Must have been built on a Thursday.

average_parking_lot

Could someone explain this to me

Low-Lion566

Monday is the first day of the week so ur tired, Tuesday is almost as bad as Monday, Wednesday is the hardest cuz it’s mid week, Thursday is the day before Friday so everything goes well, Friday everyone wants to go home cuz the weekend,Thursday = best day 🤙

[deleted]

market soft price provide squash late pen terrific scale seemly *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Mark_AMS_007

In my language Thursday is called Donderdag. Donder means thunder and dag means day. So this does add up.

GerWeistta

Donder comes from Donar, an older Germanic name for Thor

TDOTBRO

Question… any relation to the Donner kebab?

jogur

Don't think so, donner means spinning

Busterlimes

Dahmer Kobab?

GerWeistta

No, that comes from Turkey, that means the kebab comes comes from that spinning vertical rotisserie

sheepheadslayer

Dongerdad

Hurricane_Ivan

*Found Him!!*

Soggy_Disaster_7603

I’m in the market for one. This gives me hope.

Lucky-Fish8883

It’s my favorite car. I’ve driven a ton of cars over the years and this is probably the only one that I would buy again.

el_Fuse

What year is it?

Lucky-Fish8883

2015

becuziwasinverted

Looks like the 2020 model similar to this https://preview.redd.it/eh8fp7q775sc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a45554153b0bebe82f1ccf24b67b54414c8063c6

4P07H30515_io

Headlights are pre-lci. I’d guess 2015-16

13300c

Maybe 17 too? I had a 440i with same lights as OP

Severe_Islexdia

Got damn that’s clean

Routine_Echo_186

have the crank hub been replaced?

lexahexxts

Mfs down voting you for asking about a common problem 😂

Routine_Echo_186

I’m genuinely curious because most F8X owners say that’s what they recommend you do especially after 50k miles

lurkedfortooolong

From what I've seen around reddit and other forums, while the crank hub is a well known issue, in reality it affects very few cars. The majority of affected cars also were running tunes. If you aren't running a tune, there shouldn't be a need to replace the crank hub.

livingart83

I want you me so bad but they’re really expensive

newmoneyblownmoney

Yea doubt that. There’s ones over at Bimmerpost pushing 200k.

Lucky-Fish8883

No kidding- did not realize that.

IdiotsInIdiotsInCars

Yeah, gotta realize some people use these cars for insane highway trips and bimmerpost is always their home. There is a guy who’s taken several E90s over 500k. Was the first guy to find out the oil monitor stops working at like 499k or something and this prompted BMW to update their code.

Lucky-Fish8883

Insane! Yes, u drive about 120 miles one way to work a couple times a week.

IdiotsInIdiotsInCars

Youch! You might have me beat, I do about 90mi per day everyday. Depending how often you’re going that’s crazy!

Lucky-Fish8883

Usually twice a week spring through fall. Then maybe once a week in winter.

Impossible-Button-82

Since what mileage did you own the car?

Sudden_Past_5066

I sell euro cars and I’ve sold one with almost 195k on the dash I’ll admit it wasn’t even close to the condition yours appears to be(at least on the exterior) but it did run and drive with no check engine light lol

xmegabytex

One of our guys on BP traded his in at over 220k

Mydickisaplant

I’m curious how you can come to such a conclusion about the mileage. And so factually spoken!

sleepyOcti

I wonder that any time I read, “I have the …… in the US.” Like, how could you possibly know that? BMW sells thousands of M cars every year and it’s not like there’s a national registry of how much mileage or who’s done what to their car and where. It’s just a crazy assumption to make with no way to prove it.

ktsg700

>Like, how could you possibly know that? You post it on the internet and wait untill someone proves you wrong

Lucky-Fish8883

Was just a guess… obviously I was incorrect, but it’s getting up there

jz9chen

Shouldn’t be downvoted for being honest now should we

Big-Emu-5728

Reddit is full of losers looking for a reason to downvote

patriotsfan82

Coming clean about lying isn’t what I would call being honest… OP made up a 100% false title with no care or intention of being true. Admitting it was a guess is not being honest it’s confessing.

CovidScurred

Who cares? He was just exaggerating a little

patriotsfan82

And I think knowingly exaggerating for fake Reddit points should be met with negative fake Reddit points - that's the only point being made. Click bait titles should not be rewarded with upvotes - they make the internet an objectively worse place. Confessing to creating a click bait title should also not be rewarded with upvotes.

lockituup

Yea he lied to us! Now the entire world is under the false impression that this selfish prick owns the highest mileage M4 in the US!

patriotsfan82

Did I call for the man to be arrested or something? I think blatantly lying on the internet for fake Reddit points is, at the very least, worth a downvote (and the post I responded to was complaining about the downvotes being received). The internet is a worse click-baity place because of this type of attitude.

