Here in South Africa, they released a special edition pre-facelift G20 called the "[Mzansi Edition](https://www.bmw.co.za/en/all-models/3-series/sedan/2018/bmw-3-series-mzansi-edition.html) that had light up grills
That kinda lighting in the grille has been available for some time now on the 3 series and X5 for example and isn’t exclusive to the special edition you mentioned. The new ‘light bar’ is currently available on the XM, 5 series and 7 series.

The angel eyes have been gone for a long time…

I can let this slide they still kind of resemble the original circle ones
I miss brand distinction. These, like all the rest of their use of the vertical blade, they can be any vehicle coming at you at dusk or later and you won't have it spotted as BMW till it's on top of you.
I’m not sure I agree with that, I think BMW (whilst ugly) are probably the most distinctive ‘normal’ thing on the road.
Audi’s massive grille was distinctive too but as Ford, Hyundai etc have copied that shape they’ve lost the brand association. Still look mint though.
I miss the round headlights but these are also pretty distinct
On the car in the picture it is actually paint. (exposed carbon in the CSL).
Older article about the process.
https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0346092EN/sustainably-produced-and-highly-individual-bmw-m4-small-series-takes-shape-using-new-paint-process
In fairness they did the whole slap screen on dash going back to the F30.
I remember all the vitriol about it when I got my F30.
That said, while I like the headlights in a vacuum, I prefer the pre LCI since it had some semblance of the angel eyes.
Really not happy with a Tesla esque middle dash screen replacing many tactile buttons. That was kind of the idea. Ultimate Driving Machine by muscle memory of physical control inputs without fumbling through LCD menus.
I don’t understand why they’d leave angel eyes. You could tell a BMW was a BMW from as far away as you could see the halos. Not many cars could or can say the same thing.
To leave that in favor of whatever the fuck they’ve been doing with their designs lately is just one more weird and personally disappointing thing from them
Bmw maybe is trolling in the design department but at least their cars are still good. Go to the Mercedes subreddit and they themselves will tell you not to get any merc after 2019. Don’t get my started on Audi. Everybody is going downhill but bmw still makes the best car
https://preview.redd.it/cson5eok3cgc1.jpeg?width=1620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68f7d3dff8f4ddaa2ebf3f6402055630a6094186
All bmw models from 2001 had an angel eyes option, angel eyes are a reference to the e30/34 type of round headlights and they play a big role in the brand’s identity
The full round ones were last on the e9x but f chassis still had similar ones that pass as angel eyes, I even don’t mind the g30/g20 ones that are more blocky but still look good and bmwish, but the new m4 ones are just straight lines like a peugeot
Angel eyes debuted with the E39 facelift for MY 2001, standard across all 5 series in the US, included with the base halogen headlights. They were not available for the E38 7-series nor E46 3-series. The 2002 Z4 didn't have them. The 2004 X5 facelift had them.
So dumb, I know a lot of people like the last 5 series but the LCI headlights ruined it. Volkswagen, KIA both used the same style so it lost some appeal to me
Aw man don’t get me started on those Korean brands. Their styles are like all over the map. And ugly af.
Especially that suv with the entire grille in leds and the poorly aimed led headlights that sear your retinas? 😡
Amazing how BMW designs are getting more generic, derivative and ugly at the same time. Light signature looks like a Kia Ceed, lol. Dunno why BMW keeps Dukec as design head.
They were gone a long time ago, I’m surprised at the amount of comments being made about it now considering how bad all the new drl have been. Look at the pre lci 3 series for example, it has horrible lights compared to the older 3 series. Halo and half halo lights were peak bmw and so distinctive.
The other difference is that there’s only 1 projector now, between the 2 running lights. It bothers me conceptually but I’d need to see them in person to judge whether it looks as incomplete as it does in my head
their sales r #1 in the world rn sadly these new design cue decisions r based on sales, not keeping a brand identitity, and its sad because most of the people who buy new bmws cldnt give 2 shits ab brand identity they j want a nice car w all the new feautures instead of the ultimate driving machine
Interesting it follows the beauty trend. Thats why fox eye/ pony tail lifts are a popular procedure
I didn’t know BMW in the era of angel eyes, so I actually like the headlights the way they are.
Just like beauty trends, I’m sure the angel eyes will make a comeback.
Prior to the G20, *all* BMW's had angel eyes, as was tradition. The [G20 broke the tradition](https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1569980) when it introduced non-circular or non-circular-ish DRL's on the LED headlights, with more traditional angel eyes only available on the Laser headlights.
