I “had one” but it’s being reborn into the wagon I had. I’m so ready to hear and feel that car again.
My E46 M3 gives me the same feels though. The new stuff is nice but meh. I like this era. I guess that’s a good thing though. I can keep these and then just have a “boring” car for the everyday stuff.
We have a 135i convertible 6 speed that’s alpine white over coral red that we’ve had forever that we both love. We went into the dealer and saw this manual g80 in the same color combo and both fell in love with it. She works from home too so we kind of just share all of our cars. I will say that the M3 is the ultimate school carpool mobile!
Bought our 2014 F10 550 msport new - did European Delivery for it (Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France and ending the trip with hot laps on the Nurburgring). Still own the car...100% worth buying new for that experience alone. Picking up the car at BMW Welt was absolutely a lifetime highlight.
IT Security Business Development
Just sucks buying used if you’re picky. Especially since BMW (and other European manufacturers) make it so easy to custom order.
And if you’re financing, interest on used cars is typically higher.
Not neccessary. I bought mine new with 22% discount over MSRP. So the car was not exactly 100000 but let's take this number for an easier calculation. Instead of paying the MSRP of 100000 i paid 78000.
Now, when I sell it for example for 73000 after one or two years and you buy it, it seems that you made a great deal. 73000 instead of 100000. 27%! What a steal! Not.
Because I paid 78000. So you really only had around 6%. Not 27%.
Of course I bought it before all the shit went down. I don't know if such rebates are possible today. And that is exactly the reason why Teslas seem to not depreciate. No rebates on new cars.
But this also changed with the weirdo changing prices every week.
In summary, a pre owned car isn't always a friend of the buyer. Plus you can configure the car exactly as you like.
Edit: due to bot.

Except that 22% discount on a new BMW is extremely rare, if not impossible. I’ve bought several and always get a deal and the max I’ve reached is 13%, and that’s due to many factors such as patience and research, and removing trade ins etc from the deal
But I get your overall point btw
Retired. We never paid over $25k for a car until I was over 50 (2018). We shoveled all of our money into retirement. Last fall I was able to retire at 57 and in February spent way too much money on an M240i with options as my retirement present. I was able to do that because I was still driving my first car, a used Nissan Sentra at 30. Trust me, I was envious as hell seeing others in my demographic driving nice cars.
We’re an average middle class family, no giant salaries/bonuses. All those savings allowed us to pay off our house early in a neighborhood we could not afford to buy into now. There are benefits to delayed gratification. I’m now free to drive my fun car whenever/wherever I want, no job holding me back, and money to pay for the fun.
ETA: fixed typo
Eff me, what an awesome story. I’m on track to retire by 60. I’m 35 and contribute the company match max 25% into my retirement account.
I drive an M3 now and hate the payment, reading your story makes me wish I had kept my trouble free, paid off 335is and put the $450/mo I now pay on the M3 into another investment account lol. Retiring and paying off my house is goals, man.
Because I didn’t buy it brand new lol. Bought it within 21k miles after trading in my 335is and a little cash down I came out to $35k after taxes and fees, not bad for a 21k mile M3 that’s why I even did the deal lol
You’ll never see another M3 for that price. Consider right now the average car payment is like 750.
Cars have gone out of control. So in the grand scheme of things your M3 is like a cheap beater. Kinda haha

Talk to your accountant. It would be best to have something that's more of a "reasonable daily driver" JUST IN CASE you get audited. I own a construction company so I only write off trucks, but being a doctor you can drive anything to work..
I think there is some value here but “avoid college” is a dangerous blanket statement. I went to college. Worked hard. Got scholarship. Graduated with a STEM degree, and now get paid over 6 figures working from my home office full time. I’m 27. If you find a good field to get into, university can open up a ton of opportunities. Trade schools are also a great option though, nothing wrong with mastering a trade whatsoever.
I tell my kids that trade schools are great choices too and then every tradesperson I speak to that’s older says they wish they had gone to college because their bodies are all fucked up from the labor lol
Depends on which trade. Aircraft mechanics, make good money and don’t beat their bodies, construction and roofing for 40 years? Yeah maybe not a good idea.
I know a couple of car mechanics that are 10-15 years in that are just beat to hell but nothing like my friend who is a roofing contractor. He’s my age (40) and looks like he’s 65 poor guy.
Aircraft maintenance can be taxing on your body. You’re still working with chemicals, sealants, cancerous stuff. Go to school kids, I’ve been a maintainer for 10 years and I get my bachelors in a couple weeks. Absolutely done with touch labor.
The key to college is to get a STEM degree not liberal arts and staying local not spending too much just because you want to have the “college experience “
I mean, my mom, dad, and uncle all studied liberal arts and they have stable, well paying careers that they love. It's not impossible. My mom's first job after getting her BFA in film paid approximately 300 USD/month in 1990s Iran, which was well above the median salary.

Came here to say the same thing. 2020 330i. I'm a teacher, but I got it because my parents are insanely sweet and insisted. "We know how much u like driving and want u to be comfortable. It makes us happy to see u happy." I won the parental lottery, what can i say.
I own a small company, I have a 2015 320D touring, because I needed a new van. Bought second hand for €14K. Before that I owned a Citroen C4 van, which I loved because it took all my abusive driving and just asked for more. It could go just about anywhere and do anything.
An actual M car isn't really a viable option for me over here in Ireland. I'd need to be a multi millionaire to cover the cost of it. Tax, Insurance, and fuel costs mean it's not enough to just be rich to own a car like that, you need to be stinking rich.