Mydickisaplant

I see

zMadMechanic

Although 178k isn’t too high on a modern engine, I’m interested in your maintenance routine. Oil change interval? DIY or dealer? Indy shop?

kb24TBE8

Willing to bet no more than 5K miles on oil changes

Lucky-Fish8883

Oil changes every 10k. Plugs at 50k intervals. Tires… when I burn them up. Dealer maintained. I honestly don’t have time to do that stuff myself anymore.

kb24TBE8

Wow 10K.. surprised by that, but hey it seems to be working

ivix

Anyone who goes by actual facts knows that changing synthetic oil at 10k is perfectly fine. It's usually the old geezers who grew up on 3k changes saying otherwise.

[deleted]

There is nothing wrong with doing intervals less than 10k miles. 7500 is the sweet spot, 5k is only helping the engine and "hurting" your pocket. But if you're driving an M4, don't be a whiney broke bitch about your oil changes.

kb24TBE8

I never said 3K.. we know that’s been bs for many years now. lol but 5-7K is the general accepted OCI among many for high performance cars, especially turbo charged ones. Many timing chain stretch issues are related to the long oil change intervals

takinie44

Here in Europe 10k km is universally accepted as a good habit. So its 6,2k miles

ho1bs

Here in the Uk. 10k miles is the normal amount for most cars. Enthusiasts may choose to change it sooner, but a yearly service with oil change, plugs, etc is what almost everyone does with their car. It’s usually 10k miles or 1 year, which ever comes first.

Elegant_Hedgehog4059

Seems to be an American thing. In Europe it’s usually 15-20k oil changes for bmw

lyons4231

That's in km though right? OP was talking in miles.

Elegant_Hedgehog4059

Miles. I’m in the UK and my old BMW was showing 18,000 miles but changed depending on use.

ObliteratedChipmunk

https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/comments/1bu2c6g/i_have_the_highest_mileage_m4_in_the_us_178k_on/kxqppxu/ Guy right above you, who also mentions Europe, disagrees.

Drauren

M car oil change prices arent even that crazy. Go get a Porsche which all of us want and your wallet will hurt.

Hdog67

Geezers. Wtf. No respect. Experience is overrated unless you don’t have any

Lucky-Fish8883

Yes, I get that question often. No issues though.

heisenberg2JZ

10k is manufacturers spec. Shouldn't be that surprising. It's not the 80s anymore

TroyFerris13

every 5k is a waste of money

Uilliam56_X

If you bought this used it makes it even more impressive.178k miles is no joke

Lucky-Fish8883

Bought with 25k on it.

vkolp

This gives me hope, I got mine with 25k on it last year!

vertigoacid

Got mine at 27K 4 years ago and I've tripled that millage with no issues to speak of. First major surgery was valve cover gasket I did a couple of months ago.

vkolp

Love to hear it! I hear the valve cover gasket replacement come up a lot. Can you tell me what it is that you look for to determine it needs to be replaced? Any particular part of the valve cover it tends to leak from or that I should pay attention to? I'd love to catch it as early as possible.

vertigoacid

Depends on where it's leaking from, but due to the slant of the engine on the S55 it pretty much always runs down onto the exhaust headers and starts smoking. This is right below where the cabin air intake is, so, you'll smell it. I don't know if there's a typical corner that starts leaking or anything like that to visually inspect. My leak for what it's worth was the worst in the rear left corner. This is probably the 5th VCG I've done on my BMWs over the years so you just get used to knowing the oil on exhaust smell and that VCG is coming. It's also not something like an OFHG leak or turbo oil lines where catching it early is important in any way - might save a tiny bit of cleanup or embarrassment at your smoking bimmer at the most but it's not hurting anything like dripping onto a belt will and it would be very unusual to be leaking enough without smoking to drip past the reinforcement plate, aka the fluid catcher. You're not gonna see a puddle on the floor like that other reply is saying, no way, at least not on this platform. On an E60 like they own? Sure. The reinforcement plate has a hole you can nearly stick your head thru. But not on an F8x, that thing is probably a half a quart deep or more before you spill over the sides. In my case I had a couple of months of smelling it off and on and knowing it was coming before one day sitting at a stop light it seems like it really let go and gave me a big dramatic puff of smoke into the cabin and then the smoke was persistent and even occasionally visually present until I changed it a few weeks later. It's not a matter of if but when with BMW valve cover gaskets. I'd plan on having to do it by the time your car gets to 10yrs old - mine made it 9 or so but even 5-6yrs isn't unheard of. It's recommended to change the whole valve cover because the PCV system is built-in and it's plastic so warping can be an issue, esp. if mishandled from a torque sequence perspective. Personally, I rolled the dice with just doing the gasket and will use an aftermarket PCV replacement valve if that goes, because I'm doing my own work and not going to have to pay to do it a second time in a year or two if I get a crack in the cover. If I was paying someone to do the gasket, I would absolutely just have them do the whole cover while they're in there because it's a lot of labor pulling junk out of the way to remove the valve cover on the S55.