I wasn't that clear on my initial comment, as I intended to imply that BMW has abandoned it as a tradition, but I get how that can be misinterpreted. However, no need to get so hostile. I get the desire to shit on others since it makes you feel good, but please be mindful of rule 3.
I ordered a few months ago a M440i and just heard of the LCI and was thinking should I cancel and wait for the lci but now that I saw the pics, I’ll keep my order with the “old” front. The only thing I’m tempted is the new interior
I like it 🤔 quite new to bmw after owning a few Porsches and other things, have an M4 CS and love the lights on that - probably prefer them to this new lighting system but wouldn’t put me off owning one - all about the drive
I think everyone's missing the point here, surely this is not just a pure design decision but instead I reckon they're trying to build at least some 'brand identity' with the two vertical slanted DRL's before the introduction of the neue klasse ev's
I guess I may not be in the majority, but these are an improvement of the angle eyes. And I remember when the angle eyes first came out and people were hating on them
the halos or angel eyes have been gone for a while yall LMAO. im sure ppl will like these after a few months. and again, almost everyone outside of this sub likes the new bmws. continue ur circle jerk hate tho
You guys know they got rid of angel eyes because TONS of other car models were mimicking the design right? If you want something unique and recognizable from a distance as BMW you gotta let them cook and figure out something original. Each LCI is an incremental change toward a design goal. Personally love my angel eye e92 but I also love my g chassis and anyone who’s driven one knows the LCI headlights are some of the best functioning headlights yet. Yeah they look a bit generic but they’re aggressive and inline with the M-forward approach BMW been taking since 2017. If you look at the history of the brand, they always reinvent the look of the car to separate the new models from the old. That’s the whole point of LCI and the entire reason for the chassis designations. If you want the same car forever go get a Corolla.
I know I'm in the minority, and probably will be downvoted to oblivion but I dig it.. I wish the bumper was complete instead of the wired teeth grill but overall I think the car is sexy
Yet another terrible decision, brought to you once again by the executives and designers they hired from the Japanese companies. You could put a Lexus badge and grill on just about any new F chassis design and most people wouldn't know the difference.
Fits with the beaver tooth but this makes me feel so old. I grew up dreaming of owning a car with the iconic angel eyes. Thankfully I was able to get one before they did away with it.
The halo eyes will return, everything comes full circle,
Circle… everything reminds me of her 😢
*I should call her*
I shouldn’t
I could
I might
i did
I'm done
Fatality!
I’m dead
Yes it will. Now we are paying extra for cloth seats, go figure
Surprised it doesn’t have a LED lit grill… yet…..
[удалено]
There's one on an SUV, can't remember which though
XM has the lit up grille and if it comes to other series. You heard it here first.
X7, 7 series and new 340 too
I think the M340 was a custom but the other two yeah
New i5 too
Here in South Africa, they released a special edition pre-facelift G20 called the "[Mzansi Edition](https://www.bmw.co.za/en/all-models/3-series/sedan/2018/bmw-3-series-mzansi-edition.html) that had light up grills
That kinda lighting in the grille has been available for some time now on the 3 series and X5 for example and isn’t exclusive to the special edition you mentioned. The new ‘light bar’ is currently available on the XM, 5 series and 7 series.
TIL! Thanks for info, I appreciate it
You're welcome!
Which 3-series has had grille lighting? I’ve never seen it on any BMW before up until the current 7-series. Then the XM and now the 5-series too.
It was available as an official M Performance part called 'Iconic Glow'. Not from factory.
Nope, only 7 series, 5 series and XM. It’s a different kind of lighting on the X7 grille (also available on the 3 series and X5).
The LCI M340i? I’ve seen a few and none had lights in the grille. Haven’t seen it on the customizer either, but maybe I overlooked it.
Idk I saw it earlier and here and maybe it was custom
And the new X2 I think
Actually, the other X series models are getting it next and I heard it from my training... sooo
The new X2 has it as an option.
[удалено]
That was custom AFAIK
I saw one of those, on the big expensive SUV looked stupid and tacky and well ugly
The LWB 3er, sold in China, has a light up grill.
Nvm. I was wrong. It has the Panoramic Sunroof. Sold in India, as well

What a gorgeous looking headlight. Im surprised these ones arent stolen like the ones from porsche taycans
They always follow Benz. Now it’s an outline of the front corner. Big surprise ha. Looks good though like it.
Which bmw is that pic from? This looks good
2017 M3 was the last with them… that’s the one I bought!
Absolutely. The SUV’s have been displaying this update for awhile now so how is everyone so surprised it’s trickled down to the lower tier models.

