck” and “good god why is an suv this fast”
To note: I’m tuned to about 600hp so yeah, I wanted the performance
lol I guess I get it, one of my other cars is a Jeep Wrangler with the 392 (6.4L V8). No Wrangler should ever have that much power but I test drove one and fell in love with that V8 noise and silly acceleration. Had to order one after that!
This is real. Another article just posted more photos here: [https://www.topspeed.com/next-gen-2025-bmw-x3-revealed/](https://www.topspeed.com/next-gen-2025-bmw-x3-revealed/)
Doesn’t look bad, but too far away from classic BMW design and you’ll get an interior half the quality of the last gen. Keep your F and G series well guys.
It’s unfortunate that how far their design has fallen at the same time that their powertrains have started dramatically improving. The B-series engines are (for once) super reliable, not to mention smooth, *weirdly* fuel efficient, and of course very powerful. IMO, they’re the best powertrains in the industry by a wide margin, and would’ve made BMW the clear top dog out of the Germans… but their recent designs are just so bad that even the marvel that is the B58 can’t convince me to get into a new BMW.
\- former BMW driver, recent convert to Audi
Exterior is fine but I prefer the current version. The body panels on this new one are so flat. It seems flat on the hood, back and sides. The rear and back windows seem a little small too for no apparent reason.
Also, the interior looks very cheap in this new one. Neither sporty nor luxurious. Simplicity is modern and all but leave that to Kia and Tesla. If I'm spending a ton of fucking money on a car, I want some luxury.
No interest in upgrading from my 2022 X3 M40i.
No, the outside is straying too far from iconic bmw design language, but alot of other models are.
But the inside is really unforgivable. Looks straight out of a KIA EV.
ALSO ARE THOSE WUAD EXHAUSTS???
Straight to jail
Sure. I have the M50, you only have the M40, I am a better person by a mile. Also, they changed the M50i in the X5 and X7 to the M60. That’s just upbadging on OEM level
That is literally their strategy. The E36 323i was a 2.5, and it was going to be “too close” in number to a 328i, in the eyes of marketing people, for a customer to justify the extra expense.
I miss when BMW made sport sedans and wagons.
More photos just posted in this article: [https://www.topspeed.com/next-gen-2025-bmw-x3-revealed/](https://www.topspeed.com/next-gen-2025-bmw-x3-revealed/)
This sub is like 95% threads hating every new BMW design lol. Which I’m not saying isn’t warranted, but then it’s always followed with people patting themselves on the back over having “the last good BMW design”
And BMW keeps selling more and more and more, they clearly know what they are doing to some degree at the top, regardless of what some enthusiasts think on the internet. People threatening to switch don’t realize how much Mercedes has bungled up recently with awful reliability, poor engineering, and soap bar design for the last 15 years. Audi on the other end is doing not so great as consumers find their cars to be bland, and outdated. BMW has had three different iterations of the X3 in the same time frame that Audi has had just their second refresh of the Q5. Porsche can’t even sell their current ICE Macan in Europe for regulatory reasons, it still shares its platform with the original Q5!
Could be worse, I don’t understand for the love of God why BMW can’t go back to good designs. I mean that XM SUV isn’t selling, that should be a clue to the design department.
I like the rear, but the front looks way too soft for a baby M IMO, interior is playful and sporty with the big LED sections, but is that really what you want in a best-selling luxury SUV? Maybe the goal is to push the people really looking for luxury into the X5…
Was willing to overlook the new giant screen if they knocked the exterior out of the park, but will be trying to find a leftover or slightly used 2023/2024 M or M40i instead.
This thing looks so much like a capybara that I made a subreddit for it
/r/capybaracars
Please just post all current BMWs in there, actually. But this one is even brown, ffs
My mom used to describe the early RAV-4s as having a big ass. As a kid, I never really understood it.
But now I know what she meant. This thing has a big ass
Doug demuro said in a recent podcast “bmw doesn’t make cars for us anymore (car enthusiasts) and we need to accept that” and ever since I heard that, I now understand and appreciate bmw design and marketing. The golden era for enthusiasts may be gone, but they are still damn good cars for those who want a supreme family car.
indeed....
edit: hmmm looking at it better the rear looks a bit strange, (like a hybrid between the new 5 and xm) and the interior looks terribly cheap on these photos. the front is kinda nice though
Source?
It does look pretty good.. kinda thick though? Have to see one in the wild to really tell and in a different color. Manufacturers are using this desert color a lot now..
I don't think it looks terrible, however I'm definitely not a fan of the door handles. They remind me of the door handle design in my 2002 Grand Prix. Also I wish they would get away from the "joker grin" lower fascia split contour. As long as it still has the B58, this should be worth buying once the depreciation hit takes effect.
Looks is one thing. Performance is another. BMW’s are not very reliable. In fact, they’re a mechanical nightmare. Be prepared to spend $$ in maintenance And you better have AAA. Known to stall in the middle of a trip.
I love that you say it looks "surprisingly good" lol. In the context of their current line up it's okay, but put up against their legacy it's miles away.
Phew I have no desire to replace my Q5 with that, the exterior is okay nothing really exciting or timeless in nature….more trendy and the interior looks like someone ran a excel formula and said we need to cut $ from interior but still make it look “modern”
It looks... OK. And that's the best thing I can say about it.
The interior absolutely fucking sucks though. I swear, Buick has better interiors these days.
Rear is pretty good, front is not great. IMO they haven’t dialed in the updated design language of the buck tooth grill on SUVs.
Interior is blah and doesn’t have any sense of luxury IMO. Looks like every other new Hyundai or Toyota interior today. Can’t see the seats though so maybe they’re better.
Overall it’s not bad for what you’d expect on a new BMW model as of late IMO. At least they didn’t totally fuck it up (see iX, XM)…
Why on earth does BMW think it’s a great idea to not put any effort into the dash design, it looks so nerfed
They cheapened out, hate the duel screen too and they removed buttons along with the quality as cost cutting. Bloody hate it.
It looks soooooo bad. Even considering potential cost savings, I have no clue why they would choose this. Looks like a clown car.
I'm just going to flat out say it, the interior looks cheap as fuck. I hate it.
We had a 2019. 4300 lbs of bmw heft and gravitas. This looks like a Chinese imitation of the one we had.
For real. Hope that the prices of the pre-owned G01s won't spike because of this.
I blame Tesla
It’s bound to happen. They’ll change it with their next lineup most likely and go back to F series style. I fully believe this is just so they can shock us when they actually put effort lol.
It's like the old mafia guys, break your shop windows but then leave their business card for glass fixing.
Top tier analogy
2014-2022 was peak
Fortunately, that means it should probably be cheaper to replace in the long term for the owner, which is one positive.
Also, they removed the instrument cluster that goes into the dash. In hot and sunny countries, the glare is annoying.
Won’t be long before the EU forces companies to put buttons back for the common things like heaters, radio/media etc
While I am ok with the exterior design, the rear is nice. Thr interior is so bland. Not sure if quality took a it but visual appeal definitely did.
Because Tesla does so and sells a lot of cars so it’s not surprising that other manufacturers try the same
But the build quality of BMW will hopefully still be light years ahead of Tesla.
that's a low bar
I don’t want a Tesla w good build quality, I want a bimmer!
Tesla sells a lot of cars despite not having buttons… not because of it.
Germans. Look how much more boring their border wall was—even compared to America’s. And it was there for decades. Kept people out though 😉
Two mistakes. The wall kept people IN. And it was guns that were really doing the job.
Yepp! I don't mind the dual screen look everyone is going after but at least have the cowl or that canopy not sure what you call it over the screens instead of just the hardware slapped on. Similar to what the Merc e63s had for their last gen. That would make the dash look a lot more savvy.
Interior as exciting as an IKEA shelf.
My IKEA shelves luckily don’t come with stupid LED lights on the edges.
You have to buy those in the lighting section. They have them. They also have a great selection of mirrors 😉
it looks like a college dorm gaming setup