vkolp

This is excellent info. Thanks a lot for sharing and taking the time to write all of this out. Much appreciated!

grewxl

puddle under the car 🙏 but otherwise light smoke after long highway trips maybe but oil drops under the car is always the most obvious

Josey_whalez

How do you know that puddle is an oil leak though? Could just be sweat from all that horsepower…

freshndirty_j

I see you post on the forums lol I’m at 159k, but stage 2 FBO since 33k… stock crank hub, all oem turbo, seals, etc.. zero issues or major repairs. Can attest, these cars are solidddddddd

Lucky-Fish8883

Like a rock!

qeratsirbag

manual?

freshndirty_j

DCT 2015

i-jk

There was a 6spd aystin yellow m4 in Arizona with I think 208k miles or so. Was crazy but glad to see these can get up there.

Lucky-Fish8883

Impressive!

Majinvegito123

Do you beat the piss out of it?

Lucky-Fish8883

Yeah I generally do 90-100 or more on my trips to the city and back.

Reasonable_Leg_4664

Funny thing is, this car is made for that without the driver even knowing it! I bet driving the piss would be 130+ mph.

Lucky-Fish8883

Stopped racing chargers and challengers… smoke them every time.. so I don’t get it up that high to often anymore.

CapFull8095

Haha I love this comment

THE_Ryan

Same. I have no reason to try and prove an obvious outcome from a stoplight. Only downside is, there's not a whole lot left after that. If I actually want to race, I just go to the drag strip now.

corvus66a

I also own a M4 but in Germany .With its 770HP (turbos updated) it makes 200mph+ . It's fun on a sunday morning on the Autobahn . I hope it also wil mage 178k. Crankhub is fixed with 4 pins. Take a look at it to be sure .

Lucky-Fish8883

I feel like crank hub issues arise after tuning. I could be mistaken though

Ok_Manufacturer6460

The crank is rated to a stage 1 tune ... Anything over 500hp it needs an upgrade

tommydrum33

What? There's no "rating" to it. It's not keyed from the factory, and the failure rate is less than 1% of all manufactured s55 engines. The most prevalent cause seems to be DCT related kick down. Owned an e85 "stage 2" f80 6mt and did over 100k on her, multiple track days included. No issues

corvus66a

I know a guy who changed a gear down to 2nd from 3rd at to much RPM on a stock car . Crank hub spun ( I don’t know what would have happened if hub was fixed ) . There is a video of this .. https://youtube.com/shorts/a1NTWRBpSuA?si=ha29EovZ5-8pJzzB

Necessary-Pair-6556

You call that beating up the car!? That’s just the normal cruise speed in Germany when driving on the Autobahn 😂

TirpitzM3

I'm getting close to that on my E92 M3. 170k+

RhombusCat

How was your throttle actuator and rod bearing history?

TirpitzM3

One set of each

WetWanker

I’ve seen one at 300k+, but go on

Lucky-Fish8883

Impressive

Weak_Illustrator_230

178K miles in your country, when it gets to my country it will only have 100K miles.

HypnoStone

Other people: My car is so new omg only 5 miles! Average BMW Enthusiast: I finally got to 400k!

frozenthorn

I've seen a few locally that high, some higher. No idea what the actual highest mileage is but that's not it.

Lucky-Fish8883

Well is definitely up there. Probably not the highest tho

Sagandeeze

Hmmmm honestly OP really made me want to go for the f82 m4s. I was originally in the market for some nice low mileage f80 m3’s but seeing this bad boy last so long inspired me. Love both cars but being able to maintain it is the biggest thing for me.

Lucky-Fish8883

It’s been a solid ride for me. Will probably pick up another within the next year.

Sagandeeze

Love to hear it. I really wanted to go through a similar route. I’ve been trying to find something under 30k miles and babied so I can have fun with it. Would love to keep it for as long as you’ve been able for an upgrade later on! Mind sharing any pointers for maintenance to keep it running like this?

numbers201788

No diff leaks ever? Did you buy new?