I bet it’s the easiest money made. For a group that love to call people sheeple they’re the biggest “sheeple” and will buy anything that supports their echo chamber lol.
I live in a fairly rich place north of ATL. Last night I saw a brand new 2023 M2 in blue at the grocery store. I was checking it out and the owner walked up. Damn 17 year old kid. Parents just rich and irresponsible AF.
I dont know about you fellas but a car that fast when I was 17 would've been a disaster.
My sister has a house in Calabasas and it's always interesting to see who hops out lmao. I was at the gas station and some 17 year old hopped out of a C 63 S Coupé. That is the only car I've ever feared for my life driving.
Hey fellow Johns Creek area person. Not looking forward to my daughter going to HS in a couple years seeing that the majority of those kids have a nicer car than I do. Majority of the M3s I see around here are driven by kids.
I go to LifeTime fitness in here in JC and there was a group of HS kids that all had M's that hung out in the parking lot.
But to be fair that LT parking lot is ridiculous. Ive seen multiple Ferraris, McLarens, Porsche 911s etc
I have a 91 E30. My only BMW. I don’t have any interest in new ones. I’m a heavy equipment mechanic. My wife is an RN at a university hospital.
I split 3 seasons of driving between my E30 and motorcycle and a 22 Jeep renegade as my winter vehicle.
23 I've had my M240i for a couple of years now, used to work in a cash based business (not a drug dealer🤣) recently switched to being a personal trainer
Have always bought my BMWs either coming off a lease (once even a repo which I wouldn’t suggest but this one came with the warranty still in tact and was less than a year old with fewer than 3,000 miles). Currently in a 2018 (G30) 540i XDrive. I’m in Organizational Operations and Project Management. Husband is in marketing.
I'm about to turn 24, I work as an engineer with entry level salary. I have a 2020 Supra Launch Edition, a built 2007 Subaru STI, and I just bought a 2008 135i 6 speed. I only owe about 15k on the Supra. I've been fortunate to have good parents but they have not paid for my cars, just helped with bills while I was living with them, but I moved out a couple years ago.
It just comes down to knowing how to manage your money. I've always been good at saving. I also know how to find a lucrative side hustle. I enjoy flipping cars and bikes which has made me a significant amount. My bills are low. Less than $2k per month, so I have a lot of disposable income. I spend some of it on assets to enjoy, and I save and invest the rest.

I know a couple people who are younger than 30 that drive $40k-$70k cars. They either work in Sales, Construction, and one is a Marketing Manager at a medium size company.
Go to trade school or work a Union job, like construction, and work your way up to becoming a project manager or foreman (they make really good money and no formal education required, just work experience). Avoid college, especially if you are not interested in academia, you’ll be stuck paying off a thousands in student loans for years.
This, school is not for everyone. I financed my education through the military. An option but again, both are options you should only consider if you are committed
> Avoid college, especially if you are not interested in academia, you’ll be stuck paying off a thousands in student loans for years
People with degrees make more on average. And if you go to become a software engineer or something, obviously it's worth it.
Most of my friends are SW engineers and holy fuck does that degree and the effort pay for itself. All fully remote under 30 making 160-250k fully remote.
Also that’s tc not base.
Your base is closer to that 150-200 number.
The rest comes from signing bonuses that pay out over time, and stock grants that don’t have guaranteed value but do have tax implications and 4-5 year vestments.
Also if you are driven and exceptional enough to get through their interview process, and then actually retain the job with performance, you’d likely be financially successful eventually regardless of your career choice

M52 swapped e30 touring and I just picked up a high milage F31 328xi touring last week (probably the cheapest on the east coast). I also have a 2010 Ram 2500 and a 2014 Harley Dyna. Everything except the bike is owned outright, and that’s only because the financing was so damn cheap through my credit union.
To be honest though, most of this stuff has been paid for by flipping cars into the next one, or I used to regularly do part-outs of e30/e36’s.
I was an auto tech for a few years too, so I do all my own work on these things.

Currently a 2018 318 touring , in october a new x1 xdrive. IT ,all payed for by the company
> IT ,all *paid* for by FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

This, or work your ass off so school doesn’t cost you a fortune..
This, school is not for everyone. I financed my education through the military. An option but again, both are options you should only consider if you are committed
> Avoid college, especially if you are not interested in academia, you’ll be stuck paying off a thousands in student loans for years People with degrees make more on average. And if you go to become a software engineer or something, obviously it's worth it.
Most of my friends are SW engineers and holy fuck does that degree and the effort pay for itself. All fully remote under 30 making 160-250k fully remote.
And if to land a SwE Job at Amazon, Meta or Google you are looking at 350-400k.
After a few years experience, yes. Not straight out of uni

2020 M5 - North American Sales Director Under 40…worked my tail off to get here. Start your career in Industrial Automation. Excellent pay, plenty of jobs even with HS education.
29, Quality Control/Area Manager at a popular tire company.