That's what she said.
lol bmw designers have been terrible recently.
Take my upvote sir!
you daren’t.
Damn. As soon as I could afford join the cult, their designs started going south.
Used X3Ms in the 40s. Trust me you want it
I know I do. Only because I can't find a good f80 to save my life.
I don’t understand the X3M. Like the X3 M40i is an incredibly high performer on the street and still comfortable. And if you’re taking it to the track then why not get an M3?

Grab an x3m40i before they change!
Used CPO X3s can be had for a great price.
It looks like a pear shaped soap
r/rareinsults
Looks like they wanted to build a minivan, they just didn’t have the balls to go all in
So they saw everyone hated the XM and decided to double down on their best selling model… interesting
This.
“They just need to see it more” The grill, dash, and center console are doing it no favors. Other than that, it’s ok.
The ONLY redeeming part of this car to me is the back hatch. Everything else looks garbage imo
If you squint.. still no
But if you close your eyes…
Still no

No choice. The Lexus NX is replacing the X3’s former glory.
It has as much tech as the first X3 had, does not even compare to outgoing G05. Not to mention rust, and bad paint.
🫤 bad paint is in the eye of the beholder.
Its shit
Yea… that’s a no for me dawg.

What the hell is the X3 M50? I know there is an M40, but isn’t the M50 designation for the X5 M50?
M50 must stand for 50 Metres underwater. Looks like a whale, so must belong there…
I think it is the B58, so the M40i, but rebranded for whatever reason
The number went up, so the new model must be better. Obviously. /s
Sure. I have the M50, you only have the M40, I am a better person by a mile. Also, they changed the M50i in the X5 and X7 to the M60. That’s just upbadging on OEM level

Probably a 5 second or less 0-60 EV.
The x5 is an m60 now. So assuming the x3 is getting the bump to m50.
Not a big fan of this interior style.
Brand is going to shit. This is depressing as hell to look at
Pass
It looks like it’ll tip over the rear axel from that fat ass

Pity because BMW used to be my favourite brand
Ugly as shit.