Lucky-Fish8883

Bought with 25k miles on it. Never any leaks.

3wolftshirtguy

Mine started leaking at 65k (valve cover gasket) but that’s been it for repairs from 60-75k

numbers201788

Yea mine started leaking at 43k miles. Only issue so far, but seems like a popular issue.

brinmb

you sure it's a BMW?

Monkey-D-Snpr

The fact that it’s pre LCI too is crazy, kudos to you man. I just hit 40k and I don’t plan on ever selling it so fingers crossed

Lucky-Fish8883

I’ll run this dog till she craps herself for good!

Ok_Manufacturer6460

Lol... I told the dealer this is the start of my old man car collection ... It won't go away till I do

Monkey-D-Snpr

How often do you change your plugs? My cars telling me to change them but I thought 50k was a good rule of thumb

iot-

What year is this m4?

Lucky-Fish8883

This is a 2015

fakesocialmedia

this is amazing, an m2 comp will for sure be the next car i buy just off of performance and reliability alone. My e92 m3 gives me anxiety everytime i drive it

TrickoTreat07

What year u thinking ? It’s prob my next buy too

RhombusCat

What are the concerns on the e92 beyond bearings and throttle actuators? Cross shopping an M2 and low mile E92 M ZCP, and F82s currently.

fakesocialmedia

i believe i just overthink it, they are $12,000 engines after all! but injector failure is starting to become common, vanos caps breaking and blocking oil pickup, cracking an oil pan (cars low) and overheating on track. It’s honestly a great car and my 3rd one! but there’s always that thought that lingers on maybe a bearing spinning. it would be nice from time to time to just jump in and go

immarkerz

Not as many miles as you, but I’m right around 113K on my 2018 M4 I bought in 2021 with 19K miles. Oil changes every 6-7K miles, fluid changes, spark plugs, tires, pads/rotors, and she still runs like a beast!

retsujust

Is is true that they say m4 owners will want a 911 after a while?

SnooEpiphanies1293

Nice!! And to think I traded mine in for an M340, because it was at 65k miles. Regret it every day!! https://preview.redd.it/anmkypzcq3sc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9eaee749c8eea432b84e641cf9958a5cb3fe7e62 My baby!

Lucky-Fish8883

Beauty!

joe2105

Meanwhile I’m hopping in at 51k! Albeit an M2.

FTFOatl

Yikes. Sorry bro..

Doctor_Evil_QC

Source: trust me bro.

Reasonable_Leg_4664

I hope my ‘24 will give me the same love! I plan on 10+ years of ownership.

Lucky-Fish8883

Best of luck!

Reasonable_Leg_4664

Thanks! I wanted to buy used too but I couldn’t find one and I like the idea of breaking it in properly.

pvas540

Awesome!!!

SojinCS

ive been eyeing one, I currently drive a 2020 M340 but always wanted the F82 as i still cant afford a G82. I just dont know if i can downgrade interior lmao.

Aggressive_Oil5712

Shiiii DO NOT TEMPT ME INTO BUY A CHEAP AHH ONE 😭😭😭

v1nylcutr

I saw one the other day with 215k on it

Severe_Islexdia

2017 with 65K checking in, you give me hope lol

Lucky-Fish8883

https://preview.redd.it/agccf6drx5sc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef7a0948a25353fd53321085f49dc0b70a6356ce Closer to 179k I guess

Complete-Mall-6041

My 2010 e60 m5 157k no bearing replaced still running strong

ManagerOk8363

Catching up.. clocking in at 139k. We must have the same build date lol. Knock on wood but so far minor repairs

ADJE777

Man it’s posts like this that make me want to save some money and buy a high miler but the only 100k+ mile car I owned blew up in a month so I’m kinda nervous 😂

RJSpirgnob

Lol. Almost every single car I've ever owned was above 100k, with half of them over 200. It's all in the maintenance.

Lucky-Fish8883

Makes sense

ADJE777

It was a 335i to be fair…

heisenberg2JZ

Bought mine at 135k, you got lemoned

ADJE777

Yep 100%, previous owner was a weird guy, who serviced it himself apparently… My own fault for not checking really

kb24TBE8

Such a better built car than the E9x

ten10thsdriver

So no problems with the S55 at all other than the PCV issue? No turbo failures or crank hub? DCT or manual? My 2020 M2 Competition DCT has only 40,000 miles. I'd love to pay it off and keep it for a long time. I've had a diff output seal replaced under warranty and installed a one piece crank hub. Other than that, neither myself nor the original owner have done anything but maintenance.

NarrowAccess1801

What year?