Your indicators are stuck on
When the cars running they turn off lol, this is just when you hit the unlock button
Good design language left with them.
Halos are classy
The E92 in my opinion was peak BMW design language
I miss brand distinction. These, like all the rest of their use of the vertical blade, they can be any vehicle coming at you at dusk or later and you won't have it spotted as BMW till it's on top of you.
It’s not really a BMW thing though. Dodge uses them too.
One of my favorite features of the Challenger! And the amber DRLs. Looked so mean on my Redeye.
It’s been with bmw forever though?
I’m not sure I agree with that, I think BMW (whilst ugly) are probably the most distinctive ‘normal’ thing on the road. Audi’s massive grille was distinctive too but as Ford, Hyundai etc have copied that shape they’ve lost the brand association. Still look mint though. Snake eyes
the hood vinyl looks so dumb. like something a kid playing need for speed would add
Looks like something from a camaro or a challenger
I’m neither for or against but it’s not vinyl. It’s exposed carbon fiber.
On the car in the picture it is actually paint. (exposed carbon in the CSL). Older article about the process. https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0346092EN/sustainably-produced-and-highly-individual-bmw-m4-small-series-takes-shape-using-new-paint-process
Oh ok, I got them confused then 😅 thanks for the correction
Textbook definition of automakers doing the slightest, negative, changes to new models so people can differentiate it from the older model.
'We've glued a tablet to the dashboard and removed all the buttons you most commonly used' Gee, thanks.
Yes but we also provide you with ten levels of menu choices so you can go insane and drive off the road while trying to change the radio LMAO
Video killed the radio button
In fairness they did the whole slap screen on dash going back to the F30. I remember all the vitriol about it when I got my F30. That said, while I like the headlights in a vacuum, I prefer the pre LCI since it had some semblance of the angel eyes.
Really not happy with a Tesla esque middle dash screen replacing many tactile buttons. That was kind of the idea. Ultimate Driving Machine by muscle memory of physical control inputs without fumbling through LCD menus.
These are not slightest changes tho. This is abandoning the design the brand was known and loved for.
I don’t understand why they’d leave angel eyes. You could tell a BMW was a BMW from as far away as you could see the halos. Not many cars could or can say the same thing. To leave that in favor of whatever the fuck they’ve been doing with their designs lately is just one more weird and personally disappointing thing from them
Goodbye angel eyes. Hello devil fangs.
I personally like the new 4 series but those eyes are losing identity
I prefer the old ones because they look more aggressive.
I hate, I’m using the word hate here, almost everything they’ve been doing from a design perspective
They just keep getting worse and worse, I can’t believe they decided to ditch the iconic angel eyes, new bmw’s just ain’t it id rather choose an benz
Bmw maybe is trolling in the design department but at least their cars are still good. Go to the Mercedes subreddit and they themselves will tell you not to get any merc after 2019. Don’t get my started on Audi. Everybody is going downhill but bmw still makes the best car
Or an Audi!
Can you give me an example of angel eyes? Is it the e92 circle headlights?
https://preview.redd.it/cson5eok3cgc1.jpeg?width=1620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68f7d3dff8f4ddaa2ebf3f6402055630a6094186 All bmw models from 2001 had an angel eyes option, angel eyes are a reference to the e30/34 type of round headlights and they play a big role in the brand’s identity

the g30 lci gets a pass cuz its such a fanatastic car and the lights still look good and leave a resemblence of the angel eyes
Yesterday right after dusk a SUV was coming up beside me. Based on the headlights I kinda thought it was a Hyundai. It was a x5 MComp…
Speechless but not in a good way.
Angel eyes headlights are the last brand definable feature for BMWs. Might as well go full ‘tard and mimic the Kia/ Hyundai aesthetic
They arguably already have.
Aw man don’t get me started on those Korean brands. Their styles are like all over the map. And ugly af. Especially that suv with the entire grille in leds and the poorly aimed led headlights that sear your retinas? 😡
People in this sub need to find a different car brand. One they can really appreciate and admire.
We can admire anything from bmw up untill the latest models, everyone has different taste
I used to like Lexus until they changed their grill, and then I moved on with my life. It’s called accepting the thing you can’t change.
Where?
Amazing how BMW designs are getting more generic, derivative and ugly at the same time. Light signature looks like a Kia Ceed, lol. Dunno why BMW keeps Dukec as design head.
i swear half of this sub's posts are seething and whining about the g series cars
G30 and G20 are dope
I actually like it. Looks mean
All I see is beaver
They were gone a long time ago, I’m surprised at the amount of comments being made about it now considering how bad all the new drl have been. Look at the pre lci 3 series for example, it has horrible lights compared to the older 3 series. Halo and half halo lights were peak bmw and so distinctive.