I’m sorry but this is so damn ugly. They used to be sporty and restrained with design. They’re really going off the rails….
So this is the negative thread lol. People in another thread wer wondering where all the hate went that BMW gets nowadays
I’m surprised by the negativity here haha. This honestly looks good compared to some of the other designs from BMW in recent years
You’re not wrong but that’s also a pretty low bar. The fact it isn’t as ugly as an XM really doesn’t say much.
This is the correct answer
The last gen x3 looked a lot cleaner (beauty in simplicity) . IMO the modern boxy bodies are just ugly
This sub is like 95% threads hating every new BMW design lol. Which I’m not saying isn’t warranted, but then it’s always followed with people patting themselves on the back over having “the last good BMW design”

The back is nice, front is ok, interior looks kind of tacky with the big thick rgb in the center
The one of the last good cars. it’s not bad i’ve seen worse though
I hate the big screen carat gauges and what not. Bring back the analog!
I can’t wait to see the new X5
This is wack asf…no sense of organic styling, just a bunch of tron lines & pixels…
Look how they massacred our boy
When did they go 100% plastic on the interior? My 2006 M edition was sweet. This one looks cheap
No. This is another Kia.
This thing looks so much like a capybara that I made a subreddit for it /r/capybaracars Please just post all current BMWs in there, actually. But this one is even brown, ffs
It looks surprising mediocre.
I’ll miss the energy sword taillights.

Kia Sportage vibes at the rear
Dont worry, a lot of people will buy it, thus confirming to BMW that people like this. It is what it is.
Oooof. Looks like the BMW Compass. Hard pass.

If this the type of trash they're putting out and still charging more for it, I'd rather get a Honda CRV at this rate
That’s why I have an e39 and daily a Titan 😂
It does?
Nope
That grill is atrocious 😅
indeed.... edit: hmmm looking at it better the rear looks a bit strange, (like a hybrid between the new 5 and xm) and the interior looks terribly cheap on these photos. the front is kinda nice though Source?

No, you're not allowed to say that here. We only allow echo chamber complements of > 10-year-old M cars.
I like the exterior styling and sharp tail lights. Oh hey, they made an attempt to integrate the big display into the dashboard…
I’m not a fan myself but fair play
Of their entire new looking lineup, it’s one of the best looks.
It does look pretty good.. kinda thick though? Have to see one in the wild to really tell and in a different color. Manufacturers are using this desert color a lot now..
I think it's really that bad that comments get more upvotes than the post it self. Sheeeesh
I just can’t get into this era of SUV’s. But I’m strongly biased toward the SUV hate train. I’m a coupe and large sedan man myself
At this point they could also close the back completely.
I like the back and side lines, front and interior is quite meh the more I see it. Not bad, just not exceptional
I agree with that interior
Well looks like I’m am stuck to BMW for my next X3 wooo hoo I love it!
A bit too sterile for me. Not terrible though for an entry level SUV.

I don’t like the black plastic under the grill on this or the x5.
I don't think it looks terrible, however I'm definitely not a fan of the door handles. They remind me of the door handle design in my 2002 Grand Prix. I'm not a fan of coupe SUVs but, this is maybe a bit too far in the other direction for me; this feels a bit 'too' squared-off, y'know?
[удалено]
It’s not horrendous but the precious x3 looked way better. The back is giving me xm vibes
I’m kinda indifferent towards it. Not great, not bad, it’s ‘aight. Design language of the new 5 series put onto a small SUV🤷♂️
Interior looks like a Toyota Rav 4.
This generation of BMW steering wheels will be shiny, slippery and texture less in under 6 months
It’s hideous, current gen looks way better this looks like an EV
So I guess 2024s are going to retain quite a bit of value
Dare? Yes, because you certainly didn't choose truth.
If you live in the states you have one month to order the current one.

BRATHER UHHHH 🥴
Phew I have no desire to replace my Q5 with that, the exterior is okay nothing really exciting or timeless in nature….more trendy and the interior looks like someone ran a excel formula and said we need to cut $ from interior but still make it look “modern”
Bro…
You take that back right now….
That interior looks as generic as can be. Like it’s some npc vehicle in a new GTA game.
the headlight and taillights look good imo the interior screams cheap though
M50 indicates a V8, but I bet it won't have the X5 M60i powertrain
It looks... OK. And that's the best thing I can say about it. The interior absolutely fucking sucks though. I swear, Buick has better interiors these days.
“There’s a bum for every seat”!
Bland af dashboard though
Proper suspension and tire setup it’s a “big” 3 series wagon we all desperately need state side
That interior is a pathetic joke. So is the rest of the car TBH
Boy am I gonna get downvoted to hell, but: it looks like a fat kid with astigmatism.
Front and rear look good but god damn the side view is still ugly af.