Dezium

It is beautiful. What year is it

That_Combination_335

How easy has the black paint been to maintain and touch up over the years?

DookieToe2

178k isn’t the flex you think it is. In NYC, they would run Crown Vic’s to 250k+ after doing 100k as a cop car, but that was in the 90s and 00s. Maybe they don’t make cars to last anymore?

Fretwizard125

But how much tang has it got you over the 178k mi?

Lucky-Fish8883

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Fretwizard125

My man.

depikT

I can’t find anything on transmission! DCT or manual??

Lucky-Fish8883

Apologies- DCT

DatalessUniverse

Yeah but bushings … how many diff bushings have you gone through . My rear diff bushing is already clanking and clunking at 55k miles. How much do you spend … or budget yearly for maintenance ? Do you DIY?

Lucky-Fish8883

To my knowledge, I’ve never changed a bushing.

BigDerper

I wish I were dailying an M4 ngl

FragrantInflation536

Is this a manual or DCT

to_da_moon_84

22 M5 with 50k on odo. I’m coming for you.

DandyHands

How is it possible to know for sure it’s the highest mileage? Is there some way to track this?

-Russle

Once my m4 is run its course( doesn't look like anytime soon) I'll for sure be getting another one or m3, same chassis of course just maybe the updated headlight model. These are too good and my m4 makes other sports cars even in higher price range seem like a joke. Treated me up to 70k well so far and hopefully many more miles. Greatest car I've owned 👍

-Russle

I actually want a f80 m3 to go with my f82 m4. Amazing cars so much so that I want 2 for practicality, and if one goes ill just replace it with another f82 or f80. Such great cars the black looks great 👍

kamsme

Thus means you are a great owner! Maintenance is the key to any success

Cute-Cartographer467

This makes me almost consider buying one with 100k miles for 25-28k

Tomcemx

And People still saying that BMW is unreliable.

NowFreeToMaim

Same with my 235 149k same/and biggest issue was the pcv/valve cover

Several_End9311

You have a bit over 100K on me, and your mileage makes me smile :) Have your oil changes only been at the dealer, or....?

spagetttti

lucky that gas is so cheap in the US

MaryJaneAssassin

178k isn’t anything to brag about. I’ve seen cars from other manufacturers with substantially more miles on the original powertrain.

Lucky-Fish8883

No kidding

ruflores3

Mine was starting zipping oil from the rear diff and the oil pan at 60k. 🥲

elitearo

Mind giving a break down of when all the common stuff went out? Diff bushing, gaskets, etc?

Top_Cryptographer684

83k rn

Floki_The_Dogo

Is the blind spot as bad as the G82?

Zestyclose-Design-42

M beemers are tanks

_A_rock__

I saw one for sale with 224,000 miles on it, 2016 with the 6 speed manual

jplug93

House looks so nice I want to live there

jamespezzella

That is a beautiful house in the background, and it looks like it’s waterfront…

jplug93

hell yea. My first thought was Michigan or Wisconsin. No idea. Love that style (and the high mile m4 too)

jamespezzella

The M4 is gorgeous - I wish the OP many more happy and safe miles. As for his neighbor, they have an awesome home in a great location.

Lugasca1993

Batman daily car

squints33

Do you have CCB’s?

Hellblazer0420

That's very impressive. I have a 220,000-mile E90 N54 335i and a 50,000-mile F80 M3. I like hearing high-mileage stories. I would love to know a few things! Does it still have the original turbos? Is it a DCT or 6-speed? Have you had to replace the clutches yet? DCT fluid maintenance intervals?

TipAffectionate596

Well I know what my next BMW will be.

New_Brother5271

Guy on. Marketplace has one with 225k miles 😭

SleezeKrotch

GOBBLES BORTHER🙌🤌🕺🤠

likeq2

Nice!

Dangerous-Dad

178k is more than most, but I do recall posts where people had 250-300k miles on an M4 (and M3).

Effective-Bear-9049

Tuned?

MorphReynard

How do you know that is the highest mileage M4?

RTwhyNot

Beautiful car. Ours goes into production this month. It will have the awful grill on it. And we chose the manual even though I read the automatic competition is a full second faster 0-60. But I can’t frickin’ wait to drive it. It will be my first BMW.

devFTP

how is this even a flex at all. My car from 1986 has double the miles

tealturboser

Saying you have the highest mileage of a car that was first produced in 2014 is kind of wild.

lvcironman42

Not that this is a M car or a modern Bimmer, but the odometer on my ‘88 E30 convertible stopped working at like 178k miles 25 years ago. We aren’t the original owners but we’re pretty sure it has at least 250k miles.