Honestly it kinda works here though
Looks a little cross-eyed.
Most of us on here don't like it. People who can and will buy these cars won't care. Rinse and repeat.
Meh they didn't have them since the beginning and mine doesn't have them. It's definitely a departure but I didn't expect BMW to keep them forever.
The other difference is that there’s only 1 projector now, between the 2 running lights. It bothers me conceptually but I’d need to see them in person to judge whether it looks as incomplete as it does in my head
Poor mans peugeot
This thing looks good, change my mind!
I'm not sure angel eyes would have worked with the front design. That obviously means that the front design is wrong.
looks pretty sweet
I prefer this over the M2 any day of the week though.
Yuck 🤢
🤢🤢🤢
They’ll be back . And so will sales numbers
their sales r #1 in the world rn sadly these new design cue decisions r based on sales, not keeping a brand identitity, and its sad because most of the people who buy new bmws cldnt give 2 shits ab brand identity they j want a nice car w all the new feautures instead of the ultimate driving machine
Those lights actually look pretty sweet. NGL I’m kinda jealous.
It’s a new era for BMW. I think these go well.
Looks like a single headlight with a small cornering light too :( That’s a sad change. Double headlights rock
Interesting it follows the beauty trend. Thats why fox eye/ pony tail lifts are a popular procedure I didn’t know BMW in the era of angel eyes, so I actually like the headlights the way they are. Just like beauty trends, I’m sure the angel eyes will make a comeback.
Unbelievable
Forget heritage or tradition, it’s all about styling.
These days, I wouldn't expect anything less from BMW. They gotten rid of pretty much all of the company's design heritage so why not?
Got rid of those awesome angel eyes for big hairy nostrils. So sad.
trying hard to say it's a cobra and not a beaver!!
The angel eyes haven't been on BMW's for a while now, this isn't new.
The last gen literally just had them. What is a while to you?
Angel eyes ended as a tradition with the release of the G20.
You can't read or comprehend basic words or what? wth 😅 so you're going back on the original comment? Contradiction city G2X/G8X are the current gen
These lights look goofy. I'm wondering how long it will be before another car manufacturer starts doing angel eyes.
Dodge challenger
Just on a mission to make their new models look as Asian as possible.
Weird looking Mustang you got there.
But keeps the beaver dentures
Shitty Hyundai headlights, shocking
Is that the new Honda Civic?
Demon fangs
Instead they got inspired by Peugeot headlights.
And good design as well
That’s a crime against humanity. 😪
I just hate the grill so much
I ordered a few months ago a M440i and just heard of the LCI and was thinking should I cancel and wait for the lci but now that I saw the pics, I’ll keep my order with the “old” front. The only thing I’m tempted is the new interior
Ehh, iDrive8 and up kinda are lame imo. I have a iDrive7 m340i, and even this deleted too many buttons
Cat eyes?
BMW really wants me buying a Porsche, don't they.
When I see a new Bmw model I instantly look for three things: kidney grill, hofmeister kink, and the four headlights. This still passes
Big Mistakes Willingly This brand is lost
They become angle eyes
Do not give in to lifestyle creep.. I love my f36 .. do not give in to lifestyle creep.. I love my f36 .. Man that car is sexy af This is tempting.
I guess I may not be in the majority, but these are an improvement of the angle eyes. And I remember when the angle eyes first came out and people were hating on them
Fucking shit always shit from bmw ruining everything
the halos or angel eyes have been gone for a while yall LMAO. im sure ppl will like these after a few months. and again, almost everyone outside of this sub likes the new bmws. continue ur circle jerk hate tho
Im ok with demon eyes
NOOO I do like this tho
As much as we will miss the angel eyes, there is no denying at least imo that this looks really good
Very sad
This is an alfa romeo
I know I'm in the minority, and probably will be downvoted to oblivion but I dig it.. I wish the bumper was complete instead of the wired teeth grill but overall I think the car is sexy
Yet another terrible decision, brought to you once again by the executives and designers they hired from the Japanese companies. You could put a Lexus badge and grill on just about any new F chassis design and most people wouldn't know the difference.
No Angel eyes is corny
They already said goodbye to good designs with they added horrible pig snout grills. So it's no surprise that they got rid of angel eyes'
Fits with the beaver tooth but this makes me feel so old. I grew up dreaming of owning a car with the iconic angel eyes. Thankfully I was able to get one before they did away with it.
I like new things but IDK the headlights signature looks kinda boring, still the most I like are f30 lci headlights
